Alright, finally a CAG close to me! Blues, you can come down and play GGXX with me sometimes. I promise not to kidnap you and hold you for ransom.

In case you Georgia CAGs don't know, there is 1 Fry's in the state. They usually have good deals on new releases (most often $10 off list price) and show up weekly on the Deals Forum. The store is in Duluth off I-85 north of Atlanta. Last time I was there I got Trauma Center, Castlevania DS, and DDS2 for the same price as in this (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69367) thread. I wanted to see if this store would have the same price cuts as the 20 or 30 stores on the west coast. I know Best Buys is usually YMMV and decided to see if Fry's is equally messed up. Looks like Fry's has their act together when it comes to coordinating prices nationwide. I'm glad that 1 1/2 hour drive wasn't wasted. I even managed to pickup the last copy of Trauma Center.

I posted this in the other thread but they are suppose to build another Fry's at Alpharetta next year. Hopefully this means they plan on expanding on the east coast.

That's all I can think of right now. I'll post more if I see anything.

If someone is from out of state I just say Atlanta. In state, Woodstock. That's the north-si-yeed.

BTW, why doesn't everybody just put their town in their profile? It make things real easy, especially when someone's talking about a great deal in their area then don't say where they live.

It is the only Atlanta store - there's no KB at Lenox or stand-alone strip mall. North Point, Mall of GA, and Arbor Place still have KB's, but those aren't Atlanta zip codes :-). The Norcross store in the Forum closed, but it never had anything good. The Vid Game section might've been the most pathetic one I've ever seen before it shut its doors.

Woodstock here...

Here is a breakdown of 2 lesser known chains in the ATL I go into quite a bit.

Rhino - If you haven't visited one yet you should. They have a trade 2 for 1 new up to $50 game deal going on all the time that isn't bad. The 2 games you trade have to be worth $10 credit each or they have to sell them on the wall for $24.99. There are several at GR you can picked up with your credit to trade in for a brand new game at Rhino. Last week I know BloodRayne 2, Jade Empire, Doom 3, Conflict Vietnam, Area 51 and Terminater Redemption all worked for the xbox. Most of those titles can be had used for $9.99-$19.99 at GR plus there is the 25% off going on used titles. Seems to be easier to find xbox games to trade then GCN or PS2. There are about a dozen in GA www.rhinovideogames.com (http://www.rhinovideogames.com) and they are owned by Blockbuster. All they sell are new/used games for any system made. Therefore its a nice place to look for older titles as well.

Movie Trading Company - Another blockbuster owned chain. Only 5 stores in ATL area. They seem to offer great trade for most games. They will pay cash or credit. D2R2 still gets $20.25 credit there if you want to avoid taking them to GR. Right now they have a good sale going on 5 selected games for $20 I posted the info in a thread today. Plus they even will give you .90 credit for each old VHS tape you have laying around. Games usually are overpriced, but they constantly markdown some titles to move it out and they have a nice selection of new/used dvds. Most of the time I dumped unwanted items here and pick up used TV series box sets.

Don't waste your time at KB's in ATL.

There isn't anything worthwhile at Cumberland or North Pointe. One of the employees at North Pointe who does the markdowns picks through it all before it hits the shelf. I know because she told me when I was in there for the last markdown and there was only 1 copy left of Ratchet. Cumberland mall has very few video games in general.

My guess would be the Hiram Outlet could be worthwhile if anyone lives out that way...

I'm coming up to Atlanta this weekend and I was wondering if there are any good places to check out for games and DVDs. Thanks for the info on the Cumberland Mall & KB Toys. I was wondering how good that Movie Trading Company is. Do they have any deals like B2G1 Free and are the prices reasonable? It sounds like a version of MovieStop that's down here in Florida (Gamestop-like layout that just deals w/ movies & buys back VHS tapes for around .50).

Movie Trading is just like Movie Stop, but Movie Trading has CD's & Games as well. Prices on used games aren't good at all. Its the occasionally deals like the new $5.99 games that are decent. Used DVD prices are pretty good. Best items I found lately have been 24 season 1 for $24.99 and entourage season 1 for $16.99.

Overall there really isn't alot to go check out right now. Some targets still seem to have a few decent clearance games around here, but the clearance markdowns took place 10 days ago.

Basically looking at tons of Gamestops, EB Games, and Rhinos if you are hundting for some games...

So, Atlantans and Decaturites, where are the best places to find good used stuff and cheap stuff?

My usual spots are Target, Fry's, Best Buy, and Circuit City (for clearance and sales). I've only been in ATL for a year and haven't been to many Gamestops or EBs. There are a ton of them here, so which are the "best" EBs and Gamestops? I live over in East Atlanta and the new EB they opened off Moreland is small and pretty limited as far as selection.

I've only been to the one TRU by Lenox and it was pretty crappy too.

Are there Rhino stores here?

I live very close to Cumberland Mall and the KB Toys store there is a joke - The Gamestop in Cumberland Mall is OK - The electronics deparment in Sears at Cumberland Mall has a clearance bin with with some GBA games at $4.99 - I remember seeing:
Elf
Super Mario
Donkey Kong
Some GBA videos I am not sure which ones
Maybie one or two more GBA games and that was about it.

I do remember seeing in the glass case the GBA game Zelda the Minish cap for $19.99 - there was only one and it was there yesterday.

There are Rhino's but they are all out in the suburbs. Check there website to see what is close to yor. Still have the trade 2 games for 1 new one going on as always. Some nice cheap xbox games qualify like Bloodrayne 2, conflict vietnam, etc. As always if they are selling it for $24.99 used it qualify's. Plus they have occasional buy 2 used get 1 used free weekends. Seems to happen about once every 6 weeks. They did one last weekend and I didn't find out until Sunday, but DS games were include. Basically walked out with 3 of the newer DS games for $40.

Love hitting Fry's, but its about a 45 minute drive for me. However I found Disgaea and Gitaroo Man there last weekend.

Toysrus game areas are all pretty much trash because of the new ownership cutting hours. I found the Gwinnett mall one to have a nice stop when I hit Frys. They always seem to have some of the harder to find RPG's including all the Atlas released games...

EBGames are all over the place and overall they are helpful. Anytime I am looking for a game you can get them to check the entire district from one store. I was able to track down a nice copy of Ikaruga for $24.99 this way.

All the circuit city stores seem to blow. Targets in the suburbs seem to be on a slower market down cycle then the deals seen posted all the time. Super Targets are definitely on a slower cycle. Some of the stores closer into the Perimeter seem to drop faster and weeks ahead of time.

As I said before the 5 movie trading company's are hit or miss. They are either overpriced or have some good deals, but the trade credit is good. BTW I just found a new copy of Growlanzers Deluxe Box set markdown to $19.99 form $69.99 at MTC the other day....

As you can tell I spent most of last Saturday hunting....

BTW if anyone is camping for a xbox 360 head to the Best Buy in Alpharetta. I am not planning on getting one myself, but I was curious and looked over the numbers hitting the ATL stores. Alpharetta had 128 premiums and 42 core. Compared to Towncenter getting 60 something total.

I'm currently revamping the game section at the Kennesaw CC. I'm getting everything reorganized, alphabetized and repriced. Hopefully everything will be done in about a week. If there is a game you're looking for call 770/590-8544, press 0 and ask for Jason in games. DO NOT mention CAG. There are some people here who are not fans of the site. I'll see if I can locate it. Considering how busy I'm going to be for the next 2 months I probably won't be able to ship it but I can hold it for a day or two if you want to come get it. I don't really have any rare games but give me a call if I can help. I don't work Sundays, Thursdays or Fridays.

Great to hear there is actually a CC employee there that gives a damn about the video games. I am always amazed how trashed the section is at any CC. You would think with the floorspace it has they would keep it merchandise right and in order. If you find a .Hack part 3 or 4 for the PS2 when you start to fix the area let me know. At least now I know there is a employee who cares over there and I will give the store another shot sometime.

Anyone in the Acworth/Kennesaw area go out last night for a 360? I got off work last night around midnight and went by the Acworth Wal-Mart (I live in the apartments right next to it), and only saw a couple people walking out with one. I just drove by to see if there was any activity, in the past that wal-mart has been a treasure trove for launches because no one ever went there.

I saw on the news how that woman was robbed in Jonesboro for the 360 she was getting for her son, sure is sad.

They do have a store I have never seen before Rhino used games. They had a tom of DC, Snes, Nes, a good amount of 64 and genesis games. There was a lot of ps1 games too. They had all current gen games at pretty good prices. I would say about gamefly prices. Also EB and Rhino oth had SUIKODEN1 for 25-30 buck looks pretty good. Yeah I was in there the 27th. All the display copies for games were on the floor, but they were sold out in the case. No games were on the floor really. Found a copy of Sega Superstar for a future gift. When I went to check out, the storage room in the front was open and I coud see it was loaded with games. There were 2 employees in it looking through the games. They were just looking at the titles and the one was making a stack of a few to the side. I worked at TRU for several christmas's and it was very common for stacks of things to be stashed aside. I notice about stacks of 20 each for the gamecube sonic 2 packs and monkeyball 2 packs. They are clearance for 9.98 now.

Normally unless a employee wants to piss off another employee the stacks are normal status quo and sit back there. However since they are starting inventory prep right now for the first week of January, they could make it to the salesfloor. Basically the dept. head for RZone will want it all pushed out of the storage room to avoid having to do counts in there. There could be a nice wave of 9.99 games and other old markdown games coming out of the storage room in the next few week.

I made the unfortunate mistake of going in there on the 23rd. No good titles to speak of whatsoever. No MMCs either. I was greatly dissapointed.

If any of you are close by and interested, the Kennesaw TRU has about 10-15 copies of Metroid Prime 2 and 15-20 copies of Geist.

I haven't played it but I've heard pretty good things, especially for $10.

Is that the TRU close to where I-575 ends into I-75? I can never remember the name of that road in front of it. I saw about 10 Polariums left for $10.

Yeah that is the one. Barret Parkway is the road. Seems like several of us stop in there once and awhile. I figure by the end of the week they should have the backroom cleaned out adn the shelves full for inventory.

Barret Parkway, that was it. I just remember that road seems to be completely jammed every time I'm down there. I hate being stuck in traffic.

I went to the Media Play right across the road too. It was having the closing sale but the video game section was pretty much cleaned out. I didn't see anything of interest to me at least. They still had a bunch of strategy guides, computer games, cds, and manga if anyone is going to be down there. I think the manga was 30% off.

Isn't there a Trade and Save down there? I remember seeing some ad for a video game store in that area but I could never find it.

Hey do you guys know any places in GA where I can get a cheap PSone screen? I've already called all 4 MediaPlays here to see if they have any in stock (they're supposed to be 5 bucks b/c of the sale) but no luck.

Checked out the Media Play on Johnson Ferry today. They seemed to have about twice as much left as they other 2 on the North side of town. Games were actually in decent order still. Wonder if they are planning to sell the xbox 360 kiosk they have there.

I'm surprised that store didn't close years ago. I lived behind it when they were constructing it. Great place for an entertainment store, but their prices didn't jive.

Anyone on the southside of town going to the Media Play in Morrow. If you do could you check to see in they have any Washburn Bad Dog 25 Watt Amp left?

I have to go to see a client in McDonough Thursday and figured it would be worth cutting over if they have the amp in stock still...

In case any of you haven't seen this yet, here it is. The list posted is from the Kennesaw store but if you find any more games at different stores post it in that thread or PM me and I'll add it. Please only add if you've bought the game and can confirm the price. Thanks.

Went by the Kennesaw Media Play today. Even though it has been dropping on Wed it did not drop today. However they did seem to have new merchandise in. There were a few guitars (squire/fender) I know they didn't have last week, with stacks of 20+ now. Plus they seemed to have just put out some DVD's Simpsons 6/7, Sopranos 5, Desperate Housewives, and a huge stack of Cosby Show.

Games selection is getting pathetic. Soon the PS2 section will just be Bulletproof and max payne 2...

Just a heads-up to anyone in ATL - the new Edgewood Best Buy (near little 5 points) got a bunch o' 360s in this afternoon. I scored a premium, and they had a decent number of additional systems in the back. If you want one, hit em up first thing in the AM tomorrow!

Lol yeah, I went there today too. I got a good chuckle at all the 50 cent and Max Payne 2 copies left. I was hoping I would find at least one game I wanted, it was probably my last time in there and it was kind of depressing, I wanted to get at least one more game from there. I've been going there since 1996, the first thing I ever bought there was Akira, the first anime (aside from the old tv shows like Robotech) I ever watched.

Yeah back when Media Play first opened up they were pretty good. It was the only place around I could get Anime in Alpharetta area. I remember back in the day when Robotech was on TV after school in the 80's. I think it was 36 that had Robotech/Thunder Sub back to back...

Coming from the Atlanta Downtown Area (GATech).

Places I like to shop in Atlanta:
-CompUSA and Target on Windy Hill - good clearances, good selection (esp. -CompUSA)
-CC on Cobb Parkway - decent selection, decent price
-Fry's on Pleasant Hill - great selection and price + old PC games in the front of the books section - got Timesplitters 2 for $10 and Unreal 2 for $8 - special deal on UT2K4 for $20 as of last week
-EB at Lennox Square Mall - well stocked, decent prices
-EB at Discover Mills - tons of used PC games

Places I don't like to shop:
-Best Buy by Lawrenceville Hwy and 285 - PC games have limited stock, nobody seems to care about the games section, especially GameCube, had to ask for a copy of Morrowind GOTY from the back.

---

Has anyone been to the MicroCenter in Atlanta? How is it? I don't know exactly where it is and consequently haven't gotten to go there.

Nice to see a good bunch of CAGers here in the ATL!

MicroCenter has 2 locations. I go to the one down off Delk Rd at Powers Ferry on a regular basis to pick up items for clients. Console game selection/prices aren't that great. They do have a nice selection of PC games and usually you can pick up the older games for around $9. When I mean old we are talking 2 years old. I picked up the star craft battlechest awhile back for $9. Nothng beats the Fry's up in Gwinnett really, but its to far to go just for a game...

I don't like that EB too much. They have a horrible selection of used PS1 games, though I did score a complete TOD1 there. I only go to that EB cause my friend works there.

I take it you go to GA Tech? I go to Georgia State, which is right down the road from Tech, and hope to transfer into GA Tech within the next semester or so.

Hey, Im also from GaTech

Theres a Microcenter in Gwinett I believe, never been in it myself. Believe its around the area past Qzar around all the restaurants acrosss from where the Toys R Us used to be.

Northpoint:
Compusa:Terrible selection, unorganized everytime i go there
Toys R Us: Mediocre selection
Circuit City: Mediocre again
Best Buy: Best selection, worst prices
EB: Nice employess usually, try to find you the least scratched used game, pretty good used game selection

EB @ Johns Creek- Newer store, not great selection of old titles or used titles. Management there are dicks, they try to refuse online returns, rude and liar to customers. The teenage employees are knowledge and generally nice

I also agree with the Frys as being the best place to shop for the current generations games. Huge selection and usually great prices. Supposedly, they are building one in Alpharetta, but I have heard no further news on the construction.

Are there any good places to buy classic games (like SNES) in ATL for cheap prices? There's a store called GameXchange in Athens where I used to live which really owned, they gave me a free intruction booklet/strategy guide for an SNES game and a GBA box w/ intructions and everything inside after I told them I bought the game cart-only a few weeks ago at the store. But recently I moved to atlanta, so that store is gone for me.

sorry to say but that store, game x-change, is closed and there is nothing in town but the j&j flea market for old games. i work at bb and have a buddy that is a manager at gamestop, but there ain't nothing cheap in this town even with my discount. i did get close to first dibs at tru however, for all the good that did me, but resident evil 4 for ten bucks was nice.

Yeah, I go to Tech, but this semester I'm doing co-op, so just work, no classes. Good luck on transferring in! It's a great school and I love it. You'd think, with so many gamers at 'Tech and State that there would be an indie games shop nearby... hmmm... Anybody got some entrepreneurial skills to make this happen?
