I was thinking about his earlier and was wondering if it would ever be possible.

NO not the vs. in the "who's better" way.
I mean like sharing a common game. For instance a sports game like madden or racing game.
If they both use wifi, what are the possiblities of being able to program each version so that they can be played vs. each other over the internet?

I'm sure its apples to oranges, but do you think any future portable will ever incorporate this ability? Sort of like mac users playing vs. pc users in online games?

probably not for psp and ds games. Due to the fact that a lot of DS games really push to utilize all the features like the touch pad. The Madden versions of the PSP and DS games are probably very different from one another making it extremely hard for their users to compete against each other over wifi. Cross console competition will probably never happen since MS has their exclusive Xbox live. But there might be hope for PS3 and Revolution to allow users to compete against each other but that really all depends what Sony's online strategy will be. If they move to an Xbox live type of plan then forget about PS3 users playing with Revolution or PC users. The current PS2 has a few games that allow PS2 users to play PC users (FF XI and Need for Speed Underground).

Playing different consoles against each other is a bad idea, there will always be an unfair advantage.

The classic example is console vs PC, an elite console player can be beaten easily because the PC player has a mouse and can move the crosshair many times faster with greater precision.

With PSP vs DS, PSP users would have the advantage of a wider POV and better movement controls, whereas the DS would have the advantage of touchscreen aiming.

Racing games could work, though. Maybe if the DS emulates an analog stick it would be even, but the geometry and physics capabilities are different for PSP and DS, so the game would have to be made for DS and emulated on or ported to PSP.
