My digital camera was stolen some months ago and I just got around to buying a new one. Took some great store pics and thought to share. I will add them to VGD this week too for a nice about us page.

Proof that I have LOTS of stuff and also this is barely 20% of what I actually have.

Kick ass. I had no idea it was that big.

The money shot is the one with you out front and the Adult DVD sign among all the other game signs.

You ever see that Seinfeld episode when George pretends he doens't live in NYC and gets a date with the lady that works at the tourist bureau? Then he tell her how he's thinking of moving from Idaho or some shit to the city and she laughs because she thinks he'd get eaten alive there.

Yeah,....that's all.

DAMN! I could easily spend a lot of money in your store...my first thought after seeing all these pics was to call up my friend who is visiting NYC right now and say "DUDE YOU GOTTA VISIT THIS STORE AND BUY ME A BUNCH OF STUFF!"

Anyway, sweet shop man, sure wish there was something like that around here. The girlfriend's been begging me to take her to NYC on a trip sometime so maybe we'll have to do that and stop by sometime this summer.

Thanks for all the compliments but with Ebay my store is sort of useless now. There is almost nothing in my store you couldnt just bid on at ebay. Years ago my store was like the only place to get really rare items so I could command a fair price. Now every other person just views the store as either a museum or a catalog of things they need to find on the web.

Porn baby...it's my future.

Now to find a deep pocket sucker to buy the inventory or the entire store. If you notice on the window bottom right there is a white sign "Business for Sale".

But dont worry...VGD aint going anywhere. Still gonna do mail order just fine. I dont really sell used or too many rare items at the site. Even though I could. If I cant sell enough in my store I may start listing used games at the site.

Just take 1 sec and think about how many MILLIONS of dollars in games I have sold and have been inside this store. Just about every game that has ever existed has been in my possession at one time or another. I kept a buttload of rare items in storage and about 2 years ago I sold a bunch of it for some great prices.

Toilet Kids for the TurboDuo import is one of my favorite titles. It's a shooter that was meant to be a hygiene game and there are shit monsters you kill while riding a toilet. NO JOKE. Also the manual is awesome as it has all these shit monsters holding piles of crap throwing them at you. You have to see it to believe it.

If you list used games I would buy from you (exp. those older harder to find titles) more often.

overall seeing some of that stuff made my jaw drop (things like the Hello Kitty DC)

wow, that's alot of freaking games. You have an insane amount of stuff. It's a shame your not doing better busness. Your store should be a landmark that all gamers visiting NY should visit.

Do people bring you bizzare/rare items & games that they have no idea how much they are worth ? And if it's an item that you've never seen, but assume it's rare, how do you know how much your willing to pay for it ?

I aint worried about a burglary..I got the place locked down tight. I had a burglary in 2 other locations though and had about $25,000 stolen in total from them. That sucked. And no it wasnt insured. It was just gone. One of the groups of thieves was caught and sent to jail but I didnt even get one game back. I am sure the cops confiscated items and just kept that shit for themselves. The kids that broke in were a local gang who went through a window that was secured with locks but they broke the locks. The super in the building has a 14 yr old kid that helped them get into the building. I wanted him to go to jail but prosecution let him go. He was a kid who is in my store all the time...he was a little prick. I hope he is a fucking bum now.

Anyways...now you all know why I get plenty of famous people in my store and I get calls all the time for shows, interviews, and even just my simple opinion. I had this stock broker that tried to get me to tell him shit and I did a couple times but then I told him straight out that he needed to pay me because I wasn't a free source for him to profit from.

MTV and MTV2 calls me often enough for shoots. Spin Magazine, Rolling Stone, Maxim, Time, and others use my products or store for props.

I still can't believe Meg Ryan came in...she was so cute. D'Onfrio is one of my favorite creepy shoppers....and there are tons of other stories. 10 years in business has given me lots of things to talk about...lots of fond memories. It will be a sad day when I close that store...even if it stays open it will most likely be a porn shop. It was fun running Multimedia 1.0 for many years.

http://www.videogamedeals.com/page_info.php/pages_id/2/pages_name/About%20Us

As for how many of the games have I played...more than 5% for sure...how MUCH of each game I have played is rather little. I just try a level or two of most games. We open almost all the new releases that are interesting and thats been for years now. So I may have actually tried about 80% off all games released in the past 8 years. Few games I find interest me enough to play past the first level. I can name every game in the last 10 years I have finished...not a long list.

Tomb Raider
Resident Evil
Vanishing Point (excellent racing DC game)
Worms
Worms Armageddon
Gran Turismo
Soul Calibur
Baldurs Gate
Dead to Rights (some hated this game but I loved it)

very few that I really really enjoyed enough to play more than 10 minutes

Thats just console. I am more of a PC gamer...always have been. I played Doom I and II over and over and over. Quakes I rock and then Half-Life...now for the last 1 1/2 I have put hundreds of hours into Counter-Strike. I just bought Condition Zero and its fabulous. I immediately killed my CS server and started a CZ server. Its wonderful. Another 1000 hours will wasted.

I have a Pentium 4 3.2 ghz HT system waiting for Doom III and HL2 to be released. I will buy a $400 graphics card when they do. I have bought a new PC with every major id release. I will make no exception for Doom III. Those that don't know can keep playing Final Fantasy.

BTW-I have never played ANY of the Final Fantasy RPGs. Not even for 5 minutes. I find them horrifyingly boring with things to read and quest after quest. That's just my opinion and preference though.

you should def. start selling used games online. I think it would help you increase sales a lot, and more people would be able to cash in on some of the rare stuff you have.

Remember I mentioned a HUGE collection of games I had saved up over the years...well just about the only thing I kept was an enourmous selection of NES games. I must have about 800 titles in boxes.

I could easily fill a store twice my current size with what I have in storage and just filling out my current product. I didnt even take pics of the floor behind the cabinets which are just pilled up with boxes of games.

Oh well...

I am in the Bronx but used to hang around the Village a lot before I got married. The store looks familiar. Is this at St. Marks between 2nd & 3rd? Please advise. If it is, this store is awesome. Wanted to get the Sega Nomad a couple of years ago but it was out of my price range. This store is ideal for collectors who might have a hard time finding a particular item. Great selection. Thumbs up!!!

defender
05-11-2004, 09:38 PM
Yeah that's my store.

And yeah...because rent is high many items are priced out of most collectors range especially since they can get most of the items on Ebay. People would rather take a chance of getting ripped off if they can save a few bucks.

The reason I have so many good items is because I pay more than most people would...I know the value of many items. Also I have to compete with Ebay not only as a seller but as a buyer. People come here with intentions to sell me items and unless I give them a price thats comparable to Ebay they wont sell many times.

So the problem is simple. How can I make money from buying product that A) I have to buy at the selling price of Ebay and b) I have to sell at that same price as Ebay.

The answer is simple: I can't. Hence I will have to change my business and basically abandon the classic game market which was my bread and butter years ago.

5 years ago I sold more Atari 2600 systems then Playstations and Dreamcasts combined. I sold the classic handhelds for as much as $200 a pop. They have since been rereleased in $10 versions you can get at walmart. I used to be able to get $40-$200 for Nintendo Game and Watches. Now they sell cheaper and cheaper on Ebay. Many times I see the inventory that I have on ebay for less than what I own it for. Essentially my classic inventory is rotting in place. While its great stuff and worth plenty. It used to be worth more and I paid accordingly. The past 2-3 years have changed the game retail (if not all retail) market tremendously.

Justin (Just Blaze) is a great customer here...

He is a really nice guy. He hangs out with us and plays games while he shops here. He calls me when he is in town to ask whats hot and shit and to hold stuff for him. I got some nomads laying around...I hate to discourage sales but dont be upset if the price is more than what you can find one on Ebay.

As for CAGers stopping by...a few have and I usually enjoy when they just simply mention..."hey I heard about this place at CAG"...this usually inspires me to ask what the username is and introduce myself.

I have to question the p[ossibility of porno being more prfitable than your game store. Maybe I'm completely naive, but porno is free on the internet. At least with Ebay, poeple have to pay something and wait for it which would give them more incentive to just go to your store and get it there. With porno, god, there's tons of it. I had considered opening a porno shop once, but I rethought it because I'm not usre of the market for the old fashioned kind at this point. I'm sure it sells, but, how well?

Reminds me of this store Famcom that used to be near me in Washington, except that dude sold bootlegs too. Dude has laseractives, a dozen nes test stations, like 30 sealed copies of pepsiman, and a few creates full of import saturn games. The guy went out of business though because he never wanted to sell shit at a decent price. I sold him like 100 turbografx games though.

Maybe I should rethink the porno thing then. I'm sure it's one area of retail where people rarely complain.....

Wow, I feel like I've cased the joint without leaving LA. If you'd just include some exterior shots of the rear...

Ah, Toilet Kids. I had one of those long ago and probably paid a tiny fraction of what it would command on eBay now. Liquidating my PC Engine collection is one of my great regreats.

If you ever decide to change your store location again, you are more than welcome to open tent in Ohio. I would live in your store if I could. Very impressive collection, needless to say. Maybe when I get a chance to check out a Gamers Nite Groove, I'll stop in your store.

I remember way back in 1998 I was part of the production crew that filmed in your store for the pilot of video game show for ZDTV, which was called Extended Play. Then the show ended up becoming Gamespot's off-shoot, Gamespot TV then back to Extended Play (after Paul Allen turned ZDTV into TechTV). Now the show's X-Play and is in G4TechTV.

Speaking as an NYC resident, this place looks fantastic. I used to trek out to Diehard, Microplay, or Game Express on Long Island to get my imports. Chinatown has some great deals sometimes, but lately I've found cheaper prices online. Defender's shop looks killer though, I'm definitely checking it out.

Got a used Neo Geo CD in stock? :o
