Ouch, that really is too bad. It seems like they took everything that was fun about the Rush games, ripped it out, made a street racing game, and plopped the Rush name on it hoping to spur sales. That is very dissappointing, guess it's good I decided not to preorder for the free Midway Arcade Treasures 3 deal. I'll just have to pick up MAT3 sometime to play Rush 2049. Any thoughts from people who picked up the game?
edit: Silly me didn't include links to the reviews:
Gamespot score of 6.3 (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/driving/larush/review.html)
IGN score of 5.8 (http://xbox.ign.com/articles/658/658305p1.html)

I played it. It's.. pretty bad. The only thing it makes me want to do is play Burnout: Revenge. I tried "Cruise" mode which is normally free roam on other games, but apparently not on LA Rush.. if you hit one thing, game over. Literally. I then found "cruise" mode.. it's fun to drive around and smash into things. I crashed 3 times before it gave me a cinematic crash, then restored the health of my car.. very similar to the older Drivers, just drive around and the cops will chase you and whatnot. Nothing to write home about, though, definately not worth the $50. It'll be a pretty nice buy at $19.99 or less, if just for the XBox Live play.

Do you mean for the dowloadable content? Because according to the gamespot review, there is no head to head Xbox live play.

Damn... well I guess Midway had to fuck up eventually, I'm glad it was with this game and not Blitz: The League (that we know of, anyways).

No head to head XBox Live play? What the fuck! No custom soundtracks either.
Screw that, $4.99 or bust.

haha, why do people base thier buying views from other people opinions? I really do not understand yall, who cares if the game got a bad rating, play it yourself and see how it is.
I plan on buying it soon, add it to my complete rush collection and i am positive the game is good. I read reviews only to get a understanding on the features, thats it. But i could care less about other people views on a game, because thats thier opinion, i have my own.

The Rush series was really getting better as sequels progressed. Rush 2049 was one of my all time favorite games! When I saw which direction L.A. was headed though, my anticipation for it dropped off the radar. With these scores, I now have no reason to make the purchase. It's sad how fast series can go down the drain when not handled properly.

It's less about the score to me, and more about the general discription of gameplay. What I liked about Rush, the crazy cars, unique track design, insane shortcuts, and fun multiplayer: none of which is present in LA Rush. What Rush has become is a race sub-genre which has no appeal to me, underground street racing.

Because not everyone can rent game reguarly, whether because of cash worries or video store locations. Demos aren't always available either, and $50 is a lot of money. In that case, there's only one other place to look, and that's reviews.
The general media is usually consistent to. Look at God of War... almost unanimous acorss the board as a success. If a game is bad, hey, it's bad. The critics will reflect that in the scores (which should be dropped from every site and magazine forever) and the text.

You can't seriously tell me that anyone is surprised that this game is a piece of shit? For christ's sake, it has fucking MTV personalities in it. Nothing says suck like MTV.

Well who spends 50 dollars on game, just do what i do and wait a few months or a couple years and then buy it. Its plenty of other xbox games in the budget section if yall havent notice by now. Great xbox titles that the world is missing out on, and they only cost 2.99 or 5.99.

... Just a quick search on any game retail site would have revealed Midway Arcade Treasures 3 is already out on Xbox.

It does have custom soundtracks, no head to head. I played it and they really screwed it up. The cars handle pretty smoothly the graphics are not what they should be expected now a days. The problem I found with the game is that you cannot have a smooth race, no matter what you crash with, you get a "cinematic" crash, which kills the fast mood of the game. You go fast *crash*, go fast *crash*, go fast *crash*...etc. That was very disappointing to me. Also, I could not find any shortcuts, I heard that this game would have multiple shortcuts and I have yet to find them. It ok but get MAT3 instead for Rush 2049 or Rush The Rock.

WOW, thanks alot on that one. I can finally play arcade perfect games, not that the dreamcast already done that with rush and hydro thunder which is good too. But damn, this is like a dream.
Any information on a midway arcade treasure with the mortal kombat games on xbox?
EDIT, N/M DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN, MAT 2 got mk 2 and 3. Daaaaaaaamn. I will buy both next weekend for sure. :applause:

What I don't get is many of these american companies using crappy CG in thier games when the real time rendering looks about the same (Jade Empire/MK shaolin monks). Man is that CG crappy, Hallife 2 even looks better 0_o...........
But yeah Midway is pretty ghetto.

I have a whole stack of Midway games that disagrees with that statement.

What's really odd is how they cram the game full of all this bling-bling "Pimp My Ride" nonsense and then use a Skinny Puppy song in the commercial.:-s
But I'm with a lot of the people here. The game dropped off my radar when I heard they were ditching the classic gameplay in favor of following the whole street-racing trend.
Oh and U2K Tha Greate$t, just so you know, MAT3 actually uses the Dreamcast versions for San Fransisco Rush and Hydro Thunder. So you actually get way more than what the arcade version would have offered. Trust me if you didn't have Rush on DC before, you are in for a treat. Not only does it look better than arcade but the bonus modes are incredible. My friends and I would play stunt mode more than the main part of the game.

Too bad about those low scores. The Rush games were one of the few racing games I enjoyed.

I snuck into this years E3 and encountered the producer of this game. I told him I was a huge fan of the series and that San Francisco Rush 2049 was my favorite game of the bunch.
His response. "I'm sure the 5,000 other people who bought that game would agree with you."
When I first saw LA Rush, it didn't look promising.

It's a good thing everybody gets all the games for free, that way nobody has to read the reviews to figure out which games to get, and everybody can just play everything.

Or better yet if you like playing random crap use gamefly and just flip the games back when you're sick of them after 10 seconds. Or get OPM for the demo discs.
I didn't think a Marvel fighting game could be so bad until I played the Marvel Nemesis demo. I played for a total of 30 seconds before I said fuck EA they are fucking pieces of garbage. Then I played the Burnout Revenge demo and I loved them again. It's 3:40AM here I'm tired.
This game apparently sucks so I agree with everybody else.

It was a decently fun racer, so I'd pick it up at $5 as long as I beat GT4, Burnout 3, Burnout Revenge, F-Zero GX, PGR 2, RRV, Sega GT 2002, and Test Drive EoD beforehand. :)

Game rush killed my preorder too (i wanted to get mat 3)
Instead, they gave me mat 2 for xbox (I already have it on gamecube) and said that they didn't have any mat 3's. I can't even trade in the mat 2 at gamerush (has "not for resale" on the case, disc, and instructions) so I"ll probably take it to eb on some random trade in deal.
