The "Africa" scams have been circulating ebay for many, many months. Check the forum for other similar posts.

Its a scam if

A : More than one word is spelled incorrectly ( or the same word repeatedly)
B : It mentions Africa, or an African in any way ( not being racist, its true)
C : It appears that you will end up better off than you should.

It's a scam ... the MO is fake and they use you as a pawn ... the scam: you cash the MO and give them thier money, about a week later the MO fails to get cleared by the bank and they deduct the 2500 from your account ... don't respond to them but send it to ebay. They're working with the FBI to catch these guys.

OKay let me explain to you the nature of the scam:

They DO send a check. Usually a cashier's check. Most people cash it and deduct the difference and send via Western Union (the fucking devil) Bill Pay. 10 days later, the check bounces, scammers are nowhere to be found, and you're fucked.

That is why you always weight for ANY payment to clear. I don't care if it takes 5 months, I'll just sit on your package until it clears. :)

Also, African Ebay scam is getting so old now. I used to reply with something funny but I get so many that I just delete them now.

Ha, not a very sophisticated scammer. The more devious ones don't tell you the payment will be for more than the agreed amount until after they pay or at least until after you get back to them expressing interest.

They also will at least make up some story as to why they need to pay $2,000 over on a $300 purchase  This guy apparently just wants to send you $2K more 'for fun'. Something like 'My client has received $2500 from a loan repayment in the UK and intends to sign the entire amount over to you to expedite this transaction."

It would be a little fun to screw with these people by agreeing to take the payment and then letting them know you will most certainly be waiting 30 days for their payment to fully clear into your bank account. I imagine they would then start cursing and/or threatening you with all sorts of nonsense. In the end it wouldn't really be worth the time, plus your bank would potentially charge you a fee for a bounced check.

But there is a site (http://www.419eater.com/) devoted to people wasting the fuckers' time.
