Didn't even know about that video store in Fairborn. I'll try that & Game Haven. Vacs and Videos is nice for buying systems, it's just most of the games are overpriced.
Agreed about Vacs and Videos, although their current gen prices are pretty reasonable for the most part. The Video Outlet in Fairborn used to be in the Skyway Plaza on Kauffman, but they just moved next to the Bookery on Main St like the last month or so. I had to ask to see the Saturn games at Game Haven. I think they usually only sell those on their ebay store, but they let me look through them and gave me a price based on their ebay prices.

I'm in a smallish town about half an hour from Dayton called Eaton. I've found some great deals at the local Walmart and KMart. Picked up Advance Wars DS for $5 and a Wii Points card for $8 at the KMart and a collector's edition of Final Fantasy XII for $12 at the Walmart.

Wouldn't really recommend taking time to come though, as the bargain bin selection is usually pretty hit or miss.

Hello, I'm in Akron. I generally find decent deals at the Exchange (a used game / cd / dvd store) but you have to look in the stacks of bargain games sometimes to get the best deals.

I've been going to that Exchange for like 10 years :) I lived in Akron for ten years, now I live in the Massillon area. There are Exchanges all over the place though (Kent, Massillon, Akron, Cleveland Ave. (newer)), and a bunch of others scattered around. It is by far the best place I've ever found to buy video games or CDs...as I've bought CDs that have been out for only a month or two for $2.50, games that are out for several months for $5-$10, etc. I pretty much go there every 3-4 days or so :P

Nothing else compares to The Exchange and nothing ever will...if you live in Ohio and haven't been to one, I seriously suggest you go check them out....You won't regret it..

Not really, unless you've heard of the somewhat rundown pawnshop here. They used to have a pretty good selection, but prices are pretty outrageous.

I went to the one on Howe road in Cuyahoga Falls and it seemed a bit pricey. Don't think I saw anything I was interested in for cheap.

Hey all for anyone still looking for a Wii my circuit city (polaris ) will be getting in 5 tom (sat) and possibly other CC as well. Since they aren't advertised then it's possible to snag one fairly easily. we should have them by noon I'd say.

Hey, anyone hear of a little town called Bellbrook? Probably not, seeing as how it's about 4 blocks of closed shops, a crappy pizza place, 2 ice cream parlors, so let us just say I'm from Dayton, then. Haven't been to it, but I've heard from my friend that Game Haven has some good deals. Then there's that Hollywood Video near me that's always selling old PS2 games for something like 3 for $20, which could be nice if they had any games besides Neo Contra.

Since the topic has been raised, I'm also in Akron and to anyone who has been in or is recommending The Exchange how is their stock of PS1/Dreamcast stuff?

These are two systems I really lack a lot of titles for but am looking to collect and outside of eBay I'm having a lot of problems finding titles. EB/GS obviously don't carry these around me anymore (nearest one is in Medina and the stock is dead), and a couple Gamecrazies are in Canton but generally don't have much.

Are there any other stores anyone knows of that might have pretty good quality stock for these systems?

The Exchange and Record Exchange are the exact same thing. Older stores are usually branded as Record Exchange and the newer ones are usually just The Exchange. Both have the same owner, stickers, etc.

The PS1 and Dreamcast selection varies per store of course but it's usually decent. There's always a few good games I'd pick up if I didn't have so many to play already no matter what store I go to. The ones closer to Cleveland seem to be a lot better, I'm guessing because they are busier and have more trade-ins of older games in suburbs rather than college kids with nothing but PS2/XBox sports games.

I recently move to northwest Columbus. I am looking stores/wholesalers within a 20 miles radius. In particular, I'm interested in PS2 and Wii consoles for export to Ecuador. That's my side business. Please let's stay in touch.

Which Hollywood Video is it? Cause there are a few like the one on harshman & the one on patterson that have Game Crazy stores in them.

As for Bellbrook, yeah, been through it before and it is pretty empty.

I know it's been mentioned before, also check Vacs & Videos on brandt pike in huber heights too. They have a decent selection of old games. There's also CD Connection, which I don't know if there's one in Dayton. But I know there's one in Kettering & Huber Heights. Decent selection of Xbox, PS2, GC & 360 games. Most of the PS2 games are usually $6.99.

There's a standalone Game Crazy store on Alex Bell Rd near 675 that usually has a pretty good selection of games. Check out my Dayton Area shopping thread (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70061). It has most of the stores in the area mapped out.

Does anyone know what happened to the CD Game Exchange in Kent? All of a sudden it just wasn't there.

I went to the Exchange(not CD/Game Exchange) at Chapel Hill and there selection was pretty pricey when it came to 360 games and certain Xbox games.(all I care about other than PC and The Xfiles DVDs)

I still need to try the one in Kent.

Regarding Cd Connections in the Dayton area, I wouldn't go out of your way to visit them, because its usually very hit or miss. And they rarely have anything from Nintendo worth having from what I've notice. But then again its been a month or two since I've last been to one.

I really just shop online when it comes to Gamecube games, I get better deals than going to a store.

As for CD Connection, it's usually good for PS2 games but hit or miss Xbox games. Did manage to grab Star Wars: Republic Commando(xbox) for $4.99 a few weeks ago. It was in their "As Is" section due to having no cover.

Radjago, I finally got around to checking out Vacs & Videos for Saturn games. Pretty slim pickings and was overpriced out the ass. They were wanting $49.95 for a disc only Shining the Holy Ark. It's been a few years since I went in there and from what I saw, it's gone downhill. It's now nothing but a junk shop for overpriced video games.

If you're ever in the Columbus area, stop by Play It Trade It (by Henderson & High). They've got a great old school selection.

Tell 'em Eshelman sent you and maybe they'll hook you up with a discount too. :)

hey question for you all. Maybe not the best place for this question but probably the best place to get an answer to it.

Me and my wife are coming up on our 8 year anniversary. We took the kids to Cosi in Columbus a few months back and really liked what we were able to see of the area. Just after thanksgiving I was gonna try to take her back without the kids (for 2 days hopefully) and see some more of the area. We ended up north somewhere that had this funky mall that reminded me of something out of 90210 and we also went into this dive mall somewhere in the main city.

My Questions are what's special and/or unique to see or do in the area. Shoping, games, theater or anything you can think of to mention. Fort Wayne's nice but I am sure there are a lot of things in Columbus worth mentioning. Can anyone reccomend a nice hotel and when I say nice I dont necessarily mean hotty totty. Just something thats not a dive hopefully a good price bleh. Sorry 4 kids use up da funds. Pool or jacuzi would be great. Pretty much looking for the best deal while not settling for junk. Bleh I think you get the idea. Sybaris great but to expensive, motel 6 cheap but to much of a dive. bleh.

if it ok mention it here , if its poluting this thread then please message me if you have any info. Thank you all for your time and consideration.

I went to COSI with my girlfriend last year and didn't find much to do downtown either. The City Center Mall was a lot more barren and ghetto than I remember from a few years ago. There's lots of smaller shops near the OSU campus, but downtown seemed like a wash.

A tiny bit outside of Columbus, but Easton Town Center has forever been my favorite shopping/entertainment spot when I'm in Columbus, and it's got some pretty nice hotels too... we almost stayed at the Hilton there but ended up going for something cheaper down the road. It did the job but wasn't exactly clean.

But Easton's great as there's a movie theatre, shadowbox cabaret, spas/salons, a comedy club, loads of shopping, several restaurant options nearby and inside.

For me, the fact that it's all in one place we can walk around is a great thing too, as we don't have to nickel and dime ourselves on fuel costs driving 5 miles here, 10 miles there, and so forth.

This may have even been the funky mall north of the city you mentioned, as it is just northeast of the city, so if this is the same place, oops.

Hello Ohio CAGs, here in Western PA the majority of the Giant Eagle Supermarkets "Iggle" video stores are closing down. A few shut down today and the rest will close down in the next 6 months. I started a thread in the Northeast Forum with the locations I know about:

Possibly we could start something here since there are alot of stores in the Ohio Area.

As for cool parts of Columbus:
Grandview (just of downtown)
German Village (just south of downtown)
Easton as mentioned
Arena District
South Campus Gateway (OSU main campus area/High Street)
Polaris if you like that kind of shopping extravaganza thing

Lots of fun/cool spots in Columbus. The downtown area is starting to come around (as evidenced by all the new bars in the Arena District). THey're building a lot of housing down there now and once people start living there in bigger numbers, downtown will develop even more.

City Center though...eh.

If you want a cheap hotel in Columbus try hotwire...The 3.5 star hotel in Worthington is a Sheraton Suites that is usually $70-80 a night the rooms are all suites and are pretty nice. My favorite downtown hotel is the Doubletree again an all suites hotel with good service.
As for things to do Columbus has the most retail space per capita of any non- tourist destination city in the nation but that said a mall is a mall and easton and polaris are malls.
If you want something to see go see the Santa Maria, go to Schwartz Castle, Kelton House museum, see a show at the Ohio, palace or state theatre. Go to the Newport music hall for a concert.
Check out German village and the brewery district for dining and nightlife
repeat after me I will not go to the mall

Not a video game deal but a question. Anyone else getting screwed by Insight? It's currently the only cable service available in my area, so I kind of don't have a choice. But they're pretty much commiting false advertising with what they're doing to me. I subscribed to the dvr + hdtv pak with digital choice, everything on their site tells me I should have TNT in HD and MHD along with ESPN 1 and 2 in HD. But I can't view these channeles and when I called they said I had to get the HD Pak which is an additional 8 bucks. But I checked the HD pak, it only comes with four channels (HDNet, HDNet Movies, Universal Movies, and something else).

I know Insight is kinda crappy but like I said I don't have a choice. Anyway if any of you in the Columbus area have Insight can you let me know if you're receiving TNT in HD or MHD without being subscribed to the HD Pak? Also if you're not receiving the channels please join me in calling and writing Insight as their program guide, ordering page, and website clearing state we should have it.

Yes, that happened to me too. I DVRed a couple shows I wanted to watch in HD, and TNT and MHD do not work, and there was something else screwy I noticed that I should have had but wasn't an available channel for some reason. ESPN works fine though.

Also, it seems like the game crazy closing first is the Polaris location. More stores to follow, including the ones connected to all the hollywoods that are closing. We just put a deal together today to buy out all they're fixtures :]

I saw a flyer for this event at the Dayton Mall arcade, Pocket Change, which btw has free play on a Centipede/Millipede/Missile Command/Bowling machine in the back. I thought it would be worth checking out.

For anyone in Columbus, Games Underground is closing (very sad) on 5th Avenue in Grandview (about a block from my house). Everything is 10% now, but I'm sure they'll drop lower as they get closer to closing (Nov. 25).

Shame to see an independent gaming store go out of business.

Their pricing wasn't always that overpriced. I've bought a couple used 360 games in there that were pretty reasonable. Maybe the rent got out of control or something.

Makes me wonder how that store down on 3rd does. I've never been in there. Something Gifts & Games or something.

Here's my Dayton area shopping thread.

The only independent store in the area that sells new games that I know of is The Game Haven in Riverside. There are a bunch of places that sell used games like Second Time Around, Vacs n Videos, CD Connection, and Gem City Records.

Futher south, I've heard good things about Game Junkie in West Chester, but I haven't made it there myself yet.

I was in Game Junkie on Monday night. Nice little store, but like 90% of the times I go in there, they didn't have what I was looking for and the prices are too high for me to find any impulse buys.

I'm starting to find quite a few smaller shops opening up over here on the east side of Cincinnati, but so far, they aren't exactly blowing my skirt up.

Hopefully, this new store (Play N Trade) opening up nearest my house will be good, but they have a Scion completely wrapped with gaming icons sitting out front and I don't think I've ever been to a store that has one of those type cars that ever has any deals.

Must be all the rage around here since another store called Game City 360 has a similar type thing on a Hummer.

Play N Trade isn't open yet, but it's off of the Milford Expressway exit and across from the Target.

Game City 360 is at the Rte. 28 exit across from the Meijer and GameCrazy (east from the 275 exit).

Good starter for the Columbus area, here are some I know of in Cleveland:

Slipped Discs
1321 N Carpenter Rd
Brunswick, OH 44212
330-225-4141

Fun City
5824 Ridge Rd
Cleveland, OH 44129
440-886-0055

Those are the two I know of from personal experience, but here are some I found after a quick yellow pages look (sorry in advance if their dead):

GameTime
13312 Cleveland Ave Nw
Uniontown, OH 44685
330-699-3333

Game Quest
20760 Southgate Park Blvd
Maple Heights, OH 44137
216-581-3422

Video Gameworld
1031 Kenmore Blvd
Akron, OH 44314
330-753-2008

Game Trader
428 Portage Trl
Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221
330-929-3423

Game Trade
2400 Romig Rd
Akron, OH 44320
330-745-7927

K&M Records
117 N. Chestnut
Ravenna, OH 44266
330-296-8276

Some of them are multi-purpose (K&M Records and Slipped Discs both have large amounts of DVDs and music), but they all sell games. I swear by Slipped Discs, so go check them out if you're close to here.

Last time I checked, the Video Trader in the Brice Outlet mall was still there but taken over by the people who owned the Asian cloths and trinket shop across from it. Pretty awful selection and prices the last time I checked. I actually worked for that place back between 1998 and 2001 and the prices on the old PS1 and earlier stuff looked like they hadn't changed since then.

There is only one VGE left and I listed it above.

(Didn't know about Level One games in Hilliard, I'll have to go check it out. Westpointe looks really promising, have never seen a store wall to wall with more stuff in it)

The talk a few threads ago reminds me ... are there still any Game Swap stores in Cincy? Knew the owner, wasn't a big fan, but they did have a good varied selection.

Yeah, there are three Game Swaps in the Cincy area. As for Westpointe, it has an excellent selection at decent prices. That was always my go to place if I was looking for something difficult to find at a reasonable price while I was in Columbus.

Sam's Club in Fairlawn Ohio has Rockband for the 360 for $149.99. They had a stack of them on Sunday and it was marked "Seasonal Item".

I don't have the room for all of that stuff, so I passed. But thought I'd post if anyone was interested. I'm not sure if this was Sam's regular price or not... it didn't seem to be marked down.

With the news that Movie Gallery is closing 400 more stores, I checked out my local GCs. gamecrazy.com is only listing the Patterson road store on their store locator - I'm thinking this means the other two could be closing. Can anyone confirm?
I don't usually shop at Game Crazy since I've got other stores closer, so I dunno if Google Maps is just fucking up and those closed before, or if those two stores are closing in the future.

In Dayton, right?

The one on Harshman rd. is still open, as the stand alone store at Cross Pointe Centre in Centerville is still open too.

Game Crazy's site is screwed up. It'll only show the store in that town, none of the ones close to it(type in Centerville & Huber Heights for the other two).

Yeah, Game Swap's selection was always a positive, they often had stuff for systems no one else would bother with (I recall years back even seeing a Neo Geo joystick at the Tri-County Mall one).

As for stores up this way, I LOVE Westpointe Video Games. New releases traded back in are always $34.99 or $37.99 to sell, no one else can touch those prices, great for me as I re-partition my collection from older to newer.

And I do have to give the normal love to my old place of work, Game Junkie ... had Dual Shock 3's in stock, bought one up this past weekend, loving it.

Now if only the nearest Game Rush for their deals didn't have to be an hour away at Kings' Island and Mason.

Btw, in NE Ohio, the North Olmsted FYE has their games for 50% off, but there really wasn't jack squat there of interest. Maybe about 10 360 games and most of them were pretty weak. Plenty of older Xbox and PS2 titles, but nothing of note.

Btw, if anyone finds a new copy of Bioshock for the 360 at FYE for $20, I'd be happy to take it off your hands.

There was a story about that in the paper a couple weeks ago about that. There probably won't be a clearance sale until they finish building the new one. Much when Wal-mart closed the store near Target to open the Supercenter on Brandt Pike.

ah nice. what about systems? like a 360 anything off of that?
When I said games, I meant software explicitly. There is no discounted hardware as far as I know, and only a few accessories, like a 64MB memory card for 360 for $16 or a VGA cable for $20. It's mostly games on clearance.

Interesting titles I found while digging:

DS:
Clubhouse Games
Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime
Etrian Odyssey
Hotel Dusk
Picross

GC:
Donkey Konga 1 w/bongos and 2 w/o
Eternal Darkness
Super Mario Baseball

PS2:
Disgaea 2

PS3:
Full Auto 2
Ninja Gaiden Sigma

There were plenty more titles available, but those were the ones that were notable to me.

They had literally hundreds of copies of old sports games, Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec, and lots of Microsoft published games like DoA4, Kameo, Project Sylpheed, and Fuzion Frenzy 2. I wonder who does their ordering and how he keeps his job.

I picked up Hotel Dusk for $17.50 and Etrian Odyssey for $12. Nothing else really hit me as must-buy price-wise.

They had 20% off of display items, including TVs and furniture, 50% off most clothing, and some really good deals on seasonal items.

On another note I stopped by Second Time Around earlier that day and picked up Landstalker for the Genesis complete for $8 and Golden Sun: The Lost Age for GBA cart-only for $5. Also they had a cart-only copy of Car Battler Joe for GBA for $15, 3 copies of Vandal Hearts for PS1 for $25 each, and 2 copies Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II for PS2 for $50(!) each.

Radjago, any idea when the Meijer on harshman is closing? I know I went last week and it was 30-60% off general merchandise(on what was left).

The Game Haven got broken into monday night. As far as we can tell all they took is a used 360 (no cords, just the system), 2 used PS2's, and a used XBOX.

The XBOX and PS2's have Game Haven warranty stickers on the bottom and the 360 has a sticker on the side with my crappy handwriting on it (it says "seems to work, needs further testing").

If anyone finds these for sale in the Dayton area PM me ASAP or call our store at (937)252-5635.

thanks!
That sucks! I can't believe that's all they stole. What a waste! Hope they get caught. I'll keep an eye on ebay, craigslist, and the local papers for listings.

Anyone know where to get a dreamcast for only like under 20 bucks? I don't need any controllers or anything I just need a good console that plays games. I don't need any cables either.
They go for $40 or so on ebay. I'd keep an eye out on craigslist or local pawn shops.

Yep, went there yesterday. Saw a lot of mediocre games(jeez, they had a ton of copies of Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run for Xbox). Might pick up Justice League Heroes & a couple others if they get up to 80% off.

Stopped in today, and it's 40% - 60% for gen merch, and 50% off for games. But most of the good games are gone now. I figure a few ebayers raided it something fierce sunday. Even still, there's bargains to be had if you want to get few games on the cheap (Jak 3 for $6... why not!)

to add... store closes in 13 days

Nope, there weren't that many good games to begin with. It's been pretty much crap that Gamestop & Game Crazy are overstocked with ever since they started clearing everything out.

Judging from the ad in the paper yesterday, the games at Meijer on Harshman Rd. are now 60% and might be 80% around Sunday.

I stopped by yesterday and it was 60% off marked prices. Slim pickings though. I'm amazed that all the DS, PS3, and Wii games disappeared so quickly.

Just got back from the University Heights Target...lots of clearance deals. PC/Mac GH3 for $50 marked down from $70. Bluetooth keyboard for PS3 for $25. Shure headphone $70 marked down from $100.
Just wanted to let the Clevelanders know about all these deals.

If you want a Wii, Toys R Us will probably be a good place to look. We just got 45 on our truck last night(Eastgate TRU) and we are supposed to be getting two more 40+ shipments in the next two weeks. I would call first though because Im not sure if they will be holds for ads or not.

Ended up buying Orange Box(PS3) for 24.xx with the $5 off coupon last night at the target near Polaris in Columbus. They also had some other good deals. There was one copy of OB left.

That's pretty damn sad. Did the store keep track the registration numbers on the systems? Hopefully they'll catch the 2 guys that did it.

To be honest, that area that the store is in has gone downhill the past 10 years. I think that's why CD Connection moved up to across from Wright State's campus(until it eventually closed). I remember a couple times that store got robbed before they moved.

We're really not as bad off as the news makes it out. We ended up losing a premium and elite 360 along with a handful of games but it's not like it's going to put us under or anything. We don't keep serial numbers or anything on file but even if we did i doubt we'd ever find them. We're currently looking at ways of improving security.

The response time from the police was awesome (about 2 minutes) but not much you can do when the d-bags only took 45 seconds (as mentioned). Normally robberies are an annual thing, apparently not this year.

At least channel 7 ran a legit story, Fox news made us sound like the small shop struggling to make it in the big scary world, they also seemed more concerned about the release of GTA 4 than the robbery. To top it off, the article on their website is very poorly written (misspellings and a mention that $2K is all we make in a month, that would barely pay rent, much less 12 employees).

For those interested, we've got a used Wii in stock (that managed to avoid being stolen). It's a little expensive at $240 though.

Agreed about the news coverage. Ch 7 ran a good story about the theft; halfway thru the Fox story I was wondering what the hell they were reporting about!! Where did GTA4 even enter into the equation?!

I did manage to be in the Fox video though. ;)

I think the angle Fox was going for was that people may be breaking into stores to get copies of GTA 4 to play/sell. It came out pretty stupid.

Any Dayton-ites looking for a wii should be one of the first two people in line at the Trotwood Sears on Sunday, so a little birdie tells me.

Hey guys. Not an Ohio resident myself, but I found a coupon some of you might be able to use. There's a set of Gamestops that have a coupon flyer that includes a 50% trade-in bonus coupon on it. Rules: 5 games at a time, doesn't stack with anything but Edge, coupon must be surrendered. Here are the Ohio stores listed on my coupon (got it in Indianapolis):

1) Eastgate Mall (4601 Eastgate Blvd, Cincinnati)
2) Eastgate Square (4394 Eastgate Square Dr, Cincinnati)

A little specific, but if you're in that area, check those GSes for the coupons. They're good until the end of August.

If it were, I think there'd be a thread somewhere for it by now. That, or the Blockbuster thead on VG deals would be atwitter with plans for a flipping frenzy.

I don't do trade-ins anyway, they're a rip off.

Neither do most of us, but when there's a 60% bonus, a lot more people would consider it worthwhile. I don't think getting $32 back on a $40 investment ala FFVII:CC is a bad deal, for example.

In conclusion: what the hell, dude, I was just trying to help.

I'm from Whitehall, a suburb of Columbus on the east side. I used to shop here but Columbus hasn't had much good stuff here recently. I tend to travel out of town a couple days a week. Been to Dayton, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and about every small town in Southwest Ohio. Not to mention parts of Kentucky and Indiana.

Chicago and New York are next on my list.

I've returned to central Ohio after a four year sabbatical in the Windy City.

Damn it, everything here looks the same! What the hell have y'all been doin'?!

I kid. Drove by Bethel the other day to see that Crazy Burt's no longer exists. Never bought anything there, but it's always sad to see the little guy disappear. Used to price match their new releases all the time (they generally sold for $4-5 dollars less).

There was another similar store in Grove City, still went by the old "Video Games Express" title. Anyone know if it's still there?

It's still there and Burt still owns it. As far as I know it's the last VGE. At one point Burt owned like 5 of those and he had Crazy Butr's on Bethel.
