I'm sure with the rapid fire of high profile releases there are games that you haven't had time to pick up. Games that maybe got pushed back because there are only so many hours in a day especially with an infant. What games are you looking forward to getting into in 09 that you have so far missed in 08?

Strolling through my local EBs/GSs, I could not help but notice that all of the "NEW" games were opened with the games removed. Doesn't it lose its "NEW" status if they break the wrap off, cut security stickers, pepper it with their labels (because 1 sticker is never enough) and remove the game.
At best, these should be as DEMOs or slightly used. I am not 12 and understand how thief prevention is a necessity. I usually buy used or bargain bin games being a true cheap ass, but I want to break that cherry wrap when I buy a NEW priced game. Not seconds to the "game experts". So I must now hunt for new games elsewhere...
What is your opinion to this vile practice?
Thanks, (and you guys rule!)

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,
So Microsoft went further in their endless quest to stop people that live outside of Japan from playing the RE5 demo by now keeping the demo itself from just loading off of the hard drive, meaning that unless you burnt it to a blank disc, you're not playing it until they release it outside of Japan. Should they have just given up and taken the stance of not caring about people creating accounts for other regions like Sony does with PSN?
What is the more impressive number: 28 million Rock Band songs sold or 22.5 million times user-generated levels were played online in LittleBigPlanet?
Wombat, we've faced off twice so far in the Wombat Fantasy Football League and I've beaten you twice to knock you out of title contention. Are you confident about winning our third match-up for the consolation prize of fifth place?

Halcyon Games is doing the new terminator game which is based on the new terminator movie (ugh) also being done by Halcyon Company. For the most part the same company rarely does the movie and the game. Since the only one I can think of is LucasArts and the Star Wars games back in the day were pretty good do you think this bodes well for the Terminator: Salvation game? Are we getting another Riddick or yet another suckfest?

This one's for either Wombat or Cheapy.
With the November sales numbers in, we see that sequels or yearly-releases in a franchise, such as Madden '09, Gears of War 2, and Call of Duty: World at War have sold millions of units each. New IPs, however, have struggled to sell any number of units, with Dead Space selling only 421,000 copies, Left 4 Dead selling 410,000, Mirror's Edge selling a paltry 145,000, Little Big Planet a shocking 141,000, and Valkyria Chronicles a scant 33,000 copies. My question is, why do you think these games didn't sell well? Was it the time they were released, the economic situation, the quality of the title, or were people just not interested?
Personally, I find it depressing how many people berate EA and Activision for releasing nothing but sequels and yearly-iterations in a franchise, but rush out to buy them and ignore new games that are trying something different.

The Wii and the iPhone have something in common besides their popularity among the masses. They both have a glutton of really horrible and bad games. Two quesitons.
1) Which do you think has the most favorable ratio of good games to bad games?
2) Which will have an easier time changing that ratio and which is more likely to do it?
I never thought I'd miss the gamecube days but the gamecube had a pretty nice ratio and for all the kid games we got there was a nice stream of decent to good games constantly that we seems to be lacking on the Wii. 09 is looking good though (The Conduit, MadWorld, DragonQuest, Onechanbara Bikini Zombie Slayers, Deadly Creatures, HoD: Overkill, Tenchu)

Cheapyd and wombat,i remember back in may of last year that you guys said Microsoft has no chance of success in japan. Now we are seeing some pretty good success and momentum from them with 360 outselling ps3 for 7 weeks in a row before and the sales are up triple the amount from normal for some time now. How do you feel about this?

Cheapy and Wombat,
How do you guys feel about companies putting out premium content for games that are basically broken? We've seen this most recently with Gears Of War 2 and the new Combustible Map Pack. This is a game that desperately needs to be fixed in the online department to actually be playable, yet it seems that Epic's only concern is charging for maps that definately were developed before the game launched.

Hey Cheapy, what's up with the f-word being censored on CAG? Is it just a funny gimmick or do you, a person who tells stories of a guy eating a piece of shit for money, just not want the word on CAG?
I would also like to thank Cheap Ass Gamer for bringing my family such incredible deals this holiday season. Because of CAG I have the bundles for Guitar Hero III, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith & Rock Band 2 sitting under my tree. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

Greetings, gentlemen! Wombat, have you thought about marketing yourself in a Shawnimals (http://www.shawnimals.com/) fashion? I know I'd buy a Wombat plush and possible Wombattown (http://shop.shawnimals.com/product/ninjatown-ds) game. Cheapy, same question. I think you two possess enjoyable personalities and could market anything---especially big ass chains.

A quick question: everyone who listens to the CAGcast knows Cheapy is anal when it comes to the pronunciation of karaoke. Why does that not apply to Akihabara? Cheapy is fine with saying aki-harbara when it should be pronunced aki-ha-bara. Thoughts?

Japanese has no stress on the syllables, but when talking in English it's pretty much impossible to ignore doing that. He's got a New York Jew accent--that's why he does it. If you want to get technical about it it should be pronounced a-ki-ha-ba-ra. To the other thing, when you live in Japan, saying "carry-oh-key" is truly grating as it's soooo wrong--it's like living outside of the rural American South and saying "new-kill-ur" when talking about atomic power or "High-why-yuh" for the island state in the Pacific Ocean. In fact, it's so wrong that most English-speaking Japanese in Japan wouldn't even understand you. As a guy who lived in Japan, my foreign friends and I learned quickly that everybody says karaoke like the locals. It's funny to me that Cheapy says he thinks it makes him sound like a douche--because I think that's only true when talking to native English-speakers who haven't lived in Japan and who don't understand. But then again I could just be a douche, too. He really would be a douche if he said "Hanbaga" when he was talking in English about a hamburger or "biru" when talking in English about a Budweiser.
Now to my question:
What non-gaming present are you guys getting this year? This year was my year for a watch--got a nice German-made automatic one that will last a lifetime and beyond. (somebody else's pics here (http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=174875))
And to turn that around, what are the chief cheapasses getting for Shima and Mrs. Wombat?

Hello Wombat and Cheapy.
My fiancee is a non-gamer. Bizarrely she loves to listen to the CAGcast, however, and by now has amassed a fair bit of knowledge about you two. I generally play it through her car's ipod stereo when we're driving around New Jersey or New York. Though she tunes out when games are discussed, she enjoys hearing (and seeing pics of) about Baby Tai, Sabrina Eden and your respective lives... especially strange Japanese tomfoolery, Wombat's impersonation of his mother, and the two of you ribbing each other. She only tunes out the show when the toilet humor and talk of Cheapy's bowel movements get a bit too thick for her delicate sensibilities.
HOWEVER, she is curious about the enigmatic Mrs Cheapy and Mrs Wombat. I promised her that I'd inquire, since to my knowledge, barring some guest-starring on the podcast, these two ladies are ciphers in my fiancee's eyes. SO, as a proxy for my lovely fiancee, I'm asking her question: Why are there no family photos of The Complete Cheapy Family or the Wombat Clan? Is Mrs Cheapy a O-Ren Ishii who can't afford to be seen in case The Bride gets to her? Is Mrs Wombat horribly scarred like Madame Masque from the comics?
If there are no existent pics, is there any chance of a holiday photo to prove that you and Wombat aren't married to imaginary people?
Cheers, happy holidays, and gambatte!
Vrylakos and future Mrs Vrylakos.

cheapy dizzle and wombizzle i have a question for you. I am an old school gamer that grew up on nes, snes and 64. i am now an raging shooter fan, or should i say a raging COD 4 fan. I learned to play shooters on the N64 and now i can only use legacy controls (Left stick - move forward/backward look left right, right stick strafe left right, look up down.) Much to my dismay a lot of games are not offering legacy controls and it makes the game unplayable to me farcry 2, crackdown, deadspace to name a few. COD, Halo and Gears are the only games i can play. i need you to get the word out to these designers that there are a lot of us "legacy" people out here and we will not buy their games if they don't have that control options. it's really a lose lose. Hey
I just wanted to say great last show (it was very good Christmas Eve listening material). I really liked You, Wombat and Shipwreck doing a show together and thought why don't you did this more often? Like every month or so the three of you (and maybe even Mrs. Shipwreck) get together and have a super CAG team show? I think it'll be really nice to have the whole CAG team together reflecting on the month and the Inevitable bashing of games that everyone else seems to like.
Just a thought, thanks and keep up the good work :)

Cheapy and Wombat - I have to say that the Netflix streaming movies is really cool. And, many have downloaded games via XBLA and PSN. How long do you think it'll be before games and movies for that matter are sold strictly as downloads, therefore, no used games, no borrowing games, no swapping games, and same for movies. Sony created the BluRay, and won the format war over the HDDVD, but why is any disk needed at all if you can just stream from Netflix or download the game to a hard drive? I suppose it'd take a rather large hard drive to hold my entire game collection, but I think its fairly clear that's the direction things might be going.

Hi Cheapy/Wombat,
I have two questions ...
Question 1: It's that time of the year for every gaming related blog/website to create its Game of the Year list. So I'm wondering, what do you guys think should be the relevant criteria for selecting a game of the year? Should it be a melange of technical proficiency and a good time/value ratio or should it just be about how much fun you had?
Question 2: I was wondering what your gaming predictions are for 2009. What games do you think will be great or terrible? What studios will excel or fail? What general trends can we expect in sales? Etcetera

Is the western an underated gaming idea?
First I have to think Wombat for recommending Silverado a few CagCast back, what a great movie. It got me to thinking, why are their not very many good Western themed games?
I can think of Red Dead Revolver and Gun as decent ones, but it seems as a whole this genre gets no gaming love. Do the two of you know of any gaming gems I am not aware of and what do you think a great western game would include?

This is a question for Cheapy,
I have been listening to old cagcasts as i do when i play videogames and have no new podcasts to listen to, and i keep hearing about exciting new things you are planning to do with Cag and the Cagcast. Things like the video podcast, the game collection system, guests of the cagcast including rocksolidaudio or shipwreck are things i would really enjoy but it seems that they will never happen, so i got one question, CheapyD what gives?
Well guys thanks for your time, keep it up.

Hey CheapyD,
First time poster here but a long time listener of your awesome podcast.
Just wanted to give you a heads up since you seem to be watching alot of documentaries lately. You should really watch this documentary called "The Great Happiness Space: The Tale of an Osaka Love Thief" on netflix. It's avaliable through live streaming on netflix. It's a documenary on Japanese hosts in Japan and their female customers, why they come to host clubs, and what it's like for Japanese men to do this kind of work. I thought you'd be interested in this documentary since I also remember in one of your older podcast, you mentioned you had a friend who worked at a host club and had to eat Poo for a ridculous amount of money. Anyways hope you watch it because I think you would find this documentary very fascinating. Let me know how you like it if you ever get a chance to watch it.
On a different note, speaking of movies, you and Wombat should really watch "Slumdog Millionaire" with your spouse which is out in theaters right now. Great Movie. I think you guys would really enjoy that movie with your spouse.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,
With the current economic downfall we are facing here in the states do you think more game developers will offer games at a lower MSRP? I know I jumped on Banjo and Kazooie because of the cheap price point before I thought about other 60$ blockbuster titles. Do you think developers can afford to do this with high production costs, or do you think they can survive with a 39.99 game and then nickel and dime us for DLC that we will need to fully enjoy the game?
Thanks

Hello, Cheapy and Wombat. Considering Shipwreck's Ginger, who would both of you be on Gilligan's Island?
I jest. My real question is: Do you think Sony will release a PS4? If Sony does release a PS4, what do you think it will be? Taking into consideration how developers Valve (http://ps2.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=15020) and Bethesda (http://ps3.qj.net/Bethesda-PS3-technical-limitations/pg/49/aid/81701) have spoken out about the difficulties in developing games with the PS3 in mind, do you think Sony will try to make as bold a statement with their hardware as they did this generation? What do you think Sony needs to do to succeed next generation?
Thanks, and keep up the great work.

Happy Holidays!
Got a couple of quick questions.
First, what are your favorite Holiday TV specials? I'm going with Rudolph.
Secondly, everyone is talking about what Sony has to do to get back into the game this generation and that 2009 will be the year of the PS3. My question is what does Microsoft have to do to make sure they bury Sony, and encroach on Nintendo's stranglehold on the top of the NPDs?
Looking forward to the show

How have technical glitches affected your experience with Fable 2 so far? I've really been trying to enjoy the game but I'm just not going to deal with the constant freezing anymore. Hey guys another question for you this week.
Now that its safe to say that the economy is in a downhill motion, what do you think the outcome of sony will be. Lately i have been reading alot about how much finacial trouble sony is in, and thats not just because of the ps3. Take a walk past any of my local sony stores and you will notice (like most shops) they are giving away products. This can't be a good sign.
Now compare it to the other to rivals. Microsoft has pretty much made the xbox 360 cost effective for them and will always have windows to back them up, and nintendo is souly and gaming company and all its energy and money is focused on that.
Do you not feel that sony should start to pull there finger out and realise what they are doing to there NAME! Dont get me wrong i love sony and think there products are amazing. But its just the product that plays games that is having the most trouble. I just begin to feel that another cheaper/family friendly SKU will make an apperacne one day, so sony can start to make some money on it.
Thanks again, great show.

Dear CheapyD and Wombat,
I was recently listening to Cagcast #124: Karmic Vomit, and i believe in that episode, Wombat mentioned that someone had put in the N word in animal crossing for the DS and the game had pronounced it properly, and recently i was on a website and it had a link to gamespot UK news, that Wii Fit had called a 10 year old "fat". If this is true do you believe the Nintendo franchise will lose supporters since the nintendo is some what of a child's gaming company??

No one even looked. http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207749. Since then i have been constantly updating it. Then Master Shake post the DotD and the 360 version was on sale for 50 with other skus on sale and what do you do? You put it on the fucking front page and everyone knows about it. I clearly had a well done post in that thread posting all the different skus and everything. My question is why was my thread so ignored? Wombat.....you still rock.

Listening to your cagcast #144, I hear the constant bashing of Little Big Planet. As a single player, I really don't enjoy the game and I hear what you say 100%. But as a parent of a 7 and 5 year old. They constantly play the game since day 1 of release and after a few days of new Christmas games they are back online playing Little big planet levels. The kids play together and really enjoy the game. So I think the creating is made for creative type kids to show off and practice level creation(maybe they are looking for the next great level creator?) I just think the game is really fun for the kids and it's nice to play 4 players as well. We've tried online but without mics for most online players the game doesn't work.
Happy New Year to all.

Gametrailers awarded the Playstation 3 with best Software lineup of 2008, citing that it got good 3rd party games that were on par w/ the 360 versions, and a healthy mix of "good" exclusives, from Resistance, LBP, and MGS4. - HOw do you and Wombat feel about this award going to PS3... was it the right choice? In terms of software, was 2008 the year of the PS3?
Is it possible for Killzone 2 to be the PS3's Halo? If you've played it, will it be good enough for people to use in tournaments, and will the online community embrace the game all throughout 2009?
Is it possible that the base price of new games will fall from 59.99 back to 49.99?
Will the market somehow convince devs to complete smllar projects on PSN/XBLA? DO you think that we'll see more games of the past making a comeback as downloadable software?
When Sony puts out their financial reports regarding the sales of video games; the report tends to always show low sales, low profit, they're losing money. Is it possible that some of that lost profit is being recouped in another area - specifically, in the sales of Blu Ray players and Software? [Since PS3 Blu Ray win out over HD DVD there should be ncreased profits in other Sony Divisions.]
Cheapy you got any CAG specific deals for us, from Amazon? They get a lot of good business from you...maybe you can get Amazon to give CAG a little discount here or there sometime during the year?
end of questions.

Cheapy and wombat,
I happened to be trudging through the snow at Auschwitz this afternoon and on the way back to town i really needed something light to listen to. I ended up listening to the part of the show where you two joked about jews having horns. really not what i needed to hear at that point :(
granted both of you guys are jewish and i am not and the context of me hearing it was different from the one where you said it, but do you ever feel uncomfortable saying some of that stuff?

Hey Cheapy and Wombat; here's a bit of an odd question: If one were to poke Wombat in the stomach, does he go "Hoo-Hoo!" like Poppin' Fresh? (if so, please demonstrate) He seems like the type of person who would.
(btw, that is apparently how you spell "Hoo-Hoo!"; I wikipedia'd that shit)
Does Wombat have any insight or insider info on Hearst/UGO's rumored acquisition of EGM?

Cheapy and Wombat,
How do you guys feel about the possible shrinking or buy-outs of video game sites such as what just happened with 1Up and EGM? Will this trend continue with other websites as well? If so, which major game website do you think might be next?
In addition, do you think it will be easy for the staff of these websites to move and regroup elsewhere or are their days of working in the game industry likely over?

Hey Cheapy 'n Wombat,
I'm a little curious as to how the beta will be handled for CAG 2.0 involving people who had donated to the Child's Play Charity. The way I see it there is or was no way to tie your CAG account to your donation without leaving a note with the donation or your email was attached to your CAG account. The reason I bring this up is because I do not use PayPal but my wife does, so My wife and I just used her PayPal account to make the donation(which is tied to her email not mine).
I myself am not terribly concerned about this, as the donations were for a great cause. However, others may be in the same boat as myself, should I
A.)change my email address to my wife's email in CAG
or
B.) Just email or PM you(Cheapy), so you can figure it out
I'm definitely stoked about the new additions to CAG and if I could get an early jump that would be friggin' awesome.

I just heard that Wii Sports has outsold the original Super Mario Bros. This is basically the beginning and end of the hardcore gamer. With casual games being orders of magnitude more profitable and easier to make than hardcore games, the times they are a-changing. What do you guys see the gaming landscape of the future looking like?
I think a major symptom of these changes is already expressing itself in the fact that cheapy and wombat combined had less than 3 wii games they were interested in this year.
Do you guys think Sony and Microsoft will focus on casual games in the future as well?

Cheapy & Wombat, have either of you given a thought as to how you plan on introducing/monitoring your kids video game playing? I have two young boys (5 and 2) and am debating when I should let them start playing video games and what and how much of it they should do. Most studies I've seen say parents should be more concerned with quanity of tv/video game time as opposed to quality. Do you guys plan on holding video games back from your kids till a certain age and when/if they start playing do you plan on controlling what and how much they play? Just asking as one parent to another.

Hello CheapyD & Wombat,
I have a couple of questions and here they are
CheapyD: Listening one of the older cagcast podcasts's (this one was when gta 4 came out) you and Wombat were having a friendly competiton on who would get further in gta 4 and by the sounds of it you were really addicted to that game, and all of a sudden the game became the runner up for most dissapointing game of the year. Did you give it that title after Saints Row 2 came out or were you planning on giving that title to gta 4 all along?
CheapyD: What do you prefer more, play asia or amazon??
Wombat:After UGO had fired (i guess) you, are you going to try and work for another website that will give u around 1.50$ per post?
Wombat: Do you find it hard to get some time to play video games now that Sabrina is in your life?
CheapyD & Wombat: I was recently listening to cagcast #126(i believe) and Wombat had mentioned that on the ds, animal corssing(once again, i believe) had a feature in which u can type in something and the game had repeated what you had typed in and someone had put the n word and it reapeted the N word. And recently i was on a website and on top of this website it had a link to gamespot uk and it had a article in which nintendo Wii had called a girl fat. I am not sure if this is true or not but if it is true do you two believe nintendo will not have a bright future if the games keep on making these mistakes???

i think you guys should do a "knowing is half the battle"-style segment. here's my recommendation for the first piece of helpful information for the CAG community:
The dollar sign goes before the dollar amount. Shocking! Despite the fact that we read the dollar amount with the word "dollars" at the end, the symbol actually precedes the numbers. Perhaps some CAGs have been so busy just plain enjoying those cheapassgames that they never took the time to notice the proper format for displaying American currency amounts. (employ "now you know" voice) ... and that's why the CAGcast is here. FAH FAH FOOEY!

Wombat, I was listening to an earlier podcast (EP. 51) that was recorded right when Microsoft announced the movie downloads for the Xbox. You were very opposed to the idea, and declared "I WANT MY GAMING CONSOLE TO PLAY GAMES!" Now, you've recently stated that you've cancelled your cable, and stream Netflix right to your gaming console. What changed your mind in that timeframe, and why are you okay with watching movies on it now?

With the loss of so many qualified people in the UGO/1UP acquisition, do you think that many of the remaining people left at 1UP will leave to pursue other things (perhaps with their laid off co-workers) much like Brad Shoemaker, Ryan Davis, Vinny Caravella, and Alex Navarro did when Jeff Gerstmann was fired from GameSpot?
Keep up the good work, guys. And Wombat, I hope you get employed soon.

Are you FriskyTanuki? If not, can you please admit your man-crush and stop pimping his questions every episode? I love the show and I have nothing against F.T., but my god between your weekly pimping of F.T.'s questions and the newfound need to promote Nick Suttner, the CAGcast has turned into an infomercial for the same people (or their questions) every episode. You might as well just replace Wombat with the "Magic Puddy" guy and start promoting products every week.
Relatedly, Suttner seems like a nice enough guy, but if he doesn't have the courage/integrity to call Shane Bettenhausen's apparent sony crush like the whole world sees it, what faith can I have in his ability to review anything. Thanks Cheapy, WOMBAT RULES - and yes, I did intentionally write that in hopes that Wombat would make you answer these questions in the CAGcast .

Sweet and salty mustard chicken stir-fry, apparently. She's just one of the Street Fighter IV-themed Chinese entrees for characters like Sakura, Dhalsim, and Rufus.
While the Sakura themed meal is sweet and salty chicken and potatoes, Dhalsim is all about the sweat-inducing spicy noodles. The Rufus meal is made from three types of meat (beef, pork and chicken) in a black sesame sauce.
Entrees range from ¥880 to ¥1,380 and are available at these fine eateries from February 12 to February 28: Xin-Li and 10,000 Butaki.

Cheapy/Wombat,
As evidenced by the popularity of the Wii and DS, and recently of Microsoft attempting to get a piece of the market, the casual game genre is booming. Obviously, by the definition of casual games, not much in the way of in depth reviewing or discussion nor previewing is needed. This of course negates a lot of reason for places like IGN or GameTrailers to exist. Sure, there will always be the "hardcore" games like your Halos or Killzones, but as the game industry trends more and more to the casual each day, do you feel the value and demand for game enthusiast press as a whole is being compromised or diminishing? Could this be a part of the reason why EGM/1up collapsed?

Cheapy and Wombat,
In the past few recent days it has been mentioned that Wii Sports is now the number one selling video game of all time (40.24 million sold). Do you believe that this should count since it was bundled with the Wii (except in Japan and Korea)? I know the same argument can be made about Mario Brothers for the Nintendo as well, your thoughts?

while screwing around with my iPhone one day, I noticed that it had every single episode of the CAGcast on there, and I started listening to the older episodes for shits and giggles, and dammit, im hooked. I listen to it practically all day on my exam break.
It is hilarious listening to you two talking about the new "Nintendo Revolution" and how awesome Perfect Dark and Call of Duty 2 are.
So yeah, thank you for the hundreds of hours of hilarious comments and stories, and damn you apple for making it all available >.<

Hi Cheapy and Wombat,
I was wondering if you could answer my question. Given that the increased casual market on the Wii and DS and also iPhone is getting bigger all the time, do you think that we will have to change the way we perceive and play games in the future?
I ask because both of you said you have not played your wii's in a while and I also find it hard to get games I want to play on my DS.
I ALWAYS find games I want to play on my Xbox 360, but I fear that in the coming years I maybe forced to play the more casual stuff.
I am a great fan of the show, keep it up ;)

Hey Cheapy,
After being on the edge of buying Burnout Paradise, I played it at a friend's house and really liked it, and wanted to buy it. Criterion sounds like an awesome developer putting out so much downloadable content at no cost, and I sincerely wanted to support them for that, and because Paradise did not sell too well. I went to GameStop because they are the most convenient retailer, despite my disgust for the way they operate I tell the guy behind the counter I want Burnout Paradise, he says "Oh, the only one we have left is a display copy." He walks over to the display counter with all the 360 games, pulls out the case for Burnout Paradise. Then he gets out a little paper disc holder with the game disc in it with a sticker that says new. He inserts the manual and then puts a ziploc like sticky bag over the package and greets me to the door. He said it was new and being the sucker I was, I believed him. I come home and open it up, and the disc has scuffs on it. Not unplayable scuffs, but still scuffs.
The primary incentive was to buy an awesome game, but I really bought the game new because I wanted to support Criterion. Now I feel as if I have just thrown money to the GameStop monopoly and just helped them continue to be the middle man. The sticky bag they initially put the game in is wrecked, and I don't think the employees working there will believe me if I try to return it just so I can go to Best Buy and get a truly sealed game and satisfy my supporting Criterion. What should I do?

A few years back I bought a "new copy" of Resident Evil 4 at Gamestop for the GC and when I got it I thought it was odd I they got out of a paper disc holder and into a case and sold it to me for full price. Got home checked the disc as I always do and sure enough it was scoffed and scratched the exact reason why I didnt buy a used copy. Since I have never bought new games at gamestop. RIPOFF ARTISTS!

This question is more for CheapyD
I've recently started hanging out with an Asian guy. We cruise the bars around campus regularly. Recently i've noticed that his tolerance for alcohol is very low. After about half a beer my friend is absolutley fuck'd up to the point where i have to drag him back to the apartment. He explained to me that he has the "Asian Flush," and when he drinks he becomes violently ill and red in the face. I was just wondering if maybe Mrs. Cheapy had this same affliction or anyone else you've come in contact with in Japan?
I've been catching up on past Cagcast episodes and listened to episode #105"CheapyD stinks." I too find showers to be overrated. Keep up the good work.
Also could you recommend a movie from netflix. I've watched all the movies you've recommened and been satisfied so far.

CheapyD,
Please help a fellow displaced Long Islander...
I recently moved to Seattle and have been having a hard time finding good New York style cuisine, especially a decent kosher deli. Last Sunday, I stumbled upon a so called kosher deli at Pike Place Market that the locals were just raving about. I decided to try a potato knish only to find out it was nothing more than mashed potatoes wrapped in Pillsbury crescent roll dough. What a f-ing disappointment!
I'm sure you have it even worse over in Tokyo so how do you cope with the lack of quality NY style food? Did you just give up, give in, or do you have Wombat ship food across the pond?
Please advise...

I agree on the whole douche-bag of the year thing. Not sure where it came from though. I just think there should be a slight bit of reservation on what Cheapy says. It doesn't have to be much but, is there anything he will not say?
I cannot d/l this podcast thought I can only play it "read only" style off the site otherwise I get a disconneccted link evry week now (no firewall). I Don't like that as I can skip ahead the other way (especially important to me as if I lose connection have to listen to it all over again).

Hey, Cheapy and Wombat.
To what extent do you guys install disc-based games to your 360 hard drive? I usually install whatever I'm currently playing through, as well as a couple of games I might jump into for a minute (COD4, Burnout Paradise). Once I'm done with a game for the most part, it gets uninstalled. Just wondering what your hard drive management looks like.
Also, I signed up for Netflix using the CAGcast referral and am loving the streaming instant queue stuff. Thanks!

Hey Cheapy and Wombat.
Do either of you watch Curb Your Enthusiasm? If not and you like selfish people who say whatever is on their mind and awkward situations, you should watch it!
As far as the whole Howard Stern discussion. When I heard him on the radio in the past, I never thought he was funny. Him saying stuff just to "shock" people got old fast. I thought I've heard of CAGcast as influenced by Howard Stern or something. I personally think you guys are 10 times funnier than Howard Stern.

Hey guys, great show this past week as always.
I write because I really wanted to vent about finding out (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2009/01/22/part-of-microsofts-gamerscore-blog-team-let-go/) about the loss of the Gamerscore Blog, Chris Paladino, and Nelson Rodriguez. I know that CheapyD already knows about what happened because of Twitter and will probably talk about it on the show, but I wanted to just say that I'm really pissed about this whole thing. I read GSB everyday on Google Reader, so I read CPaladino each day. Minor Nelson's and Natalie's show, Pick Up & Play, was the only show on Inside Xbox that was a "must watch" for me. I think Microsoft is really dropping the ball here, butchering up one of the main qualities that makes their console stand out: the community.
My best wishes go out to them and anyone else who is about to be laid off by MSFT. I hope that the next chance you get to talk to the duo dismissed from the Gamerscore Blog, that you let them know that CAGs will miss them. Also, I hope that you let the next person with influence at MSFT you see know that they blew it here and are pissing away their hard-earned "community cred".
P.S. Go Wombat!

In CAGcast 147, you discussed the advertising strategies of 1UP/EGM. Specifically, Wombat felt that there should have been more influence of the editorial staff on the advertising staff, leveraging good editorial opinions into parallal advertising.
It seems to me that it should go a step further. Hosting advertising on your site is an endorsement of the product being advertised. For example, the current ad above this page is for Progressive Insurance. If you knew Progressive was a shit company and run their ad anyway, I would see that as a deception. In a sense, you would be screwing over your clientbase for advertising money. In EGM/1UP's games, if a game sucks, they shouldn't advertise it. If a game is great, they should try and advertise for it more.
I have heard many people talk of a companies integrity for keeping editorial and advertising seperate. But I don't think that's integrity; I think its an easy copout. An editorial staff then can claim immunity from the customer's trust in the ads. A customer should be able to trust everything on the website, content and ads.
So as a website operator CheapyD, how do you feel about that? Should a visitor to CheapAssGamer expect to trust the ads on your site? Or should it simply be "buyer beware"?

Cheapy --
A while back, in one of the CAGcasts or maybe a live session, around the time of the Gerstmann/Gamespot controversy, I recall a discussion that gamers were drawn to the big, on-line gaming sites because of the site itself, and not necessarily the personalities associated with the site or the individual game reviewers.
With all that happened with 1Up and UGO, and the support the laid-off editors/writers are receiving, it seems that gamers actually care and are interested in the people and personalities behind the reviews and articles.
Maybe its the popularity of the podcasts and on-line videos that turned the tide. Because of the podcasts and videos, gamers can now associate faces and voices to the written game commentary -- in effect, gamers were able to get to know the people beyond the words -- what do you and Wombat think?

01-24-2009, 09:25 AM
I'm sorry, I never post to complain in these because I like the podcast, but Wombat's comments were in poor taste. The concept that advertisers can contact a company after a review is written does not work, because the reviewer then knows that such action is possible. A good review score suddenly becomes more valuable, and potentially job saving, when compared to a bad one, which can lead to another Gerstmann-like incident. Giving up one's integrity is a slippery slope (have we not learned this over the past 8 years as Americans?). I can honestly say that I have never looked at a gamespot review since then.
Also if you want some real games journalism may I suggest Seth Schiesel of the New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/24/arts/television/24vide.html?partner=permalink&exprod=permalink is his most recent article. He is not the only one doing real journalism, but one of my favorites.

Cheapy, I noticed an article today about Canon Japan giving workers mandatory time to leave work and spend time with their families two days a week. It is hoped that this policy will help combat Japan's declining birth rate, and that employees will have more children as they will have more family time. Given the extremely long hours Mrs. Cheapy works is there no hope for a second Cheapy child?
Here is the link just for reference. Canon sends workers home to be fruitful and multiply (http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/01/26/canon.babies/index.html).

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,
What are your thoughts on the burgeoning genre of games that aren't really challenging, but just focus on being fun, like A Kingdom for Keflings, flOw, Flower, and The Maw? Do you enjoy them more than you'd think and would you like to see more of these kinds of games in other genres?
I believe Cheapy mentioned a long time ago about being a fan of Katamari Damacy before the creator left and Namco wanted to keep it going, so I'm wondering if you're looking forward to Noby Noby Boy Boy, which will be out in February for $5 on PSN. It seems to keep that same kind of crazy vibe that Katamari had and for $5, there's not much risk in trying it out. Should more downloadable games be willing to go for the $5 price now that everything costs $10 whether it's worth it or not?

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,
A few weeks ago Cheapy shared a story of his stupid mistake, today I wanted to share mine. My wife and I have a subscription to Netflix and we alternate watching movies on the PS3 (blu-ray) and the 360 (dvd). Last week, we watched the animated film Flushed Away and the next day I ejected it from my PS3 and mailed it out.
The next day I pop a DVD into my 360 and realize that Flushed Away WAS STILL THERE. I stared in disbelief wondering what I did and what I sent back to Netflix. I realized that I shipped back Little Big Planet! So I thought to myself, I'll call Netflix and it'll be no big deal. I spoke to a nice lady on the phone and she said that since it's the weekend, they'll probably catch it on Monday.
Well they didn't. They shipped out the next movie, so I panicked and called again. They told me that I would have to wait two weeks for someone to report the disc as incorrect and mail it back. It's now 1 and a half week since I called and I haven't heard anything yet.
So yeah, that's my stupid mistake. My wife is pissed at me and I don't know if I'll get my game back. Netflix says they can't track the disc for me and the most they can reimburse me is $10. What a bummer...
Keep up the great work guys, love the show.

Hey Guys
I'm new to your show and website and couldn't be happier at what i've found. Fortunately i'm able to listen to the CAGcast at work so i've had a chance to delve into the repertoire. Anyway I do have a question amidst the blabber and that is,What compatibillity (if any) does the 360 have with regular USB heasets?
Also I played the RE5 demo and I must say I was not to impressed. Last night when I was playing the demo I found it to be frustating when it should have been fun and I couldn't help thinking about cheapy's call out on the flawed stop-and-shoot system. It's not realistic I were to be chased by running zomdies I would run, and I would shoot (maybe not well). It was very "Sega" of capcom not to get with the times.

Cheapy and Wombat,
Do you think that we will soon see the end of console exclusive games, with the exception of games made by Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony? It seems that more and more publishers and developers are now focusing on 360/PS3 releases unlike earlier in this console generation. It also seems to be more profitable for these companies to branch out onto more than one console.
Thanks.

Cheapy and Wombat,
What do you think about Sony's recent statement claiming that they purposely designed the PS3 as a hard machine to develop for so that games coming out in several years will be much much better than today’s games, thus giving them the advantage over the 360 in the long run? There seems to be some logic in what they are saying. If PS3 games really do start to shine two or three years from now and 360 games are basically unchanged, might we start seeing 360 fans jumping ship? Or do you think developers will stick with the easier platform and not bother trying to master the PS3? Will the PS3 end up being this decades Betamax?
What do you guys think?

With all the craziness surrounding this week's CAGcast and how Wombat's computer froze at the end of the show, and Cheapy's Facebook status saying that he should just edit it down to a one man podcast, I was wondering what goes into making the CAGcast each week. a question for wombat and cheapy about resident evil 5
since RE5 is now going to be primarily a coop experience, how exactly is that suppost to work? an action RPG isnt really something thats easily played in coop since its going to take maybe 20 hours to complete. if a person quits the game dosent that mean the other player has to wait for the other to return before continuing? or else one'll get ahead and the other is still 2 hours behind therefore having to play it seperately? what about weapons and money? im thinking this isnt going to be a real coop experience but more of a fable 2 gimped type experience where the second player just gets into the game but really dosent matter or gain anything from being the 2nd player. so how do you think the RE5 coop will work?

Dear Cheapy and Wombat,
I was playing Sonic Unleashed with my nephew and I thought the game was ok. However, I was wondering, why since the 16 bits days hasn't there been a Sega/Sonic console game that is on par with a Nintendo/Mario console game?
I cannot remember a Sonic console game over the past few generations that has lived up to the Sonic Genesis era games. Sonic Rush was excellent, but it was for the DS. Is it that difficult to develop a 3D Sonic console game because of the combination of speed and control needed? How can it be that this generation's Cell Processing cannot match the late 80's Blast Processing? Or, is Sonic simply a more fun experience in 2D?
Maybe Sega should just try and create high res, scrolling 2D games for the consoles and leave behind the idea of moving Sonic to a 3D gameplay world. Maybe try something like Capcom did with Street Fighter - a 3D environment with 2D gameplay. What do you think?

On an old CAGcast, you mentioned that you did not want to continue CAG Shovelware because you did not consider it new content that brought any additional traffic to the site.
My question is - would you ever allow CAGs to submit creative content for the site? I thought Shovelware was a great idea and would love to take a crack at it. I think features such as this DO benefit the site as it gives the community something to talk about and share with their friends around the internets.

Dear Cheapy and Wombat,
I found the first few hours of Mirror's Edge to be very enjoyable, but as the levels went on, the game grew increasingly more frustrating - even to the point where I had to spend more than thirty minutes on one fucking jump. This has totally soured me on the game and I feel bad about it because I enjoyed the first half so immensely. What games have there been that had one part or boss fight that was so unbelievably frustrating that for you that it caused you to despise the game - in particular, one you were enjoying up till that point?

This question is for Wombat, but Cheapy can chime in. You guys touched upon game "journalism" in the past two CAGcast. I know Wombat listens to various gaming podcasts and would like to know if he has heard this weeks Joystiq podcast, episode 083? At the 1 hour 7 minute mark they read a listener email from someone who puts into question their claim to being journalist and Chris Grant proceeds by calling him an ignorant moron and defends his self as a journalist. Although Chris Grant shows a lack of restraint and resorts to name calling, I found his reply strong. He used a book called "The Elements of Journalism" and began to state what the book puts forth as key factors of journalism and how Joystiq is in line with all these factors, thus solidifying them as journalist. What do you think about this response?

Cheapy and Wombat,
Hypothetically, if CAG never existed, do you think that gaming blogs and news sites would have nearly as many posts about video game deals as they do now? It's becoming increasingly obvious and more frequent that gaming sites are posting deals that were revealed on CAG. These sites of course do not give credit to their proper source (CAG) and it seems that they are beginning to abuse it.

Hey I have a question for CheapyD and Wombat.
Do you ever think that once the economy stabilizes we'll see less sequels and more original IPs as companies start to take risks. Or do you prefer sequels as long as they usually improve the already winning formula and add extra features or improve the graphics.
Out of last year what is your favourite new IP game? And Out of what's coming in 2009 what game that's NOT a sequel are you most excited for?

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,
Being in the CAG beta I've noticed that an awards system has been added to the CAG profiles. I have a couple questions about this;
1.) Why did you choose to make this addition?
2.) What kind of awards can we expect to acquire over the coming years?
3.) (similiar to question #2) Will a lot of the awards involve spending money on the site i.e. events like Child's Play Charity?
and
4.) Will awards be displayed under or near our Avatars on the forums?
This is a very cool feature, but dangerous for me considering I can be a bit of an Achievement whore on the 360 and I love CAG so much.
So far I'm lovin' the beta, the additional tabs are absolutely awesome and make everything very easy for navigating the site. Keep up the good work Super Programmer John.

Hey Wombat, you are falling into PETA's trap. I did some freelance web design for them a few years back, and i can tell you everything they do is designed to get free publicity.
They submitted a super bowl ad last year, but that one got rejected as well. They don't have the money for a super bowl ad, they just want the free publicity from being rejected. When i was working for them, their president was making something like 36k per year. I guarantee they will have an ad rejected next year as well.
Oh, and if you were to read this on the cagcast, you would be falling into their trap again :)

Take us through what life was like before your e-stardom, such as life after college, what jobs you held down, etc. Did you expect CAG to be as big as it is now, and did you expect to make a living off it?

Hey Cheapy and Wombat this is my first question to you, but I've been listening to the last 6 podcasts and lurking around the site a while. My question is, is there a way for non-donors to join the beta of the new CAG? I wasn't around where donations were being made, but I would love to test out the new features. Great podcast, been listening for very little, but it has grown to be one of my favorites.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,
So I heard your note about "what you you do to improve the next gen of consoles"
I've always thought that Microsoft made a big mistake by creating the xbox brand in the first place ( xbox is just a terrible name, almost anything would be better ), but I think they should have just bought the Atari trademark and released it as that.
With Microsoft seeing the success of the wii and casual gaming, should they now buy the rights to the Atari name and release it under that name, it has great brand recognition here in the US and it couldn't hurt them overseas either...
Would changing the name now hurt them more than it helped ? I think most people who own the xbox now are a more informed audience anyway who'd know that the next xbox was being released under the atari name... so I doubt they'd lose much dropping the xbox name. Atari have released some awful games lately, but again I think most people who own an xbox would be informed enough to know that there was no longer any connection there, and those who'd get a real buzz that it's an Atari probably wouldn't have played Atari's recent games anyway.

Hey guys. I was talking with some of my friends the other day about the HBO series "Real Sex" and how it helped us come of age. One of my buddies was telling us about an episode that took a deeper look into the Japanese porn scene. What stood out to him, was that in Japan they blur out the genitals of men and women in there porno videos. Is this true Cheapy D? And if so, why?? I like think of myself as a porn enthusiast and there isn't much that I haven't rubbed one out to, but blurred genitals might be the one thing I couldn't do. ALso, what are some of the other major differences between American and Japanese porn. Thanks again.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,
I was listening to a recent CAGCast when you guys were talking about Rock Band. Wombat was saying how he didn't feel any need to purchase Rock Band 2 and he felt he could skip it and pick up Rock Band 3. With Harmonix allowing you to transfer songs from the previous Rock Band into Rock Band 2 for only 5 dollars and no activation code required, what is the incentive to buy a new Rock Band when I can get all of the songs for $5? Do you think Harmonix will keep allowing customers to do this?
If they will allow this, I'm waiting for Rock Band 4 to upgrade from the original and get near 160 songs for $10. Will this affect potential sales if people catch on, or is Rock Band just so big only a few other CAGs and me will actually care about this? What do you guys think?

Hey guys,
What do you think the physical appearances of the next generation of consoles will be like? What improvements would you like to see? In addition, how important will physical appearances be in terms of sales for the console? It seems that in countries such as Japan, people tend to lean towards small, slim consoles like the Wii rather than the bulky 360.

1) Why no more CAG's on news theme song, I miss it.

Cheapy and Wombat,
Sorry for beating a dead horse, but are you sure everything is cool between you and the entire Kotaku staff, including Crecente? This last Sunday they made their traditional deals post and went to the length of linking to Cheap College Gamer talking about how there's been so many deals with the 1 year Gold cards for $30.
I made a comment calling them out about it (same username as here) and one of the responders said this Cheap College Gamer site has 25 registered users, only the admin makes posts, and pretty much everything on there is a rip from CAG.
Maybe you need to approach more of the Kotaku staff instead of just Crecente. It just sucks to see all the work you and the users here go unrecognized by the largest gaming blog in the world.
Wombat if you're at an event with some of these guys maybe you could approach them also as Cheapy would only get to see them in person at E3, TGS, and maybe GDC.
hey Wombat, how was NY Comic-Con? Did you find your rare Mighty Muggs? :)

Hey guys, I have a few questions for this week. First one is for Cheapy. You don't have to answer this one if you don't want to but now that it is tax season I was wondering how you have to pay taxes since your income comes mainly from the site that is based in the us and you get paid in USD? Obvioulsy you have bank accounts in japan and such have to pay taxes there but just curious about how you deal with your main source of income. This question is for you Wombat. With all of your stories you were clearly much more of a pimp in college than Cheapy. How does that make you feel? As always you guys put on a excellent show despite how busy you both are. Keep doing what you do and I hope you two do this till your in your 90s. :P

This has nothing to do with the CAGcast, but I'd like your guys opinion on this problem I have.
I wanna take this girl to the prom as a friend because her boyfriend doesn't want to take her. Me and her boyfriend are friends so I ask him if it was ok with him, then he decides he wanted to take her, and is upset by the fact that she actually has to decide to go with me or her boyfriend.
What should I do?
(please don't say stick it in her pooper.)
Cheapy,
I have a question for you about 3 on 3 NHL Arcade. I, like you, was skeptical about this game and ended picking it up anyway. While I have to say it is a fun way to burn ten minutes, I can't help but feel kind of cheated a little bit. I have found that this game is hard, as in, I haven't won a game yet on the easy difficulty setting hard. I have usually been pretty good at hockey games, and was surprised to discover that it wasn't my skill level that was hindering me from winning a game. The game doesn't come with a way to see all of the controls. It gives you the basics: shoot, pass, move player, and trick shot, but I recently discovered that the right stick allows you to perform a deke, which the game neglects to tell you. I am sure that there is a turbo button mapped somewhere as well because I always seem to get out skated by the other team when I am on defense. So Cheapy, I was wondering how you feel about this. Shouldn't we, as gamers, be entitled to proper manuals for these downloadable games?
Thanks guys, keep up the great work on the show.
-B-Leg
PS- Cheapy if you do happen to know the rest of the hidden controls, it would be greatly appreciated if you could tell me.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,
Do you guys have any history of gaming on the PC? Would you consider playing games on the PC now? When my 360 got the RROD, I actually went back to playing PC games. I used to play Counter-Strike religiously before the 360 came along and now I find myself back in front of the monitor playing games like Team Fortress 2. I know both of you have iMacs, as do I (previous gen), but with Boot Camp you can partition your hard drive to install Windows. I think PC gaming is something you guys can strongly reconsider as the graphics may be better, along with the frame rate being smoother, and of course-- games being cheaper (especially with all these great Steam Weekend Sales).
Even with my 360 back, I rarely turn it on.
And since we're in the subject of PCs, hows that Acer Aspire One, Cheapy? Is it collecting dust beside your DSi?

How do you guys feel bout Apple making a true handheld gaming device?
[ I personally would like to see them do it because the iphone accomplishes all that the psp was supposed to be. The only thing that's missing is the dedication to gaming - (hardware - wise) ]
Would the PSP be as pirated if Sony would have made apps (like Apple has for the iphone) for the device?
[looking at psp homebrew, the homebrew community supported the psp, more than Sony did, the homebrew community were making apps for the console, but of course there're those who used the homebrew for piracy]
Cheapy D / Wombat - What genre would you like to see more titles for? And.. is their a particular genre that you feel may be lacking quality titles at this time? [ex. myself, I'd like to see more 2d beat em ups, (Bemups) be released, or re released.]

Cheapy,
A few months ago, my parents got one of the electronic bidets that are, as you know, common in Japan. Then they got one for my wife and I for Christmas. Though skeptical at first, I had been acquainted with this amazing ass-cleansing technology thanks to your discussion of it on the show, your YouTube video, and some recent news items. We’ve been using it for about a month and a half now and are hooked.
My questions are these: What was your first reaction when confronted with this technology? What about your parents or other Western visitors? When people visit either our bathroom or my parents’, they laugh and look at us like we’re freaks and sometimes refuse to use the toilet.

On Sky channel 516 there is a station called "NHK World TV". A complete channel about japanese culture, life, history, what people think about Japan (living and moving). On average the channel is pretty bad with lame ass acting/shows that try way to hard to impress people.
But this got me thinking; you should get in touch with the channel. You could talking about the move to Japan how it changed your life, what you like/dislike etc etc. You could even talk about your internet space pimpary and share it with the world!

Dear Cheapy,
I was recently listening to the new Rebel FM podcast Episode 5, and one of their guests, I believer her name was "Kat"?, who apparently lived in Japan for some time said that she never played any instrument based music game until recently because it was impossible for her to play music games particularly instrument based ones. She said that it was just to loud and would disturb her neighbors. She cited Guitar Hero as being one of these games, but this seems like a bit of an exaggeration since a plastic guitar on its own really does not make that much noise. Would you say that you agree with her reason for having never played any music game in Japan?

CheapyD & Wombat,
Do you think the current generation of consoles is destroying the PC genre? It seems a lot of PC gamers (like myself) have gone the way of consoles for gaming now.
I only ask this because the PC section at my local Gamestop keeps shrinking and shrinking every time I go in.
Or do you think PC killed its own market by putting so much copy protection like Securom and DRMs on their games.
I know some games only allow you to install the game only a few times, like Spore, after that, the game becomes a useless coaster. Not to mention PC games have no resale value anymore and Gamestop doesn't even take them as trade-ins anymore.
Do you think consoles are swallowing the PC gaming market? Or do you think PC copy protection is actually driving people away from PC gaming?
I've been listening to the show for a while and wonder if you keep track of how many people actually just click play on the front page? I never download the show and just click play.

Hello there CheapyD and Wombat,
I have a couple questions for both of you and here they are:
Have any of you guys played RPG computer games such as RuneScape, World of Warcraft, etc?
Since their are a lot of instrument games (EX, Rock band, Guitar Hero etc.) and they cost a decent amount of money and that too they come out every year, do you believe that these types of games will eventually take over this and the next generation of gaming???
And my last but never least question
How and when did you two first meet? And who's idea was it too start Cheap Ass Gamer??
Thank you, Cheapy and Wombat,

Is there any way a "CAG Only" feature similar to *spoiler* can implemented into the new site system for member only viewing?
There seems to be alot of CAG members who are getting mad about lurkers stealing free posted codes such as 48 hour LIVE trials, 1 months, & 100 points code giveaways.
It would help kill lurking in posts & help to get new members when access to certain content is locked for guests. Plus, for example if you wanted the CAG - Play Insight Survey/ Amazon GC Giveaway contest link to be for members only you could do so only allowing the link to be clickable by site members.

A silver lining for every economic cloud.
Agree or disagree:
1.) Less money floating around these days makes gaming more fun and less bitchy. People who buy games aren't going to be able to just breeze through them, piss & moan about every little thing they don't like, and discard them for their next quick fix. When you have less money to spend you are more appreciative of what you can buy with that money.
2.) With big companies clamping down on their spending, likely limiting their output, it gives smaller developers a chance to jump in and get a foothold in the market with cheaper, unique, independent games.

So why don't you guys break out of the standard and start talking about the new audience... The school audience. Love the show. Your unyielding servent supermidget.
Majority of gamers are in the 20's age range, and we don't call that "school" audience, it is called mainstream.
Anyways, Wombat, nice interview and all, but you need to relax a bit more. You seemed fake and too energetic, no offense, just constructive criticism.

Hey Cheapy,
with the whole Circuit City vs. Speedy thing in the dust, it reminded me of the crazy Japanese dude who wanted your address so he could sue you. If I recall correctly it was over the CAG 2.0 redesign. You never mentioned if anything ever came from that (I'm guess not). Did he eventually just stop harassing you?

A while back, Stephen Totilo got bashed on the NeoGAF forums for not being any good at Street Fighter 2 (http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/01/06/must-your-game-journalists-not-stink-at-street-fighter/). The argument was that a game journalist should be good at games of all genres. That is like expecting all football journalists to be good at playing football, which is rediculous. CheapyD and Wombat, what skill level, if any, would you like the people who cover video games to have with games?
