Hey Cheapy and Wombat- I've started listening to the RebelFM podcast after listening to Nick Suttner's interview with you guys and while its understandable that they are in need of cash to eat and such, their talk of charging a subscription fee to download doesn't seem right to me. The number of successful podcasts that use that model are very small and are failing more and more each day, or going free. Since your podcast is more of a support media for CAG rather than your main feature, its probably not in your best interest to charge, but what do you think about the pay-to-listen podcast model when there are so many other options to monetize a podcast?

The Wii is not a bad console and I think it get's a bad rap. The problem with the wii is that is just does not have the games that many of today's gamers are looking for.

I'm 30. I grew up with Atari, Nintendo and the like. I can remember when Pitfall was a revolutionary game. Or Pac Man for that matter. But while gaming was about graphics and still is, a true gamer was based on the excitement of the overall product. You played a game based solely on the whole composition of the game, not just how great the graphics are.

While the PS3 has excellent graphics, best of all, why is it doing so poorly? There is a huge lack of 3rd party support, and an entirely too inflated price point. The X-Box is probably the top of the 3. You get everything you could want in one package. Then there is the Wii. When has Nintendo really done anything on the safe side? They have always ruined their 3rd party support and always presented a product that while it may not be cutting edge, ie 64, GC and Wii, it was always something that appeals to a larger market and fan base than just 2 markets.

A true player in the Console market is a console that can appeal to the masses. SO why the hard knocks? Because you can't find a shooter that looks even more realistic? I will grant the whole issue of lacking better games.

So why do you guys knock the Wii so much?

I would rather be playing a 360, but when you have 2 little kids, one teen and a woman who "doesn't understand what you like" about video games it's just not in the cards at this point. Once your married, you all know you must bow to the true Master of the House.

Hey Cheapy & Wombat, what is your guys' opinion on the ridiculous amount of money Hard drives still cost for Xbox 360? Seriously, you can get a 120 gb hard drive for $140 (not even going to compare it an off the shelf notebook drive) OR you could buy an entire Xbox 360 system WITH 60 gb hdd, wireless controller, a few games, headset and av cable for $100 more?! I'm an Xbox 360 owner and I'm not bashing, I just can't comprehend how MS gets off justifying this cost for an upgrade...

Cheapy, what are you using for a joystick for Street Fighter IV? and are you playing it on 360 or PS3? Wombat can answer that too, but I assumed he doesn't care too much about Street Fighter, when he called T-Hawk "T-Wolf".

Lastly, now that Street Fighter IV and Killzone 2 are both here, I don't think there are any new games to get excited about until next Christmas. Can you think of any?

After listening to CAG 150 I have now realized that episodes with Shipwreck on are slowly becoming my favourite. He doesn't talk as much as you too but its nice having him on and the three of you work well.

Now I have mentioned this a couple of times to members on here but now I am going to pursue it until it becomes a reality. Every month or so there should be a "Super CAG Cast" where the Shipwrecks join the show. I understand its a tad harder to record with more than two people, and it adds more time on mixing the show but I think it'll be a great addition. Surely over skype Cheapy and Wombat record themselves then the Ships can share a mic.

Just an idea, keep up the good work.

Hi guys, I just noticed that there's a game collection page in the profiles. Will you be enabling a CSV upload for people to update their collections? That would make it so much easier, since I use Gamepedia and can get a CSV, among other formats, from that.
Also, have you ever used Gamepedia or something similar? I freaking love it. It makes keeping track of my stuff easy, is very customizable, and even has statistics. Neat! :)

It seems as if Seth Killian from Capcom is use to imbelishing things. On the Top Secret Bionic Commanda podcast, file 28, Seth is asked if the Boss of SF IV was named after him and he said that yes, according to the producer Ono son he is. But on podcast 32, the assistant producer David Crislip explained that he was named Seth because Seth is the name of Kane and Abel's obscure brother. They were gonna name him Kane but this boss name was already in Mark Of The Wolves. Keep in mind that after David says this he says that the added factor that Seth worked at Capcom and was huge into Street Fighter was an added bonus to the name.

So Seth, give credit where credit is due.

Hey guys,

Is the DSi this generation's version of the GameBoy Micro? Both were higher priced versions of their own generation's handhelds but with few differences. Also, is keeping the DS Lite around alongside the DSi a bad decision in a bad economy where people are looking for less expensive things, especially when there aren't many people looking to play portable games who don't already have a DS system of some kind? I'm personally predicting disappointment in Nintendo's eyes.

Now that Rock Band Unplugged is being developed for the PSP, does this satisfy your desire for a Frequency/Amplitude game? A recent post on Joystiq/Primotech suggests that the game plays just like the two previously mentioned games. My question for you about this game is, would you prefer the typical rock songs like those found in Rock Band or would you rather have seen a game with more pop/techno oriented songs like the ones found in Frequency and Amplitude?

Ok, I was listening to ep 150, and here's my question. Referring to Wombat's rant about there being so few PS3 games that sold over 2 million, it got me thinking about the pressure companies and publishers put on making such a big splash on release day and release week on the sales chart, and not focusing on a game's longevity. Wombat, you like to tout your game analyst abilities, riddle me this.....how could a company market a game to sell over time, like so many first party Nintendo titles sell? What could a game company do? Does Valve have the only answer with titles and support like TF2 and L4D, or is there more? Personally, I never buy games at launch, I only pre-ordered one game last year, but I made TONS of $10 purchases last year for great PC titles, many of which were collector's editions, also Crysis Collector's Ed. for $20. It seems all of the effort is lost on making a big release week splash, when games that blow out like Gears and Halo 3 are really really few and far between. Love to hear your thoughts, good show guys, always enjoy hearing Ship on th cast.

I just got done renting sf iv on the PS3 and I had the same connection issues that cheapy reported on episode 151. Personally I feel that this is the biggest week upcoming with killzone 2 out on Friday. MLB 09 the show, halo wars next week are what is on my radar to pick up. Other games like hawx and sonic are solid gamefly rentals for me that I look forward to. After this I only have re5 on my radar of other games to play till the summer. Thanks for the heads up for little big planet for psp. My 5 year old is the biggest lbp player in our house and loves the online content. I guess we shall see more content as the year progresses dependin on the features of multiplayer I might be buying a psp for the kids because of the enjoyment they have in this game but I find it is critical to have user made levels. Another excellent show. Gotta love xbox vista, very appropriate name.

Hey guys Nick Suttner coming on your show turned me on to you guys and I haven't missed an episode since. I would speak to your issues with the 360 Dashboard. I am not sure why you guys are having such latency issues with the 360 UI. I have not had anything close to the experience you two talk about. Rarely it freezes and I have to shut it off and back on but no where near the 45 second latency when trying to just open your friends list. In fact it has been faster for me than the old interface. May it be due to my geographic position in comparison to Microsoft? I wouldn't think so since isn't all that dashboard crap just on the hard drive of the 360? One final thing, you know if you push the center button on the controller the old style blades come up and for me at least they are significantly snappier than the rest of the dashboard and are less polluted with a bunch of shit I'd rather not look at. My main issue is there is all that advertisement bullshit on the Dashboard yet it still costs me 50 dollars a year. Ads should equal free. I don't care how much better it is than Sony or Nintendo's online. This would never happen, but I think it would be cool to make it like "igoogle." Being able to have that much control over what you see when you turn the 360 on would be amazing. But I can't expect that from a company whose motto is not, "Don't be evil." Love the show, and your chemistry. Hope the kids are doing well!

Being a huge fan of the show, I pumped up the volume on my PC while going to the can so I could hear the CAGCast while releasing some bodily functions. I was listening to show #76, where you mention meeting Scrubs actor Donald Faison. I actually got off of the toilet so I could hear this story better, my farts were just getting too loud. Having seen every episode of Scrubs numerous times, I practically had an orgasm when you said Donald Faison put his arm around you.
In my opinion, the last 2 seasons of the show were not that very good, but the new season isn't half bad. Do you still watch every episode of the show? If so, what do you think of the recent episodes?

I was thinking about your response to the value of street fighter 4 on the last cagcast. I would argue that for non-hardcore fighting game fans, the game probably has more value now than it ever will in the future. This is because the level of competition now is varied whereas it will probably be only very high level players in a few months.

This leads to my question - about 1-2 months after a games release, the multiplayer is either 1) devoid of players or 2) impossible because the number of high level players. So, how much does multiplayer really add to a game's value if you buy it a few months after release?

What did you guys think of the acting/casting in the Watchmen? The actress who played Laurie was awful. I mean, I know she wasn't cast for her acting prowess since the movie includes multiple nude scenes but come on. I'm willing to give up a little bit of "hotness" for some better acting. The scene where she's trying to convince Jon to save the world is laugh-out-loud bad. Ozymandias looked too weird to take serious. The Comedian and Rorschach proved that you don't need big names for great acting. It's too bad the other actors couldn't follow suit.

I also have a 120 GB HDD and the new dashboard runs like shit on my 360. Mine is two years old as well. Yes, the new blades run fine, however when it has anything to do with my friends list, it runs incredibly slow. For instance, when I accept game invites, it takes literally 30 seconds for it to load and show the invite and then another 30 for the acceptance to go through and get in the game. It doesn't happen all the time, but it's frequent enough to be called a problem. Many of my friends experience the same problem.

What did you guys think of the acting/casting in the Watchmen? The actress who played Laurie was awful. I mean, I know she wasn't cast for her acting prowess since the movie includes multiple nude scenes but come on. I'm willing to give up a little bit of "hotness" for some better acting. The scene where she's trying to convince Jon to save the world is laugh-out-loud bad. Ozymandias looked too weird to take serious. The Comedian and Rorschach proved that you don't need big names for great acting. It's too bad the other actors couldn't follow suit.

I've had my 360 for about 3 weeks now, (2nd actually, got RROD on the 3rd day and only played for about 4 hours total.) I started with the original UI and enjoyed it. (Had it for 2 days) it was quick and quite functional. The new XBE is slow, they removed some functionality somehow as well. It just does not seem like it's even remotely passable as a resonable UI. It seem ruining what was already a good thing.

With the 60 gb HDD and nothing really on it yet, it is still slow. I wish I could drop back to the original as this one is pointless. Plus certain things just seem to be hidden! (Seems like it) As I sit here with my laptop with my lovely Vista UI i can only come to one real conclusion...

Microsoft has begun smoking crack. It's the only logical explanation. If it were pot atleast I could understand then. (But don't we all get better ideas? I do.

i think that would be a problem if there was an online global leaderboard. Instead BP has two leaderboards.. you can go offline and see only your times/scores or online with only your friends times/scores. If I get tired of seeing KingBroly's scores all over the places I can at least turn off online and still set records against the computer/default.

I know you said he is a super nice guy, but saying that the casual Wii owner is not "sophisticated" enough to appreciate a game like Gears of War, it makes it sound like we hardcore gamers are above them and snooty. 1) I happened to randomly join into a game of Killzone 2 that Cheapy was also in and thought that it was cool/rare to *bump* into someone in an online game that isn't on your friends list. Have you guys ever *bumped* into someone randomly in on online game? If so, who was it and what game.

2) Cheapy, when you are playing an online game with someone in the states, how good is the connection that you get. I have noticed that whenever I player a game that is hosted by someone in Eroupe, the ping is insanely high. Is the internet in Japan that much faster that you don't experience any lag?

Just wanted to offer a quick thought on a topic discussed during episode 152. Specifically, you guys were talking about the possible legal ramifications of identifying M rated and other games as unhealthy or dangerous. During the discussion, you acknowledged not being a 'legal expert' but it certainly seemed to you that there should be some legal recourse available to game designers in light of these types of comments. I thought I'd offer my two cents on the topic.

In my opinion I owe you one because I'm a 34 year old litigator (from NJ) with a 2 1/2 year old. My wife is about as big of a video game supporter as I am a supporter of the lame twighlight book series that she reads. That said, because this site has enabled me to get so much for free, I have been 'permitted' to continue buying games for myself. In return I offer the following legal opinion, and please remember it is just my opinion.

The best legal remedy I can concoct would be a claim for tortious interference with a contract relationship. That is, the designers/studios could claim that the negligent and irresponsible statements directly and negatively impacted their contractual relationship with retailers who place orders for games based on the projected number of sales of any given game. Again, this is not the most incredible legal argument I've ever heard, but it would certainly meet the legal threshold level necessary to survive any pre trial motions for dismissal so long as the retailers orders were reduced after the comments were made. Hey Cheapy and Wombat, In regards to the Hasbro game for the Wii I have played it with my girlfriends grandparents. So yes it is for that casual crowd. But the reason is for buying it was the value price and instead by carrying all the physcial games around the grandparents and grandchildren could all play what they wanted and switch fast. I did try it and while I don't think its worth the money it is along the same lines of how some gamers like shooters to sports to puzzle games, except this is how to waste your money section.

I'm sure this can't be an original thought, but has anyone thought about petitioning Microsoft to make it so that fee-based downloadable content can't be released for a game within 6 months of the games release date. This way, if a game publisher actually did choose to hold back content, this would have a direct impact on how well the game does during its initial release, and the company would pay more for holding back the content then they would profit for it on the marketplace.

The way the system is setup now, the developers know that the initial list price of the game is going to be $60. So in their mind, instead of giving the gamer value for his gaming dollar, it boils down to how much additional content they can generate past the $60 mark on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

The developers aren't going to stop abusing the system as long as the system is in place. It's Microsoft's responsibility to regulate the marketplace. I'd like to see the spotlight shined on Microsoft, and how they allow for these practices to continue. With a simple Marketplace patch, they could stop the entire situation overnight.

I do agree with you both. The developers holding out on content for $$$ later on has gone too far. I just feel the attention should be focused on Microsoft and their system which encourages this behavior.

We all know how Microsoft likes you to buy blocks of odd numbers of xbox points so that you have some left after you buy a game, but not enough to buy something else, so you buy more points, but I think they have this backwards! I am put off buying games because I have to buy more points than I need, and I'm sure I'm not alone! Recently I wanted to buy Braid when it was on sale, but I couldn't just buy the points I needed, so it made Braid seem like a 2100 point cost to me! I've got some X3's. I'd say they're pretty decent. Sound quality is pretty good and the wireless works well (just don't let anything get in the way of the IR sensor; I think the X4's wireless works the same way). Mic is great and a definite improvement over the stock 360 one. I'd say they're worth about $50 or so, if you can get them for that cheap.

They won't compare to the X4's in terms of sound quality though, that's for sure. They're just normal (wireless) stereo headphones.

Dear CAG,

On March 17th, Hernan **** bought from me a copy of Midnight Club: Los Angeles (xbox 360 videogame). He paid for long shipping. I was nice enough to get it to him within 2 days. I have attached the three conversations I had with the buyer. This is completely ridiculous. I packaged it properly and made sure to mark it is as fragile. The day the buyer received the game he told me that the box is cracked. I apologized and told him it's not a big deal because the game is still in perfect condition. Also, the carrier was at fault not me. I told him you can get a free box at any video store near him. I also contacted him and offered to send him a new free box. He did not reply. He asked me for a return address. I told him to do return to sender and that the address should be ***********************. It has been 9 days. He filed an A-Z claim and he won it. A couple days passed, I asked him if he sent the game back using return to sender. He said that he was not going to send it back and thanked me for the free game. Now I am out about forty dollars and a videogame. I demand that something is done about this because this is really ridiculous. I can basically go buy a bunch of used videogames on amazon, say they came damaged and get my money back and keep the game. How great is that!

The big controversy here is the DLC. I agree with you guys and really am disappointed with Capcom and others for doing what they are. Personally in this instance I believe the price of the game should be lowered to offset the pricec of the DLC which in turn can increase revenue as well.

It’s no secret that the companies didn’t want to deliver backwards compatibility this current generation and they pretty much only did it due to pressure. Now both Microsoft and Sony have pretty much given up on it for this gen and looks like they probably won’t have it next gen.

So with all the issues with the 360 RROD, E74, etc. do you think Microsoft will almost be forced into it doing it with the “Xbox 720” due to all the quality issues? I love the fact that I can still play my NES and SNES to this day and they are launch systems. I did have to put a new 72pin into the NES though. I doubt that 20+ years later I will still be able to play Fable 2 on my 360.

Also, what are your favorite beers? Cheapy, can you recommend any Japanese beers for me to try?

What do you guys think of Capcom charging $14.99 for Flock, which is their new downloadable game for XBLA and PSN? It's a new IP that Capcom hasn't really made a big deal about at all and the features don't really make it seem like it's a premium game. Street Fighter HD Remix could get away with it because of the name recognition and the huge amount of hype behind its release, but Flock doesn't have any of that going for it.

I have to admit that I was very sad to hear that you guys might not have anymore live shows. I really enjoyed being immortalized in one of the live shows that you guys had (even played it for my wife!) But anyway here's my idea, how about finding a way to let people ask questions online, by recording their message/question and you just play their questions/message on the show. Its not live, but you still get people's voices in, and it still feels kinda live. I heard another podcast doing that, and I felt like it would be a good addition for the show.


2 or 3 shows ago, Cheap D, and Wombat - You two Basically demonized Capcom for charging 4.99 for their Multiplayer portion of their game Resident Evil. [and I agreed with you!] However, Microsoft charges an estimate of about 50 dollars a year, about 4 dollars a month for xbox live (maybe cheaper with deals). I think that MS charging for Live is essentially the same as Capcom charging you for Multiplayer because if you do NOT pay the Xbox Live fee, you will NOT have access to your Xbox 360 game(s) online component. Most Xbox games do have online features to them and you take someone who has a collection of 10-20 games, he/she stops paying for live and now they are no longer able to access any Multiplayer at all, on any 360 game that they own. I know the XBL service is great, and worth the money, but I can't help but feel like its a grand scheme by MS to make people who on 360 games regurgitate money on a yearly or monthly basis. I just want to get your thoughts on this issue.


Did Nintendo drop the ball by releasing "DSi"ware rather than just releasing "DS"ware that would be compatible with All DS units? Both the DS and DSi have online capability... so I don't understand why Nintendo choose to shut the DS out of its new downloadable games/apps store..thus closing the door on millions of DS owners who are all potential customers of any games/apps that's available online.

2 questions about Force Unleashed (which I know Wombat has, and I think Cheapy does...)

1) Wombat - I thought you weren't going to buy it in order to support the Developers who were laid off. Change of heart?

2) I don't think the game is fun. It might be worth 10 bucks as a Star Wars story, but I've definitely played XBLA games that are more fun (Bionic Commando Rearmed, Castle Crashers, N+, Peggle, even Braid). I'm already looking forward to beating it and trading it in before it loses any more trade value. I may turn down the difficulty to do this faster.

I'm an older gamer and do not have many xbox live friends. Can you tell me if I will enjoy Resident Evil 5 playing single player without co-op? I would most likely play the entire game single and have the computer control the second character.

Many of the forums are mixed on this subject and since Wombat seems to have my philosophy on playing....a little slower and not as twitchy as all the 8 year olds playing Halo 3, I am interested in your thoughts.

Keep up the great work. Your podcasts rock not because of your conversations about games, but all the conversations not about games and the ones which focus on your personal life.

My question concerns a movie soon to be released in the US that seems to be based on CheapyD's life. The movie is called Dai-Nipponjin, translated as Big Man Japan and here is the synopsis: "A middle-aged slacker living in a rundown, graffiti-ridden slum, Daisato's job involves being shocked by bolts of electricity that transform him into a stocky, stick-wielding giant several stories high who is entrusted with defending Japan from a host of bizarre monsters. Cheapy, I 100% agree with you: Dark Sector is way more fun to play than the over hyped RE5 and I too recommend it to anyone who had not already played it. It's a shame so many gamers seemed to have missed out on this great title.

BTW, Wombat, don't you find the AI in RE5 completely lame? Aside from the zombies now on motorcycles and driving big rigs and serioulsy dumb, Sheva never has any ammo and refuses to use her stash of hand gernades. The game is fine but in no way is worth $60.00 or the hype.

Dear CheapyD and Wombat,

I just started listening to the CAGcast a month or two ago, I started with episode 151. I loved it so much I decided to go through and listen to ALL of them! I just reached the episode where you two and Shipwreck went over the games you all played in 2008.

Mirror's Edge had not been played by any of you, you mentioned you didn't think it would be worth $60 and would wait until it was cheaper. I've also been waiting to pick it up and lately I've been seeing a ton of deals for it!

Do either of you have plans to grab it soon? I've wanted to grab it for a while but just keep forgetting. But it looks like I'll be able to snag it real cheap soon. Thanks for keeping me so entertained!

Hey cheapy, in your favorite game ever saints row 2 8-) that the Ultor corporation is the same corporation that colonized mars in red faction, so that means that red faction and saints row are in the same universe, how does this make you feel, and does it make you want red faction guerilla any more than before??? :D

p.s. some of the best marijuana apparently grows in the northern mountains of japan where it grows wild, thought you might be interested.

.....HEY CheappyD....Just curious did you tried out the series, I suggested you the 4400 it is a concept that Heroes stole from IMHO, it's about a group of 4400 abducted from different times and periods...returned to Earth at the same time and place.The thing is they returned to Earth without aging, just like the way they were abducted.And they return to Earth with superhuman abilities...give it a try.I've never tried watching Heroes, cause it kinda upset me cause the 4400 was such a great show, that never caught in the ratings and only lasted 3 seasons, give it a try!

Love the CagCast, as always, it is the best GAMING PODCAST I listen to!

I was browsing around PlayAsia.com when I noticed that each game page has a 2D barcode on it, similar to the one below. After some research, I find that these codes are called QR Codes, and are quite common in Japan. Users of certain cameraphones can scan these codes and their phone will link them to a webpage.

My question is, how often do you come across QR Codes, and have you ever tried to use one? If you do, do they link to multi-lingual resources?

Been listneing for a month or so, love the show. I think I remember you guys mentioning you each have a GameFly account and I know you've been talking about game trade-ins such as with Toys-R-Us and Amazon. What do you think of the new service GameFly is offering with the ability to mail in games for GameFly credits which can used used to purcahse games from them? The only problem I can think of is that the games you could buy from them would be used, but obviously that means they're cheaper in price.

You mentioned how cool the "Behind the bullet" PSN download was because it let you get a taste of what went into making it and the game. I personally am really interested in all the ins and outs of what goes into creating titles too. I look checking out story boards, concept art, then comparing to them to the final product, and so on. I even got to see it first hand after visiting a local developer working on an upcoming release recently.

I just wonder, to you, (and Cheapy D too, If he is interested in the development side of video games) does that take away the "magic" when you look behind the curtain, or does it just make you appreciate it more?

Hey Cheapy 'n Wombat,

Capcom recently announced that they will be giving Street Fighter IV free "Championship Mode" DLC on April 24th. This can hardly be considered DLC as it is more of a patch and wouldn't be logical to sell in the first place. I'm curious about your opinions of Capcom labeling this as "DLC" and not a patch.
