The Hollywood Video In Mishawaka on McKinley Ave. is closing. Everything in 70-80% off. Just bought about three games and some movies. The games were all 4-5$ and the movies were 3-5$. There were still some good games left for DS, PS2, Xbox (original). The manager said they would be closing this weekend. Of course, all the fixtures are for sale...if you need a candy rack or something.

Target on Coldwater has some PC stuff marked down.
I noticed Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Universe at War, and the expansion for SW: Empire at War. I think most of them were $12.99, but I'm not sure about Quake Wars.

A couple people have the SF stick on the trade forums. It's not great but there aren't any great mass produced sticks for the original Xbox.

The Indianapolis Star has the Meijer coupon in it today. It's $5 off any video game $49.99 and up.
I might use it on Rainbow Six if I don't drag myself all the way up to the Fry's in Fishers.
Living in Indianapolis and I'm looking for either a Sega Saturn RF adapter or RCA adapter. I prefer the RCA one, but relatively not picky. I just pulled my Saturn out of storage and my original adapter is practicly useless.

Atomic Hobbies and Games is discounting all their consoles. They are going to only carry games and no hardware. They told me on wednesday that they had a Saturn for $25. I thought someone here might be interested.
Disc Replay has some Saturn games in. Mostly common stuff. They had 3 or 4 tg16 hucards too.
I also decided this week that I'm going to start collecting old games again. I used to have about 130 Atari carts but I sold them when I graduated. So starting over I'm looking for old systems if and games if anyone is trading, selling, or junking them.
I have my nes torn open. I'm going to have to order a new 72 pin connector.

What other kinds of hardware did they have? It's been awhile since I've gone there. I doubt they have any of the more obscure systems, which is what I have left to look for.
I think I have almost all of the systems from the major game companies, except the 32X. I only have two systems that are of the more obscure type: JVC X'Eye, and a Vectrex. I'm wanting to find the Sega Nomad, CDX, and the Turbografx-16. I would love to find some of those systems, but I'm more focusing on games right now. I'm really wanting to collect for the snes, saturn, and ps1. I'm especially wanting to get some of the Working Designs games for the ps1. Those are going to be hard to get complete.

Disc Replay had a couple of top load NES, an SNES, some N64's, Dreamcast, PS1 and PS2's.
I think their DC was only $20 or $25, but I'm not sure. The NES was $60.
They have a ton of NES, SNES, and Genesis carts. I didn't dig through their PS1 stuff.
I spoke with Atomic on the phone, they said they had some N64's and I think an Xbox, and the Saturn.

Atomic is a pretty cool gaming store. It's small, but their prices seem decent, and the selection isn't bad on the miniature and collectable games. Their gaming area is clean. (As opposed to the Keep where someone pissed all over the bathroom floor last time I was there)

BTW, I made the rounds on the north side of town on lunch this week.
Atomic Hobbies & Games:
I spoke w/ the staff. They confirmed that they're getting out of gaming hardware, and are going to start a big push on just games in Apr. They've reorganized and set aside about half the store with empty shelves for video games. They had a stack of PS1's and N64's for $20 each in the case, some loose controllers, a couple of Atari carts. They had a Genesis and N64 missing accessories for $10. They did have a gigantic original Gameboy case (the one that looks like a giant Gameboy). I didn't see a price. They said they are actively buying games right now.
Disc Replay:
They have a decent stock of NES stuff right now. The manager says he's seen at least one guy coming in with a big binder of prices and bulk buying stuff there to trade in at McVans. He said classic systems have been in short supply, he's only seen 1 TG16 and 2 Saturns since they opened, but lots of NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1, PS2, systems. He has big bins of accessories behind the counter, so if you're looking for specific controllers or adapters, ask to see the bin for that system. They had two Genesis2's and 1 original one in the case, $16 each.
Is Jay still one of the owners of The Keep?
No Jay is no longer one of the owners...
Also a spot to check is Lev's Pawn shop on North Wells Street for all you watchers online. They carry all systems and all games if they can. Nice selection of NES titles along with much more. Prices might be a bit steep, but working on more solid prices.

here is a guide with decent pictures if you want to see how it's done.

I've heard some people say the replacement connectors wear out faster than the originals, I don't know how true it is, but they're only $5 - $10, so even if you do have to change them again it's not a big deal.
Yeah, it's definitely worth it if you have to replace it every 2-3 years or so. I replaced mine about 2 months ago and the games play perfectly right after it was replaced.

You just need a philliips head screwdriver with at least a 3 or 4 inch shaft.

I would recommend the special security bits so you can open nes games. You can get those off of ebay as well. It's good to have a clean connector and clean games.
I really need to get one of those new connectors as well. I have two non-functioning NES systems in my closet.
arbiter
03-31-2008, 07:42 AM
Yeah, you can clean NES gams w/o the security bit thought, but you'd need it if you want to change a battery inside one.
You should clean all your games before using them with a new NES connector or you'll just crud up the new one. I wonder if that's why people complain the fix is temporary. Perhaps they end up putting their 20 year old dirty Mario / Duck Hunt carts in the new connector.
To clean a NES game, try cutting a "pink pearl" type eraser into a wedge shape so it'll fit in the mouth of the cartridge. Use that to buff the heavy crud off the connector. Then use a qtip dipped in rubbing alcohol to remove any residue. Make sure the game is dry before use.

I guess I'll ask you guys here first instead of creating a new thread: For selling game lots on eBay, how do you guys organize the games? A mix from every genre and release year or lots by genre? I'm gonna try and get rid of my old PS2/Xbox games on there.

Put a bunch of stinkers with one that you know has a decent value.
Genres are probably helpful. Then list as something like "PS2 Platform game lot, "Popular Title, etc"

Just curious, what model of psp did you get?
It's one of the original black ones. I think the motherboard says C1003 or something upside down in the UMD door.
I haven't tried downgrading or custom firmware or anything. I don't want to screw it up.

Less than $300. I had a good system that I gave to someone as a gift since we were moving in with family. Now we're getting our own place again and I'd love to have a little surround sound with my games again.

I was at Target and there was a bunch of games on Clearance at Glenbrook location.
Naurto: Ultimate Ninja (PS2) = $5
Formula One: CE (PS3) = $15 (The game is really good IMO, and was worth the $50 I paid).
Genji: Days of Blade (PS3) = $20.98 (I kind of like it, but has some flaws).
NBA Street: Homecourt (PS3) = $20.98
F.E.A.R. (PS3) = $20.98
and there was more on all platforms.

F1: CE, there was only one copy left. I know there was two copies of NBA Street left, but Meijer has it for the same price too. I was there around 6pm.
I went to GS yesterday in the Glenbrook Mall just before 6:30pm and I did not see that girl slidecage was talking about. Well, I did go there to trade-in Virtua Tennis 3 and Super Swing Golf. So, I trade in both games and was told I got $14 store credit, and I knew something wasn't right, and come to find out the employee forgot to give me the bonuses (He was a bit chubby and wore thick glasses, and looked kind of young). So I ran back to GS to tell them this, so he voided my previous transaction and re-did my store credit. While I was there, I decided to pick up DW6 PS3 since they had a used copy in and I had a 25% coupon off of used PS3 games. So okay, I buy the game and he gets the store credit, all Edge bonuses/discounts right, and 25% discount right. So I leave the store to check the condition of the disc, he forgot the disc in the case, so I had to run back to GS to get it in. It sucks because I was thinking this would go quick (I was getting late for a haircut too). Lol, just letting you know to watch out for this employee. He was working with that bald short guy at our GS who tends to be very pushy.

Don't know if this has been discussed, but apparently McVan's will not give a refund for defective items. My GF bought 2 NES games that I could not get to work, and they would not give her the money back. She had to take store credit, so we went yesterday and got enough to take care of that.
They'll never see another dime of hers - or mine. I didn't like them much anyway, and the assholes working at the Georgetown location have only cemented it for me. The employees there are the most rude I have seen in quite a while - especially the chunky guy with dark shaggy hair and beard. Special "Tool" award to him. Avoid.

the only time i deal with mcvans when i know i can make a profit
trade 2 100-150 Goozex pt games for a game that fetches 500+

The problem is that the box isn't in that great of condition and it didn't have the power adapter. I probably would be better off trading it with a collector. I just don't look forward to having to ship it. I wonder if I should try craigslist or digital press.

Check with disc replay. They had RF adapters in their NES accessory bin, they might have an ac adapter too.

answer your questions
1 ... What would somone need to do to thow them out..
answer.... About 10 to 30,000 bucks to start to get a major inventory. There is a nice building for rent right next to mcvans on east state for 290 a month...
2.....What could a "new" store due to get the CAG along with the die hard plastic fans in the doors.
break into their houses and drag them into your store in the middle of the night... LOL
Mostly really do touraments. Be nice to is customers.. Dont rip them off.
3....Do you think Fort Wayne could even support another resell and trade place..
answer...... Nope. We have 3 mcvans. at least 3 to 5 pawnshops ..... 2 gamecrazies. and at least 3 to 5 other places like this ..... It would be hard but if someone had major cash they could afford to lose short term then it could happen, but if your looking for a fast return less then 2 years forget it..
4.......Why don't one of you guys do it
I did do it From 1995 to 1998... This is why i was banned from mcvans for those years. I sold all the games out of my house and was told i was coming in there to spy to see what his prices weree... Though today they great me back with open arms ....
also your going to need to get major Word of mouth out and need around 25,000 to 50,000 bucks
the only reason mcvans is open today is it made Tons of money back from 1994 to 2003 and now can just ride with small deals since it has paid for its inventory 1000x over...
+ mostly idoits go to mcvans
last week saw someone SELL TO MCVANS
Pappon (or whatever its called ) the psp rpg type game 5 bucks and took it
Final fantasy Crisis core 15 bucks and took it
God of war 2 for psp 12 bucks and took it
10 older sort of junkie PS2 games for 6 bucks and took it .... Funny thing is i was told 30 mins later they sold 2 of those games for 22 bucks so they made 16 bucks + have 8 free games
also 90% of their incomes comes from TRADES very few buy and sell happen anymore
so anyone who wants to compete with them need a major inventory... This is why i had high hopes for the VIDEO STOP Game exchange but they hired PURE IDOITS who had no clue on how to run a store
they were buying games for 25 bucks that people could get off ebay for 2 to 3 that is why they went down so fast
personally i would love to open up another game shop but since we are now in the middle of the game life cycle it would be very risky
arbiter

I think it would be hard to compete with Gamestop. They just have too much buying power, they're always going to have business on new systems and releases, and they pay next to nothing for their used inventory.
I think you'd have to dig into a niche, like McVans has gone into the discontinued systems. I get the feeling they're living off of PS2, NES/SNES right now. I think if you can carry the classics and the slightly out of date systems like PS2 and Xbox, you'd have a shot. You'd have to either be cheaper than Gamestop on used games, or have higher trade in values. McVans has the disadvantage that their "dot" system is confusing and stupid. If I knew I could trade a game in for 1/2 of resale value, I might do it, but I'm not going to trade them to GS if I'm only going to get 1/4 to 1/8th of what they turn around and sell it for.
Probably doesn't hurt to have DVD Movies too...gets people in the doors. I think Disc Replay is getting business on video games because the parents come in for the DVD's. At Christmas they were stacked 10 deep at the checkout.
Talking about a niche, would you say then the older systems would not do the job... Would you HAVE to get the new games in the most... Where do you see the money in the new or the old...??? Then would you say Mcvans w/ a bit of Disc Reply or Disc Reply w/ a touch of Mcvans...???

I wonder how involved McGowan is these days. The other guy, the big dude with the dreads that was married to Shannon Norris, I think he got out of his side of the business. I'm pretty sure I saw him working at a Blockbuster a few years ago.

Don't see anything about this, so I'll get this out there for the Indy-area peoples...
There's a set of six Indy area Gamestops that have a 50% trade bonus coupon that is good until the end of August. Here are the locations:
1) Willow Lake West (2902 W 86th St, south side of the road)
2) College Park (3269 W 86th St, north side of the road)
3) Keystone Crossing Shops (3329 E 86th St.)
4) Castleton Square Mall (self-explanatory)
5) Southport Pavilion (SE side of intersection of Emerson and Southport - it's the "...and movies too" branch in front of Meijer)
6) Emerson Commons (NE side of intersection of Emerson and Southport - across the street from Target, right by Quizno's and Pizza Hut)
Just a bit abusable, considering that with this coupon + edge, Brawl currently trades in for $56... it should be a fun trading summer in Indy. Especially if you can find lenient employees who won't make you turn in the coupon and/or you live on the north side. Other rules: limited to five games, does not stack with any other promotions (except Edge, of course).
The same coupon flyer has one for 10% off a new game and +$30 on "any game system but GBA/SP/Micro and Gamecube" trade-in as well, but those aren't exactly the stars of the show.
Good luck!

Both stores on Emerson and Southport had a box full of them that they were handing out to customers. I'd wager all you have to do is ask for one, if they don't offer you one out of the gate.
Cool, I was going to go to one of the Emerson stores and use the $30 coupon and trade in my Xbox.

I'm on Verizon FIOS. I'm not sure if they've run it out into your area yet, but it rocks. It's helluva fast, and they don't seem to be screwing with our traffic like Comcast. I used to use their DSL and it was great if you didn't want cable.

Anyone know of any deals or anything?I go Verizon, even though it's just DSL. Very few disconnections and I've always been happy with them. However, part of that has to do with my Dad worked at Verizon for years (one of the management), retired because of a big package, and now works there again. My Mom worked there for a short time and my sister works at a Verizon Wireless in Carmel, IN.

I used to use their DSL and it was great if you didn't want cable.Yeah, I have FiOS and love it. My Dad is part of the FiOS project right now, and it's ONLY in Fort Wayne right now (as far as the Midwest is concerned). The next city which is most likely to get it next is Lafayette/West Lafayette, according to him. He said it will be a while until FiOS expands, because they gotta lay the fiber line around a city.

I kind of wanted to mention, I finally did graduate from Purdue this Spring, so I'm back home in Fort Wayne right now. Just kind of waiting for my Bachelors degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering Technology to arrive at home (got the Diploma yesterday). Took me a year longer than expected due to Senior Project problems, but I'm finally done. Still got a GPA above 3.5, although that's disappointing to me (since I tried to get a 4.0, but never made it). I had to go to graduation yesterday. Sucked because I had to be there at 8:30am, so my family had to leave Fort Wayne at 6am. :-( I'm about to job search soon. My goal is to stay in the state of Indiana (I'll probably end up in Indy, since Fort Wayne doesn't have a lot). Although, my favorite Professor is trying to convince me to go to Grad School, but I'm kind of sick of school after going for 20 or more years in a row, and I want more money (instead of losing it). But since I'm not really sure where I'll end up, it may be a good option, but it's probably better for me to gain more work experience.
So anyway, I'll be more active in Fort Wayne looking for deals.
Oh yeah, just wanted to share a short experience which probably happened to a few while living in Indy. When I went to Circuit City there on Friday, there were a ton of open spaces up closer, but a Rolls Royce parks right next to me. I was taking a look (first time I ever saw one in person), and was amazed seeing the car doors open the opposite way. Then, when investigating the price of the car, my jaw dropped. Those must be the same people who could easily spend over $5000 in Sak's Fifth Avenue.

They give you 50% of whatever they sell the items for so if they sell an Item for 50 bucks they will give you 25 for it.
I might swing by thursday or saturday (with gas being 4 bucks now its not worth running out there tonight )
they said since they just opened up their selection is very small they said this is their 3rd store and they mostly been doing business in OHIO
STill like to know why another store hasnt ripped off the Mcvans DOT system.
so if you have a 20 buck game and want another 20 buck game you will have to give them YOUR GAME + 10 bucks
Compair to mcvans
Give them your game + 6 bucks.....
Top level game could be harder to swallow there though
MCVANS Your game + 9 bucks

I dropped by that store while running around this afternoon. It looked okay, though I didn't examine trade policies since I rarely trade anything. I also dropped by atomic hobbies and games. They're getting some more games. I saw some master system, sega CD, and saturn games which I don't see often.
I went to Sears as well. They moved the games around to against the wall. They did have a bin of games and other items. There was a sign that said pink tagged items were 50% off. I got .hack // G.U. Vol. 3 for $12 after 50% off. I also got Burnout Revenge PH for around $2.50 after 50% off. They only had one other of the .hack games, but several of the Burnout. They had another bin of games, but I don't think they were 50% off.
So what is anyones thought about VIDEO GAME TRADER... I really do not think they will last unless the change it up a lot... But then again I have only been to stores in the Fort Wayne area for the most part... VERDICT...???

Sorry, it was behind the counter so I didn't get a great look at the titles.
I know there was at least one stack about a foot and a half tall that was all original PS1 games in the long black boxes before they switched to jewel cases.
In the picture the first stack on the left is all Dreamcast, next to it is Saturn, and then everything in the back is PS1 to the end of the bench.

You should maybe put up a list of what you got. Someone on the thread might be interested in something. I would be tempted by saturn games or the Turbo. The turbo is one of the few systems I don't have. I should probably save my money for my MGS4 LE pre-order (my first PS3 game).

Btw, did anyone notice the GS in the Glenbrook Mall moved? I was walking around the mall yesterday, and noticed GS was right across from Finish Line. It's a much bigger store and isn't tiny like the previous one.

i though their prices were high,. i stopped in around the 21th of may.
30 bucks for a used pokemon peral was high. Their Ds prices are very very high. 20 to 30 for cart only.

I'll have to check that new store out next time in up there, I love going to new stores any buying rare stuff before they know it's rare.... I wonder where they got their inventory. I knokow i was at a garage sale in Geneva afew weeks ago and some lady sold me some 2 totes full of gaming stuff and tld me her son was starting a store in Ft Wayne with a friend and that he had tons of other totes in the house and she would give him a call and see what he wanted for them.....maybe i got some of thier inventory....lol. the totes I got were full of systems, AC adapters, games....not at all what you'd expect from your normal gamer...
Why is it that people think that just because a game is popular means it's rare, they ahve Tetris and Dr. Mario ect... on their rare wall...lol. I have like 10 copies of tetris....
And what kind of retards put huge price stickers on the lables of games? that's just retarded.

It's the same people that put rare in the title of all their listings on ebay. Believe it or not, it actually drives sales. Perceived value and rarity play into any purchase.
We know better. The kid spending his allowance money doesn't. The crackhead looking for a game to play between hits doesn't

K-Mart in Greenwood is pretty much cleaned out. Haven't checked the Target or Meijer in a couple weeks though.
I did find a crappy mom and pop shop on U.S. 31 (just south of the Greenwood Park Mall). They have games for every system but all it's all sports. Nothing for the 360 or PS3 either. Their rare case has X-Men vs Street Fighter (PS1) for $20 and a copy of Harry Potter on HD-DVD.

I haven't been to Kmart in awhile, but it was cleaned out the last time I went there. I dropped by Sears, TRU, and both Targets on Monday, but didn't see anything interesting. It seems like its been awhile since there's been a good sale over at TRU.

The Target on 135 is pretty good, we hit it every week - but we cruise it for non-gaming stuff too, so our satisfaction may be higher. What's the mom-and-pop shop you speak of? I can't think of anything like that just south of the mall at all.

Head south on 31. Just past the car dealership on the right is a small shopping center. There's an auto repair shop and a Subway.

Yeah, that place (Video Game Xchange) has moved twice in three years now. It used to be on County Line, in the same complex as Thai Spice, in front of the Office Max / Credit Union Service Center strip, and then it moved to VH-One Video, in the same complex as Half-Price.
It used to be pretty cool, before it got bought out by VH-One video. I picked up a Ghaleon punching puppet from the PS1 Lunar 1 release there, and they used to have all kinds of good stuff on Genesis and SNES.
I gave up on them a year or so ago when they had a crappy Dreamcast puzzle game that eBayed for $2-$3 sitting on their shelf for $15.
FYI Lev's Pawn Shop on Wells St just put out over 150 nes games... Fair prices I would like to think if you come to check them out please feel free to give some pointers... Oh yea and the new Zelda for Game cube used $30....

would'nt typically matter. I had a DS that was 1.5-2 years old with a broken hinge. Didn't have the receipt around when I called. They asked for the serial number which they said could tell them the manufacture date and a good guess at the sold time . They said close enough and to send it in.
Bigger thing would be to find out when it was manufactured so you could have a better guess on how much time you have left.

I just found a much better second hand game/video place on the southside. It's next to the Wal-Mart on U.S. 31. They had a pretty good selection of games from the Atari to 360/PS3/Wii. They even had a used copy of National Treasure 2 on Blu-Ray for $17. The bonus is that there's a Gamestop and a comic shop right next to it. Oh, and Hooters is in the same complex. Nothing like gutted games at Gamestop and overpriced overcooked wings at Hooters......mmmmmm.
