Whenever I start up my computer, loaded with XP, my taskbar is frozen for 2 - 3 minutes. When I mouse over it, the mouse turns into an hour glass and it's just... annoying.

I've had the problem for almost a year now. I've researched (via-Google) and find forum topics and message board posts with people having the same problem -- no solution, though. People have posted solutions, but they don't work.

No idea what it could be.

Any ideas?

Dried ejaculate.

Sorry about that. :(

Dried ejaculate.

That messed up the A button on my GameCube, not my taskbar.

You've been putting up with this for a year? There's always one solution - reformat. It's good for your computer anyway.

Barring that, do you have the same problem in safe mode? If not, try cutting out your start-up programs and adding them back in one by one and see if one of them is the offender.

You can also use Ad-Aware to clean out your MRU lists - stuff like the "Recent" folder on the start menu tend to take a long time to load. Of course, on a healthy computer that should only take 10 seconds when you actually look into the folder.

I don't know what you're skill level with XP is, sorry if I'm talking beneath you.

No, no. You're not talking beneath me.

I've been avoiding reformatting, as I really, really don't want to. I don't have a removable harddrive for all of my crap... and there's a lot of it.

As far as Safe Mode goes, yes; I got the same problem. And I've actually limited my computer to having no start-up programs.

I've douched my computer of spyware and junk-n-gunk multiple times. I rarely have anything whenever I do.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I had a problem similar to that. However, my taskbar wouldn't freeze, but my ethernet connection would take quite a while to load up. I assume it's a specific program during startup taking an especially long time. I don't remember which it is, however.

Have you tried a re-load (not reformat) of XP. Maybe some OS files are wonky.

You either have too many programs set to start up with windows is why it is taking soo long or there is a program set to start up with windows that is having trouble .
I would go through as many as your software cd,s and reinstall everything yuo can from fresh to try and save you from a format
