I'm doing a promo through my job that allows me to get a Pentium D 2.8ghz processor and a Intel Motherboard (forgot model number) to replace my 2.4 ghz P4 for just under $200. Problem is, the new mobo doesn't have an AGP slot, only PCI Express. Meaning, I'm gonna need a new video card. I'm looking for something under $250 that can measure up to a Radeon 9800 XT. I'm running a 9600 Pro now, and I'm starting to notice a little lag with games like Quake 4, plus I'm starting my Graphic Design career run and need something with good graphics capability. I can't afford a Mac, so I figured I'd just make my PC as good as it can be. Any help is appreciated.

I have seen X800XL cards for around $250'ish online, will outperform a 9800xt nicely.

You want to find one of those Sapphire GTO2.
So far one of the few places that has it left is here. (http://www.allstarshop.com/shop/product.asp?pid=12993&sid=74Q8M6MBN4G39K4WKWB5VU1LHNN76E4B) I don't know how reliable the store it.
These cards casn be software modded up to an X850XT. instruction (http://www.techpowerup.com/articles//overclocking/vidcard/127/1)
Yopu'll save yourself about a hundred bucks. That's if you have PCI Express.
taken from another topic but relevant for you.

Just looked it up on Newegg (buying ALL my stuff there). A little out of my price range. What's the next step down from that?

The X700 is a good midrange card. You could also try and find a X800. The 6600GT is also around that area but you can find a 6800 in your price range.

this is where you guys should utilize the CAGgrabber.

Ordered by popularity (except featured product) and you can use filters to customize your search.
If you can sport the money, the 7800's are pretty good bang for the buck and don't have ATI's crappy driver support.
