Went to EB Games in uptown, Minneapolis on Lake, just to blow off time until my girlfriend got home. WOw, came out with 1019 GCN mem card for $15, not bad. I was hoping for the 9.99 sale, but it's probably over. And...drum roll please..............more drum rolls....!!!!
I found GCN Component mint for $4.99!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The HDTV cord for GCN is not sold MSRP so it wasn't in the system. WHen it was traded in, someone probably just tagged it with "N64/Gamecube A/V cord" which is in the system at $4.99.
One more thing to report: ok, ROseville gamestop has a used xbox360 sitting in the back shelves already (so it starts already? THis has got to be a record for fastest system ever traded in). It was listed as $279.99 so it's the wired set. If someone wanted to trade it in that bad, they must've been in a hurry. And if they were in a hurry, most likely, they probably wanted cash instead of tradein credit. That means that they probably walked off with less than $150. If they had walked up to any dude on the street, they would've made at least $250 back. Stupid, that's all I can say. Stupid. Damn, if I had been in the store at the time it was traded in, I would've said "Go back and stay in your car, I'm going to the bank and I'll bring you back $25 more than what gamestop is offering you" heheheh...yeah, if 360 was "GOOD" that is

Fastest record for a system getting traded in? The thing's been out for nearly 5 months. I've seen PSPs and DSs preplayed a lot sooner than 4-5 months after release.
Your really proud of that component cable huh? You posted an entire thread about it and then posted it in here. Maybe if you found a mint sealed Suikoden 2 or Panzer Dragoon Saga for cheap but come on its a component cable that could very easily go back into production for the Revolution and then be worth that $5 that you paid for it again.

Talk all you want about how finding component cables is nothing compared to finding Suikoden 2 sealed or Panzer Dragoon Saga sealed, I care nothing of those two games and I wouldn't pay more than $20 for either pieces of you-know-what. I think people like you are just jealous because I found it for cheaper than 2 happy meals. You and everyone else who's been talking smack wishes you could find one for this cheap. I oughtta take this cord and beat you with it because I already have a main cord.

If anyone is really looking for these games to play and not just keep around for trade fodder, EB Games in Maplewood, MN has Wild Arms and Wild Arms 2 both complete and mint. But with the remake and other RPGs out now, I doubt anyone would spend money on these. FYI, wild arms is $12.99, part 2 is 9.99.

Toyriffic in Maplewood and Hudson have some complete N64 games, but I'm not sure which titles, so you may want to call ahead first to inquire about availability and prices. Yes, this is a shameless plug for the store I work for.
Also, I've become manager of the Eau Claire store now! I busted the old one for stealing money on several occasions. Boo on him.

Rather, I discovered that he was stealing money from the store quite often. Only recently did I catch it, however.
As for fixing prices, I wish I had the ability. I'd love to, but that'd require an act of God.
Oh, there is some good news, though! Each of our stores will be having a half-off sale sometime in May, though management may pull some of the super-rare stuff. I'll let you know once we have solid dates.

Well, its a little cheaper than best buy now but still more than or equal to Target. ITs great if your looking for a hard to find DVD because they still had quite a bit of inventory at this point. Here's an example I looked at though as far as prices go:

I'm mostly interested in anime, import movies, and TV shows. An anime DVD at Suncoast usually runs about $30, so it'd still end up being around $25 after tax, which is around what it'd cost elsewhere. I know their TV sets are WAY overpriced...at least any I've ever looked at.

Any of my MN CAGers happen to know someone in the Mankato-esque area who does Xbox repairs for Dirty Disk Errors and the like? My Xbox has become unplayable, but I'd rather try and fix it than get another system and not be able to transfer all the stuff on my hard drive.
I know I could send it in to Microsoft, but A.) They don't make any claims that your hard drive will survive, and B.) This thomson drive problem is their dirty bastard child in the first place, so it'll be a cold day in hell before I throw more money at them to fix it.

For those in the Minneapolis area, the Toyriffic stores in Hudson and Maplewood will be having their semi-annual sales in the upcoming weeks. Hudson's sale is scheduled for 5-8pm on Saturday, May 13th, and Maplewood's will be a week later, from 5-8pm, on Saturday, May 20th.
-50% off pre-owned video games, VHS movies, music CDs, and toys
-30% off all video game accessories (new and used), all DVDs and DVD box sets (new and used), and Maplewood's "rare" case of games
It's my understanding that a few of the more rare games (mostly RPGs) will be pulled from the sale, or marked at 30% off instead of 50%, but this is a pretty good deal for most of the stuff (unless it's priced unreasonably high to begin with, of course - which happens from time to time).
Also, Toyriffic's Wisconsin locations will be holding their sales even sooner! Rice Lake's will be held next Friday, May 5th, from 6-9pm, and Eau Claire's is the following day, Saturday, May 6th, from 5-8pm.

I've lived in the Blaine/Coon Rapids area my whole life. It's sad seeing Northtown in the shape it's in. I used to ride my bike there in the early 80s and marvel at the selection of Commodore VIC 20 games at Radio Shack, the Atari 2600 games at KB, and the NES games at Woolworths. After checking out the games, I would head over to the arcade with my report card for some free tokens and stand in line to play a little Dragon's Lair.

The current-gen stuff is almost always priced slightly cheaper than other used stores, but the older stuff (NES, SNES, PSX) can be overpriced, depending on what it is. I don't understand your beef with the return policy, though.

All this week I was deciding what I would buy. Then I realized, that despite the fact that they're great deals, I still have games I haven't played from the Toys 'R Us deal from this winter. And beyond that I have still games left over from the Game Crazy "classic plastic" sale of last year untouched since I bought them. At the rate I'm going, not only will I never finish all the games I've bought, I might not even get them out of the plastic.
We should have a contest. How many "cheap" games do you now currently own that you bought because it was a deal you couldn't refuse, but still haven't played/finished?
Right now, I'm officially at 26. If I hadn't just sold a pile away, the number would be over 30. I was ready to add 2 more from this CC sale, but it's apparent now that I have a sickness.
So best me if you can, you Minnesota cheap-skates!

Awesome, thanks for the info. Do you know if they have games from a bunch of different platforms, or just current Gen? Local game stores like that can be great places to find rare games, and now that EB/GS is getting rid of anything before the 128 bit era, one of the only places this side of ebay to find ANY old games.

ha, this is SWEET! i didn't know so many cheap-ass gamers lived right here in MN.
if this hasn't been mentioned already, a place opened up very recently in the Arden Hills-Roseville area on Lexington Ave (across from the Target) called Sava Media. They sell used systems for about $10-$20 cheaper than GS and EB and their games are priced pretty good. i think i picked up soul calibur 2 there for like $8-$9. just to throw it out for those who live close to that.

My boss informed me today that the Hudson Toyriffic store will be putting their DS Lites on sale tomorrow (technically today, Wednesday), and Maplewood should have them in stock on Thursday. The catch? $149.99 each. But if you need 'em early, now you have the option.

i checked on ebay and rez is selling for about $40 (was it re-printed?). But if someones looking for a place in MN that has it so you can pick it up now, the Gamestop in Shakopee has a copy (complete too). And I'm not sure but I went to GS in Shakopee, Savage, Eden Prarie, and a EB at the EP Mall and from what I remember there were no PS1 games, but a GS in Brooklyn Park has hundreds of them. (Maybe they were all sent there?) Anyways hopes that helps someone, and I was just wondering if anyone knows were i can pick up a copy of two games called Poy Poy, and Incredible Crisis both for the PS1. Thanks

I just checked out the Target by Northtown yesterday in fact for clearance DS games. Not a single damn thing. There were some PSP games on clearance but the only title I remember is some older FIFA game. Hell there were hardly any DS games in their $19.99 selection as well. They did have a few DS Lites but the going trend is that everywhere pretty much has them in stock. Let's hope Nintendo does the same with the Wii as far as getting enough to stores to keep up with demand. :D
I also checked Wallyworld. Their $19.99 rack is a damn mess much like their $5.50 DVDs. Actually the DVD bin is worse as its in a mountain pile. Its not even worth digging through as just from the top of the pile all I ever see these days are floods of the same crap budget titles that have been there since Wally begain the bargain bin. 09-27-2006, 01:50 AM
I stick to the Roseville Gamestop. I go there once, maybe twice, a month to browse. I've only bought from them twice, one incident being a botched pre-order.
I guess the employees are okay, though they tend to be kind of merciless with the pre-order hassling. I've heard them get awful with people over the Halo 2 and Madden pre-orders, telling the customers obvious lies about how these titles will be sold out at release, etc. I've stopped in at other stores to piss around at the kiosks and rarely hear the employees BS people to get pre-orders the way those Roseville cats do. I guess they NEED that kickback.
Back to the point, seeing as how I don't stop in at the Maplewood Gamestop, I am 100% behind you on the boycott.

Hmmm...they could really get in trouble for that. Just because they are not on commission does not mean they can make a false claim like that. I was a straight-commissions appliance sales agent for Sears. Things you can say versus a legal version of what you can say when you are in the middle of a sales:
Illegal: We might run out of this one by the weekend.
Legal: People buy these a lot so we are not sure how long they will stay in stock.
Illegal: Regarding shooting games, this is the best game out there.
Legal: I think you would really enjoy this game.
Illegal: This title will be sold out on release day.
Legal: You might want to place a reservation for it to guarantee that you'll get it on release day.
It's actually grounds for a lawsuit because it is considered pushing sales illegally. They can also get in trouble from companies (with a good lawyer  ) if they are pinpointing and illegally pushing highly anticipated titles versus other titles.

09-27-2006, 03:11 PM
Well, I'm not too worked up about it. I just feel sorry for those customers who don't know any better. I suppose GameStop employees justify their coercion by assuming that the customer is going to buy the game anyway, and seeing as how the pre-order doesn't cost them any more, what does it hurt?
I'd just like to add that the Roseville is the most aggressive I've seen and is not the norm. I've been to lots of game stores in the Twin Cities area, and most employees are pretty casual about it. They'll mention it up by rote when they're ringing you up, but most don't pull the hard sell tactics.
While we're talking about customer service, I'd like to add that the people in the CompUSA in Roseville (next door to the Gamestop) are fantastic. An example from a month or so ago was when I went in a while ago looking for a copy of ESPN NFL 2K5 on the 25% off clearance price deal and had a devil of a time finding it. An employee asked me if there was anything in particular I was looking for while I was standing around, scanning through clearance, and when I mentioned the game he immediately walked over to a bin and pulled a copy for me right away. It's no biggie, but it's nice to see an employee who's even concerned about a lowly clearance bin scavenger.
I realize this has nothing to do with deals, but just spreading a little love around in case any game store employees are reading this thread. It's not all complaints.

Both have old school all the way to new and both don't breath down my neck about preorders. I can't stand gamestop because of that and that I feel like I just got raped when I bring things in. I bring most of my stuff to games 4 less because they are closest to me and they give me the most for what I bring in. Just my 2 cents

How's the B2G1 free going for everyone? Man, FF:CC and Champions of Norrath are just buzzing in my head. BUT MUST CONSERVE MONEY FOR BILLS! Not only that, but I have very mixed feelings about that FFCC. One hand, I've never played it. I was at the TRU in Burnsville today to pick up some B2G3rdFree games and found they had King of Fighters EX2: Howling Blood for GBA marked down to $7.98 (9.98 -2.00 red tag promo is what it said on the receipt.) It was still $29.99 not too long ago. They had 2 copies left as of Tuesday afternoon. I assume this is a big time YMMV considering the age of the game so that's why I posted it here in the regional section. (Also, I'm not sure there's much demand for this game either. I only found one listed on ebay for 29.99, and none on half.com.) So MN KOF fans, go get 'em.

How much do you guys think I can get in credit at Toyriffic for:
GCN
Megaman Anniversary
Ultimate Muscle
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2 Echoes
Starfox Assault
XBOX
Street Fighter Anniversary
Guilty Gear X2 #reload ($1? LOL)
King of Fighters 02/03
Most of these games are so low valued, there's no difference putting them on eBay or sending them off as trade fodder. You might even make less after eBay fees. But I think if I sell all of the GCN games together, I might make a few bucks. Street Fighter is valuable, but the demand for it is so low. On eBay new copies are priced for $15-20 and there are so many unpurchased.

It's very very easy for me this election compared to the past few. I (and many other people I know) are simply going with a "vote the bums out" stance. So then, EDIT: Michelle Bachmann Amy Klobuchar it is...? For me it will be. She is able to better serve the Hmong community, which I am a part of so that matters. Plus, she just seems nicer. I just hope she doesn't bring pro-choice baby killing crap to the office like many leg-crossers these days.
Oh yes, please make sure to vote "yes" for the Saint Paul school referendum if it applies to you. It'll give them a bigger budget to work with. Though I hate the majority of kids these days, wherein they look like sluts going to a club when in fact, they need to go to Engrish class, or try to emulate 40 cents in our childrens' schools, there are still some with hope left in them.
And I agree with you; all levels of gov't need a cleanup. If I'm guessing right, 2008, all hell's gonna break loose, especially if Obama runs irregardless as President or Vice-President.
By the way, I'm assuming you two previous posters are white-European. If I'm wrong, apologies. But why is it that white people do not like to disclose openly and say "I like THIS specific person!" or "I prefer this specific party" :p

Abortion = a politically correct term for baby killing
It's dangerous to bring that crap onto the teenagers because they become desensitized and think they are just getting rid of a shoulder or a knee cap. No. In reality, you are killing a baby. That's not women's right or freedom. That's being forced to not to know that you do not know. Civil rights are about choice. But when you no longer care about the consequences and ethics of that "choice", that exercise of freedom takes a toll on everyone. If she thinks she has been appointed to office by God, then let it be - that's her belief. I believe that I was able to graduate from college because God allowed that to happen. Are you going to bash me too?
How can I be anti-women when Klobuchar is my primary choice for Senator? I am also a very proud boyfriend that my gf makes more income than I ever will! That's not a threat to my manhood, people like you are a threat to my manhood! The rumours, that some EBstop managers are going to the airport to pick up the GoW packages aren't true...at least in our region. So I just went ahead and reserved one at the St. Paul GS. Regardless, everyone who wants one should get it by Wednesday night. But, as always, I'm calling on Tuesday afternoon pretending to be a clueless guy asking to see if it's in yet :p. Just called both of my GameStops, they both said the 8th around Noon. Thanks GameStop for slacking off and treating this like some normal release. They do the same-day release stuff for garbage like Madden and Final Fantasy every year.
I have it paid off already there, but I may try to find the game somewhere else that actually is going to put some effort into getting the game. I've been taking my lunch break VG strolls (play demos, browse) at the Midway GameStop (in St.P) just to try something different, and I'd like to note how friendly the guys are who work there. They're always willing to chat, they're very open about things, and they don't employ the hardsell tactics I've seen at other GSs.
I saw one of the guys there talk somebody out of buying a game (Catwoman), which seemed to me quite a humanitarian gesture and sold me on visiting the Midway GS more often.
The only thing I don't like about the place is that they won't fix their damn demos, which is 50% of the reason I burn an occasional lunch break on pissing around in VG stores. Though maybe they're "broke" to prevent loitering. I dunno.
Anyway, good people at the Midway GS. At least the ones I've run into. If you've got questions about pre-orders, supply, etc, they seem more knowledgeable than the avg. VG store employee (and more willing to discuss things).

I've never been to the Midway GS. I frequent the Eagan and West St. Paul stores since they're near my home and work. Apart from a copy of Dark Cloud 2 that wouldn't play, I've always had good experiences there.
I was at the Eagan GS during the most recent buy 2 get 1 sale. The guy who helped me went through five copies of Rachet and Clank UYA looking for the one in the best condition for me. I thought that was really thoughtfull.
I'm usually a little to grossed out by the demos to touch those controllers. Do they have Wii demos yet? I haven't been in one lately.

I'm making a list of Target/Walmart/Toys R Us/Best Buy stores near me with their expected inventory stock of the Wii, location, and phone numbers all around my area so I can drive around and make a lot of calls and know exactly where I'm going. Last time when the DS Lites were selling early it was messy so I want to make it easier.

A lot will depend on the weather but I think once school lets out on Thursday lines will start to form for the midnight sales at least. The 360 launch was pretty cold but I was in Brainerd at the time and managed to walk into a Walmart and pick one up.

If you didn't wait in a line, you didn't get a Wii. I didn't wait in a line--I just figured that people would forget about the non-Best Buy/Target places. So I'm waiting for now.
EDIT: If any CAGs know of restocks in any metro locations, please be a buddy and share the intel.

Yeah, I believe the same is true of Wal-marts. Every single Wal-mart I've been to hasn't even had display room set out for the Wii console yet. I asked one dude at the Maple Grove 24 hr walmart early this morning about the Wii, and he said that they weren't shelving anything until just before Friday.
Targets in the area sound like they're waiting on stock and may shelve it before Friday. I'm going at 10 to check a BBY, CC, and TRU, as the internets are alive with rumors of a phantom shipment for Tuesday. We'll see.
EDIT: From talking with a few friendly salespeople and one manager between BBY, CC, and TRU, I get the impression that BBY and TRU aren't shelving fuckall until Friday. There's a chance CC may shelve whatever gets delivered to them as soon as it gets there. These are all from the impressions of people who either 1) haven't seen a Wii since launch know about as much as we do or 2) pass unsold Wiis on their way to the break room knowing that they won't see the sales floor until Friday.

Sorry I didn't have time to post this until now, but two different Target employees told me that they heard that the Minneapolis Target (I'm assuming that means the one downtown) put a bunch of Wiis on the shelf yesterday. Just putting that out there for those of you who are Wiiless and don't feel like waiting until Friday.

Why do you need 3 Wii's exactly for?

Good question. I got my Wii a few days ago from an acquaintence in the area with this mindset. I guilted him into selling me the Wii for cost (I gave him my used copy of LEGO Star Wars II for the 360 game for incentive, so I guess it was a little over cost), so in the end he did the right thing--from my perspective at least.
It's funny to look at craigslist and see all the panic sells come in as Black Friday approaches. They were starting at 450 on Monday and now they're at 300. I offered a number of people 295 on Monday and about 50% of them have written me back, saying, "My buyer backed out, are you still interested in buying at that price?"
I still can't believe how many Wiis retailers moved on the launch day. Nintendo really had a lot of the media and a few big retailers (TRU in particular) on their side with the Wii.
I feel bad for those of you who are going to have to stand in line with the crazy moms tomorrow morning to get your Wii, but I'm confident that all of you will get one tomorrow, even if you don't stand in line. You may have to do some driving, but it seems like between BB, CC, TRU, and the EBGames/GameStops alone, there were a lot of Wiis being withheld from the shelf between Monday and Thursday. I doubt EB will have much of a crunch at their 7 AM open, and I am positive that they have decent stock at each store (well, two managers told me they did--they could have been right about their store only). In any case, good luck!

How's everyone's Wii hunt going? Though I landed mine, I've been keeping an eye out at a few retailers to maybe get a few as x-mas presents for people. I have yet to see a single console on a retailer's shelf.

left quite early this morning and scoped out 5 or 6 best buys for campers, wasn't willing to sit in cold ass weather for 3 hours so i wasted a bunch of time. Then I got to the brooklyn center bestbuy at about 8:45 and almost drove away since there was about 20 - 25 people there, then i said f' it i can sit here for a hour just in case. As i was walking up some of the people in the line were yelling some number at me. Turns out the first people in line there was like four familys of four and they were only getting 1 system per family.. 15 minutes later the manager guy walks out and I got a voucher baby!!
Drove by richfield BB at about 8 to 8:15 or so and it looked like there was at least 50 or 60 people in line.. People were at maple grove and northtown before 5 a.m.

I'm having terrible trouble finding a Wii. I'm in Hastings and as far as I can tell we have totally gotten shafted on Wii resupplies. The only place around that has had any since launch is Best Buy but because they held them till sunday morning it was impossible for me to get one there. Anybody seen any in the area?

Doh! Of all the days to not stop into target at lunch! By the time I got there they had sold through their entire stock, but the guy at the counter said that they were supposed to have held them till sunday so other targets in the area would have them then.

By the way, can anyone confirm any numbers of wiis that any stores will be getting tomorrow. Between CC, BB, TRU, Target and Walmart, I'm not sure where I'll try and find one. Any info would be much appreciated.

I got up about 6:00am Sunday and got in line at the Inver Grove BB about 6:30. I had driven past the store about 1:00am and there were already half a dozen people waiting, so I knew my chances weren't good. They had 18 systems. I was probably 28th or so in line.
I drove straight over to the Game Stop next door where there was no one in line, but they weren't opening until 10:00. As I was pulling away three more cars drove in behind me and a kid flagged me down. I told him he could be first in line if he wanted to wait three hours. He seemed like that was exactly what he was going to do, and he was pretty excited about it. Hopefully his mom let him stay.
Also, there are a lot of desperate parents out there. Really a lot of really desperate parents.
