I'm going to be studying abroad at Temple in Tokyo this fall and I'm a fan of food, specifically Japanese food. I'm unfortunately stuck in dorms even though I've avoided them my whole college career so far and given they're about 40 minutes away I won't be stopping at home for lunch and possibly dinner on occasion. Do you know and good / cheap eats in the Minato area?

Also, could you send me a lead on a hidden gem in Tokyo? Cool little shop, hidden park, unique restaurant, ect. I know there must be a ton, but if I could get a CheapyD pick of the week so to speak that would be fantastic. Something to get me started.

I think it would be a great idea. I have been away from internet access for the last week (I got married in the Poconos!!). I am trying to catch up on gaming news and rather than surveying each news site for past posts, I just went to Neo-gaf knowing that any huge gaming news I may have missed will have its own thread, probably on the first page. I'm a gamer from the UK and the inside xbox over here has a weekly "Monday Musing" segment where someone from the community writes a paragraph or two about anything game related, and their gamertag is linked to in much the same way as Wombat's was. I wrote one about a month ago about buying used games and I have to say, I got pretty much the same response as Wombat did, showing that angry videogame nerds are just as viscious on this sideof the pond too.

Do you think the various games being delayed and forced into next year will benefit from that push? I have a feeling that these games will actually catch the attention of more people by not becoming lost in all of the holiday confusion. The original Bioshock proved that games released in the middle of the year can be very successful and refreshing for gamers during the Summer drought. Do you guys feel that games such as Bioshock 2 will be more successful and enjoyable without having to be rushed through during the holiday months?

Cheapy: What are your TV viewing habits like in Japan? Do you watch any Japanese TV shows even though you (supposedly)can't speak the language that well?

Both: What are your thoughts on the XBLA upgraded re-release of the PS1-era top-down shooter, Raystorm (http://www.destructoid.com/rumor-ish-raystorm-hd-headed-for-xbla-143228.phtml)? Have you even played the original version?

Both: Would you two ever consider doing an full-length, off-topic, non-gaming related episode of the CAGcast? It seems like the off-topic discussion you guys do at the beginning of the show is the high point for each episode.

And finally: Could you move the CAGbag to the beginning or middle of the show instead of the end? By the time you guys get to it, both of you have lost interest in the show entirely and are ready to call it a day/night after only a hand full of questions. Drunken Gamers Radio starts their show off with the mailbag and that format works surprisingly well.

Bobby Kotick must be stopped! Did you guys hear his latest comment on raising game prices even more if he could?! I mean yeah its his job to bring profit to Activision, but come on this is the guy who actually coined the term "annualization" and is trying to "monetize" COD and is also releasing a million Guitar Hero games a year and as many peripherals. Not to mention this is the guy who's making 15 million dollars a year! This kind of thing in my opinion will ultimately just hurt the industry. I hope his boat, which runs on diamonds, capsizes.

I was just wondering if there was a moment in a game, recent or otherwise, that made you put the game away and never pick it up again.

I recently just played Ghostbusters, and aside from the constant dicktease of never hearing Ray Parker, Jr.'s dulcet tones, there was a part that I just couldn't get past. I played all the way through the game and in the cemetary at the end, the goddamed flying angels ended the game for me. I must have tried 20 times to get through this part.

I packed it in its case and put it back on the shelf. Quite a shame, because I really enjoyed my experience with the game. Good story and fun humor were ruined by a ridiculously hard part.

What are your thoughts?

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

What are your thoughts on the pricing of the Games on Demand, especially when it comes to the older games from the Xbox 360 launch and the year or so after that? Games like Call of Duty 2, Rockstar's Table Tennis, and Rainbow Six Vegas are $30 and it seems like age really doesn't factor in the pricing as much as it should. When was the last time you saw any of these games or the others of that timeframe (Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, Ridge Racer 6, Prey, Sonic the Hedgehog, etc) actually in stock at a B&M store and new? At this point, retailers don't care about those games anymore and that should allow for cheaper pricing if the publishers want that. Do you see any situations where you would buy any of these games at their current prices or what should they do to get you to bite on something?

To add to that with the new update, what do you think of the avatar marketplace, avatar rewards, and the recent announcements of avatar uses in retail games? Guitar Hero 5 is supposed to let you use your avatar in place of its characters to play the game and Dirt 2 might allow you to get a little avatar statue to hang from your rearview mirror in the game. Are these potential uses interesting to you and should more developers be integrating these kinds of uses into their games since they have been around for almost a year now? Are you willing to spend points on anything in the marketplace for your avatar or will you stick to any rewards that games may offer?

In CAGcast #169, Wombat said that he has a ridiculous stack of games he is still yet to play and you mentioned that you have quite a few yourself. In the past, you've said that sometimes you just can't be bothered to play a game, sometimes leaving it still unwrapped. I know you guys probably buy/receive more games than I do and have busier lives now that you have children, but I've noticed over the past couple of years I'm usually slightly hesitant to start a game when I bring it home. Back when I was a kid (I'm 25 now), I'd be so excited about getting a game that I'd bring it home and play it for hours, often times beating it. I think the issue is that nowadays it seems that so many games are high profile and intended to be some sort of grand, epic experience. It's almost overbearing and off putting. I know you've talked about the shear volume of games released, so what are your opinions on this trend of games either trying to be the most amazing, blow-you-away game ever created or games that are marketd in that way?

Not to be a douchebag, but in the last few episodes you have complained about having to get up and switch game disks. While I share the virtue of laziness but when you said that you would be willing to buy Fallout 3 on demand so that you wouldn't have to switch disks it seemed against the "CAG" way. Are your disks or xbox hard to get to or is it just laziness? Wombat, is this a problem with you too? Great show and it is allways good to hear about Wombat's taint. Keep up the good work.

CHEAPY D - now that Screwattack has opened up their own video game store, GameAttack, do you foresee a conflict of interest with your video game deals segment on Hard News? I don't think that the Screwattack guys would want you telling their auidence that better deals are to be found elsewhere.

WOMBAT - everytime Screwattack is mentioned on the show, you seem to take a veiled shot at them. There was the time you implied Hard News wasn't funny/interesting after Cheapy discussed his first segment on that show, and also the time you asked mocking questions and laughed when Cheapy was plugging the Screwattack Gaming Convention (Will they have a Live Top 10 everyday? *chuckle*). There was even one CAGcast where Cheapy had to tell you that they really do get a lot of traffic in order to get you to lay off them.

Cheapy and Wombat: Wanted to say thank you for bringing back a very fond childhood memory. When I heard that CAGcast open with Electric Blue, I was cracking up. As a kid, my cable set-top-box would play the first five minutes of all shows on the premium channels, including playboy, before scrambling the picture. I'm pretty sure it was an effort to entice people to subscribe to the channels. Anyway, I can't tell you the number of times I tuned in just to watch the opening credits (and hear the theme) of electric blue before the channel got scrambled. Hearing that music brought me back to a place I had long since forgotten. As always great show and thanks for the random song choice. Bgame2.

I downloaded the Batman demo from Xbox live since wombat seemed to like it. Even though I'm not a huge fan of Batman, I was very impressed by the graphics and presentation of the game. However, I had to stop playing the game after a few minutes because of the nausea-inducing camera. Every time Batman punches or kicks a villain, the camera will quickly whip around to show the action. This looks pretty cool the first few times, but after a while it gave me a headache and I stopped playing. Did Wombat notice this at all? The game was pretty good otherwise.

I've been a member of CAG for about 3 years now and although I've never been too active in the forums, I do visit the site quite frequently. I enjoyed your YouTube videos (specifically Lunch with CheapyD) so much that it finally inspired me to start listening to the CAGcast. There was a point during my freshmen year of college where my roommate and I used to watch your Pepsi Ice Cucumber video every day.

I heard you talk about your ‘lack luster’ impressions of the apps from Cydia. I wanted to share a few items that make your jailbreak WELL worth it:

Either phone:
Lock Calendar (if you use the calendar on your phone this shows calendar stuff on your lock screen which is huge!)
Notifier – notifications along the top
SBSettings – swipe your finger across the top for fast access to turning off and on stuff like wifi, Bluetooth, or rebooting
3g unrestrictor - $2 but it lets you download larger apps on the go or download podcasts from iTunes on the go
NES/SNES emulators – no brainer!

3GS
Backgrounder – nice ability to background apps but avoid this on the 3G as it doesn’t have enough memory

3g
Wolfenstein 3d – free game from iD runs great on 3G but for some reason does not work on 3GS.


Worth mention:
FindMyi – a free tool to track your iphone if it’s stolen. It’s off until your phone is stolen at which point you can log into their site and remotely activate the tracker.
myWi – makes a spontaneous wifi hotspot. Costs $10 but worth it in my opinion.

Hi guys, I just have a few questions and comments about the last few shows.

For Wombat
A few shows ago (You stay classy Xbox Live), cheapy mentioned Amazone Germany to which Wombat responded with "What did it say? No Jews allowed?". Ive; noticed a few times over the last 3 years that I have been listening to the CAGcast that Wombat seems to make a lot of comments hinting towards Germans or anything having to do with Germans hating Jews or depicting Germans as being Jew hating N*zis. I have been quite offended by this over the past few shows but I am starting to get sick of these mentions. Being a German myself (along with Matching Citizenship) I am sick of being made sound like I am part of a country that hates jews which is not true. Germany is a modern day mutlicultiral society who is accepting of all religions and individuals and are not in fact Jew haters like Wombat makes them out to be. I would just like to know if Wombat has a problem with Germans or something and if not please explain your comments. At this point I assume Wombat hates Germans for no reason whatsoever. I don't dislike or hate you. I have been a fan of you and the cast since day one and I find your comments towards my country very offensive. On the other hand I find that you won't answer my question based on the fact I had already asked this question once in the show feedback notes, via twitter and also during our latest episode of cross border gaming which as per twitter I assumed u listened to. I'm not quite sure what else is needed to get a response from you so I would highly appreciate some feedback.

As for CheapyD, Unlocking/jailbreaking your iphone is not illegal. Unlocking/debranding or modding any phone is not illegal unless you used non-open sourced programs to do it. The only thing you by Jailbreaking your phone is voiding the warranty which is a crock of shit because you can always restore your iphone via iTunes and the traces of the jailbreak/unlock will be gone. So no worries. When I used to work for T-Mobile a few years back I helped ppl unlock/Jailbreak their iPhones on my last day there lol.

Although this comment is a few episodes old, i feel it deserves some light. You guys were talking about how Halo 2 had a 100 friends cap and made it difficult for people like you, who are internet space pimps, to have a lot of friends. I'm totally fine with that, but when you said they should kill the support for Halo 2, my heart sank a little bit. Halo 2 is an amazing game and if people still want to experience the awesome online, more power to them. I think if a last gen game is still holding up with next gen titles, then it deserves to run as long as it can. That being said, i think Xbox Live can limit or get rid of original Xbox support, that way, the friends limit can be increased, and it forces more people to get Xbox 360's.

Great job with the CAGCast, it's my favorite podcast out there!

You both have talked about games that you have bought but haven't played. Wombat specifically mentioned he has a stack that is almost to the top of his couch. So why do you keep getting new games? Games, especially in this market, only get cheaper with time. Waiting is almost always better than buying right away. You can get great deals, like I did, getting like Fallout 3 Collectors Edition for $40 bucks. It just seems like waiting would be better. Plus it would be the more "cheap ass" method. I would love to know what you think.

I'm considering upgrading my PS3 console to a PS3 Slim, but it appears that I will not be able to transfer *any* of the video content that I've ever purchased from my existing PS3. This means replacing my console would kill *all* of these bought (not rented) videos from PSN.

Is this true, and if so, considering how many people would be interested in upgrading to a Slim, do you think Sony should do anything about it? The iTunes and XBox Live DRM models have factored in hardware upgrades / migration, and I would think that PSN should too.

I was listening to the CAGcast and heard all the games Wombat had piled up. I thought to myself that this is true for me too. I have a few games backed up that I haven't played either. I remembered that during the previous generation I never had this problem. Whenever I had a new game I would play it right away. Do you think that since the games are more advanced now it makes the games bigger and more daunting to complete or is it just that we're just getting busier and busier as we get older. Since the PS2 came out when I was 11 and had more free time rather than now when I am 20 and in college.

I was hoping you could give me your thoughts on why the current pricing structure is the way it is, in the US both the PS3 slim and 360 Elite are $299 MSRP, if im not mistaken, but here in Sweden the 360 Elite costs 2,600 Swedish Kronor, equivalent of $348 and the PS3 slim is 3,400 Swedish Kronor, equivalent of $456.

Why do you think console prices differ like this in some places? and how are consoles priced in Japan? and finally, do you think this gives the 360 an advantage in sales in Europe?

Like Wombat, I usually lose interest when you start talking about iphone games, but I'm beginning to think I might be missing out on an important gaming platform. As someone who can never get ATT service, I was intrigued that the ipod touch has just dropped to $199 (or is it $199.99 -- I'm not sure). Do you think that if you don't plan on carrying a lot of music around with you, that an 8 GB model would suffice to use as a gaming platform and to use with other assorted apps? I know that Cheapy ranted on the last show about how much of a ripoff The Beatles: Rock Band was for having only 45 songs when Guitar Hero 5 or Rock Band 2 had 80+ songs, which can be easily explained by one game featuring just one band and the other featuring 80+ to make it easier to reach those numbers. Going beyond that, I have doubt that a band game could really feature 80+ songs and come off as a meaningful game with the quality and attention to detail that Harmonix put into The Beatles game, as you'd have to be able to choose 80 songs of merit, quality, and playability and how many bands could fulfill that demand? You were a bit displeased with the songlist for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, but would you be able to design your own tracklist of just Aerosmith songs without filler or would you have to resort to the Guitar Hero way and fill it up with other bands by whatever explanation you could make for their presence? Imagine the PR nightmare that would ensue if you had 30 Aerosmith songs and 50 songs from other bands, that the headlining band didn't even get half of the tracklist? So are you still upset that The Beatles: Rock Band isn't 80 songs long?

Hey guys, I think you missed the point with your recent comments on District 9.

Like a Disney cartoon (but with more blood) I think that the story is supposed to act at two levels. The superficial story is the one about aliens that we've all seen before and the other one is a metaphor for the plight of refugees in Africa and the attempted genocides. I don't want to say any more for fear of spoiling and understand that a lot of people know nothing about African politics, which might explain your point of view.

I liked it, but I've been wrong before.

I dont think this is a spoiler alert but I was wondering if you thought your xbox was about to get the E74 error while playing Batman? Comparing The Beatles: Rock Band to the central titles (Guitar Hero WT, GH:5, RB1 and RB2) is unfair. Those games have large song lists because of the required diversity - there will be a lot of songs you just do not want to play.

The Beatles: Rock Band is a themed game, and thus should be compared to similar games. These lists are smaller, but have all similar themed music. So by that comparison, The Beatles: Rock Band is right in line with its competition.

The reviews have been 8's and 9's. If the same game for the same price were called Halo 4 instead of Halo ODST, the scores would have been 6's and 7's. Really, disgusted? Wow, I personally have really enjoyed the refreshing change in story in the campaign so far. From what I have played so far I'd give it an 8 out of 10. I have sold my Halo 3 game, so being able to go back and play online maps for maps I never purchased is sweet to me. As far as just playing with friends, I'd rather play that way instead of some of the idoits online(just ask Wombat), I just wish MS would increase the friends list size.

I keep watching and question why I keep watching every week as it gets more painful to do so. Hopefully I can kick the addiction soon. I look forward to news from TGS. The only time they even play the wii is to play the old 2d Mario games in virtual console. Ugg, my point being is enjoy the time with the consoles as it lasts because Tai will probably want to play when he gets home from school in a few years limiting your gaming time. I do get to play some games with them and I help my 6 year old on games where the boss is too hard for him to get through and I will show them how to do it and tell them to try it again with my strategy that I showed them and they go back and do it themselves after they have learned something. It's actually really cool and when I goto school for kids lunches I get asked video game questions all during lunch. I can't wait till they are teenagers and I can introduce them to call of duty, Halo, Metal Gear Solid, etc, but for right now they just keep bugging me asking me when Lego Harry Potter is coming out. You have been living in an Apartment in Tokyo, do you ever invision ever buying a home in Japan? I'd be interested in how much american dollars a typical Japanese home goes for.

Well, i'm not new to it, i've had an Xbox 360 Arcade for 2 years. And it just crapped out on me. Yep, the 3 red lights. With all of the Game of the Year editions that are coming out now that add extra DLC and content so that the publishers can charge more money for the same games they released last year, what game would you make the CAG Game of the Year to open the way for its own re-release with all of its DLC? It doesn't have to be your favorite game from last year, but it can be a game you'd be interested in buying if it were bundled with some enticing extras.

With all of the stupid stuff that Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has said and done this year, what do you think he'd have to say or do so that people don't buy Modern Warfare on principles? He's raised prices on the game for the PC and in the UK while saying he'd raise prices even further across the board if he could, though he claimed that that was a joke. He's recently made claims that he's changed the way development is done at Activision to instill skepticism, pessimism, and fear in his employees while rewarding only profit and nothing else. So what would he have to do or say to make you skip Modern Warfare 2? This isn't a serious question, but more of a What If? scenario.

If you could have just one of the games that have been delayed until next year come out this year, without sacrificing whatever polish or fixes they would have made in that extra time, what game would you most want to have come out in the next month or so?

On the show, Wombat and Shipwreck discussed that the 3 year xbox warranty resets after the system is fixed, That is a misstatement, I have heard from other podcasts (IGN) that they do NOT cover for 3 years after they fix but only for like a year. This is the first system selection that I can remember so much bad hardware. Meanwhile, I wished my dreamcast a happy 10th recently and my sega genesis both running strong in my bedroom. Next month I can wish my PS2 a happy 10th. Yea!

I'd make my purchase decision depending on how many games you own, are you playing your games in HD? I love both systems but wonder why someone would trade one in for the other. Either buy one or the other or both if u enjoy the first party titles from each system like my family does and I love the blu ray movies in the PS3 and using netflix on the 360. Maybe your better decision would be the buy a hard drive for your 360. Stick it out. It sucks they break but the hardware is getting better over time, especially if you install games to your hard drive.

There's often talk about how AI is vital in most genres, but an area where i feel this gets little attention in reviews and in general, is in racing games. I realized this while playing Forza 2 the other day, It really sucks that the AI never make mistakes - or take risks, and just seem to glide along on the perfect line, never an inch off.

My question to you is how come racing AI hasnt evolved in the same rate as other genres?, for example racing AI's should get stressed when the pressure is on, taking risks and at times totally spinning/crashing out because of the intensity of the race, I dont think i've ever seen this in a racing game nor have i seen it mentioned in a review, and it really takes away from the experience in my opinion

Since Demon's Souls is almost out and the reviews are coming in, I was wondering if you guys think that the difficulty of the game will skew the review scores to those that are able to get through it and would be most likely to enjoy it? Right now it's sitting at an 89 on Metacritic with 21 of the 28 reviews at 9 or higher and only four of the remaining at or below 80, which makes it one of the best-reviewed PS3 games on Metacritic (#18 in the Top 20) below Fallout 3 (90) and Oblivion (93). Do you even see this praise translating into big sales for the game, based on how many CAGs are buying it through affiliate links, or do you think this will ultimately being a niche game that's just being hyped up by those that are into that kind of RPG?

Hey Guys, I recently bought fifa 10 having owned fifa 09 which had a feature called "adidas live" where your players attributes would resemble there real life counter-parts. but when I put fifa 10 into my ps3 I saw that you could only download a 5 game trial of the newer "live 2.0" so i went on the EA sports forums and found they was chargin £3.99 for just ONE!! league i know £3.99 isnt alot of cash but I don't think ill be buying this out of principle since i payed £39.99 for the game brand new, Oh aswell they are charging £1.50 or something like that so your virtual pro can have increased stats for 5 matches. Do you have a problem with Black College Football Experience? There is a thing called a "black college" you know. The title should be Black College: Football Experience. Do you have a problem with Black Colleges maybe? I'm just saying whenever my favorite video game journalists mention this game they sound shocked or bothered that it exists. I have 2 POINTS for you: First, there are rivalries and history in BCFx that you can have in many college football games today, but they are not highlighted in those games and many people won't go through all that built-in social network stuff to recreate this experience. Second, the battle of the bands is a major part of the BCFx and this game addresses that. I had friends who choice of college had alot to do with the band reputation (they played in band). Do you think Activision's plan to offer GH: Van Halen free w/ purchase of GH: 5 was a retalitory move against The Beatles: Rock Band release? I think it was and for me it worked. I still haven't picked up The Beatles game, yet bought GH: 5 to get Van Halen.

I really enjoy Guitar Hero: Van Halen. For being free when buying Guitar Hero 5 it was a great value and the songs on it are awesome!

I'm taking a digital arts and media class in college and I had to write an essay answering among other things: "Do you think 3D imaging will eventually produce truly life-like characters? Would this be a good thing?" I am glad to say that finally all of my gaming has paid off in college essay form.

While I have already wrote and turned in the essay, I wanted to know your thoughts on this issue. Basically I explained that while stunning realistic graphics certainly enhance game play and help sell the game, they cannot overcompensate for solid character and story development. I also said that the time and resources needed to create these "truly life-like characters" and environments may cost developers more than what it's worth.

I wanted to ask if you think Activision's taking the wrong approach to pushing these plastic peripheral bundles for DJ Hero and Tony Hawk Ride and whether that's something that could be an issue for gamers when considering purchase of either game. When Guitar Hero first launched as the first of the plastic bundles, it was only $70 with the guitar when you weren't sure that you'd have much else to use the guitar with, but it has luckily grown to the point where that's not an issue anymore. But with Tony Hawk Ride and DJ Hero, you know that its main competitors at the moment aren't going to adopt their controllers and for twice the price of the game itself, you'd have to pray that they do well enough so there are numerous sequels and competitors that use the controller so it doesn't become a useless controller that you hide in the closet or basement. Shouldn't Activision be taking that into consideration and be willing to offer a cheaper price right now to get as many of these controllers into homes to be worth supporting in the future and not make that extra $60 a major issue for gamers who don't want to be burned because either game fails?

I am a recent college graduate who just got his first professional job in Southern California. The job is with a seat installation company that installs seats in stadiums such as the new Yankee stadium, as well as movie theaters, churches, etc. So far I have travelled to Florida twice for projects, trips which were about ten days each. I am not used to travelling this much, or being away from my friends, family, and video games for that amount of time. I work twelve hour days on these trips, which leaves a good four to five hours after work to go get some food at a bar, a drink, and return to my hotel room to pass the last couple of hours before bed. Lately I have just been watching awful CRT television, and listening to video game podcasts... But I need a change. As a solution I am considering bringing my video games along with me, although I am only somewhat interested in DS gaming, and having never owned a PSP I am really considering a PSP GO! My real wish is to somehow take my xbox360 along, (I recognize this would be rediculous in every sense of the word) in my checked luggage and a computer monitor and set it up in my hotel room with a headset and play games when I'm not overseeing the fabrication process in our sweatshop...errr warehouse!

If you guys have any suggestions for how I can make my xbox360 portable via a smaller sized computer monitor type solution, let me know. Also if you have any good PSP game recommendations or even DS games let me know as well. I am into all sorts of games. And please, if you wish to steer me away from a PSPGo, and towards a PSP3000, do so as well.

1. Ad-hoc invincibility in all games (to get past difficult areas)

2. A "what do I do now" hint mode (to get you past areas where you don't know what to do next to advance).

3. A system that can hold more than one disc (like a 5 disc changer)

4. Better pricing and syncing ability if you own the same game on multiple systems. So, if you own a PS3 and buy madden, you can get a discount on the PSP version and be able to sync stats and progress between the two. Imagine being able to play a season on your PS3 and PSP in sync!

I wanted to you two to weigh in on the onslaught of incredible gaming deals (Amazon, Toys R Us, Best Buy's Buy 2 get 1 free promotions) that have been upon this "holiday" season before Black Friday.

All of these deals suggest that retails are having a hard time selling recently released games and that they are begging people to preorder games so they have gamers' business locked up.

So that's the core of my question - with retailers slashing new game prices, is it time that publishers get rid of the $60 price point? Every other market is collapsing yet gaming prices continue to rise - thoughts?

Hi CheapyD (and Wombat). It was good to hear you talk about Forza 3 on the last show, but I would like to hear more of your thoughts on the multiplayer side of it. There is quite a controversy raging on Turn 10's official forums, with most there seeing it as a big step backwards from Forza 2. As far as I know this hasn't been picked up by any main-stream games journalists, and the limitations of the new system weren't made clear in any of the reviews or pre-release publicity.

In case you don't know, the issue is this: Turn 10 took out custom public lobbies and replaced them with Halo-like matchmaking. You can still set up games the way you could in Forza 2, but only in private. This means if you don't have many friends playing Forza you will have to use the matchmaking system, which is currently limited to very few options (also you better learn to like destruction derby).

Fly-by-night casual players may be happy with matchmaking but the more serious ones will probably be hidden away in private matches - ironic for a game that is supposedly all about "the community". Even if the matchmaking system improves it will never be able to provide the level of customization people want in a game with many thousands of possible configurations (cars, classes, tracks, no. of laps, damage, assists, etc). Forza 2 had a very long online shelf-life but I'm not sure Forza 3 will have the same. What do you think?

Hey guys! Got a question for you. Do you think the RPGs are too long for their own good?


I love Persona 3 FES & Persona 4, but I can't see myself completing either one of those for at least a year or more because both are 70+ hour epics. Sticking with one game for 70-something hours before moving on to something else is practically impossible because of all of the great new games that have been released this year and all of the deals on CAG. I've already forgotten where I am in P4's story, which is pretty much the entire point of playing an RPG to begin with.


Phantasy Star Universe may have had its issues, but the episodic way that it handled the game's offline story(complete with opening & closing credits between stages) was just plain smart. It allows you to pick up and put back down the game with relative ease compared to other games in the genre. Should all RPGs handle their epic-length stories in this manner?

recently I have been thinking about buying an xbox 360. I already have a ps3, but with modern warfare 2 coming out the need to get xbox has really hit me. Almost all of my high school friends have an xbox and play call of duty 4 together in a clan while I just play online by myself. I don't really feel left out at this point, but I know I would enjoy modern warfare 2 much more if I played with friends. Do you believe it is worth buying an xbox 360 for this reason?
I have already been on the hunt for a 360 looking for the best deals. Unfortunately I missed the walmart and amazon deal for the arcade edition with the 100$ giftcard. But I also have though on waiting until Black Friday. Do you think there will be any deals on black friday forthe xbox worth waiting for?

Hey guys,
Just wondering what your thoughts are on this issue. I never out grew the classic "Legacy" controls (think goldeneye for N64). I still use this control set up for games these days and cannot seem to get used to default controls. This makes games like Left for Dead, Battlefield 1942 and other great FPS games unplayable for me. Gears of War has the option, but I cannot use run, and turn at the same time, making multiplayer a poor experience. Halo and Call of Duty make the customization of controls so easy, can't anyone else make a game with good custom controls? I won't buy a game until I know the contorl set up, maybe I just need to learn new controls, is it my fault?

Just wanted to put my 2 cents into the Rhythm game DLC piggy bank. When the developers pick music to put on the disc, they pick songs that will be fun for all 4 instruments. When you get DLC, they pick some great songs that might not necessarily be so balanced.

I do think that the the way they handled Abbey Road was ridiculous, but complaining that you are playing piano in a queen song that doesn't have any guitar is pretty lame too. You knew it didn't have much guitar in it before you bought it.

People who buy the game used and wanted to play online multiplayer would be forced to buy the DLC in order to access matchmaking, etc. I see something like this being done in the future and wonder what your guys take on it will be.

It seems like this gen they have focused less on in-house development and more on "exclusive" 3rd party games. In contrast, Sony has focused heavily on first-party games from all of their studios. I don't know how successful that has been for Sony(they have yet to have a game that sells like Halo or Gears), but it seems like it has convinced many gamers to buy PS3s.

Do you think Microsoft is going to buy one or more game developers within the next year to give the Xbox more exclusive titles, or do they even need to do that? Will Natal be enough for them?

With the release of the new dashboard update that adds more superfluous features and apps that seem to have been shoved into an already full interface, I really started to hope that Microsoft and Sony could take a page out of Nintendo's book in offering a customizable interface. The Wii offers its channels system that lets you put any app on a seperate page so you can organize it however you wish, but on the PS3 and Xbox 360, you have to deal with whatever Sony and Microsoft wants to add whether you think it should be there or not.

The 360's dashboard only has three or four essential tabs (My Xbox, My Friends, Games Marketplace, and maybe Video Marketplace) while the other four tabs should be optional or at the very least you should be able to rearrange things within whatever boundaries MS would want to set since they'd still want to have ads and all that. The new apps are just spread out across the dashboard while adding a new tab or two, but I'd love to ask the people that are in charge of this stuff why they this was the best solution they could come up with. To add to this, you're actually paying for access to most of the features on the dashboard (most of the apps, 1 vs 100, early demos, etc.), so shouldn't you get a say in what your interface looks like outside of the few free premium themes you can get?

With the XMB, it's not so much of a cluttered interface, but the additions of PlayStation Store icons to the Game and Video tabs, the news ticker than runs even when you're offline, the What's New icon, and those kinds of things should be able to be toggled off since they were added for new or ignorant users and everyone else that's fully aware of what is on PSN should have the option to turn them off. The Facebook integration in firmware 3.10 seems to be done well as you go into the options to turn them on and the effects can be seen in the browser, which makes full use of mostly anything that site really has to offer, unlike Twitter on the Xbox 360.

I'm sorry for ranting a bit there, but it seems odd that the system that most gamers probably turn on the least offers a much more flexible interface that you probably use 99% of the time. It seems that as our systems get more complex, feature-filled dashboards, we should have more control over what do and don't want to see so that these systems can fulfill whatever uses you have for them.

Also, for a light question, could you imagine how crowded this holiday season would be if even half of the games that were delayed actually came out when they were originally supposed to?

I was wondering what your thoughts were on Pandemic getting shut down. It's sad enough that EA had to lay off all of those people but now there is no more Pandemic. Yes, some of the people were kept but Pandemic is still gone. Even though its sad that people lost their jobs, from a gaming point of view, do you even care? I for one would of really liked a Star Wars Battlefront 3. But I could care less about the Saboteur, Destroy All Humans, and Mercenaries. Whatda you think?

Hey cheapy, when you were learning japanese what was harder for you, speaking the language or learning the alphabet? I took a semester of japanese and I can see the language being a bit tough at times but I didn't think the alphabet was too hard, its just a lot of memorization, I learned hiragana, katakana, and a few kanji.

Sometimes Penny Arcade nails it right on the money. This Wednesday's comic was about how games that peddle plastic crap are starting not to sell because people are running out of room to store it all. I couldn't help but think that this indeed has become the case. Furthermore, I think I can give an approximation on when it became too much, and that was with Rock Band.

With Guitar Hero, you had one or two plastic guitars you kept a closet somewhere near your game consoles. They didn't take up too much space by themselves, and the games were new and fresh enough to justify it. Rock Band was a great game, but at the same time the plastic it comes with takes up a lot of space. It should come to no surprise that, after having to deal with the Rock Band equipment taking up space somewhere in your household, the average consumer would become hesitant to buy more games with plastic addons that would do the same.

Lastly, music games just aren't as fresh as they were with Guitar Hero I and II. They will always have an audience, but they're no longer going to be the top seller they once were.

Perks are scavenger pro, stopping power pro and steady aim. Death streak 'reward' is martydom. My killstreak rewards are at 4, 7 and 9 kills.

Recently I've been trying to play Modern Warfare 2 online and while I'm no slouch at FPS games, I just can't do well in it at all. Every match I'm getting a negative kill/death ratio and I end up throwing my hands in the air in anguish, swearing I'll never touch this game again. Yet, an hour or two later I go back and try my luck, thinking that somehow it's going to be better. I'm afraid I'm developing battered wife syndrome at this rate...
