Hey any CAGs from O-H-I-O? If so lets discuss all local(er) dealers here. I live in a suburb off of columbus. We can also discuss garage sales for charites and churches and such.
So anyone from OHIO?

Reynoldsburg, OH here (little suburb right outside of Columbus). does anyone here go to any of the following locally owned and operated stores:
Press Start Gaming- On 256 in Pickerington
Video Game Music Xchange- Schrock Road location or Smokey Row location
Rick's Video Trader- Brice Outlet Mall off of Brice Rd.
Columbus is a great place for cheap gaming goodness, lots of Mom and Pop stores and there are a ton of Eb's and Gamestop's within a 25 minute drive.

I'm your "neighbor" in Pickerington. Last "Mom and Pop" store I visited was back in the late '90s. Somewhere near Hamilton Road/Morse Road in Gahanna at a plaza by the movie theatre. I try to stick to online deals because the thrill of the hunt of shopping for B&M deals is long gone for me (unless I know for sure if a game is in stock and/or it won't be a wasted trip). Circling I-270 searching for that last Saturn or Dreamcast game to fill out my collection just doesn't sound as fun as it use to anymore.
If want a game bad enough I would be willing to pay top $$$ somewhere online as my time is more valueable to me these days than searching blindly. Besides, who knows, maybe when I'm looking for a game on the road I could be missing out on a deal online?

Blah. I can't stand looking through the glass cases to see what they have. It isn't that bad for games but browsing for used CDs is horrible. It makes me wish Boogie Records was still around.
I still go to allied all the time,(been going since they 1st opened the 1st store on secor) I still get decent deals there.

I should stop there again some time. The Allied comments here have brought back some memories of good deals... like Puzzle Fighter for Playstation for something like $15. Parappa for $5. I just don't like the atmosphere, but I suppose it's no worse than an EB or Gamestop.

One of my favorite places to go in the area is The Exchange (they have them all over the greater Cleveland area). Cleveland used to be a pretty fun town, but these days I've gotta say Pittsburgh is cooler... The Warhol museum and the fact that George Romero still haunts Pittsburgh and sets all his zombie movies there pushes it over the top. Plus you don't always feel like you're about to get ganked when you're walking in Pittsburgh.
Anyway, I grew up in Youngstown but left years ago... that place is a pit.
It's been fun to read this thread and hear all the town names I remember from growing up, though! :)

At the Chapel Hill area, in the plaza next to Best Buy/Target (The one with Staples in it) there's an Exchange. That's the only non chain store I can recall off the top of my head that I've frequented that still sells video games. Unfortunately, Game Trader in Cuyahoga Falls was bought by a new owner again, and the first thing he did was sold off all the video game stuff, making the store focused on card games and D&D. some of the collection still may be at The Exchange, but I doubt there's anything good left.
Haha, no shit? Here I thought that improbably there were no other Case CAGs. Luckily I only pretend to work on my thesis so I don't have to go on campus anymore.

Except Gamestop or EB dosen't play god awful music that makes you want to stab out your eyeballs with an icepick. ;) I also agree Boogie Records is missed. It used to be the best record store in Toledo. Now you have to deal with the huge corporate stores, and the numbskulls at Allied.

I've gotten so many nice deals there over the years. Especially back when they had no idea what stuff was worth. I remember one trip walking out of there with a top-load NES, and a bunch of Sega CD RPGs (Lunar, Vay, Popful Mail) for a song. Unfortunately they are better informed these days, but you can still find the occasional deal that slips through. This was especially cool when they had all their LPs for $1 each a few years ago. I sure miss those days.

Near Columbus myself, got introduced to the site during the start of the Circuit City $5 sale. I didn't realize it was going to be as active as it was (I thought I'd look like an idiot there with my list, but I was quite wrong). As it was, though, had the ByteSizeDeals list, which was quite different and lacked some of the cooler games, so a CAG lent me his list and helped me look for a few, to be nice. (But not before he grabbed the only copy of ZoE2 they had, which I picked up but set back down because it wasn't on my BSD list. Haven't seen it that cheap since, man did that hurt. ;D)
This site's great, but it's also conditioned me to avoid picking up hardly ANY games at their regular asking prices. Heck, I was cringing on buying We Love Katamari for the full $29.99 once it came out.

Thanks. Wandered around Coventry for 5 years, and never went in that store, for whatever reason. Thanks for checking.
I've seen plenty of decent deals on games at the local Exchanges. The one in North Olmsted and Parma Heights are not bad at all and sometimes even better than EB.

Dont know if anybody cares but I saw Outlaw Golf 2 at Kmart in Seven Hills for 5.99 if anybody wanted to pick it up.
Go for it. I just wait until those $50 games are cheaper than the B2G1 price.
I agree, I will wait for most of these games to come down.(have too many as is to play/finish) Now most of you guys know that you won't even finish those games(maybe not even open them) and by time you do they will be $20 or less, and you will have cag remorse. Because you know you could have waited and got it way cheaper!

I think a good definition of retro would be : anything EB/Gamestop does not sell...
This effectively includes anything older than the PS1/N64 generation. They have discontinued the 16 bit stuff, will soon be sold out of it. I suppose used PC games would have to include anything not Windows XP ready.

Rumor has it I've seen a couple of LeBron's high school games. I might have spent a year or six down in Columbus, too.
Evening. First post after lurking around here for quite some time. I'm in Columbus, the Victorian Village area south of campus to be more accurate.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but speaking of Retro gaming, when EB at City Center moved to South Campus gateway, a new game store took its place. It goes by the name of Haven Games and they have 2600, NES, SNES, Saturn and Dreamcast titles (in addition to current gen), as well as quite a few retro systems in the case for sale (including a Super Pong, among others). Just figured this might catch someones interest. Still no 360's to be found in town though :P
Okay, I'm currently living in Plain City (work in Dublin) on the west side of Columbus. I've lived around OSU campus area in the past as well as Reynoldsburg area. . . so I've been all over Columbus looking high and low for games for the past 11 or 12 years. My best find was a classic Atari 2600 one-of-a-kind prototype (The Pink Panther) in a thrift store on Parsons Avenue back in 1992. There have been some other great classic game finds, but I have mainly been doing the CAG thing, lately, with PS2, GC, Xbox, DS, and PSP retail store searching.
In the past few years I've lived in Daytonesque towns like Greenville, Centerville, Cedarville, and Springfield. I've also lived in Fremont and Lima before, but not for very long (<2 years). . . Well, anyway, do I win the Ohio award?

How are their prices on the retro stuff? Reasonable?
I'm not sure actually. I've mostly went in to look around and didn't actually notice prices on a lot of the stuff oddly enough. Just went in out of curiosity the other day. I go in about once a week to poke around the bookstore, I'll give the prices a look when I do. My only real disappointment is that the Saturn selection of games is nothing but rubbish. Pretty much just sports titles. They do have the systems with two controllers for $30 which strikes me as decent.

They also had Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis used for $10 (it's $29.99 at Gamestop used). I saw quite a few other decent prices including PoP:SOT for $10, Mercenaries for $10 (slightly scratched) and mint for $15. I didn't check for PS2 since I don't have that game system.

Hi, I am new here as well. I live in Lucasville/Portsmouth, OH. It is about 2 hours south of Columbus (23) and 1 hour 45min east of Cincy...Looks like I am the only one from this area. Not a suprise since, like the guy from hillsboro, this place is BFE.
I found this site through RF Generation http://www.rfgeneration.com, with the big TRU deal. So I got up and left at 6 in the morning to go to the TRUs in Columbus...I got a load of games at the TRU on W. Broad. RE4, The Legend of Zelda 4 Swords, Wario Ware (GBA and GC), FZero, Pikmin 2, Advance Wars 2, and Metal Slug Adv....This was the best deals (on brand new games) that I have ever found....I love this site.
TRU on W. Broad St in Columbus is one of the stores closing...
Anyway...this is sad, but does anyone know if there is anything worth making a 2 hour treck to get? Or is the place cleaned out?

TRU on West Broad St. had an ordinary selection of games. Nothing to get excited for at 10% off though. If you have a DS or PSP though, they did have a bunch of cool accessopries (30% off I think).
West Broad Street is turning into a wasteland. I haven't been to the flea market in a while (my spanish isn't that good), so I am not sure if anyone still sells games there, Gamestop is wiped out after the holdays (they did have some dirt cheap N-Gage games for the two fans of the system though).
Buybacks, EB at Geogersville Sq. seem to be my local haunts to the south (Buybacks has done some reorganizing in the last couple weeks, had some preowned 360 games out).
West Pointe Video Games and the Hilliard EB Games are my haunts to the North of Broad Street.
Brandon's Video Games is in the middle, but it's virtually empty of inventory now, occassionally you can find a new release a bit cheaper than you would at EB though.
Now and then I journey to Video Games Express in Grove City. Nothing to exciting, but it's the only place I can find anything pre-ps1 anymore..
Later,
Trebuken

Well, depending out how good the backroom right behind the R-Zone Cash register has been cleaned over the past few years, there WAS a mint sealed copy of Lunar 2 for PSone in there hidden. It was like a joke we had going..to see how long it would stay there. Walk into the room and go back, past the staircase and straight back the shelving there, get down and check under the bottom shelf on the floor under there. It was wrapped in a paper towel. I always wondered if anyone had found that. :)
Also, once when I was working there, the manager told me to go upstairs in that room and clean up that freaking mess thats the upstairs room above R Zone. I go up there and there were all these old TVs they had out for demos and some old systems. He told me to bring them all down and since it was getting close to Memorial Day, he was going to give them out to the employees at the cookout here were going to have on the back dock. I saw my chance and said "Well if I have to carry all that stuff down the stairs, do I get to just pick one TV and system out for myself to keep for doing it? He agreed. So as Im cleaning up that mess I found a GXTV..those pretty awesome small TVs with the swing out speakers and a built in subwoofer. I said "Ill take this one!" and he was cool with it. So I put that into my car. Then as Im going through all the other stuff up there, I found an Xbox that had no box or controller, but everything else with it. It still had the plastic protector sheet on top of it. Now this was within the first year the Xbox was out so it was still like $300. I look at him and say "Well..you DID say I could have a system I found up here...how about this?" he just shrugged and said "Sure...why not?" so I got a free Xbox and a free $350 TV that day. I gave the Xbox to my best friend on the condition he would buy Halo so I would have someone to link play with. Too bad that was about the only day that store manager was anywhere near cool.

I remember those GXTVs. They were only 13-14" IIRC, but they had shutters with speakers on either side of the screen that you could shut over the screen for storage or travel.
Oh, I found a picture.

Anyway...this is sad, but does anyone know if there is anything worth making a 2 hour treck to get? Or is the place cleaned out?

I go to Eastgate as often as I make it up to columbus (Not very often).....I was wondering if you had any of the 9.99 games left?
I'll try and keep you up to date on both locations as I live in Columbus and work in the Cincinnati area. We actually ran into each other at the West Broad location that day. Glad to see you made out well, and even though you grabbed the last copy of Metal Slug Advance, I was able to pick it up at another location. :)

Yeah I was working then and we didn't have a list of the games that were on sale and we only had a few people who knew about sale come in.
Hah, yeah, I was one of them. I was probably the second guy there, and there was a girl that you checked out a head of me that morning.
Awesome though, welcome to CAG.

Holy crap that's awesome! All that's upstairs now is and old PSOne and some broken DK Bongos. I'm holding out for the XBOX 360 display, hopefully they'll get rid of that while I still work there. I'll be sure to check for Lunar 2 on Thursday, I'll definitely tell you if it's still there. Who did you work with there, were James and Ryan there?

James was there....no Ryan when I was there. We all got such a kick out of James the day he showed up with that convertible car of his with the Dolphins airbrushed on the back of it. Thats the funniest thing Ive ever seen!
James would always quote "The Princess Bride"..saying "Im Indeigo Montoyo...you killed my father...prepare to die"

If anyone collect NES/SNES carts and lives near Akron you may want to check out the Chapel Hill Exchange store. A guy traded in a crapload of good stuff yesterday. I'm not that up on what's valuable, but I did notice a boxed Super Mario RPG and Final Fantasy III.

If you close to where I do, the Circuit City by the Eastwood Mall has some good stuff in their bargain bin thing, picked up PowerDrome for $1.50, went to FYE like right next door to CC, trade in for $9

I was there yesterday too - there was some dude who was bragging about being an ebayer and convincing me that boxed Mario RPG was worthless because it didnt have a manual. Was that you? :-)
That store is usually loaded with good stuff. I wlaked out with Airforce Delta Storm Xbox, plus Power Stone and Soul Calibur DC for $20 total.
And yeah, the Rolling Acres TRU is the only one closing

I used to love the Exchange, but they've been taking their prices up lately. PS2/XB/GC games that used to be $5 have moved up to $10. They charge $9 for most good used CDs. And used 360 games are the same price they are everywhere else. Now the only thing they're good for is OOP stuff.

Sharing the same parking lot. You have to drive up to to to see it. Pull in like you were going to go the Walmart, but keep driving past the front, and once you get past the tire center a SuperWalmart will pop up. I was surprised when I found it also. It is hidden from the road.

Not long I don't think, less than a week? I'm not for sure, since I live out in Loveland, but me and gf went to her parents last night and stopped over there to check it out. They didn't have anything that I noticed on sale, but they might actually hold off on that till the Grand Opening deal on tomorrow.

Bah, too bad there aren't really any good independent game stores up here... I don't think anyone can really compete with the ridiculous number of EB/GS stores. I could use a Zelda CE for less than the $30-$40 I'd have to pay there.

I go to the Kent CD/game exchange every so often, but they have raised the prices a while back, and I can get much better quality stuff at Gamestop or EB Games.
They also don't have as high of a tradein value as EB Games or Gamestop.(I tried to trade in my XBOX a while back, and I could get $64 at EB/GS or $47 at the CD/Game exchange)
MightySlacker

True - they don't seem to have a lot of stuff. The one in Akron is a little better. The Exchange stores are much better - the one in Kent by Starbucks is loaded, so is the Falls store. They are also getting a bit pricier
