Holy shit, I'm moving to Tokyo in three weeks!
There's no way I can bring all my stuff with me, so one lucky CAG is going to win 30+ games and a bunch of shwag (E3, TGS, etc.).

Simply post in this thread for a chance to win.
You must post something about Japan, winning my games, or what you would like to see me do (for your amusement) once I am living in Tokyo.

You may post as often as you wish, but that WILL NOT increase your chance of winning. One account/entry per person. You must be over 18 (or have your parents permission upon winning to receive M rated games) and in the continental US to be eligible to win. Winner will be chosen at random. Contest ends on or about 10/24/05.

Why am I moving to Japan?
Mrs. CheapyD got a great job and it requires us to move to Tokyo. Its basically an offer we can't refuse. I will still be able to run CAG from Japan and now I will be able to work on CAG full time. You can also likely expect new additions/features and possibly a new CAG sister website as I become Your Man In Japan.
Fear not! The focus of CAG will always be cheap video games.

When you are living in Tokyo it would be cool if you could buy Japanese imports of albums and mail them to me. Thanks!

Holy crap! Japan, winning your games, I'd like to see you use the video toilet from the Simpsons whilst in Japan.

This event is both sad and extremely great.

I project to see Cheapy D taking down Japan's version of "best buy" from the inside, Ninja style. And once his image gets out, there is going to be a Magna and a Anime.. and merchandising. Good luck in Tokyo.

Thanks for the great contest Cheapy! Too bad you can't take that stuff with you. That would be a pretty sweet game package to win. I own some of those games so if I win, I'll hold my own contests to give back to CAG.

For my amusement, since you are such a tall man, I think you should find the shortest Japanese person around and take a picture with them next to you.

Cheapy should get really fat in Tokyo and take up sumo wrestling!

Cheapy: Man or Myth?

It has long been contested as to whether the mythical CheapyD really exists, but a recent development may change all that....... Because he is going to mail me all of his games before he leaves for Japan, thus proving is awesomeness.

:)

By the way, when you get to Japan I want to see you riding in Miyamoto's private Nintenjet!

theq87
10-13-2005, 10:12 AM
Cheapy, I should win your games, because I could bring some of 'em back to you once I get to Japan in March.

It only makes sense.

I really would like to visit Japan sometime... maybe even live there. A friend of mine went when he was younger and loved it. Cheapy, keep an eye open for cheap Midwest->Tokyo airfare for us, ok? Thanks! ;)

Whoa, sweet contest.

I'd like to see a "virtual tour" of game shops, just pictures and whatnot. I'll also be wanting to send you money to hook me up with DS imports :P I'd also like to see you wearing as much XBox schwag as possible and walk up and down the streets (since XBox is not liked too much over there).

Maklershed
10-13-2005, 10:14 AM
I want to win cheapy's stuff!! I also want you (cheapy) to dress like Naruto and eat lots of ramen noodles.

If you have time to answer cheapyd ..

a) Will this site keep running as usual?

b) What kind of nifty things are you moving there for?

mykevermin
10-13-2005, 10:14 AM
Now that you'll be living in Japan, I hope you'll still be able to shill free prizes for the WWE (though I'm still jealous of Zenithian Legend for winning the last contest). Perhaps you can work with Japanese Organizations? A contest for a date with Razor Ramon "Hard Gay" Sumitami, perhaps?

They have square watermelons in Japan...they stack better

also

People in Japan die disproportionately on the 4th of each month because the words death and four sound alike, and they are represented by the same symbol.

Good luck on a major life change...and take some Pepto

Dont know if they still exist, but you should take a picture of yourself next to one of those panties vending machine. If you dont know what I'm talking about, it's where Japanese schoolgirls wear a pair of panties for a day and then put it in a vending machine so pervs can buy it.

Personally, I would like you to check out some of the japanese shrines. With a camera, and then send me pictures. I've always wanted to go to japan and a big part of it being the heritage. Also, if you hit any dojo's over there take a few pictures, Im trying to build one in my basement for me and the wife to train in and I'd love some actual source material that isnt cheesy american made stuff.

I would be a curator of your game collection if I were to win.

I have had two friends move to Japan for that JET thing, where English speaking people move to Japan for a year or more to help teach English to Japanese children. One is still there (maybe he and Cheapy could hang out).

I'd love to go to Japan some day. Does this contest should also include a 1-week, all expenses paid trip to your new house. LOL.

10-13-2005, 10:20 AM
On a serious note, definatly check out the electronics district, Shinjuku (no idea how to spell.) Things are often over priced but its really cool to see at least once. Also get out of Tokyo sometimes.... Other cities in Japan are as cool, if not cooler. Amazing place, I'm planing to live there for a year after college. Good luck!

I'm very happy for you Cheapy. But sorry to see you go. Maybe we can have a going away party someplace in manhattan. I'm sure alot of us would be down for it.

Anyway on to the contest.....I would like to see cheapy wear one of those ass print pants while walking through downtown Tokyo.

Cheapy I know you have been to Japan b4, but did you ever go to Akihibara (i think I spelled it right)?

i didnt have time to read all the pages, so is the site going to be ran by cheapy from over there? or new ownership?

well congrats, i think it would be sweet to go over thete for a stint. you should set up some kind of game exchange or a small shop under an assumed name so we can get the funky japanese games over here for a smaller fee. yes!

EDIT: oh yea, whens the drawing, i did not see the date in the op.

Damn! Nice list of games for this contest!

I'd like to see Cheapy try to fit in a subway seat once he gets to Tokyo. I have trouble fitting in seats in the US and I imagine they are even tighter over there.

I'm thinking this will get about 500+ entries  Hope I'me the lucky one!

Something about Japan:

I hope to one day visit Japan because it is the "Mecca" of the videogame world.

Winning your games:

This would be awesome! A majority of them I do not own and the few I do I would share with friends and family.

What I would like Cheapy to do:

It would be awesome to see you in a Godzilla parody scene. Have a minature scale Japan with you walking through and ever so often pan to a Japan citizen looking up moving his mouth with poor voice-over overlapping; since you're holding a mike in your avatar maybe even have an interview with the locals. Also while your storming through you should be wearing a shirt either saying "I Love NY" or "I Love CAG's".

Well that is my two cents. Good luck in Japn cheapy and thanks for the contest.

Congrats to you and the Mrs., Sounds like an amazing adventure (yes, you can read the jealousy between the lines!)

The contest is very generous of you, I'm sure everyone appreciates it.

I think what would be extremely cool for you to start doing would be a little open diary on your experiences in living in Japan. Give us all an insight on customs, sights, experiences that may surprise you, etc. Stuff you don't learn about just watching Japanese movies and playing Japanese games. You could even make it as an extension of your Cagcasts.

Hope your time there is amazing!

I would like to see a picture of getting his head rubbed by 3 (hot) japanese women as they all hold video games and anime, then we know he can die a happy man.

Awesome contest, you so good to us, in your honor I'm going to shave my head and become an even bigger cheap ass. That means no more dinner for the girlfriend, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Also while you're there, shake the hand of Shigeru Miyamoto are all the awesome things he's done. Then punch him in the gut and tell him he'd better not ruin the Revolution.

Wow! Living in Japan would be very nice and an experience to cherish. Just avoid all wells, houses where anyone who enters dies, strange little boys who cry like cats. Not sure if Ms. Cheapy would appreciate it, but maybe you'll run into some music magazine photographer's hot wife. In any case, have a great time in Japan.

Congratulations are in order to the man and his wife. Hear hear!

As for Japan, it is a strangely small and silly place, wrought with minute people. You will tower above them, and they might worship you as a god.

You need to go to the shrine that Miyamoto said inspired Star Fox, as well as go to his garden and steal me a Pikmin. Don't laugh - we all know Shiggy genetically engineered them himself in an attempt to breed a race of supermen, but we instead ended up with flower creatures.

Also you need to see if you can find the Iron Chefs. They have to be around somewhere.

Thanks for the contest and all the luck, Cheapy.

When you get to Japan please inspire the nation like you have this one. Teach them the art of cheap ass game buying. Show them that paying full price for a game is pure evil.

For my amusement you should reinact seems from jackass and run amok in Japan wearing a giant panda bear costume.

As for the games yes please.

Great contest. I may have missed it, but when is the deadline and drawing date?

Anyway, when you get there go buy an Xbox - You should see a 50% increase on Japanese Xbox sales. (just kidding Xbox fanboys. I love mine-they just don't like it much over there). You should also check out some of the toy shops in Japan. I have never been, but I have seen pics of some amazing things that will never be released in the US.

I was on Okinawa Island for a bit...I found the fishing to be fun in the area.

But back on the mainland, Pachinko and Pachislots are the quintessential Japanese hobby. Have a glass of Kowpis (it's like Horchata), and grub on the delicious Katzu.

One thing I especially enjoyed about Nippon...

In the USA, they are very anal about the slik-track raceways. You know the go-cart tracks that you race around? Make any contact, and they'll pull you off the track. Not so in Japan, you race around 35 MPH and full contact in encouraged. Take some tylenol the night before, your neck will thank me in the morning.

I want video of CheapyD opening a small stand trying to sell xboxs at outrageous prices, just to piss off the locals.

Have fun and good luck in Japan, Sir Cheapy.

I have a bilingual, American acquaintance who is living in Japan and is also a gamer; I will beseech him to take you and his flock of Japanese chicks out for that tako/raw octopus marinated in vinegar, or the odori-tai—the fish that's filleted while it's still flapping around on your plate, or some fugu! Dangerous.

Or maybe just a beer, eh?

It would be interesting if you could create a Japanese version of Cheap Ass Gamer and see how many (if any) of the native gamers there would change their buying habits accordingly.

Or, you could always get 10-15 of the folks together and watch them play X game after giving them $200 of saki.

Scratch that- that happens on campuses all the time here in the US. (Replace Saki with Bud Light)

Have a great time man, this is a great site, thanks for your time.

Dont know if this has been said already, but you should do things like, Play DDR with some of the locals (the ones who eat breath and crap DDR) and then after a nice work out go eat alot of wasabi and see how much you can eat. After you eat some food then go find a lady of the night and then enjoy the rest of your night.

And then walk around asking about the 4 Woodoo and then ask random people if they would like to play a game of lucky hit! (if you've played the shenmue games you'd know what i'm talking about)

He was supposed to get me a used PSP for $100us and a 1gig Memory Stick Duo for $40us, but the damn game shop where he lives went up to $150US on used PSPs. He said it's the same in Akihabara too. Very cool Cheapy. I wish you and yours the very best in your endeavors!

If you're looking for some good reading on the plane on your way to Japan might I recommend a very interesting look at Japan's political infrastructure and such called Dogs and Demons. Japan is an amazing country. I stand in awe of what they've accomplished in just the last fifty years. This little island country has come out of nowhere to become an international powerhouse in electronics, automobiles, etc., and they're even buying up landmark real estate in the U.S. now.

I've love to see CheapyD become fluent in Japanese and hold interviews with the gaming locals there to give those of us in the cheap seats a better understanding of how natives of the video game homeland now view the industry. Wow, I'd have to get an Xbox if I won ;) . Something I'd be glad to do, though. I've been to Japan before when I graduated High School. My 2 week trip was the best time I ever had. Amazing people and amazing food. Be sure to check out Shabuya for the night life - it's f'n crazy. I remember the arcades being pretty popular there, take some shots of the unique JPN arcade games.

I for one would be amused if after a few months cheapy grew out his hair and styled it into some huge anime-esque spikes (i.e. goku)

now that would be funny.

studying ancient forms of martial arts with creepy old men with cool beards would be a plus also.

I hope that the flow of PS3/Revolution news will turn into a mighty flood as CheapyD moves to the Center of Gaming Power. (Apologies to Billy G)

Are you bringing your xbox? Will it fit in your new place? Ah, who cares, the 360 will be released 2 weeks after the launch here. Good luck to you and your wife.

If I were to somehow win this contest, I'd offer my personal protection to CheapyD while he's in Japan.

I'd go nuts if I moved to Japan. I'd check out the subway system and go to all kinds of different cities. I'd try all the foods and see how different it is or if it's any fresher. I'd hit all the game and toy stores for the best deals. I wonder what their CAG selections are like? I bet I'd be in shmups heaven.

If I could win this lot I'd even pay you for the shipping.

Best wishes and good luck.

I'd like to see you on one of them gameshows, like the ones on MXC. That would be sweet! Good luck in Japan!

You should turn Japanese in every room of your apartment before you even unpack (and after you send Mrs. Cheapy out to find sushi). It's just so appropriate...

I want to see Cheapy D go up to a Japanese Police Officer and tell him a Short Dark haired man stole his wallet.

I think I should get San Andreas for the XBox and/or other stuff because CheapyD's life now officially rocks. He gets to live in Japan with all the huge-breasted women and cool robots, he has a wife, and he doesn't have to work anymore. Whereas I have no wife, no robots, no huge breasts, and I do have to work. Hard. :(

CheapyD, I would like you to post a video on this site of you singing Pac Man Fever at a karaoke bar in Japan. Whether I win or (probably) not, at least sing Pac Man Fever at a karaoke bar for me, and start it out like "This one's for you cleaver!" like Stevie Nicks does in Landslide.

Cheapy, you gotta visit Tokyo Disneyland! Also, if you have time someday, take a bunch of cool pictures for us..... especially of the crazy gaming stuff they have there.

Cheapy= what prefecture of Tokyo are you gonna be in? I just realized that my other buddy from College is still in the Tokyo area. Last I remember, he was living right near Shibuya, again doing the teaching thing. The only thing stopping me is my unfinished college degree. Once that's done, I'm gone to Nippon (Japanese for Japan).

http://www.metro.tokyo.jp/ENGLISH/ <- very very useful site about the goings on in Nippon's capital City.

Oh man. I envy you so much. Ever since I got into import gaming, I've been looking for those obscure, quirky titles that will never make it to the U.S. so if you find any cool games, please let me know!

And good luck with your Red DS.

I want to thank cheapy for such a wonderful website that i was very proud to be a part of. I wish you the best in Tokyo, and I hope that life there suits you well. Thanks a lot man, you are a stand up guy, and you will be missed here in the US. While you are there, look up Tim Rogers, www.largeprimenumbers.com, and you guys might hit it off. Good luck and goodnight!

Wow, what an opportunity, though it does suck that you have to get rid of so much stuff.
I'd love to go to Japan. I'd also like to win your games :)

Add an Akihabara-deals forum to CAG; you could have the man-in-Japan "tradelist" with all the goodies that never come out over here.

While in Japan, find out where the sailors are. That's right, go around and ask random people where you might find sailors. Try to wear a bomber jacket if you can. Maybe get a job running a forklift and if at all possible, try to become obsessed with collecting those little toys that come out of vending machines.

Have fun!

I would give away the duplicates of the games if I won the lot, but there are plenty of great games which I don't own in that prize package. Good luck in Tokyo. Be sure to tell us about all of the crazy games that you play in Japan.
