Went to the Cottage Grove GameCrazy at lunch today to use some credit on the B2G1 free sale. Store was pretty bare and I was told everything left will be 30% off tomorrow because they are closing. He also said the only Hollywood Video that will be left in the Twin Cities will be Roseville. Obviously, I used up all my credit then and there. Anyone who still has credit/gift cards better use it now since it may be that there will be no place to spend it in a month or so.

I was referring to used games. I seldom buy a game new unless it is on clearance or Best Buy is giving them away. You are correct in that we are surely going to see some strategies by the game producers to "encourage" the purchase of new retail copies and make used copies less attractive.

It only makes sense that GS not discount new games. Considering their business model, they make more on used game sales. If they reduce new game prices the used ones would have to drop as well. To each their own but any gamer not taking advantage of various promos at GS is missing out on some of the good deals.

That's a bummer...when I was up in the Cities checking out several HWVs during that $5 games sale awhile, the store that seemed both the nicest-looking and most busy (I actually had to wait in a line when I was checking out) was the one on Lyndale. Granted, I didn't stop in the Rosedale one, so I don't know what that one's like. But was almost sorta rooting for this one to remain open.

So I wonder when the Store Location list is going to update to mention the rest of the stores closng?

The GameCrazy on Snelling was closed, but the HWV was not. My info says the only store left from the whole franchise (in our area) will be one Hollywood Video in Roseville. No GameCrazys at all. All other Hollywood Video stores closed. As mentioned in another post, one HWV store serving the entire Twin Cities.

EDIT: I was assuming the HWV was the same one the the GC was located in. I don't know of any others in that city.

Called the Blaine GameCrazy to see if they were open today so I could get a couple discs buffed, trying to get a last something out of my MVP. Actually had to call the attached Hollywood Video since there were no more Twin Cities stores listed in the online locator. I was informed that the GameCrazy's last day was April 2nd. Not a deal for all CAG's in the Twin Cities area but if your a Silver Reward Zone Member at Best Buy they are giving away free tickets to Silver Members to the LA Lakers game this Friday night. They are upper seat tickets and I got a confirmation email from them and I can pick up my tickets two hours before the game. Kinda kicking myself in the head because they gave away tickets to the Suns game and those where lower seat tickets. Oh you also get to see the Timberwolves lose as well. On that note looks like we are losing some Blockbusters in the Twin Cities. The Northtown BB is closing shop. If you want some cheap fairly new release DVDs they got a ton of em for $4.99. Not much for Blus to speak of. I managed to grab Knowing for $6.99 which I believe was a mismark. Tons of HD-DVDs for $1.99 but they are all in thin CD cases. The selection is mostly Nacho Libre, World Trade Center, Zodiac, and a few other titles. Not much for gaming left.

At Northtown, they were telling people when the last day would be to rent movies and when the sale started. Supposedly, the lease on the building at Northtown was up, so no point in renewing it.

According to my brother, the good blu ray's went fairly fast. His son found some hidden throughout the store, which they promptly purchased.

That always baffled me during the Circuit City closings... people were buying up blu-rays that were like 15% off their list price, they were still cheaper at even Best Buy down the road. My dad has always said, "You really need to know what you're buying at going out of business sales." He is absolutely right, people assume because they're trying to get rid of their inventories that things are cheap, not always the case at all.

Very true about the CC liquidation. It was crazy watching people go nuts over 10-15% off of stuff like it was the greatest sale ever. Yet all I could think in the back of my mind was... you know, we had better deals prior to going out of business. Not that I didn't get a few good deals towards the end of the liquidation myself. I knew better to wait and if there was anything good left when the better percentages came to be then I would be rewarded. If not then no biggie. Its too bad there's more than enough people out there that go into a liquidation expecting great deals at 15% off.

I'm not positive (only heard through a friend with the Fallout DLC disc) but they recently stopped allowing returning those types of discs. You could trade it back in I'm sure, but not return it. Again, I only heard this from a friend who was going to do it with the Fallout DLC - maybe a YMMV but maybe not...

I was somewhat interested in the deals they were offering (Metro and Bayonetta) and honestly, if they would have been offered by Target, Best Buy, even Walmart, I would have gone for it but it just wasn't worth the the hassle to go into a K-Mart. The last two times I was inside K-Marts were both miserable experiences.

Either myself or friends have gotten the Blur $10 deal to work at Northtown (on Sunday) and Inver Grove Heights (Tuesday) without a hitch. We didn't have luck at Blaine (Sunday), Eagan (Monday). Brookdale and Roseville were sold out of the Xbox 360 ones so I'm guessing it worked there. I also scored a Xbox Slim at Inver Grove Heights today!! :)

If you are refering to Tekken 6, it is clearance and YMMV. Your local Targets may or may not have copies and they may ring up a different percentage off original price. While all Targets usually follow the same clearance pattern, they don't do so at the same time.

A friend and I went to the Cabela's Dangerous Hunt 2011 trailer at the Robert Street WSP GameStop at lunch to check it out. We tried the 360 version in co-op (arcade mode). While it needed calibration, I was really impressed with the Top Shot Elite controller. The game was pretty cool as well. It had 33 levels of arcade type shooting. You could switch from rifle to shotgun (for birds and close) with a flick of the analog stick. Then they showed us the story mode which was like a survival horror game where the hunter becomes the hunted. I may be a sucker for a free t-shirt cool controllers, but it made me want to make the un-CAG-like purchase of new release at full retail and add to my already huge collection of plastic accessories.

Yeah, I caught one at the MOA BB. I think I'm in the supposed 10% of people who can't figure 3D tricks. It just looks blurry to me, I moved it anywhere from 6 to 18 inches from my face and dicked around with the slider in every configuration. Not feeling it, just gave me a hell of a headache.

If you were at a BB, you can pick them up and hold them. They're secured to the display with a magnetic holder, just give it a good tug and you can pick it up and hold it as you would a DS, the tether doesn't get in the way at all. Using that freedom and a lack of people waiting to try it out, I played around for 10-15 minutes. As hard as I tried, I couldn't find that sweet spot where the 3D really popped out at me, I just wound up feeling crosseyed and stupid.

I don't think I'm wired to appreciate 3D, I always sucked at the 3D sailboat-in-the-dots posters. The only one of those I ever "saw" in my life was a 3D bunny on the back of a box of Nesquik. It was one of the proudest days of my life.

I think just about everywhere has these now, even Targets, etc. I spent about 15 minutes with it and didn't like it. It looked blury at first but you could see the 3d. I was able to somewhat get used to it but it really hurt my eyes. It gave me a headache. I don't have any problems with 3d movies. I think I will be passing.

Not surprised. The Apple Valley Best Buy marked a bunch of games with stickers meaning 25% or 50% off, but nothing to really write home about; probably what they were actually supposed to do.

Ususally Target or other retailers POS system makes it so they cant sell you a street dated item. I know that MA and PA game stores like Toy Riffic usually break street date and sometimes even charge a premium for it.

There is a place in Lakeville called World of Games that sells a ton of older games on Amazon marketplace for pretty good prices. I haven't been to their store yet, but it might be worth checking out. It is downtown Lakeville off of Holyoak. Otherwise the only places that I know of are Games Central (Several locations) and Discland (in bloomington).

If you find any others- please share :) I am always on the lookout for places that sell classic games.

Discland is good for previous generations but I feel their current gen stuff is horribly priced now. Loved the store when it first opened. They had great prices and a fantastic staff but now neither their prices or staff impress me anymore. They do have a good selection though if you are looking for something.
