When I got a PSP it was on the release day, and I had a preorder.

EB Games was packed, and Best Buy had a line of people waiting outside for the store to open (EB opens an hour earlier).

Needless to say, a lot of people went home without PSPs, because EB Games and Best Buy sold out.

Later that day I went to Wal-Mart to get some stuff, and funnily enough they had 20 PSP systems in stock.

Just thought that was kind of funny. People waited in line for an hour to get nothing, yet less than 200 meters away a store open 24/7 had plenty in stock.

(I drove by the Best Buy line holding my PSP out the window)

That is why I never preorder anything. I've never had a problem getting a system at launch.

EB and GS were totally sold out of GCN on release. Went to Best Buy, they had at least 20 units.

I bought DS a couple days before launch when I worked at Kmart.

I never preorder anything unless theres some sort of free bonus involved.

I once preordered the N64. I went on Launch day and got a system, but I hadnt preordered any games. They refused to sell me Mario64. I pleaded with the guy but to no avail.

My logic that they had 1 copy of Mario 64 for every system and I preordered the system, therefore they would not be 'short' on Marios carts if they sold me one went unheeded... They were more than willing to sell me a copy of Pilotwings tho...

I went home to my apt with my N64 and Pilotwings. Like 2 days later I picked up a copy of Mario 64 at a K-Mart, where they had at least 100 of them.

The N64 launched had to be one of the worst launches in terms of choics, I went to Kmart to get my system on Launch day, believe it was a sunday? They had a total of 6 consoles, I got the 6th. And then you had your choice of Mario 64 and Pilotwings, that's all. Both good games, but I'm sure such few choices at the start hurt them in the long run.

PSP's were sold out for weeks here.. but Hastings had them in stock the whole time, no one thought to look there. Same with DS. Sold out everywhere at Christmas.. and Hastings had a ton.

The same thing happened to me when the Gamecube came out. I never got around to preordering it and all the local game stores were sold out- later that day I went into Wal-mart for batteries and there they were in the video games display case along with a single copy of Rogue Leader.

I have a similar story. I never preorder anything and had resolved to wait to buy a PSP until some games I wanted actually came out. But then I went shopping something like 3 or 4 days after launch and walked into a Target with a friend. He pointed out a huge pile of PSPs. I said "Those can't be PSPs, they just came out last week. They have to be sold out by now. It must be some kind of accessory pack." Upon closer inspection they were PSPs! My resistance weakened I bought one. Fortunately my wallet should not have to endure similar torture when the X-Box 360 comes out.

Circuit City here still has the same damn stack of PSPs from launch day!

well, i was lined up at the mall and I had a bat in one hand and a tazer in the other...as soon as the doors opened I got knocked over, but I turned around in time to shoot someone with the tazer, who touched other people and got the current going through the whole crowd. while they were all frying, I closed the doors off and locked the handles in place with the bat. I lit up a cigarette, sauntered into the gamestop and picked up my 360. it was cool. True story.

I remember seeing a bunch of PSPs at my local Walmart on (or a few days after) launch day, even though they were sold out almost everywhere else.

I have never had a problem getting anything on release day. I work at a walmart now and if we do get something in its like a month late.

The only system I ever preordered or got anywhere near launch was the N64. Had it preordered at KBToys...got the system..they had no games though. So I had a pretty new system bought on my birthday..and nothing to play on it. Got Mario 64 the next day...Pilotwings 64 a few later....Killer Instinct Gold and WaveRace 64 a few weeks after...Zelda when that came out, and the system collected dust forever after.

Now I refuse to buy a system until there are at least eight games I really want for it.
