Here's a little reality check for you: not everybody has time (or wants to use and pay for the gas) to both check CAG daily to confirm a clearance the day it begins and take a special trip to TRU in 48 hours. If you'd said a few weeks, that'd be different.

WOOO. Just got back from User's Side with a HRAP3. On the driver over I was thinking I'd go for it if it was a lot less than $150, since that's what it would have come out to on PlayAsia (where they are also OOS as of this morning). The box was basically right in the middle of the shelf when I walked in, and my jaw about dropped when I saw the $99 sticker. There's one left if anyone's looking.

draculid, it was more of a gaming/electronics store than an arcade parts shop. I didn't see anything in the way of extra buttons. Of course, I didn't ask either, and they seemed to have a large storeroom in the back.

Very cool store even on top of finding the HRAP. Tons of import games (~$40 for DS games, not bad for imports) and just about every color of DS Lite/PSP/PS3 (no gunmetal). I should have asked if they had DS3s but it slipped my mind. Also it's the only place I've ever seen someone buying a Wii, but I assume it was a Japanese version.

Thanks for the heads up, bzchan. I definitely never would have found that place otherwise. :applause::bow:

We were planning to go watch the Stanford fireworks from one of the roofs on campus, but the show got canceled (?) so we went to a nearby hill where we could see a few of the shows out over the bay. There was also a barbecue and some Wii played. First time I've had a full group together to play the latest incarnations of Smash Bros. and Mario Kart. They can't release 4 yet, I still have to play Persona 3! I actually haven't touched the series since the first one on PS1, but I heard such good things about 3 that I went ahead and picked up FES.

I don't like that Square is re-remaking a FF game instead of making an original title, but FF4 is my favorite so I have to play it. CT I can probably pass on, though, especially since it looks like it will be a straight 2D port, unlike FF4.

I can't wait for SC4, though. :D It sounds crazy but I might be looking forward to that more than I was for GTA or MGS. Can't wait to try it with my new stick, too. I tested it a bit earlier with Tekken 5 and SC3 and it was fabulous. :joystick:

I can tell it's going to be fantastic. I keep working my way up the arcade stick hierarchy and this is the most solid one yet. I used to have an X-Arcade (I know) and while I can't perceive the lag input everyone says those suffer, one issue with it was that it wasn't heavy enough and could move around during fast motions. This one is basically glued to the table, plus the stick and buttons feel great. I'm looking forward to hours of SC4/Tekken/CvS3. (Some day!)

Glad i could help, oh and if you wanted a DS3 you should have just asked. They have a bunch and i mean a bunch in silver, white, and black for 59.99 its a little extra but since they so damn hard to find its worth it.

They will order you any japanese/asia video game stuff you want within reason, just expect to put money down if you want preorders and stuff. Get the sku and stuff take it to the store and awesomeness will happen.

If you dont find what your looking for there at userside theres a little shop in the same little shopping mall called Saitek or something and they have lots of DS games and Wii import stuff. As well they give you the awesome little goodies you'd normally get with the games if you were in japan. They dont carry too much accessories but they carry the games.

The Gunmetal PS3's were preordered and they had one on display but its gone. They have a lot of the import MGS4 special editions as well.

Hope your enjoying your new stick metaly you'll have to let me play with it one day :p

While I managed to get over the Star Wars characters (I actually think Vader is kind of cool), it disappoints me that unless Namco's been keeping secrets up until the very end, it looks like Hilde is the only addition to the permanent roster. She does sound really cool, but come on, one new character, Namco?

Just for fun I got the original SC for Xbox today, partly to sort of refresh my skills and also because I've never played it. It's still a lot of fun and I can see why it blew everyone away when it first came out. Sucks playing with the 360 controller, though. :-?

The fatality you speak of is that of a moronic kid who climbed two fences and was trying to jump up and grab a friend's feet who was on the ride. He got his noggin lopped off. As long as you're not already braindead like he was, I figure you'd be fine at a place like that ;)

The fatality you speak of is that of a moronic kid who climbed two fences and was trying to jump up and grab a friend's feet who was on the ride. He got his noggin lopped off. As long as you're not already braindead like he was, I figure you'd be fine at a place like that ;)

Wow, that is incredibly stupid. I hope I can resist.......................

Hey everyone!

Haven't posted in over 2 weeks due to moving to a new place.

Metaly: That import shop off of Saratoga is a nice place. I picked up a black and white Dual Shock 3 before the US ones came out. They cost me $54.99 and I figured that since the US price is near the same, why not get them early? Funny you guys mention that place since I work near there... visit if you ever have the urge to play poker or blackjack... ;)

Lots of good stuff coming out this summer/fall and I'll be pre-ordering a bunch. Still working on Dragon Quest VIII and hopefully will be done with it soon.

Oh Leafpanda, I didn't forget about you... I'll take a new picture of all my stuff soon. \\:D/

If you guys need any EA Hardcover books that recently pennied, just PM me.

Yep. I work over there. I don't deal cards at all but I actually work for the finance company within the casino. As Judy says, try RAMEN HALU. I heard they are really good. It's funny, I've been there for 7 years and I still haven't given the place a try. I probably will soon.

Veronica, funny you mention San Pablo Casino. Our company works there as well. Any of you 21 or older CAGers that need a job, Garden City always hire (they're under new management now) and it's not a bad job. Lemme know if you're interested. :-P

The stuff that was 80% were just only XBox games. I picked up what I basically missed out on. I still have a system (sealed up, never opened) that I won from a company function about 3 years ago. There's a nice set of games that went with it.

I also bought copies of Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution. Anyone that wants it, can still have it. I'm only asking $5 for basically shipping it out.

Hey you guys! Are any of you interested in receiving energy-saving lightbulbs, retractable clothelines, sink aerators and shiny showerheads for FREE?

I have a cousin that just hooked me up with all this stuff because PG&E pays him and his co-workers to install all this stuff at my house. There is absolutely no catch, and it's totally free for people living in the Bay (except San Francisco and Alameda, for some reason :'[ )!
They come to your house to install all these goodies, all in the name of helping out the community save their energy bills.
I'm usually against promoting an organization on teh interwebz, but with this program, you guys have absolutely nothing to lose... They're non-profit BTW. :)

If you're interested, lemme know and I'll give you all the info via PM. Trust me, it's all good. ;)

They're known for their thick and greasy ramen with really yummy pork slices. You can ask for less/more salt/fat; I always ask for less fat to decrease chances of a food coma during work :P

As for Mountain View, I'm actually not a fan of Ryowa, but my other favorite ramen place is Maru Ichi down the street. I wish I could go there more often, but Halu's a lot closer for me. But when I get the chance, I go to Maru Ichi and finish it off with some gelato from Gelato Classico.

Sat there for nearly half an hour; was literally collecting my stuff to walk out when it came back on. No compensation offered.I haven't been to the Metreon IMAX for years, but two times I went, there were technical issues, too. First time was watching Fantasia 2000 with my then-just-a-friend-but-now-fiance, and the movie stopped working in the middle. They herded everyone outside, and I remember we were both shivering out outside in the cold, thinking how incredibly awkward it was that there were all these couples around us cuddling to stay warm. They eventually fixed it, finished the film, and gave everyone comp tickets.

Next time I went there, using the comp tickets I got, we watched Lion King on the IMAX. The showing bit the dust like 3/4 through the film, and this showing never got fixed. I remember it ended where it looked like Scar had won, and I hoped all the kids watching had seen the movie already or else they'd be traumatized. We got comp tickets for this too.

I checked out one of the midnight showings of The Dark Knight at a local theater. It was PACKED, and I was hella tired all day at work today. (So was one of my coworkers who actually drove all the way from San Jose to SF to check out the midnight showing at the IMAX.) But it was definitely worth it.

Website can be viewed here: http://www.caextreme.com/

I went to this a few years ago and had a WONDERFUL time. Basically, this is open this Saturday and Sunday all day and for a fee, you can play EVERYTHING on the floor for FREE.

The highlight for me would be a playable Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (in High Definition!) (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9820)

Also for fans of pinball, there will be a TON of pinball games set on free play as well.

So CAX was pretty cool. Played Space Lords, some old vector classics, some really random old games I'd never even heard of, and talked to some guy who was distraught that they had moved the Donkey Kong II machine overnight and he couldn't find it. I also got the high score in Point Blank, wooo. It was pretty awesome seeing some of the ridiculous scores people had set in stuff like Asteroids and Battlezone, too. Just like the good old days...

I watched the SSF2THD machine for a while, but I don't know if it was because it was on a tiny arcade cabinet monitor or what, but it was pretty underwhelming. It'll probably be a big hit with tournament-level players because of all the balance changes they've made, but the new graphics just weren't doing it for me. Also, they changed Ryu's win quote? WTF?

My steal of the day. After I got a haircut, I went next door where they had BOTH Power Stone and Power Stone 2 for the Dreamcast. All together, this cost me $10.

What a day. Enjoy the pictures. I'll post more in my blog. :D

No problem Freaky. I went over to Circuit City and got the game and the $10 GC. When I looked at the receipt, the game was only $29.99! The $39.99 price came because of the $10 GC. I was thinking of returning the game (which i later did) and kept the GC. I later went to Best Buy and price matched (like you did) and got my game for $32.99. Not to mention I also grabbed a pennied guide of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. Did anyone by chance get a pennied guide of the Super Mario Galaxy Limited Edition from their Gamestop? Let me know. I'm actually sort of relieved, because I don't really want that huge metal case or any of the extras like the t-shirt. I am curious about the exclusive CAS content since I plan to be doing a lot of that, but I don't think whatever it is will be worth an extra $20.

Still, getting the game for $20 cheaper than the regular edition would have been nice. :)

I was considering getting the Assassin's Creed guide the other day since I'm playing that right now and I'm sure it has nice maps of all the flags. Then I found out that all you get for collecting them all is some achievement points. Not worth the effort, even with a map. [-(

Ok, imagine FFVII graphics, with good voice acting... That's basically FFIV DS.
I actually like it alot, and it stays true to the original story thus far. What I really like about it is how the bottom screen acts as a map for wherever you are, so you'll never get lost. Plus, if you complete a map in a dungeon you get something extra (like a 6-pack of potions ;) ).
The difficulty is a bit higher... I struggled through some of the earlier caves, and you will get hit with status effects very early on in this game (this for me is a welcome addition, since I find the original game a bit on the easy side. :) ).
If you have fond memories of this game, or even if you remotely like RPGs, then you should be able to enjoy the game. It's really good, and the story is a bit easier to follow, now that it has voice acting and all! ;)

62t
07-24-2008, 02:32 AM
yea FFIV DS is harder than the snes or gba version, which is a good thing. You might have to do a bit of grinding. The voice acting is surprising good, and the mini games are actually fun to play. Also if you played FFIII DS it uses the same engine, but it makes a lot of improvement such as using the bottom screen for information.

Dont waste your time theres really nothing to look at over at Winchester, and the Sunnyvale one is in even worse condition. Seems lots of flippers around here. And with the extra $10 per 2 at gamestop a lot of them made out like bandits. I havent been able to find anything that i've actually wanted from clearance for the past few weeks.

As for penny guides there are two collectors edition guides for super mario galaxy at the gamestop near the popeyes and safeway. Not to familure with the area but its on homestead. They are in the back with a huge stack of other guides ready to be thrown out.

On a side note people please stop going to Great America your screaming is causing me problems at work. I hate being on a floor above other buildings within screaming distance of that place. Its awesome to see the coasters working though, one day i'm gonna have to go inside that place.

Thanks for the tip, I was severly dissapointed with the collection at the sunnyvale TRU.

There are some good places around GA. If you go to where AMC 20 Mercado is, there are some restraunts there along with an in-n-out. If you venture off near Arques (fry's road) and lawrence, there is a St.John's bar and burger. They have daily specials, with half off on Saturdays. There's also an ok dim sum place near AMC Mercado as well. Hope this helps.

The Sunnyvale TRU has gone to hell since corporate merged it with babysrus (the more profitable of the two companies) video game section feels so small and pushed into a corner. Even the toy areas are lacking severly.

If anyone sees Indy Mighty Muggs at a TRU or other store let me know. The Cupertino target near my house always seems to get the f'ed up mighty muggs that have messed up boxes. Tiss aggravating

Thanks for the heads up on some places around there. I'm not fond of ihop and benigans so more choices is always better. Wish that damn peppermil was still open i loved that place as a kid in fresno. Yea University Chicken is good, especially since they have 50% off nights. It probbably wouldn't be wise to go there on a lunch break though since Great America is quite far from SCU. There's also a place called Rivermark which has a lot of food. Off the top of my head there is a: starbucks, jamba juice, fantasia coffe and tea, yan can cook, red robin, mcdonalds, safeway, baja fresh, and some other stuff in the complex. Is the Nickel City you're talking about down in South San Jose somewhere? I haven't been there in ages.

As for Power Stone 2, I scored a copy for my Dreamcast for $5 last week. I'll have time to play it...someday.

I didn't order the 360 version. I did order the PS3 one. Is it a decal then? I'm not really sure. I'm really cool with the manager so I'm hoping he can hook me up with both if he could. We'll see.

I used to go to the Nickel City off Camden in San Jose all the time. It kept getting more and more run down and ghetto every time I went, though. The last time I was there it seemed like half the stuff I wanted to play was broken. We had some good times there, though. My friends and I beat Time Crisis 3 co-op for probably a dollar each. :)

I'm so looking forward to getting SCIV today. Hate the fact that its been sitting in the back at gamestop this whole weekend. I COULD HAVE BEEN PLAYING IT.... what does a store have to loose from releasing a game early? They have it why not sell it, they already payed for it dangit.

I remember when gamestop would bend the rules for tuesday releases and sell them monday if they had them in. Now everyone's so anal. :(

And now for something different

Mighty Muggs, any of you collect them? I'm just starting but these loveable pieces of plastic art are awesome.

I got my SCIV PS3 copy at Gamecrazy today. I used some credit that I had and it only came to $1.64.

I visited another Gamecrazy and I got a Xbox360 Yoda faceplate for free. It was cracked however  but I can super glue it back to normal.

All in all, not a bad day. My friend also got back from the San Diego Comic-Con and hooked me up with a Little Big Planet bag full of goodies. Can't wait to peek what's inside.

Civickid, expect a PS3 friend request coming your way! That way I can one day challenge you with Raphael! 8-)

You're pretty good with Raphael, freaky. I just couldn't pick myself up off the floor during that last match. :cold:

I almost need to re-learn Xianghua because they completely changed her 3+B and 9+K... two of my favorite moves!

I wish I could play while this firmware update crawls along.

07-30-2008, 01:54 AM
Yeah, some of Raphael's moves changed as well... I wasn't expecting the change, to be honest. But I guess I've have to relearn his moves as well. It's been months since I've played any SoulCalibur so I'm a bit rusty... but we'll get better, right? ;)
Good game btw, metaly. Those were some really close matches. :)

Wh-wait...There's a firmware update?

Feel free to add me guys.

Once I get my TV and PS3 from Tracy to over here in Sunnyvale, then I can play my PS3 more.

Heck, I can play my PS3 and Wii more. Did any of you guys get that Blastworks deal from Best Buy yesterday? They were only selling it for $9.99! However, I think today, they re-adjusted the price to $19.99.

Palo Alto Fry's had about 3 Wiis in stock as of 6 PM. First time I've seen one in a store. Anyone here looking to get one?

And SC4 is excellent.

btw looks like Sunnyvale and Milpitas Golfland got Tekken 6. Seeing how the arcade game didnt get a US release it would be good idea to check it out

Dam I went to Golfland last Tuesday and it didn't have Tekken 6. Isn't it sort of weird how it has Waterslides and Mini golf?
So, what do you think of SF3 so far, becuase how I am going to get a 360 soon and I love SRPGs.

First of all it doesnt have horrible loading time like the other idea factory psp games. Graphic wise it is probably more like a ps2 game. To be fair it was out 2 years ago in Japan. Just finished the second battle so I cant common too much. The battle system is a bit like stella deus where you uses AP to move. It doesnt have the humor of a NISA RPG, but the story seems to be solid so far. For the price you could get 2 or 3 PS2 SRPG, but this game got so little hype I could see it being hard to find later on.

I see, but I hear SF3 and Operation Darkness were both crap, so what's the point of owning a crap game even if it is rare?

I am not sure where you heard Spectral Force 3 is crap. It is a solid SRPG with good replay value, and most of the complains are about the PS2ish graphics and Atlus charigng $60. It doesnt help that NISA is smart enough to sell Disgaea 3 for $50.

As for OD once you get the system you can download the demo and find out yourself.

Well, yeah I can't really say i am basing this off people's opinions and reviews which you can't trust all the time. Well 62t when you get further into the game tell me how it is.

Leafpanda: I notice you've been blasting through your RPG stuff. Good deal. I'm STILL working on Dragon Quest VIII and now, I've dabbled with a little bit of FFIV for the DS.

On a non-related RPG note, I went down to Gilroy today for a baby shower. After that, I checked out the outlets and nothing really major except for Fire Pro Wresting Returns for the PS2 for only $9.99.

I'm gonna get more games tomorrow to load up on my HD Loader. Man, Dragon Quest VIII is loading so fast...

Well I'm not actually finishing all these games most of them I haven't finished yet because I'm stuck or got bored, but P3 FES has the social links that give you a break and give you a choice whether or not if you want to dungeon crawl.

I think I saw that on Kotaku or somewhere. It sounds like it's just a massive screwup by whoever does Best Buy's signage.

Or it could be a stealth launch of an FF7 remake for the PS4!! Run for the hills! :whee:

PS4!? OMGWTFBBQsauce!!1!!11 :whee:

Run to the hills indeed! As a fan of Sony gaming, I would! :D
Do you know how disastrous that would be to Sony if they had a PS4 launch like that? It would be comparable to how the Sega Saturn launched back in the mid-90's.

metaly
08-05-2008, 03:36 AM
You know, I was never a huge Sega fan (never owned a Sega console, actually), and it's stuff like the Saturn and its launch didn't do much to inspire confidence. I was really close to getting a Dreamcast a couple times (SF3! :D), but I just had the feeling it would die an early death. And what do you know...

With that said, I still hogged the Panzer Dragoon demo machine every time I went to Toys R Us. :) I really wish the unlockable Saturn version in Panzer Dragoon Orta worked on the 360.

Also did I say PS4? I meant PS5. :-$

freakyzeeky
08-05-2008, 03:44 AM
I never owned a Sega console either, but only because all those 'add-ons' made everything confusing for me... I didn't even know what a 32X/Sega CD was at the time (I thought they were new systems, that I didn't know about)!
And it's funny, I almost bought a Dreamcast as well... I wanted to play SoulCalibur (OMG look at those graffix! ROFLcakes!) at the time, and was saving my money to buy the system... but then Sony announced the PS2, and decided right then and there I wanted that instead. ;)

metaly
08-05-2008, 04:32 AM
I don't blame you. :) The PS2 was so awesome when it was first announced. It just oozed style... the sleek, black tower of a console, that futuristic logo, the minimalist packaging... and BLUE CDs! (Which lasted for like 6 months before everything went DVD.) It was the coolest game console I had ever seen.

I wish Sony had managed to capture even a fraction of the PS2's coolness when they announced the PS3. Instead we got a huge George Foreman grill, Spider-Man fonts and that disaster of a press conference. But at least it's come a long way as a console since then. I'm definitely enjoying it, though not quite at PS2 levels yet. :)
