So,

Did someone clean out all the Targets of the Tony Hawk's Skateboard bundles, or did Target actually "send them back" as they claimed?

I swear, one day I go in there and they're still sitting in piles with the $44.98 price tags on them. Just a couple of days later I read here on CAG that the price has FINALLY dropped to the ~$23 price point and when I go into the stores, they're ALL gone. None of the Targets really seemed to know what actually happened to them, but they all said something about "sometimes we send them back".

Just curious if you guys knew anything...

I think they actually donated them to goodwill. I've read in other threads where CAGer were finding them at their local goodwill shops for sale. If I can find the thread I'll link it. Seems that goodwill even has an ebay style auction website where they sell video game related items.

EDIT: Here's the link to the site: http://www.shopgoodwill.com/listings/listByCat.asp?catID=33
Just do a search for "Tony Hawk" and you'll come up with a bunch of them.

Wow. Nice trade-in values. Heck, $7+ for older stuff. Getting $10 in credit for Getting Up is almost criminal...

I posted this in the Target thread but since it's relevant to Kansas City area CAGers:

I bought Viewtiful Joe Double Trouble and Gunpey for the DS for $5 each at Target. The store off of Chouteau trafficway in the northland had a copy of each on the shelves. I grabbed them, took them to the pharmacy (had to get a prescription for the wife), and they rang up $0.00. They asked me how much they were and I said "clearance for $4.98".

Might be worth a shot at your local Target. Seems like it's been hit or miss depending on how cooperative the employees are.

The blockbuster on 87th and lackman has a table of games mared clearance 50% off. The prices were right, but the games were wrong. Lots of sports. Anyway, someone in the area might want to take a look. They had xbox, ps2 and psp games in the mix.

Made it to the OP CompUSA today. And, in the slowest moving clearance in history, things are still at 10-30%. Console games are 10%, PC games at 15%, and movies at 20%. Blech. A decent selection of games over there for when a drop hits but 10% off a $30 game just isn't that intriguing, especially when I can go across the street and use the gamer gift card for $5 off. Maybe if we get up to 30%, stuff like Clubhouse Games and Elite Beat Agents look a lot better at $20.

Speaking of the BB across the street, anyone hoping to reserve Pokemon and get a stylus, this is not the place to go. I got the last Pearl stylus when I preordered today and there were no Diamond styli (styluses?).

Was in Topeka at the mall yesterday and stepped into Sears to see if they had any clearance games. Well, not really- I only went by what was on the labels but pretty much everything was in the $15-$20 range

I checked CompUSA (Metcalf) today and the sale is still at the same 15% for console games.

Microcenter (also metcalf) is selling official 360 wireless controllers for $30 (reg $50) right now. They had this a while back as a one day only thing but it was in the ad I picked up and I verified it when I bought one. Take an ad with you (they are at the front of the store) to the register, it rang up right but the checker didn't believe it.

Finally, I was in St. Louis a couple days ago and the Slackers had a thick foam dance pad for PS2 for $30. It looked just like my $100 red octane one execpt it was another brand. Seems like a good buy for a CAG who likes DDR games.

Oh yeah... If you buy anything from them you might ask if they could at least kiss you before taking you from behind. They do usually have a very large variety of stuff but I think that's just because they can't sell it at their gouging rates. They make those payday loan stores look like a bargain in comparison.

Well, I'm down in Joplin, MO for the night- that's close to Kansas- only about 10 miles to the border, Kansas and Oklahoma. And I'm just kindof reminded that there aren't many deals to be had at the moment- not like quite a few times over the past year where there would be multiple good ongoing sales where you could clean up in an "out of the way" place like this.

Within a half mile radius of a mall in Joplin, there's a Best Buy (no Kingdom Hearts 2 for $20 or deals from the recent clearances), a Toys R Us (nothing going on right now- saw a $5 copy of Rub Rabbits and if that's your best deal...), a Sears in the mall (just a bunch of $15-$20 stuff that's a year or more old), a Hastings (well, they rarely have anything good and are more likely to have something insane like $40 used copies of Baten Kaitos or even funnier stuff like a $10 used copy of a game sitting next to a $50 used copy of the same game), and a Target (no games at all but some accessory junk at first clearance).

Sometimes, there's just no luck to be had.

Just a funny story here: I was in GameStop NEXT to OP Mall and they were complaining that 10 year old kids call them all day everyday to ask if they have any Wiis. While I was in there they got a phone call about it and a kid on a bike came in to ask about it. Funny enough, last time I was at the Lee's Summit Wall Mart I saw at least 12 on the shelf.

FYI, The CompUSA in OP is at 20%-40% now with games being 20%. They've compressed the store a bit as some of the areas are blocked off. Some decent stuff that has recently come out at 20% off if you want the $10 off it brings but nothing really exciting still. Maybe at 30% some of those older games start looking a bit more attractive but just not yet.

I was just at Target up on SM prkwy and they had the Viva Pinata for $20 deal. I only saw the old version (some call it the collectors edition, but it doesn't actually say that on the case) and not the new "regualr" version. There's a discussion about this deal elsewhere but it is YMMV so I thought I'd let you all know it's a green light at that store.

Was in Topeka and had an hour to kill waiting for a customer so I hit up the Wannamaker stores. Not much luck for clearance stuff but there's not really much organized clearance going on right now. Here's what I found, tho.

Target: I can never find the clearance games section at this store and that's looking all around the electronics and music section. I found a couple of PC games on clearance but there has to be more than that. They have one of those game endcaps but I didn't see any clearance there. A decent number of accessories across all systems orange stickered, tho. Also, not that this stuff is rare these days, but lots of wiimotes and classic controllers.

Toys R Us: Lots of clearance stuff in the 9.98 to 19.98 range, mostly licensed games and franchise- that sort of thing. Nothing great- only saw 1 thing under 9.95 and that was a $5 copy of Polarium. Don't miss the binders on the floor- they don't have enough room on the wall so they've started putting some of the pull tags in binders on the floor.

KMart: I'm just not sure what to look for these days here since clearances are so different from store to store. Nothing really jumped out at me but there were some yellow tags in the cases. Also, rather than having an easy to sift through bin, they had a new clearance case with games "$20 and under" but few were yellow tagged that I could see and most were the standard GH type stuff. FYI: If you wanted a Pokemon pre-order stylus, they had around 5 of each for pre-ordering and those are getting hard to find.

Best Buy: Well, BB never has decent clearances but they did have quite a few 9.99 and 14.99 games- not clearance stuff but not completely bad deals. This did get me my only find of the day- I snagged the last non-GH copy of Kingdom Hearts 2 there for $15 after the new universal clearance and a GGC coupon. I'm going to be down to just 2 coupons in a couple of weeks but I guess I don't get stuff from there very often, since I rarely get full priced games anyways.

Was at the CompUSA in OP yesterday- selection's getting pretty picked over but it's still only at 25%. Store's at 25-50% right now, officially. Of course, laptops and desktops are still only 10% despite "everything being 25-50"

I was there yesterday too. It said there were only 14 days left until closing, so they're going to have to start ramping up those clearance prices. Let's keep a close eye on this because at 30-50% off a few games might be worth it. I was curious to see how much they would sell their kiosks for, but they had already been sold to someone else.

sterlingice
04-22-2007, 03:57 PM
They had an Xbox display for $500 sans system :p

I picked up Clubhouse Games for the DS at 25% last week- I think those are the type of things to get, stuff not at full price that won't drop for a little bit, if you don't want to wait. Not much else I was really seeing that would be worth it CAG-wise until we're hitting something like 50% unless people want to get in on some Wii or X360 games below full price, as above. As a friend of mine said when we were there yesterday "Oh, I see how CompUSA gets this deep into its clearance without selling any games- they never marked them down to market price to begin with"

Comp USA has 8 days to go and the games are at 40% off but there's nothing worth buying as far as I'm concerned.

The better news is that the Bestbuy next to CompUSA has gamer gift cards in stock!!! I could hardly believe my eyes. I picked up a few and left the rest for you cags (I was tempted to just buy them all). They were on a register end cap thing. Enjoy.

Also, I went to two bestbuys today to use a gamepro $5 coupon that a friend sent me. I was going to pick up some M$ points with it but both stores were out of the $20 cards and wanted to sell me the 4000 point $50 cards. I think this may be on purpose to keep people from saving so much by using coupons. Just a theory though.

Kansas CAGs are fast! If you've been watching the main site, GameStop has lego SW ii (360) for $20/18 but most places have not changed the tags from $40 yet so I thought I could just walk in and pick one up. I went to 2 GSs and only found one used without a case. The guy at the second GS called around for me and another store even told him "we sold out yesterday". I did find a final copy at another store though, but you all are fast.

AT the store I did pick it up at the new price tag was already on it so that's not helping keep it on the self anymore.

Agreed. Things disappear in KC quickly. Very quickly. I always wondered if the Tony Hawk Skateboard bundles were really shipped back to the mfg, or if some Kansas CAG went through and cleaned them out the day they dropped to (what was it, $22?). One Sunday I went in and they were there, the following Tuesday I went in and they were all gone.

The main reason for this post - I was wondering if anybody knew if CompUSA lied to me. About 1.5 weeks before close they swore up and down that 40% was as low as the software - Microsoft Vista, etc specifically - would go (and hinted that no prices would go below what they were marked at that time). They said the company would rather ship to another store than take "that much" of a loss. They also said the liquidation was being handled through CompUSA rather than an actual liquidator. I had meant to go back in there to see if they had lied to me but I live 30 minutes away and had a ridiculously busy schedule the week leading up to their closing the doors for good (I hate being lied to more than I hate missing out on a deal) - now my morbid curiosity is getting the better of me.

So, did anybody get in there during the last couple of days, and did you get anything worthwhile? Did they ever lower the prices any further? Curious what I missed out on.

sterlingice

The OP CompUSA closed out on last Monday, I think. I went the Friday before and snagged an IGO wall charger for $4 but there really wasn't much to speak of in the store, even at 60-80% off. And you know how it is- if there's stuff which is that far marked off, you'll snag stuff even if you don't necessarily want it. PCs and laptops were still like 20% off, tho, so some of those hadn't moved yet. I saw that on Monday, they were supposed to drop prices throughout the day so if I could have gone, I would have loved to, but no such luck.

I ran by the CC on Quivira a couple of days ago and snagged copies of Disagaea 2 and DS Mech Assault for $17. I didn't see any more copies of those but they do have 2 or 3 whole bins of stuff out there.

Also, I'll third what people say about KC- lots of game hoarders, I think. And don't even get me started about Lawrence. Poor college kids + overabundance of time = tons of ebay hoarders. The worst are at Best Buy, where any time there's a sale, the employees say there are handfulls of people scouring the store with lists. When I was in college a couple of years ago, I was happy to have a couple of bucks to try and snag stuff a copy for personal use. Oh well.

FYI, the Vintage Stock in Independence is now open. I stopped by early yesterday during lunch.

There really weren't many deals to be found as far as classic games go, which I guess should be expected at a collector's oriented store. They did, however, have a few deals on some of the harder to find games for recent consoles. I bought Ikaruga (GCN) and Elite Beat Agents (NDS) for $16.99 and $14.99, respectively. The guy in front of me at checkout got the Digital Devil Saga (PS2) boxset for $24.99. They also had Wario Ware Touched (NDS) minus instruction manual for $14.99.

Wow,

That sounds so out of character for Vintage Stock I have a hard time believing it isn't YMMV. I think they are hands-down the worst game store in terms of finding myself a little "treasure" at a great price. So bad, in fact, that they are the one store I pass going into on a regular basis (including Target, Gameco, Gamestop, TRU, Best Buy, Game Rush, CC, and others I'm sure I'm forgetting) when looking for games. I would almost rather try to find a deal on Ebay than Vintage Stock. Maybe I should give them another look. It's been a while since I've been in there.

I agree, every Vintage Stock I've gone into has had ripoff prices on all of the video games I looked at. I checked out the one in Liberty once and that was enough for me. If this was Expensive Ass Gamers then Vintage Stock would be the #1 retailer recommended by the site.

I'm going to guess the good find was because it is a new store. They probably just stocked the shelves with boxes of old stock that was never put out anywhere else. I seem to remember that the new VSs in Springfield were good shopping for about a month before they settled back into the no good deal rut.

I think the problem is that they are too well known. There are always teenage kids who are willing to pay $7 for a half chewed vintage star wars toy hanging out in there.

The Gamestop on Wanamaker in Topeka is listed as having all sorts of old PSX stuff, including a lot of good stuff, in stock so I stopped by last Wednesday after getting tipped off by another CAG'er. Unfortunately, completely struck out.

I had never been there before so I can't say this for certain, but it looked like they hadn't had any old stuff there for quite a while. They had the typical "new" layout of a EB/GS where there's no vintage stuff but there's some movies sitting around. I asked the guys at the desk if they had any older stuff like PSX or N64 and they said no but that somewhere else in town did. So, unfortunately, this looks like somewhere where the inventory just wasn't kept up to date or they walked off with all the games or something

That's unlikely, tho, because they would have left about the typical billion copies of Madden behind. However, if you look at the computer, I picked a couple of random years of Madden and it shows no copies despite having, say, 4 copies of Lunar. Wonder if they guys there found a way around the clearance system to order a lot of good games for themselves, or something.

If anyone has a copy of Swap Magic they're willing to sell (for imported games silly), let me know. I could buy a copy online, but I'm too cheap/impatient to have it shipped out to me from wherever...

Hi, I'm new here in Cheap ass gamer and I was wondering if anyone know show good the game selections of Toys r us? Specifically the one near Great Mall in Olathe? I can't really check right now since, currently I'm in Jersey on vacation and won't be back home in about two weeks or so. I'm just wondering if they have games like Phoenix Wright, Hotel Dusk and etc. I was planning getting either these games or some others for their soon buy two get one free ds game deal.

Well, I'm going to be heading to Boise, ID next week and I'm trying to get a gameplan like I had when I went to Colorado Springs.

However, looking around, there's just not many deals going on right now, in terms of broad clearances. Any thoughts on even what to look for at all?

There are hardly ever any good deals around here. I suggest that you go to a Vintage Stock if you've never been to one before. You will find that everything is overpriced, but it's fun to look around at all the old toys/video games.

Video Library on 87th and I 35 is going out of business. Tons of stuff on sale. PS1, PS2, Xbox, Wii, 360, GBA N64 all on sale. PS2 and xbox are 2 for $25. 360 2 for $75. Wii games are $35. Prices aren't really that great, but for collectors it may be worth a look. All their movies and other stuff are on sale. Theres a ton of anime stuff too if you're into that sort of thing.

I saw that the video store was closing. I'm sad for it but I guess I only rented there a few times before I got a blockbuster online account. For the collectors: They have/had a copy of disney ddr. I'm pretty sure that would be the first thing to go once the sale started though.

I went to buy a wii this week and it was hard to find one. PM me if you want to know where I found it.

Checked out Video Library on Monday. All the game stuff is still overpriced for what they have left IMO. I'm assuming prices will continue to go down as they near closing, though--at which point a lot of the ps2, gba and xbox stuff they have will become worth it.
My haul:
Konami Krazy Racers GBA (w/ box and manual)
Contra EX GBA (w/ box and manual)
2 for $20......not a terrible deal i guess.

I was in Sedalia this weekend and they had a big SALE sign outside the GameXchange. Too bad the shop wasn't open while I was there. The Kmart behind it had VivaPinata facplates and silver faceplates for $2.50. They also had Tomb Raider Legend 360 for $20.

Thought I'd post something since we haven't had much activity lately. Now that I think about it, I haven't bought anything since Pokemon with the exception of the below.

We still haven't hit that giant period where all old systems are being cleared out of stores yet so there will be one final wave of clearance where we say goodbye to the Gamecube, PS2, and XBox but at the moment, it's been fairly quiet on the clearance front.

So, here's a little writeup I never made from my trip to Boise a month or so ago, part of a continuing series about CAG'ing on the road- there's no Boise thread near as I could tell so maybe someone up there will get some benefit from this :)

Three stops this time, one at a Gamecrazy, another at an EBGames and a third at a KMart. I also stopped at a mall they had there a couple of days later in my trip but didn't really have time to shop. They had a legit Software Etc there. These days, tho, it looks pretty much like any other EBGames or Gamestop.

Oh, and speaking of population density. People say Kansas is the middle of nowhere but I beg to differ. If you do an EBGames search centering on Lawrence and going 100 miles out, you end up with over 30 with something like 15 in KC but also places like St Joe, Topeka, Manhattan, Lawrence, and Harrisonville. Boise, ID and 100 surrounding miles: 4 stores, 3 of which are in the Boise MSA and another about an hour away in Oregon.

The Boise MSA is over 600K people- who knew? Basically, there's Boise. Then the second largest city in Idaho is Nampa- it's about 20 miles to the west. Then there's Meridian inbetween but it's more or less unbroken city- tho a lot of that inbetween area is residential. FYI, all 3 stores I went to were along a street called Cloverdale.

First, the Gamecrazy. After my amazing good luck in Colorado Springs, I was happy to see that there was a GC in Boise. Not only that but there aren't any nearby us. I was hoping they would have some Classic Plastic from their big sale and they did have a bin there but it was somewhat lacking for decent stuff. There was no PSX or Dreamcast and the guy behind the counter said that stuff was cleaned out pretty quickly after it went on sale. It was kindof odd to not even see a Madden or anything like that- it was completely wiped out. They did have some N64, SNES, NES, and Genesis but almost all were sports games. I don't know much about what games to look for on the Genesis but for the other systems, nothing I needed at all tho there were a few quality but overproduced games like Perfect Dark to be had.

Also, I went to a KMart. You know how those are the most random with no consistency from store to store but I'd have loved to have tried my luck. Naturally, like most KMarts, there was no one around to help and I think I milled around there for nearly half an hour. I really wish there had been- it looked like that place hadn't been touched in a year. I know one of the big obstacles people keep coming up against these days is that they have restickered a lot of things. I don't think these were ever originally stickered for clearance so there was no knowledge that they needed to be re-stickered. I saw a copy of Pokemon:Sapphire in there with the old $35 original price tag. I wonder if that would have rung up at $15 or $7 or just out of system. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to find out.

Lastly, I stopped at an EBGames. This was during the B2G1 used sale so I got 6 things between the PS2, GC, and XBox- all $10 or less. Just some hole fillers for my collection. Then I found a new clearance display and that's where I got a little giddy as I picked up the first three PC games I can think of for quite a while. They had the Warcraft 3 expansion which I had never gotten and both the Kings Quest and Space Quest collections, each for $10. I was pretty happy with all 3 of those.

There was one other thing of note there but I didn't really have money to go after. They had all sorts of used copies of somewhat rare stuff for the Gamecube- Mario Parties 4 thru 7, Resident Evil 2/3, and Mario Tennis. Sure, all were $30+ but with a discount card and B2G1, someone could have made a killing there. I almost jumped at the RE's as I've been wanting those for a while but even at a discount that's $50 for those 2 and another game.

I forgot to mention earlier but I also stopped at a Target. No games at all on clearance. Just a few electronics that no one wanted. Those are kindof sad stores.

So, in short, nothing really exciting except some of the rare stuff at the EB and I suppose the KMart could have been an untouched paradise but I'll never know.

Thanks for the heads up Sterlingice... I was in Overland Park today searching for copies of Lumines. I checked out the new Circuit City (I guess the old one moved into a new building across from Best Buy on Quivera) and Toys R Us. Circuit City had those clearance bins set-up but nothing really worth mentioning. The Toys r Us didn't have much either. They had several copies of Lumines II for $9.98, a great game for that price IMHO, but nothing else really to speak of.

Wait, the CC in OP moved? Is this to the center where Ultimate Electronics used to be?

UE is a perfect example of why I can't stand people who complain about retail having no customer service. They made their people go through something like 80 hours of training before ever hitting the floor. Then, if you went in there, they knew what they were talking about. Frankly, it was a bit higher end stuff than I ever shopped for but I went in there a couple of times to see what it was all about. People would go in there, spend 30 minutes talking an educated salesperson's ear off, and then give the fake "oh, I'll think about it" and then go across the street and buy some $1000 piece of electronics from BB for $20 cheaper.

Yep, they just moved the Circuit City yesterday according to the cashier that rung up my purchase. It moved just north of the old location to what I guess used to be the Ultimate Electronics building. It's on the west side of Quivira across the street from Best Buy. The new layout is very spacious. I thought it was a really nice set-up. I totally agree with you on UE. They built a brand new one close to Metro North Mall. I only went in there a couple times but I always had a great experience. The staff was very friendly and knew what they were talking about. Unfortunately the masses fall for the flashy Sunday ads for inferior products just to save $50 on a $2000 audio system. The store in the northland lasted a coupled years and was then shut down.

They're opening a brand new Circuit City in Liberty as well. I read in the paper this morning they're having some sort of grand opening on Thursday night at both the Overland Park and Liberty locations. It said there would be some prizes. I'm hoping for some good grand opening video game specials...

umcthomas
07-15-2007, 11:16 PM
Yes, CC is in the UE building. I looked at it today and it reminds me of the CC next to Mid Rivers Mall in St. Charles, MO.

I was sad that they didn't have any opening specials yet. I got a coupon in the mail that starts Thursday for a $10 giftcard if you spend $50.

Did anyone go to the Sony gaming display at CC on Metcalf? I thought it was at the new one and by the time I figured out I had the wrong CC I didn't feel like driving over to the other one.

The Sears Grand on 87th and 435 (KS) had a couple Wii's the other day but I didn't post it earlier because no one had asked.

Ironically, the best value I've found is RE4 for Wii at full price for only $30. It's the first RE game I played for more than a few minutes before deciding I didn't like it.

Since we've been having a drought of cheap games I've been catching up on my backlog. I've been going through a rash of trying to play through old games and selling them off so I can clean out my entertainment center. I suggest the rest of us do the same. Unfortunatly, my 360 broke for the second time so I have to mail that off to get fixed. As it's my DVD player too I am sad to have play dvds on the PS2.

If anyone has read this far, is there still a gameXchange down by strangline rd?

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence $16

Both CC's I went to this afternoon were out of the 1600 point cards. However, one didn't have Picross or Strikers in stock after 2pm, so I walked with a free $40 gift card.

In the KC metro, Oak Park Mall's new CC didn't have stock. The Metcalf and 119th location had plenty of stock sitting behind the service desk so people who asked for the games could be shown them instantly.

I was out shopping near Independence center this afternoon. I stopped in at the TRU off of 40 Highway and Noland Rd. I saw a crap load of the first Phoenix Wright games for the DS marked $9.98. Not a bad price for a great game. I checked the Circuit City and Sears out there as well. Nothing worth noting at either. The Sears in Independence Center has a clearance bin full of games out in the middle of the sales floor. It's sort of a cluster f**k since they just dumped games from all consoles in there randomly. It's sort of a pain to sift through.

I'd bet I have met you on a number of occasions. I don't guess you could post a list of games that are actually worth trading in at MC? I know there are always a few of them.

Otherwise, I agree with what you posted above. The trade-in prices for classic games are in the dime-quarter range (even the "rare" ones), and ironically the sell price then gets set higher than any other game store in town.

There are mostly Xbox games back there, a few 360 but they generally get pulled by employees if they are good. One thing I can say is that we generally get about 3-4 wii's a week so if your looking for one be sure to call or come in on Monday/Wed/Thur that is usualy our truck schedule.

The Sears Grand at 87th and 435 has a Xbox Harmony Remote for $80 (I only saw one left). That's a decent price for a great remote. It was on the endcap with all the bargin games that never sell. If anyone picks it up, post here so no one else goes looking for it.

Just got back from the FYE in Independence (Noland Rd & Hwy 40). The employee putting out games said that they're phasing out their games section and that all new games excluding Wii games are 30% off. Used games are still priced as marked. She also said that some of the older games may be cheaper than marked and to take them to the register to check.

I didn't really notice anything I found interesting, but I thought someone might find the info useful.

As of earlier today, the Walmart on SM prky had ONE hd-dvd add on for the 360 for $115. I assume that the receipt could be used for the free hd-dvds from buying the thing. I would have bought it if I thought I would EVER want it. But I must wait to see what new dvd standard Star Wars is released on to commit.

ADDED TO THIS POST: I forgot to mention that the GameStops in the KC area are not doing the 30% extra on 5 or more tradeins. I was told that they are running a different promotion where you get 20 free music downloads with every 3 trades. As I explained to the employee, the deal is awful. As I explained to my wife, the deal would be great if you downloaded music all the time at full price, but I don't download music at all (I can't get past wanting to own the CD.) I ended up getting the 20% extra tradein for Halo 3. I don't usually buy games when they come out, but between Halo 3 and Bioshock, I'm being spoiled.

At Target, people had been reporting Okami as clearanced. No luck in Topeka as it rang up for $40 there.

Most of it wasn't low quantity. I think I got the last Superman, but there was plenty of other stuff in stock. The Oak Park CC didn't have this deal.

Funny then, as Superman was the one I was most interested in. Although, I shouldn't be buying games anyway. I have made quite the effort this year to keep my backlog to a minimum. I'm currently fininshing bioshock and want to be finished before halo 3 comes out. However, I still have FFII, FFXII, VivaPinata, PerfectDark0, and TwilightPrincess to play. Not to mention all the LiveArcade games I still need to play and the Virtual Console games I haven't even bought to play yet. So...no new games for me.

Anyone ever know what happened with the Topeka Gamestop? It had been listing tons of old PSX RPGs and it looks like they're finally gone :(

(think "Mr Subliminal" from SNL in the 90s)
I went in there a couple of times to pry information out of them and they seemed to not know what I was talking about (liars) or maybe they really didn't know (idiots). So I'm sure someone (bastard employee) bought them all for his/her collection (ebay) rather than sharing the wealth with everyone for the betterment of gamer kind (rot in hell).

I just saw the Sears clearance thread, so I'm wanting to head that way, as well. There's several cheap games I'd like to pick up.

Yeah, I've got quite a backlog, myself. I just can't help it when I see good deals. There's a stack of PSP games I got recently that I haven't touched yet, plus all these new ones this week.

It's been a while since I've have some time to hit up the local stores like this but the last couple of days have been really slow at work so I've been able to take a lunch hour and do some looking around. Everything's on the Kansas side for this installment.

Again, typical disclaimers- I don't really look at stuff in ugly green boxes as I don't have a Microsoft system. I'm mainly looking for Nintendo stuff and things to fill out my PS2 collection so, of course, my definition of "nothing of note" varies from many others.

Tuesday

Toys R Us (K7ish area) - No Lost Magic. Even tho it didn't get great reviews, for some reason I've wanted it since running into the clearance and not getting it in Topeka last week. Struck out again here. Things of note that were in stock and clearanced price: Suikoden Tactics (they've had copies here for at least 3 months), Metal Gear Solid 3, and 2 copies of Rocket Slime which I strongly considered getting but it was still around $20 so I decided against.

KMart (Santa Fe) - Didn't get anything here either, but did see a couple of things that stuck out. If you can't find Baten Kaitos Origins for $15 at TRU, they have it for $20 at KMart. I also saw a couple of copies of Disgaea 2 in the little clearance display box. Also, if you're looking to fill out an "old" collection of XBox 360, there were $15 copies of stuff like Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, and Phantasy Star Universe. Don't know if there was any additional stacking discount on top of anything.

Wednesday Lunch

Circuit City (119th/Metcalf) - Nothing that I can remember right off hand. They had 2 large bins of stuff but none of what I was looking for from CC (Lost Magic, Magical Starsign). Looked fairly picked over.

Circuit City (Oak Park Mall) - Finally! Heck, more luck than I expected. They didn't have anything marked right but I decided to give a try. I saw a copy of Phoenix Wright 2 (only one, I think) for $20 so I said "what the heck" and also a copy of Magical Starsign for $30. They ring up Magical Starsign and at $8 and I was happy and then when my order rang up for only $20 as Phoenix Wright only was $10, I was thrilled. There is a second copy of Magical Starsign there, but it was hiding behind something else so you might have to dig. In fact, at both CC's, there didn't seem to be much order at all and this was to the stuff on the shelf. There were no bins at this CC and it looks like a lot of stuff is marked incorrect but that's the best kind of sale if you've done your homework. The only down note is that, while driving back, I realized I completely forgot to check for Valkyrie Profile 2, which was what I wanted to go there for in the first place.

Wednesday Night

Sears (~99th/Metcalf) - The other place I've been wanting to score big at is a Sears. There are sales on Mario&Luigi (DS), older Nintendogs versions, Mario Strikers (GC), and old Mario Party games (if you can find them). This one had none of the above, unfortunately. As people have been reporting in the Sears thread, nothing's really marked right and it's not until you put it in the system that it might come up. Unfortunately, since I didn't see the ones I set out for and there's not really a complete list, there were probably some good deals I completely overlooked. There were a pair of pretty full bins of all sorts of stuff including some good games but I'm not sure what is on clearance and what is just on "sale" for $19.99.

KMart (95th/Metcalf) - Not much here, either. It had a similar maybe even slightly larger collection of $15 and $25 XBox 360 games in the little clearance box but that's about it. Didn't really see anything of interest.

Sears (Shawnee Mission Pkwy) - I'm not sure how pricing goes on this since it's a converted KMar-- err--- Sears Grand. This store has always priced things differently from both Sears and KMart so I think it's typically a crapshoot. They did have some of the pink Sears clearance tags out (none at the above store) like the one in Independence Center has had from time to time, but nothing with an earth shattering price. However there was a pretty good selection of games that were a few bucks off and are hard to find if clearanced elsewhere so maybe it's a good place to save $5 on something you've wanted. All of the following were in the low $20 or less but not real cheap: Elite Beat Agents (really should have pulled the trigger on this), Castlevania: POR, Kirby Canvas Curse and for the GBA: Mario Tennis, Pokemon: Sapphire (yes, they still have a copy), and Final Fantasy 4. Also, they had a giant display at the front that I'm not sure how I missed when I came in, listing games at "under $20" but with no tags or anything. There were some decent finds there if they turn out to have a good price and unlike a KMart, they typically have someone back in electronics but it was getting late so I decided to pass tonight.

It was fun to get back into the swing of things. There's just not a ton out there for me to snag since older generation stuff is trickling out a slow rate, I have most of the DS stuff I want, and I don't have any next gen units yet.

I apologize, I should have mentioned that I found some of the other stuff on the clerance wall, not in the bin. And I found the copy of Superman 360 in the regular section. The fine print of the 33% off sale says "anything ending in .96" so everything is game. Some were mislabeled, but rang up correctly.

Wow, I just checked the bins they had in the center aisle of the store - the first few are movies, then there's a games bin with more current stuff, then one with GBA, then 2 with music. I didn't think to check prices on what was on the shelf, as I didn't see the clearance sign anywhere. I may head back that way today, and perhaps hit Sears and K-mart as well.

Went to Sears and K-Mart off Metcalf yesterday, didn't find much. Astonisha Story and Mortal Kombat Unchained for PSP at Sears, but didn't pick them up. There were some 360 games at K-Mart, but the marked prices weren't low enough for me to actually buy.

Well, let me just start by saying that I/we saved quite a bit of money. $364, according to the receipts.

I went to the Great Mall TRU and picked up:
360 ShadowRun $35.99
360 Lost Planet $35.99
360 Call Of Duty 3 Gold $0
360 F.E.A.R. $26.99
360 Call Of Duty 2 Plat $26.99
360 Marvel UA Plat $0
360 Skate $53.99
360 R6 Vegas $53.99
360 Blue Dragon $0
360 The Outfit $17.99
360 PGR3 $17.99
DS DQ Heroes RS $0

Then I talked to some people and went over to the Oak Park TRU, where we grabbed:
PS3 Untold Legends DK $44.99
Wii MySims $44.99
Wii MySims $0
Wii Big Brain $44.99
Wii Big Brain $44.99
Wii Metroid Prime 3 $0
Wii Carnival Games $35.99
PSP Jeanne D'Arc $26.99
PS3 Genji $0
DS Picross $17.99
DS Yugioh Spirit Caller $17.99
DS Final Fantasy III $0
PSP AC Adapter $8.98
PSP Dock $1.21

And that's not mentioning the run to CC on 119th/Metcalf for:
360 PGR3 $0
360 Bionicle $12
360 Phantasy Star $12
360 ?(I forget the other title)? $12
Xbx Fable $6

I signed up for a credit card at TRU to save an extra 10% off, making this a REALLY good deal, although that card now has $600 on it (I saved an extra $60!). And yes, most of that was mine. I now have games to play for approximately the next 12 months.

The CC at 119th and Metcalf not longer has the clearance wall. It's now all in one of the aisles. They finally went back and reduced the PGR3 and Kameo prices to $19.99, and still have the 33% off clearance sale. Wii Mario Strikers is still in that same box.

Of the two TRU's, the Great Mall one is the best bet. If you can't find your 3rd game there, try the OP one. It's just harder to browse there - lots of things are in stock only behind the counter, and you have to price check since labels are often wrong or missing. I'd like to thank Jay from the OP location for being very helpful in checking prices on various titles for us as we were trying to figure out which titles we wanted to mix & match.

Average Price Per Game from TRU came out to $24.59.

Not earthshattering, but the CC on 95th has the Halo 3 guide for sale today. It rings up for the sale price ($14.99) as well, so anyone wanting to grab it ahead of time can make a stop there. I picked it up there because I still had a $20 giftcard.

If anyone is looking for Elite Beat Agents, the Sears at Independence Center has a bin with a sign that says Everything in this Bin $3.97. Four copies of EBA are in there (even though it's marked $23.98). There were also some PSP accessories, some gameboy to gamecube connectors, Mario Tennis for GBA, some random PSP games, and a copy of Tales of Phantasia.

There was nothing in the bin I wanted/needed, so I didn't price check anything. But there were two employees looking through it while I was there. They were discussing how they could do some cheap Christmas shopping with some of that stuff.

If you try to buy EBA from the bin they'll probably shut you down. I found 2 copies of Ratchet & Clank for the PSP in the "All games $19.99 and under bin". I took it over to the register and it rang up $39.99. I told him I found it in the bin (the game did not have a price tag) and I wanted it for the $19.99 price. He called the manager and the manager told me it was a mistake, it was too new to be that cheap, and he put it in the glass case.

I think someone tried to get some really cheap games at Sears grand over in Lenxa. I was in the mens clothing and found about 5 games shoved to the back of a slacks rack. Mostly PSP games. I just walked them over to electronics but no one seemed concerned so I left them on the counter.

*update* I am now more sure the games ended up there from an effort to steal them. I was in the store today and some employees were discussing how to plug a gap between the game area and the rest of the store. I hope this helps, stealing games just increases the prices for the rest of us.

I'm always slightly dissappointed in the game section out there. Ever since I got the $30 wireless controller for 360 I expect to find similarly great deals. The prices on some of the used games are a little high too. Still, MC will always get my computer parts business and I will always check out the games before I leave the store.

Went to Sears at the Independece Center remembering the EBA thing, found they had one copy left, took it up to the counter and no problems at all. $4.28 with tax(darn 7.725% tax for this new arena in Indep is kinda stupid but it should be cool)

Not much, Ape Escape Acadamy was in there, and some 360 faceplates, the silver one the Wooden one, and a Viva Pinata one

Some GBA-GC cords, 3rd party remotes for the PS2

Well, here we go again. I went out to the 2 local TRU's trying to find anything interesting in stock that I didn't pick up last time. Particularly, I wanted the Orange Box. Neither of them had it, or much of anything else I wanted immediately. I was bummed.

So we headed over to Best Buy, and I saw a shelf full of Orange Boxes... And I was thinking, "Doesn't BB price match? I wonder..." So I asked the nearest blue shirt about it, and they told me that they would surely match it if they could quickly look up the deal online or if I had the ad. Score.

So I grabbed:
PSP Final Fantasy Tactics The War of the Lions $39.99
PSP Final Fantasy $29.99
PSP Dead Head Fred $0.01
360 Stranglehold CE $69.99
360 The Orange Box $59.99
360 Eternal Sonata $0.01

Not bad. Had to check out at the Customer Service desk, and have the person warn me that they want the ad in-hand to price match, instead of having to look it up online. Either way, I got the deal and a MUCH better selection to choose from.

And then headed over to GameStop, where I saw Untold Legends: Dark Kingdoms new for $19.99. We also hit Circuit City, but I didn't see much besides the Buy 1 Get 1 BluRay deal that I decided to pass on for now.

Damn I wish I had known you were looking last week. The Target off of Chouteau and I-35 had about 12 of them for a couple days in the case. If I see anymore I'll let you know.

Did anyone get in on the Blockbuster 5 for $25 coupon error in the KC area? I went to try at the GameRush store near Antioch Center but was too late (couldn't go until almost 6:00PM).

The put me on that "wait list" and it only took a day or two before there was one available. Call back every week and ask. I was told that many college students reserve them then don't pick it up because they are too poor. I take night classes there and asked/bought one when I went to get books for the summer session.

Also, I have seen stacks of them sitting on WalMart shelves in small rural towns. If you happen to have a need to drive out of town then call ahead to some of the WalMarts and ask about stock.

I got one! I wound up scoring one on Craigs list. Here's my "haul"

Wii Console with cables, box, papers
3 wii motes
2 chucks
1 classic controller
zelda twilight princess
mario party 8
8 VC games

all for $350, I think that was a pretty good deal. I definitely need to pick up some component cables to compliment my new HD. Any suggestions there, or any other essentials I need to pick up? I'm so glad I got one, my girlfriend always gives me a hard time about playing too many video games but I brought it home tonight and we've been playing for a few hours and she loves it! Thanks again for all the help fellow cagers!!! Oh and one more question...was anyone able to score the 3 saw's for $22 or however much it was. There was a deal posted about it in the dvd forum. Just curious.

Just so everyone knows, the BB on 95th is accepting price matches on the buy 2 get 1 free from TRU. I had the ad, so I would reccommend picking that up, as it is right next door. I would have no problem getting the games at TRU but they don't ever have stuff when it comes out. As it is, I scored Orange Box (360), Big Brain Academy (Wii), and Tiger Woods 08 (Wii).

The TRU match at BB seem good. I've done some math and think that it would be much cheaper for me to use GamePass so I'm going to go that route for a while. Anyone have any experience with GamePAss?

CMorrigu
10-19-2007, 06:02 PM
Oh, I forgot to specify that the Oak Park Mall BB is where I got my TRU Price Match.

I had a GamePass for a couple months, and enjoyed it. The best thing is to get it at one near your home and/or one that you pass by regularly. I had up to I think 4 different games in the same day, just because it was so close and I could. They had plenty of games from each console, so that was nice. It's better for the short-term kind of games - either a try it before you purchase, a short game you can beat in a day or two, a game you're getting just for the points, an online event game (tournament, etc), or one to play when friends/relatives drop by for the weekend. If you're going to play a game long term, you may as well just buy it and use the GamePass for the others.

I've been buying so many games lately that it's just not worth it to have the GamePass - I have plenty of variety to keep me busy for awhile. But I do think it is a great deal. If you were to buy/trade as many games as you can play on it, you'd spend much more.

Thanks, I bit the bullet and got it today. When I drove by BB I decided that if they had Beautiful Katamri then I would go ahead. I liked the first game in the series but can't justify buying this one, geting my fill for a few days and then selling it the next week (can we say bioshock boys and girls?) They had one copy left.

I also have an unoffical and no time limit contest to beat CheapyD's Gamerscore. I'm happy everytime he says he likes a ps3 or wii game b/c that means he will be playing that instead of the 360. At the rate I am gaining, I should catch up to him within the next 2 years.

edit: It seems that the rental was a good call. I've already finished the main quest of Katimari and have only a slight desire to play anymore.

Hey folks,

There is a thread about best buy's clearance onthe turtle beach Ear Force X2 wireless headphones. The Best Buy on Quivira has one left at $32. It's marked 70 and is in a separate place from the new X3s but it rings up at $32. There might be more in the back of the store since only 2 can fiton the shelf at a time. I got one of the two on display.

They do not have the 360 game stick that is being clearanced though.

My wife and I were shopping at the Lawrence Target yesterday and there were a couple of clearance endcaps and they actually had games for the first time in forever. They typically have a clearance endcap and a value games endcap but they've actually started marking some of their value games down with orange tags (for instance, Mario Sunshine was $13.97). Not much good on the clearance endcap, as per usual.

Sorry, missed me cue

I'd love to start trash talking but frankly I think this game is too much of a coin flip to get too noisy about it. Also, there's the whole element of this season being basically a dream with its surreal quality and I don't really want to rock that boat. I'm just enoying the ride :D

I do already have my Border Wa--- uh, Border Showdown (lame) shirt from HyVee so that gives me 3 KU football t-shirts (Tangerine Bowl forever!) which I think is 3 more than anyone else in Lawrence had until about a month ago.

LOL that's right KU has to root for Mizzou this week so they can get a BCS bowl. I'm really worried about the Big 12 championship game. My fear is no matter who won they would expend so much energy and emotion they'd get beat in the championship game.

I hope it's not a repeat of 1998 when Kansas State blew a chance at the national championship by losing to Texas A&M in the Big 12 Champ game.

In CAG news I noticed many of the clearance games at Target survived (very surprising) BF to get knocked down 50%. Of note I saw several copies of Rogue Galaxy down to $19.98. I'm hoping they'll hit 75% next week.

I was thinking pretty much along the same lines on both counts. This was the big game for both teams. And I remember back in 98 when KState could taste the title game, only they forgot to show up and against a worse team than Mizzou will be playing this week. Then again, opening up as a 3 point underdog should give Pinkel a lot of motivation for the team.

I'm sorry dude. The fans at Mizzou have been awful for as long as I can remember (I lived in a dorm with a view of the stadium).

Anyhow, anyone know the best place to sell an original PSP with all the fixin's around here. It's got all the extras someone could want, 2 games, scratch free screen, etc. I would put it up for trade or on ebay but there is too much of a chance of being scammed, so I'm going local. If I can't figure out a way to get rid of it by the time Gamestop has another $20 extra for systems, it's going to them. That is unless one of you knows a better store/place to take it.

EDIT: Went back to grab some eggnog and checked on Shining Force EXA. Although it's marked $49.88, it rings up $19.82. I snagged one, but it looked like there were still several other copies.

I would go ahead and sell it on ebay if I were you. Just make sure you sell to someone with plenty of feedback and a confirmed address and you'll be fine. Gamestop will rip you off.

That would be nice but, unlike buying, you can't choose the person you sell to.

On the big Target thread, someone mentioned Mario Strikers and Baseball for Gamecube hitting the clearance racks. Has anyone seen this around town?

Nice to see those on clearance. I'll be on a lookout for them and update the thread if I see anything.

Also, looks like Final Fantasy V is making its way to the clearance racks, as well. And I've been wanting that- the only time I played was about 10 years ago with a bad fan translation on an emulator that I just had to give up on after a while.

Well, I've checked the Targets at Oak Park Mall and 119th and Metcalf and no Mario Strikers or Baseball. The Target at Oak Park had quite a few games on clearance (in the corner). Perfect Dark Zero and NBA Street Homecourt were $20.98.

I was at the best buy on Quivira and there was only one GameCube left! Better hurry, it's only marked at the retail $99.99.

No deals to report from my shopping. If you want rockband, they have several that the same best buy.

Greetings! I'm on the Missouri side of Kansas City visiting relatives. Can anyone suggest a hot spot for some clearance deals? I'm mainly looking for 360 related items. I found a couple of live cards for $10 each in Independence. Anything else to be found out there?

Thanks!

I haven't lived over on that side for years. There is a new Vintage Stock in Independence I believe. Deals aren't good, but it's fun to look around the store. Half Price Books sometimes has games, but again prices aren't that great. The end caps at target are always worth a look though.

Hell, all that hype and almost nothing. All of the trees are coated with ice but the streets were just wet on my way into work. Of course half of the people at my office called in because of the "weather" even though almost all of the roads were fine.

Has anyone here taken advantage of or tried to take advantage of the "flippable" games at BB or GR? I successfully PMed a couple copies of MM for the 360 at Sears then traded them in at the GR store closest to me. I turned $10 cash into almost $60 GR credit.

I haven't really seen any other deals worth mentioning in my area. I was watching several games in the clearance rack at my local Target but it looks like all but Tony Hawk got gobbled up by Christmas shoppers before they hit the CAG sweet spot prices of 75% off.

Not that I know of. Last week CC was selling Monster Madness for the 360 for $8. The trade in value at BB/GR was $28.50. I went to Sears (they have a 110% price match guarantee), PMed the price using the ad, got two copies of the game, and traded them in at the GR near me. I was able to turn about $10 into almost $60 in credit. I think there were a few others from the CC sale that could be flipped as well but the sale ended yesterday.

Happy New Year everyone! This thread has been quiet for way too long. I haven't found any really spectacular deals lately but thought I would mention that he Circuit City in Liberty has a PS3 60GB system on sale for $449.00. I haven't seen very many of these laying around. I thought I would mention it in case anyone out there is looking for one. I usually only see the 80GB & 40GB units.

I may have to call them tomorrow. I've been in the market for one, but the whole not having PS2 play was kinda eh for me as I wanna play God of War 2 real bad, but I may have to check this out.

Hopefully it will still be there for you. I was there on New Year's night at about 6:00PM. They had a whole stack of the 40/80 GB systems in another isle. The 60GB unit was sitting on a shelf by itself in one of the gaming isles close to the entrance. It had a black & white paper printout on it that said it was a 60GB unit for the sale price of $449.00

I would say you have a good chance of finding it as that Circuit City store is new and I've yet to see more than 3 or 4 cars in the parking lot at one time.

I hope to find a 40/60 at a best buy someday to use giftcards on. I'll probably have to wait for a used on from gamestop someday.

Man, I have just been getting killed with work the past 3 or 4 weeks so there has been no time to go looking for games. The one time I did, tho, I lucked out- got the last copy of :gba: Final Fantasy V at the CC by Metro North Mall for $9 after looking for it for quite a while. I also picked up :ds: Lunar Knights for $16 but I haven't gotten into it yet and that might have been an overpay.

Hey quit raiding the stores in my neck of the woods. Stay south where you belong! ;)

j/k. That's the area I usually check. I haven't had a chance to get out these past two weeks either. I was hoping to snag PaRappa for the PSP but haven't been able to look for it.

Was on call on the weekend before New Years and was working up in North KC so I popped up to Metro North and lucked out. Really happy because I had been looking pretty hard for Final Fantasy V :)

I will usually try and hit up a few stores near Oak Park Mall when we go out south to visit the in-laws.

This past week I found a couple copies of Ghost Squad for the Wii at the Target closest to me (Chouteau & I-35). I read in the Target thread that some people were able to get it cheap because it scans "out of the system"

I took it to the register, and they asked me how much it was. I told them I wasn't sure since I found it on a clearance endcap. They did a price check and said it was $29.99 so I put it back.

This morning I saw CC had the 4GB Sandisk Ultra II Memory Stick Duo marked down from $89.99 to $52.99. This was at the Liberty MO store so I don't know if it's chain wide or just that location.

I managed to snag a clearance copy of Parappa for the PSP at the Circuit City near Metro North Mall (found it buried with all the reg priced games on the rack).

I also saw an open box copy of Guitar Hero II for the 360. The tag said it the regular price was $75 but it was marked down to $25 (guitar included). If it was the PS2 version I would've snagged it but I don't own a 360. I figured I would mention it for any KC area CAGs that might be interested in that game. They have it sitting on the "open box item" table just to the right of the entrance as you walk in.

NFM has some decent deals on video games this past weekend. Wondering if anyone posts NFM ads anymore or if they even are listed..

saw bioshock for 40, uh CoD4 for 40, some older games are discounted to 20-30 bucks.. so yeah. pretty interesting I thought.

today's ad for nebraska has burnout for $48.99 if anyone's interested.

Looking forward to help out with the deal finding.

Welcome to the group!

I was up at NFM this past weekend and they still have plenty of Jeanne D'Arc for the PSP priced at $14.99 as mentioned earlier. I haven't seen much else in the way of deals lately.

My most recent finds were full retail priced copies of Persona 3 and Tetris DS. Not exactly CAG deals but decent finds since they're hard to find in stores.
