True - they don't seem to have a lot of stuff. The one in Akron is a little better. The Exchange stores are much better - the one in Kent by Starbucks is loaded, so is the Falls store. They are also getting a bit pricier

Dave
I had Genocidal check out the CD/Game Exchange in Cleveland Heights since I had somehow never stopped in it during the 5 years I was on campus there, but he said it wasn't worth a trip for classic stuff. Suppose I could always see what it looks like for current gen stuff, but I wouldn't make a special trip out of it.

Not to stereotype, but the selection is what you'd expect from trendy gamers who want to be 'hip' and 'gangsta'. Nothing IMO worthwhile, a lot of the latest and greatest in EA sports games, and maybe 20 Gamecube games in total. It was truly a sad sight.

I believe it. Makes sense considering the only people patronizing it would be Case kids and neighborhood kids.

Apparently there's one in Lyndhurst, I might stop by next time I'm cruising around.

Anyone in the Toledo area, the Allied Records in Miracle Mile has a copy of Guitar Hero for $60 in great condition, seems complete. I was there a couple of days ago, so it may or may not be there as of now.

I also found a $5 copy of FFT (Black label) (bought) and a copy of Bubble Bobble NES ($20), and some complete SNES/NES games, but as much as I like Bubble Bobble, $20 is too much for me

Oh yeah, also remembered, last time I was at EB Games in that plaza with Target and Kroger's and Office Max on Alexis, there was a complete Lunar 2 (big box and all) for ~$30, so you might want to check it if you're looking for one.

To anyone in the Medina area, I just called the 3 Targets around there and none had any Nintendogs bundles (the ones that supposedly ring up for $99). Maybe I'll try back tomorrow and see if they were just being lazy and didn't check.

GameStop in Brunwick has 3 brand new Guitar Hero bundles for $80 if anybody was looking for one.

What the hell is going on in Toledo?

First Nazis,

and now (suspected) Terrorists!

http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/02/21/terror.indictment.ap/index.html

What's next? We better move out, I think this place will be the first to get wiped out.

Just thought i'd post in here, since I'm another Kent resident.

If there are any DS owners interested the Target in Stow/Kent had a copy of Meteos and a copy of Tiger Woods for $14.88 a wee k or so ago. Check the endcaps at the back of the video games aisle.

If anyone else sees a copy of Phoenix Wright out there for $20 let me know :)

Was just perusing the GS store locator... there's a Phoenix Wright at the Findlay GameStop. It's 153 miles from me, but someone else might be close to it.

Sounds like what happened to the Randall Park CC a few years ago, but that happened to everything in North Randall.

On a possibly related note, the Solon K-Mart was clearanced to all hell last time I was there (video games 10% off). It's probably not closing down, but potentially changing to Sears Essentials. I might stop by again this weekend, I'll report if discounts have increased at all.

I was there a couple weeks ago, and to be honest, they never had any good ones there. I picked up Zelda II (which you can buy off me for cost if you want it) and one of the Pokemon videos to get Luigi's Mansion free during the B2G1F. Other than that, I know they had an Asphalt Urban GT for DS, but that's about it. I scoured the racks for anything less than $7 or $8 on the list, and saw nothing else.

I can't directly answer your question, but I do have some information. It is scheduled to close sometime around 4/1, but it seems like as other TRU's have been closing they have been varying the closing dates slightly by district to allow the DM's to be at each store for closing. 40% off games, 70% off accessories, theres pretty much no accessories left though. And games pretty much suck, I'm waiting for the percentage to drop down more because they have at least 50 copies of gunstar heroes GBA for some reason.

It's really not worth the drive there, I went tuesday morning and didn't buy anything but decided to come back that night and pick up a 360 memory card for 12 bucks but all 8 of their memory cards were gone by then, most likely some asshole buying them for resale.

EDIT: oh and I'm pretty sure they told me they were closing down April 1

definetly no guitar hero. The only things worth driving to this TRU is for gba and Nintendo DS. They still have a few decent games for each of those systems, everything else is pretty much crap. Or unless you need 360 high def cables you can score them pretty cheap at their 70% off.

Well I'm still waiting for more of a price drop on Gunstar. As soon as it gets cheaper I'd be more than willing to grab you a copy when I go. My best guess is shipping would be 1.26. Most complete GBA games fall into that shipping price, At the most I'm guessing it would be 1.60 to ship.

If anyone is in or going to Columbus, the Polaris Mall's Sam Goody and Suncoast are closing. They're both 40-70% off, but most of the games/dvds were 40%. Suncoast's discount really only brought it down to like average price, but in a week it may be worth it. The Sam Goody has some Everquest expansion packs for $5-$10 and some good, new games but nothing that appealed to me. Also, the Sears had some $3-7 and alot of $10 games, and 2 copies of ICO. Got a question for NE Ohio CAGs - any cafes or chains you know that offer wireless net access? When I go out pillaging, it's usually a 12 hour day with as many stops as I can make, and a lot of times I wish I could hop on the net and check here or ebay or whatnot. I found a Mustard Seed Cafe with a sign outside that said they had wireless access (Solon, OH), and for some reason I remember either Starbucks or Barnes and Nobles offering net access

I saw this in the Contests & Free Stuff forum, but I thought it would be better suited for this forum.

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89675

In 1996, a bunch of classic gamers had a 'convention' called RGVC-CON in 1996 at a Day's Inn in Dayton Ohio. This was organized by #rgvc, an IRC channel inspired by the USENET group rec.games.video.classic. Ultimately this gathering moved to Cincinnati and became 'CinciClassic', and a total of six events have been hosted by some of those who organized that original event. CinciClassic grew to the point of having dozens of vendors and hundreds of attendees, but has been absent from the scene for a while.

For the first time since 2002, CinciClassic is back. The event has always been free (or dirt-cheap), and it's free for 2006; vendor fees cover the event costs and all gamers can attend and play without paying admission. The main floor alone will have over forty vendor tables (with wares from every system from Atari 2600 to Xbox 360, including neo-classic favorites like TG-16 and Saturn), and there will be plenty of free gameplay (including arcade machines) and tournaments, in addition to lots of discussion and trading. A new Sega CD game will debut at the show!

I'm making sure that on Saturday we have 10-player Saturn Bomberman (at every CinciClassic we've played it Saturday night), and 2-player Guitar Hero. We're also going to have wireless Nintendo DS gaming, and the more that come to play, the more play we'll have. We’ve always played modern as well as classic systems; Para Para Paradise on the PS2 was a huge hit in 2002.

There are also tournaments with prizes.

The event is Saturday, April 8, at the Fairfield Banquet and Convention Center in Fairfield, OH, from 9am to 11pm (possibly midnight). Friday night is mostly just vendors setting up, but there will certainly be some trading and possibly a little gaming too.

Come on out and say hello, and play! I'll be the guy in the black Vectrex t-shirt.

Gamers from the Ohio/Kentucky/Indiana area should definitely check this out, it's always a blast.

Columbus CAG here.

I'll most likely be driving down to the Cinci Classic with Jerdogg123 and possibly a few others.

Anyone know if the Polaris SG & Suncoast are still open? They're all the way on the opposite side of Columbus for me and I haven't wanted to make the drive yet.
From what I recall the Polaris Suncoast was only open for another 4 or 5 days when I was there a couple weeks ago. So I'm guessing no.

Did some shopping in Dayton today. Gem City Records was slim pickings as usual. I forgot how much nicer Second Time Around is for finds. They had a used 360 HDD for $50 and two wired controllers for $30 each. Prices on games are much more reasonable too.

Went to the Mall at Fairfield Commons after that and looked around. EB had most of the recent price drops already marked. Sam Goody is nearly cleared out at 70% off games. Lots of copies of True Crime, Bulletproof, and old sports games left, but not much else as far as games go. They had a nice stack of guides toward the back. DVDs are still plentiful as are CDs.

Curious if any of the Columbus/Dayton/Cinci CAGs have noticed this or are enrolled in Best Buy's Reward Zone:

http://www.myrewardzone.com/ohio.jspx

To summarize, the program is free in those three cities (as opposed to a $10 fee), but instead of 100 points per dollar, you get 1 point per dollar; currently you receive a $5 certificate for every $150 spent, or 15000 points. The experimental program offers a $5 cert for every $250 spent, or 250 points.

I worked out the numbers, and it will be great for low-volume shoppers at BB since it's free, but if you spend over $1000 a year, you'll be getting fewer rewards.

I haven't heard of this before and I know a ton of people who work at the local BB. Do they just spam you more to make up the $10? I know you don't get the premier benefits, but it seems like something for nothing.

To follow up on my own question, here's a few spots with free wireless internet incase you need to hop on the net during a shopping trip:

Pulp Juice/Smoothie Bar - Kent: Highest recommendation, good drinks, chicks work there in ass-hanging out shorts, Kent St hotties rotate in and out like clockwork

? Cafe - Stow - on the main road about 1/2 mile past gamestop - it's open 24 hours

Mustard Seed Cafe - Solon - in the same plaza as EB

Well, as I described, if you spend over $1000, they'll be giving you less money with the free plan than with the pay one. I'm assuming they've done or are doing market research to determine how their customer spending habits break down around that number.

HAMILTON COUNTY OHIO RESIDENTS ONLY: WIN a private suite at Cincy Reds game

Saw this in CinWeekly magazine, sucks because i'm not a Hamilton County resident....... The county basically gets a free suite every year as part of the stadium deal and they raffle for 5 winners each game to bring themselves and a guest.

IF YOU WIN YOU TAKIN ME BITCHES!

http://www.hamiltoncountyohio.gov/hc/gabp_draw.asp

"Hamilton County will provide the use of its suite at Great American Ball Park for citizens selected through random drawings. The drawings will be held periodically through the 2006 baseball season after Board of County Commissioner meetings. The drawings will provide 5 winners and their guest an opportunity to see a Reds game from the suite. The County will provide food and soft drinks.

Commissioners Phil Heimlich, Pat DeWine, and Todd Portune each shared their pleasure in offering this chance to the citizens of Hamilton County.

Please submit this entry form for your chance to win. Once you enter your name it will remain in the hopper for each drawing through the season.

You must respond within 48 hours of notification if you are selected as a winner.
Please contact Amy at 946-4304 if you have questions."

I didn't see any bargain bin games there.

I went an hour and a half early, waited and got a free $50 gift card. :applause: I'll use that for Scrubs seasons 2 and 3 on Tuesday. :) I also got a signed picture of the Cavs girls and a Reuben Drougns autograph.

Anyone know when that City View Gamestop is going to open? I haven't looked at the front of it yet to see how far along it is, I've just seen the name on the back.

It would be cool if we could find a place to have an Ohio game swap. Get together, play some multiplayer, and trade some games.

I head up to Cleveland a couple times a year for movie conventions, I'll definately keep ya in mind next time we road trip. If nothing else, we could get some portable multiplayer going.

Hey, I've often lurked about the boards but never bothered to post so I figure I'll start in the Ohio area.

I'm a tad fed up with eBay and PAypal after having some issues with them in the last 6 months or so but I'm still in the market for a number of older NES/SMS/SNES/Genesis games and was wondering if anyone from around the Akron/Canton/Cleveland area knew of any good, reasonably priced stores that have some selection of those system's titles.

Yea, I've used The Exhange for stuff before but rarely find anything there worth it. I guess I'm just looking for places that charge less than $5 for NES games. I'm too used to eBay I suppose but paying more than a dollar or two for NES games just doesn't sit well with me any longer. Same goes for SMS games.

I'm actually looking for around 45 NES/SMS games and around 30 SNES/Genesis games as part of a way of killing my backlog over the summer. Like a few games a day, just finally knocking out all that stuff I wanted to play as a kid. College will really begin ramping up for me in the next semester (presumably, though I thought the same for this one and it was easy) and I'm looking to be able to focus on just keeping up with current games as opposed to trying to keeping up with both new and old.

GameCrazy is probably really the place to go then. I'm not sure what's on your list, but they still have a fairly good selection of NES games, and many of those are under $5, as low at 1.99.

I worked out the numbers, and it will be great for low-volume shoppers at BB since it's free, but if you spend over $1000 a year, you'll be getting fewer rewards.

I realize I'm bringing up an old subject, but I didn't see anyone clarify some things about this.

They started the change last November-- At first, I was very pissed off, because it seemed like people were clearly getting a worse return rate on things, and I paid for my card long long ago when I bought my PC (And as usual they kept extending its expiration date for free), and now people get them for free. They were even handing them out in the hours long line during the Black Friday sales.

But, that page doesn't mention some of the things the premier members get. Premier members actually get double the points on every single purchase in the store, and if you do the math, it actually works out better than the old way was. I used to have the exact figures typed up (As I was preparing to write a very nasty letter to Best Buy about how they were fucking people in the Dayton area over with their 'new and improved' program), but I've lost them since then. I ended up not sending the letter as they ended up bumping me up to premier level (for people who've spent $2000 + in the recent time periods) as I'd just bought my $2,000 laptop there, so it put me at the premier level, so I was getting a better deal than before.

It actually works out better for those of us who buy only at BB, versus the people that only casually shop there, because of the double points on everything.

*rummages around to find the old figures*

Old RZ: Spend $150 get a $5 certificate
New, Standard RZ: Spend $250 get a $5 certificate
New, Premier RZ: Spend $125 get a $5 certifitcate

Or if you prefer a ratio, CAGs in, say, California, can get 10 certificates while the lowly standard Ohio RZ people will only get 6 for spending the same amount. So I'd guess by your math, the only ones who are truely screwed over are the ones who are in the middle of $1000-1999. But those like me who sell their souls to BB get the best deal in the entirety of the country.

As for the CAG meetup, I nominate the Easton Town Center Gameworks (Columbus Area). On July 7th. Cause... I'll be there, with my fiance who's flying in from London, England. We're staying in Columbus the night of the 6th after attending a concert in the area then spending the next day at Easton. Yeah.
If that's not an option, the closer to Dayton the better for me, and I could provide... any of this and the consoles that go with (http://users.ign.com/collection/jezebelseven). (And a 360 to be added to that list in two weeks.)

botticus

Didn't know about the Premier membership. I guess we'll see what happens if they extend the scope of the new program rules. More importantly, I'll have to see how much I've spent at Best Buy... probably not $2000 without a major purchase.

Yeah it was Chapel Hill. I was going to go return something and saw that it was closed. Didn't even see any signs or anything informing of a closure. Seems like they just packed up and left. Canton and Aurora are too far away from Stow.

Thanks for the heads up, been considering getting a new tv for my living room as the current one has taken to making horribly high pitched noises at random times and is assumably on it's way out anyways. Havent been able to convince myself it's worth getting a new $400+ tv yet, but ~100 I think I might be able to handle.

Awesome find of the month:

The Walmart in Xenia, OH has a bunch of clearance games for $12 in the aisle outside the electronics dept.

From the top of my head:

360 - The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Regular edition)
Xbox - Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (PH)
Xbox, PS2 -Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06
PS2 - Ratchet & Clank - Up Your Arsenal

and a few other decent games which I can't recall.

And just because it caught my eye

GBC - Resident Evil Gaiden - $19.99

While we're on the topic, anyone in the Dayton area camping out at a Best Buy for a wii? I'm planning on preordering just in case, at a nearby EB, but I'd really rather buy it at BB for the warranty and the reward zone points. The closest one to me is the one in Trotwood but I'm not sure I really want to go there alone as the neighborhood doesn't exactly make me feel safe on my own when it's dark out.

Andersons is basically like Meijer, just with more lumber. They have food, some clothes, toys, furniture, tons of stuff.

But yeah, they have electronics and games. Or they did anyway, have to check again next time I'm near by. I only know of the one by Sawmill and the one off of Brice.

This is probably YMMV, but I got Half-Life 2: Episode 1 at Meijer today for $8. They have a coupon for 50% off all clearance items in a big clearance section next to the seasonal items. One store had them all over and another barely had any.

A few notable PC games on clearance:

HL2:E1 - $8 AC
Freedom Fighters - $2.50 AC
Freedom Force vs The Third Reich - $17 AC
Battlefield 2 - $16 AC
Flatout 2 - $13 AC

Mad Catz Universal wheel - $22 AC

One store had a nice looking 23" JVC LCD TV on clearance for $900-something before coupon. Looked like a decent buy.

I think I'll roll in around 1am or so on sunday to see if there are any left.

also, according to slickdeals... today (11/13) only - meijer has 15% off general merchandise for opening a credit card, in addition to the regular 10% off. so an xbox360 premium is ~$305 + tax.

I live in Franklin and there's honestly not that much around here. There's Game Crazy stores in Springboro & Middletown(avoid the Springboro one, it has employees basically there just to collect a paycheck), a Gamestop in Middletown(usually the best place around here to find hard to find games) and a Game Rush in Middletown. That's all in the area. I do suggest looking around the pawn shops. They usually have some good deals(it's where I found a copy of Skies of Arcadia Legends for $10, which it was missing it's instructions).

The Gamestop store is in that small shopping center w/ Gold Star Chili and some other store in front of the Wal-Mart that's near the Towne Mall.

You didn't miss anything with the EB in the Towne Mall, it was pretty run down and didn't really get any good games.

Honestly, the employees at that Gamestop are excellent compared to other ones, they haven't once offered a pre-order or anything when I buy anything there.

Walmart in Parma / Brooklyn OH has 6 Wii's in stock as of 12:00 today. Was the first time I've seen a Wii in the wild in NE Ohio.

The Toys R Us in Eastgate has PS3's I believe, some kid who works there told me nobody wants them and they are just sitting there. He even seen a guy return 2 of them.

Pretty much every store is overstocked with PS3 consoles, so it's nothing to note about. Now Wii consoles on the other hand....

I normally avoid Buybacks (Cleveland & 161), just because their prices are insane, but if you're in the market for a Dreamcast, they had about 10 systems...and they're on sale for $13 right now.

What the heck is Buybacks? I saw one near the Dayton Mall and never heard of them before. Are they a used CD/DVD store or something?

Thye sell used DVDs, CDs & Games. Really decent prices on DVDs most of the time but they're games are kinda high (never looked at the CDs there).

Ah, besides Gamestop & Game Crazy, looks like I'll still shop at CD Connection then.

Hello, I'm in Akron. I generally find decent deals at the Exchange (a used game / cd / dvd store) but you have to look in the stacks of bargain games sometimes to get the best deals.

Anyone in the Akron, the Cuyahoga Falls Target has lots of Wii systems in stock tonight at closing time. I would guess at least 8 if not more.

Their prices seem to be really random. Most older stuff is overpriced and newer titles are at least on par with Gamestop's prices. I have no clue about how much credit they give for games.

There's a guy in the OT forum who is looking for stuff to do at night while he's staying in Cincinnati (Sharonville) in a few weeks. If you have any suggestions of stuff he should check out, stop by the thread and chime in (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139436).

Also, if anyone is interested, the Gamestop on Linden Ave in Dayton is hiring.

Oh and for anyone in the Dayton area, Family Video is clearing out some of their old GC, Xbox & PS2 games. Picked up MGS: Twin Snakes & MM Anniversary Collection for Gamecube yesterday for $7.95 each.

For the Toledo area Cags, the Iggle Video store in the Giant Eagle grocery store in Rossford OH will be selling all of its rental games and movies for $5.00 each on Monday June 11th at 9:00 AM.

I think this is for all rental games including the Xbox 360 games. There aren't many games available but some good ones like Forza 2, Gears and a few others. Most of the 360 games were already rented out or I would have rented them for 5 bucks and then bought them on monday for an additional 5 bucks (I think this is OK to do but the worker there said renting then buying on monday would have to be approved by the manager). There is a large selection of PS2/Cube/Xbox games too.

I am going to try to get NBA Home Court for the 360. If any Cag beats me to it, could you kindly pick it up for me?

I am going back tomorrow and Sunday to see if any good Xbox 360 rentals have been returned so I can rent them and then hopefully buy them on monday.

Anyone know if all the Iggle Videos are doing that or is it just that one? Is that one closing down or something? Specifically is the Iggle Video on Central in Sylvania having that sale?

Hmm... there's Video Outlet on Main St in Fairborn, next to the Bookery and one in Springfield. The Game Haven on Airway in Dayton had a few in the back last time I was there. Vacs and Videos on 201 in Huber Heights has a decent selection, mostly complete. I can't really think of any stores further south that have them. You'd probably do much better on ebay or elsewhere online.

Didn't even know about that video store in Fairborn. I'll try that & Game Haven. Vacs and Videos is nice for buying systems, it's just most of the games are overpriced.
