So which 5 games out of my list of 150 CAG bought games do you guys recommend? I think Wombat might have posted his five already (and of course they carry at least 5 to 6 times the worth of anyone else's choices), but I don't think he gave any impressions of his suggestions. And I don't think Cheapy has chimed in at all yet.

What do you guys think about Jack Thompson's latest comment (http://gamepolitics.livejournal.com/299125.html) that "nobody shoots anybody in the face unless they're a hit man or a video gamer"? Accurate, hilarious, or ignorant?

Also, Minnesota recently passed (http://igo.ampednews.com/news/4327/) a video game bill that fines the minor attempting to buy an M-rated game, which the video game industry is fighting. What do you think about the law itself? What do you think could be the next twist that legislators could use for another bill to restrict the sale of games to minors?

Hey Guys,
I have a question that I was saving for after the E3 hoopla died down a bit. There was a thread a few weeks ago asking if your parents played video games.
The image I couldn't get out of my head was when I was playing Goldeneye on the 64 with my brother and my Dad. My brother could rarely be defeated back then and we were playing 2 against 1. Finally, after getting killed for the umpteenth time, my Dad snapped.
He threw the controller down and left the room only to reappear about 5 seconds later to smash the controller under his foot. I'll never forget the "tink" sound the thumbstick made when hitting the window about 15 feet away.
My bro and I still get big laughs about the incident to this day.

So, the question is........... do either of you have any favorite videogame meltdown moments ?

What was Cheapy's job before he became a house husband and full time CAG?

He definitely worked for a non-profit. I think he was their web admin.

What does wombat do?

Not that I want to start any conspiracy theories, but I am convinced that Wombat is some sort of reviewer, probably for games or movies. Why else would Cheapy ask him to use his "influence" to get a preview of that Nintendo amusement park in NY?

Regardless, it's probably a job that would be considered cool by most of the CAG community.

According to something I read this week, if a man has kids after 40, his children are 70% more likely to suffer from Dwarfism. My dad was 45 when I was born and despite being 6'4, I think I might be a victim of dwarfism. Do you think I have grounds for a lawsuit against my father for screwing me out of a basketball career because he didn't get his swerve on earlier?

Hey guys keep up the great work on the podcasts. Ok my question, Have you ever considered having more guest stars on the cagcasts like when jimmiemac was on quite awhile back? Maybe name it something like "The CAG Spotlight", "Spotlight on a CAG" or something corny like that. It'd be very interesting to hear some different opinions not that your oblivion loving opinions aren't great already!

A while back I asked a question about how developers were justifying the extra ten dollar cost of next-gen games. While I was satisfied with Cheapy's answer, I overheard something on the last CAGcast that made me second guess, and that was that Half-Life 2 is being ported to the XBox 360. I can't find a price for the 360 version, but a quick search of Gamestop reveals that the PS3 version is going for the full price of $59.99 (at least as of this moment). My question this time around is: How do you justify pricing a PORTED game - that can now be found for less than ten bucks for current-gen systems - at $59.99? The Greatest Hits version of Devil May Cry 3 threw in a slew of extra features and yet remained at a reasonable $19.99. Are making prettier graphics and adding a multiplayer mode really that much more expensive?

Speaking of the next gen. "Which console will you get" discussion, I have a little twist on it. Looking back two generations ago, which console would you get if you could only get one?

The choices are:
Saturn,
PSX,
N64,
Dreamcast

And why?

Cheapy & Wombat, read the July 2006 magazine Esquire with the article of "The Lester Bangs of Video Games" Sorry, that was misleading. There is no Lester Bangs of video games. Why? on pages 66-68. Cheapy - Now that you have been in Japan for (nearly) eight months, how have you adjusted? Considering that Tokyo is not much different than NY (big city, somewhat westernized), have you experienced any real culture shock? If so, what was the worst incident of culture shock you've been through thus far and how did you cope?

My wife recently accepted a job offer in Indonesia and will be leaving in the next month. Her offer wasn't as godfather-esque as your wife's offer but I'm still expected to join my wife at some point. (I'm already discouraged that Indonesians don't typically use toilet paper but rather their left hand and "copious amounts of water.")

Awesome podcast guys.

Two questions: 1. What's the stupidest gaming purchase you've ever made (NGage, Airflow controller, etc...)?

2. What does it take to sell you on buying a game system? Is it the first generation next gen games what sells you or is the idea of owning a 360/PSP/DS/etc befor everyone else that makes you plop down your hard earned cash generated from the clearly lucrative ads on CAG?

Thanks guys (and it's pronounced Fur-ick, like the pro golfer).

Have you ever liked a movie tie in game? If so, what was it? I have yet to play a truely fun and enjoyable moive game from start to finish since the days of SNES and Genesis. I have a good friend who plays a lot of movie games most of the time. I know not everyone has the same taste, but I just don't get these borefests at $50 a pop. It seems like until recently, most of these Hollywood cash-ins have nothing to do with the movies they are from and generally suck. I enjoyed the Lord of the Rings games mildly, well what I played of them. They weren't horrible, but nothing AAA. Also, why do most batman games suck? Batman is quite possibly the easiest comic book character to have a great game made for the series. Please fix this.

Unless I heard incorrectly during the last few CAGcasts, it sounds like CAG isn't bringing in as many funds as it was not too long ago. CheapyD, I know last CAGcast you mentioned trying to find a sponsor for the show. This might not be the most popular idea (don't shoot the messenger), but...

If that can't be found, and given the decrease in revenue coming to the website from EBGameStop now, has there been any thought of using a subscription model for CAG? Care to share how urgent/not urgent it is to find additional revenue sources for CAG?

As a game, Halo 2 was one of the most anticipated games in the history of gaming, but it was a double edged sword to alot of people on release. From a entirely different feel in the controls and gameplay that seemed to target the broader audience, instead of those who would have liked to see Halo stay more focused on skills and with less auto-aim.

This leads me to my question. On the Xbox there are alot of players out there who are only going to play Halo 1 or Halo 2, based on they're style of play. There are going to be people like my friends back home, who'll only play Halo 1 because of the 'noobiness' of Halo 2 and vice-versa.

Now this leaves Bungie with a bit of a problem in my eyes. They have a huge fan base, one of the biggest in the industry, but there are people who are divided on what they're asking for in Halo 3. With the massive success of Halo 2 online, many people would scream if things went back towards Halo 1, in much the same way Halo2 caused.

What would you think if Bungie announced that it was going to do something similar to Counter Strike? Release an older game on a next generation engine, meaning a complete rebuild of a popular game like Halo 1 multiplayer. They could throw it in there with the new standard of Halo 2 style options, allow both versions access to levels/weapons and Xbox Live and of course set Halo 1 as a Classic Mode.

Would older fans come back?
Would this be possible?
Your thoughts about this being a success?
If it works great, do you see other classic games being rebuilt? (EX Starcraft)

Being a CAG I won't be ready to move to a XBox 360 until the price drops. However, I can't help but feel a sense of disappointment that Microsoft has essentially halted support of the original Xbox. I say "disappointed" becasue I'm not *surprised* that MS has done this. I kinda took a risk buying a Xbox when most everyone was buying PS2s. Maybe MS has taken my loyalty for granted.

From an incomplete and laggy (and some might say offensive) Live experience (on the original service), to missing promised features and harware (video chat), to lack of full implementation of the Xbox Live Arcade, I think of Microsoft as a politician - willing to tell you what you want to hear, but unable to follow through on promises.

Cheapy and Wombat -
Do you think MS's effort to get the 360 out before the PS3 hurt the current Xbox owners? How does MS's abandonment of the Xbox compare to other console makers' transition to new hardware (PS1 -> PS2 for example)? Is the console industry littered with promises that are never fulfilled (I think I know the answer to that one)?

Thanks

For both guys - A lot of CAGs I talk to and other people I game with online seem to get online after a hard day's work, or a night out, or after some kind of activity, rarely are they just sitting around all day. With the Wii coming out soon, I was wondering if the idea of this new and innovative controller might actually drive some consumers away. I get the feeling that if you came home from working all day to play, for example, the tennis game coming out for the Wii, that you would not want to move aside any table or object between you and the TV and run around the entire room trying to return the ball. I know that many people appreciate the creativeness behind the new "controller" for the Wii, but will there be a substantial backlash to its idea? I'd love to hear your opinions on this.

Like Wombat, I too was disappointed by the new Superman film. The film itself wasn't terrible, but it does appear that there were a number of fanboys among the so-called "professional critics" that gave the film huge props following pre-release screenings.

The movie wasn't everything I had hoped for following the old Christopher Reeve films. The special effects were great, but the basic storyline was pretty weak. Kate Bosworth is way too young for the role of Lois Lane, and the pacing was too slow for a summer action flick.

How deep into the NES library do you think they will go when releasing virtual console games? What I mean by this is that there are some obscure games out there that I would like to play like Duck Tales 2. You think Big N will try to get games like these on there. My big worry is that they will only get the major titles like megaman, castlevania, sonic and peoples' individual classics will mostly get left out.

Also what NES/SNES/SEGA/Turbo Graphix games are you guys hoping to play on the VC?

OK here's a good one... what is the proper etiquette when someone (coughwombatcough) invites you to play a game on Xbox Live but you are in the middle of watching "The Family Stone" with the wife? It feels rude to just ignore the invite (especially when I'd rather play on Xbox Live than watch some chick flick) but the little pop-up icon is distraction enough and interrupting the movie to respond is probably also rude (I dare not even suggest it!). What do you do?

...Cheapy/Wombat, what do you think of Linkin Prime (CAG/Team Xbox poster)'s constant copying and pasting of articles from teamxbox.com?

I know my reply is kind of late on this but I just got word from my CAG buddy, Richlough that I was mentioned on CAGCast #34 where this question is asked and answered.

I'd like to thank CheapyD and Wombat for sticking up for me . I don't understand why some people try to give me a hard time on me doing this. I love gaming and I'm not in the industry so I can't just start threads with brand new information that has never been posted anywhere before.

Almost every site I visit, copies and pastes information from other sites, its normal. I simply do what I do because I love gaming and I love the CAG community. I like to have discussions here as opposed to the other sites. I started posting stuff from TeamXbox, which was one of the couple news sites I knew at the time. As you can see by my more recent threads I do post from other locations. If its newsworthy, I'll post it up for a discussion, simple as that. I never try to take credit for someone else's work, or mean no harm in doing so. Thanks again to the CAG's that do appreciate and understand what I do here.

Wommy - Now that your 360 has gone tits-up, how do you feel? Are you pissed at Microsoft and cursing a flawed product, or are you just thinking "This happens to early adopters...I knew what I was getting into?" Also, do you think MS is lying about and/or downplaying how many consoles were really sent in for repairs or came back as defective? (Cheapy - I can't remember if you had to send yours back previously or not...if you have please answer also)

#1 Do you think Microsoft is squandering thier chance to take a big lead in the console market by not having any first party titles come out for almost a year after the 360 launch? Or do you think just worrying about holiday sales is the smart route?

I'd like to add on to his question, since it's a good one - How much of a role do you think a steady stream of XBLA titles would play in selling 360 consoles during the usual "summer drought" that most consoles experience? Would it nudge them further towards their magic "10 million" buffer before the PS3 & Wii launch, or would it only affect people that already have the 360? Also, do you think that MS is holding back some of these previously announced XBLA titles to save as much ammuntion as possible for the holidays?

Here's some options: If your using your X360 for an in-home date with your significant other, you might want to set your online status to "away" or "busy", or you could turn off the friend indicator, or if you're near a PC, you could log on to xbox.com and send a quick text message.

Guys, do you ever do retrogaming the old fashioned way; by actually using retro consoles? Due to emulation and retro complimations, I figure out that the older games are going to be cheaper.
Especially you CheapyD, you can get a Famicom or Sega Saturn cheap over in Japan with a lot of games for a low price.

For instance, I got myself a PC Engine with CD, A/V Famicom, Sega Saturn, Japanese PS2 (so I can play Tokimeki Memorial 1 & 2) and Neo Geo MVS (via Supergun). I have a crapload of games but I wish I can find to play them due to looking for a job (feel free to snip that from the podcast).

With the merger of gamestop/eb, and on occasion hearing you talking about bring in more revenue or the possibility of you getting a job, have you thought about other ways to bring in revenue? You have mentioned (iirc) your friendship with other websites, why don't you have them as guests on your show, and then you represent cag on there podcast. Hopefully it could attract more members, which should bring in more revenue. Maybe even try to get a guestspot on a gamespot/ign. You could sell your skills as a game analyst from japan.

You two really seem to appreciate a good VG Soundtrack, as do I. Whenever I start a new game, the 1st thing I do is go into the options and change the volume of the BGM and Sound Effects. I would guess that about 90% of the games produced have the effects at 100% and the BGM at 75%. What is up with this conspiracy? I usually reverse them so that the music is louder. I have wasted literally MINUTES of my life repeating this procedure and I would appreciate it if you guys would use your clout in the industry to make a change.

P.S. why do they make the BGM go to 100% if the default is 75%? (Insert Spinal Tap reference here)

Here's a question for Mrs. Cheapy or other Japanese natives:

According to a Nintendo Power article, the Japanese version of the DS game Big Brain Academy measures progress in terms of the brain's softness so that the better you do at the tasks, the softer your brain. This metaphor is the opposite of how we'd see it in English. To us, someone whose brain has gotten soft is someone who's gotten dumber. So, could you ask Mrs. Cheapy and some of your Japanese friends to explain why a soft brain is a good thing in Japanese.

Thanks and keep up the great podcast.

Cheapy D and Wombat, I love your podcast, I always bump it to the top of my playlist when it becomes available. My question:

Here in our forums, as well as over at Joystiq and Kotaku, many gamers have noticed cracks on the left hinge of our DS Lites. Nintendo's official position is that this is user created damage(i.e. we're flinging DSes like drunken spider monkies), not a manufacturing defect. It is NOT covered under warranty, and costs $50 to repair.

What can we do make Nintendo see the error of its ways? Is a class action lawsuit the only way to get them to honor their 1 year warranty? Does this mark the end of durable Nintendo consoles and cause us to reconsider the wiimote?

Hey there Cheapy D and Wombat,

First, let me start by saying that I really enjoy your podcast and I think you guys are doing an awesome job! Out of the several podcasts that I listen to, you guys are number one to me. You guys make a great team and you compliment each other well. Unlike other shows (e.g. Major Nelson), the CAG cast is entertaining, informative and extremely funny! I like to listen to the CAG cast at work when I’m toiling away on a project and more than once I have caught myself laughing out-loud; getting puzzled and annoyed looks from my co-workers. Every week I look forward to downloading the newest episode—it’s truly the highlight of my week! Please keep up the good work; you guys are terrific!

Now, I feel I must respond to that proverbial “ass-hat”, Steve from Canada. Please do not think that all Canadians are like this gentleman. Unfortunately, it sounds like Mr. Steve has some sort of oblong shaft thrust into his large intestine and really needs to fall off his “high horse”. Who admits to looking at porn, Steve? I do, you pompous bastard! So there!

Anyway, I didn’t want you guys to get the wrong idea about us Canadians (I bet Steve is from Quebec!) Like I said previously, you guys are awesome!

Now, the purpose of my letter isn’t just to blow sunshine up your collective asses; I do have a question.

In a lot of ways, the XBOX 360 seems to have been the race horse that has stumbled quite a few times coming out of the gate, what with launch system shortages, faulty units, lack of games and LIVE arcade let-downs. Do you feel that the benefits of an early 360 release and head-start against the PS3 have been neutralized by these initial problems?

Thanks guys for a great show and good luck to you Wombat on the repair of your 360! I hope it gets well soon.

Sincerely,
CaptNink

Hey CheapyD and Wombat, I really enjoy the show! keep up the good work. I've got a great contest idea: how about a 'game with CAG-fame' contest? I've always wondered what it'd be like to play with with you guys. You could provide various game choices from various platforms (XBL, DS, PC) that you'd be willing to play as to not limit potential contestants. If you wanted to raise the contest stakes you could even provide the game of choice to the winner! I know this is a total ripoff of the Microsoft's game with fame events, but this would be better since the "fame" would be people CAGs would actually want to game with! Maybe you could even get the guys at Kotaku, Penny-Arcade, ect. involved? This contest would totally get me to write you guys an iTune review! ;) and even if you don't like my idea how about giving me an add anyway? Thanks and keep churning out awesome podcasts from your awesome podcast factory.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

It seems to me that Sony really shot themselves in the foot with their decisions regarding the PS3. First it was the boomerang controller, which thank god, they fixed. Now we have the dual-tier pricing, which they should have known from the 360 would be very unpopular, and the $600 price point, which is unacceptable for a mass-market home console. While they will definitely sell out at launch, I can't see them doing well in the following months. They lack major exclusive titles, and the 360 and Wii will have the advantages of being first to market and having a much lower price point, respectively. I think Sony is going to come out last in this generation, at least in the US. What do you guys think Sony can do to help their console in the coming years?

Hey Guys,
The issue of race and stereotypes in games as they continue to become mainstream is bound to only get larger.

My question is do you think the cost and risk involved in making a game these days is why games stick to stereotypes of race and why there hasn't been a game with an all latino or all african american characters? Or do you guys think it might be because a great deal of games are developed in Japan where there isn't as large of a mix of races?

1. Almost every PC game requires you to download a series of patches to make it playable. Do you guys view this as an acceptable practice? Do you think the reason for the patching is mostly because of the diversity of hardware in PCs or do you view this as PC games not being developed to the same standards as most console games?

2. I don't know if you guys ever played or got into U.O. <ultima online> but if you did get in on it early it had some awesome concepts. In this game PVP mattered as in you could loot your slain victims in PVP and you could actually pickpocket items as a theif. To combat rampent thieving and player killing U.O. forced the aggressors to turn red after 5 murders. This meant that if they died they would be forced to wait several hours or days depending on how many kills over 5 they were to res or suffer a loss of hard to gain stats. This system was amazing and made PVP and adventuring extremely fun. Is there any MMORPG around that still does something similar to this? Is the reason there aren't any games like this a testament to the wussiness of gamers and our fear of losing our elite pink slippers of furry rabbitness?

Sorry Wombat, I'm guessing the following are questions only for Cheapy this week:

1) What's the lowest price you've seen this week for an Xbox 360 premium in Japan and does this store have an Internet site? The new shooter from G-Rev, Senko no Ronde Rev.X is out and now I'm wondering if I should go through the trouble of getting an import box so I can play games like this that probably aren't coming here to the US.

2) Do you know what hardware rev/production run they are on in Japan? I hear this most recent generation of 360s in the US are the most stable and trouble-free yet.

3) Have you played Bullet Witch and if so, what are your impressions?

Finally, just a suggestion but, can you review or give impressions of as many "Japan-only" games for whatever consoles you have each week as possible--or maybe do a segment like a cagcast version of "Your Man In Japan"?

Thanks!

I know Sony has officially confirmed the Ps3 $600 price point, but didn't they say the PSP was going to be $500? When it came out for $300, everyone thought it was a total bargain and bought two. Could this just be another marketing trick?

Hey Cheapy and Wombat, I was just wondering if you guys had any ideas for the Saints Row CAG Gang Name. I have a few suggestions. I have enough store credit to pick up a 360 premium for free at EB (roughly $400). There are sales online that sell the premium console for (roughly, again) $310 shipped. Would you spend the credit to get the console, or buy the cheaper one online (with out of pocket money) and use the credit for games?

I'm not sure. . .

In your next podcast, could you discuss the "morals" of CAG? In the latest Circuit City "Buy-one-get-one" glitch, there was a lot of talk in the forums about whether a "true" CAG would remove pricing labels, force the cashier to ring items in a certain order, etc, in order to take advantage of a glitch in the system. Is this what you intended when you started CAG? On what side of this argument do you stand?

Can't wait to hear the guys' thoughts on the neutering of E3. What does this mean for the gaming industry and the media outlets that cover it? Who loses (Bloggers? Big media like IGN and GameSpot? Small publishers?)? Who wins (The Big Three? EA? Booth babes who no longer have to get groped?) Will this result in news (and possibly releases) getting spread more evenly throughout the year? Will other fan-targeted cons rise to fill the void (PAX seems to think they are the heir apparent)?

If they wanted to tone it down, they could have just brought E3 back here to Atlanta. That would have cut out about 2/3 of the crowd right there.

Hello! I just discovered your website/podcast and am already a big fan! I just had a few questions for you regarding the PC as a gaming platform.

1. What do you think of Gamespot/EB's policy of not accepting used PC Games (something I was unaware of, having been out of the US for a while).

2. Do you think that with the massive amount of money Mcrosoft is pouring into promoting Vista as a gaming platform (Games for Windows, more shelf-space, uniform boxes etc.), more casual gamers will be willing to play games on the PC?

3. Do you personally consider the PC a legitimate gaming system, or more of a catch-all device that happens to play games?

(BTW, I am not a PC elitist. I recently bought a PS2 (which I enjoy quite a bit), and my rig is adequate at best. I simply enjoy the freedom of design offerred by the PC when it comes to games.)

Thanks!

My wife and I love origin stories, and we'd love to hear the origin of the CheapyD / Wombat team. Does it go way back from the pre-CAG days, like were you childhood friends, or was it genesised from the site?

Additionally, we know that Wombat is a former talent agent. What did CheapyD do for a living before he moved to Japan, and are these questions somehow related?

I know you talked about it in the past CAGcast, but I would like a little update on Wombat's opinions of Dead Rising and if CheapyD gets his before the next CAGcast, I would like to hear his responce to the greatest save system since steel toed boot to the nuts. I myself have been burned a few times by the system and haven't played the game much. I would like to contact Capcom myself like Wombat said, but I don't know where to start. Maybe I should grab my camera and head over to Japan and give those sadistic sons of bitches a piece of my mind and or get my question answered before being escorted out by armed guards.

For Wombat, I am looking into losing some weight myself. Would you recomend Nutra-system? I am not obeast(aka I can still see my feet standing up without bending over), I recently went off my anti-depressants for my panic attacks and have gained a few pounds that I would love to leave behind. Besides the meals, are you working out/exercising? If so what are you doing? My betterhalf has an eliptical machine that she uses every night and I am thinking of getting one for myself to aid my weight loss. I would gladdly accept a PM if you didn't feel like talking about all of this on the show. I was also thinking that maybe we could get a group going on the site for us to lose weight for those who want to. Sort of a a support group for the D&D buld members that would like to get into shape.

I love Wombat as much as the next guy, but I think Cheapy has a good sense of when things have gone a bit far afield and is right to politely snap things back on topic. Wombat often does it for Cheapy too, which is why I think they work so well together.

In terms of home consoles, Nintendo has long placed more value on party or "in the same room" multiplayer, while Sony and Microsoft have almost exclusively invested in online multiplayer. Though it looks like Nintendo will finally embrace online play with the Wii, it's clear they still plan to promote the party game dynamic. Which multiplayer dynamic do you find more enjoyable? Do you think Nintendo should keep doing what they're doing in terms of multiplayer or focus more heavily on the kind of comprehensive online experience Microsoft brings to the table?

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

I have tried numerous times (actually 2) to get Trauma Center at my door step. I first tried with Amazon back on July 1st, but I still haven't received anything today. I called their customer service and politely explained my situation. They said they had "supply issues" and all they did was push my shipping estimate from July 24th to August 24th and then proceeded to give me 2-3 day shipping.

I then tried Overstock on July 26th and I actually got a better deal on Trauma Center there than Amazon and they Actually shipped it within 2 days. But it's still at the post office...supposedly. I called their customer service and they put a trace on my package. It's going to take yet another week to trace it. If they can't find it, and since they don't have anymore TC in stock, the MOST the can do is refund my money...

I'm grateful for that, but I really want that game in my hands. Is there any way to get these unreliable companies to compensate for all the time I've lost and all the deals I've passed waiting for my package? I have a feeling Wombat might be able to answer this.:) thanks.

Hey there cheapy and wombat.

I completely agree with Wombat, games often have *features* that seem like terrible ideas. yet if you read interviews even from major website they often ask questions that have been answered on the back of the retail box or on a games website. I'm so sick of questions that despretly need to be answered never being asked, but when reviews come out they act like they are the consumer and unable to get answers to these questions or being uncapable of even asking them.

i read a couple articles about this lately and was wondering what you though. A couple developers were discussing putting games onto Nintendo consoles, but their biggest problem is Nintendo games. They talk how 1st party games canablize the market share of games bought, which makes it a lot harder for 3rd party games to sell well on a Nintendo system. Do you think this is true and if so do you think there is anyway for Nintendo to break this trend?

The new HOT pink slim ps2 looks sweet. Coming with 2 controllers is also a nice change for the ps2. Im just not sure for a 5 year old console at the end of its life cycle it really needs a limited edition color version. The Ps3's could really use different colors on the other hand.

i would like to talk about the ridiculous prices of consoles and games in Canada. i know it is worse in Europe but being just abouve the u.s it shouldnt be so different. for example the premium xbox360 bundle cost $399 American and $499 Canadian. at the exchange rates today the 499 CAN roughly translates to $450 American. Plus where i live there is 13% tax on all these items. i dont see why the prices should be so different when our countries are right next door. I would like to hear your opinion on this subject.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat. Long time listener, first time caller here.

I'm curious if Japan has its own videogame channel, like G4 or GamePlayHD, and if so what is the quality of the programming? I used to subscribe to the Famitsu Wave DVD magazine and thought Enterbrain made some pretty good segments, and I wonder if maybe they also broadcast some of that on TV.

Great podcast!

Have you ever considered the Xbox 360 being a next gen console not because of the games, but because of the Live Marketplace and the Dashboard? It is the only system that allow you to download and play demos, and has the biggest hard drive yet in a console (I know about the ps3). I think people should look at consoles and not just see the games. Although I do agree that games are important.

How do you guys feel about the XBL Vision Camera not being sold sans games? Specifically, do you feel like you are being charged extra for games and/or a subscription to XBLA you probably already have?

I'm a long time listener to the show but I'm new on the site. You guys have the best weekly gaming podcast. You're hilarious together and I often find myself laughing to myself at my desk while listening to your show at work. Last week was by far one the best episodes. Between the Mrs. Garrett impersonation, Wombat being called Cheapy's adopted retard, and mention of the CAG thong, I think my co-workers probably thought I got high before work.

Anyway, my question is are you going to Tokyo Game Show, Cheapy? And what's with the Allgames.com hate? AGI is a great show, give it a chance. Besides, what could you have to lose by getting your show syndicated on another site?

Hey guys
Love the show, got my gamer friends and family hooked as well. I'm just curious if you ever got recognized in public Cheapy? I mean, you're a pretty unique looking guy, not saying that you're ugly or anything, I just mean that it'd probably be easy to pick you out of a crowd.

Just for laughs, let's say that the Wii is a colossal failure and sells even less systems than Gamecube. Do you think Nintendo has a "contingency plan" waiting in the wings? (i.e. A "true" next-gen system with better graphics, HD, and the other stuff the Wii is basically lacking.) How well do you think the Wii will have to do before it's considered a success?

Thank you Cheapy and Wombat for answering my previous CAGBag question on retro gaming and I recall that Wombat reads comics.

This is my question for you Wombat, since I doubt Cheapy looks for US based comics in Japan:
52/Infinite Crisis or Civil War?

I guess things are heating up in both the DC and Marvel line of comics with the outing of Spiderman and the 'disapearence' of Superman/Wonder Woman/Batman.

Thank you for reading this post and I need to get to a comic book shop to pick up on both 52 and Civil War.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat, love the CAGCast, considering you do one every week the quality is excellent.

BTW Do you know that on Itunes the CAGcast is under "Game and Hobbies" and not Video Games, is that by choice ?

My qustion is, having received Texas Hold'Em for free on XBLA I'm starting to think some of the other games should be available for free. Not original content games like Mutant Storm Reloaded or Cloning Clyde but some of the retro titles like Pac-man and Galaga really aren't worth 400 points. I don't really think putting these games on XBLA requires any more effort than emulating an old Xbox game and that service is free. Perhaps some of the retro titles could be paid for with advertising or something.

What do you guys think ??

This one is for Wombat:

You mentioned that you read comics in a previous CAGcast. What are you currently reading? If you are reading or have read Civil War and Infinite Crisis, which one did you enjoy more? Does your cheapassness roll over to comics as well and you trade wait, or do you buy singles? :D

Cheapy D and Wombat (although I think Wombat is well qualified to answer alone) -

Regarding the PS3's new slogan "This Is Living!". Am I the only one who remembers this being the catchphrase during the 80's for Nutrisystem or Jenny Craig?!

Every time I read that slogan, I picture a stocky furry fellow eating turkey burgers out of his Ken Kutaragi Grill.

Love the show.

You guys often talk about how your wives react to games. I think other married guys, like myself, and perhaps single guys who want to see how the other half lives, would be interested in a segment or whole show with your wives as guests. I know our (sadly) few female members would find it refreshing. They could talk about the games they like, specific titles that you guys enjoy that they hate, and how they feel about being married to 30+ guys that still regularly play video games (and I do not mean that in a negative or condescending way; I am, after all, in the same boat).

Clearly they are not your forté, but could you at least try to show a bit more interest in traditional japanese RPG releases? (Pointing out the overly gay character in Enchanted Arms doesn't really count and not all of us are into Oblivion) You seem to always pass over them with barely a mention most of the time. Don't get me wrong, I love the 'cast. I'm just saying that maybe you could get some more variety into the mix. Listening to lengthy discussions on whatever trivial stuff may have popped up on XBL Arcade all the time gets a little stale, you know?

(Speaking in an overall broad sense here, not really related to any specific CAGcast)

I am not too sure if you've addressed this question in a CAGcast yet, and I am too lazy to search all the CAGbag questions, so please forgive me if this has been asked.

Since EA recently released the statement that they're going to be focusing less on the PSP and more on the Nintendo portable, what games in their stable of titles would actually find a good home on the DS? I understand their move as far as going with the system that has the highest fanbase/sold units, but is the DS really that condusive to sports gaming?

Question regarding the hypothetical aftermath of the PS3 Launch.

Considering that Japan is getting such a low number of PS3 units come launch time, it is conceivable that Sony could divert a larger number of PS3 units to Japan following the initial run to make up for the lack of units. This would translate into less availability here in the U.S.

What is your impression of this hypothetical situation? What sort of fallout, if any, do you predict could occur?

Also, do you believe Sony's isolation strategy (one market over the other) is the best route for them to take considering the shortage? Or should Sony have just bit the bullet and delayed the launch so everyone could have a PS3 in March?

Cheapy and Wombat-

In the last show, Cheapy mentioned a problem commonly brought up regarding the Wii controller-- that repeated arm/hand motions with the controller will tire gamers out.

Is this looking at it the wrong way? People don't complain that Duck Hunt used to tire them out, and DDR's ability to keep gamers in shape is seen as a positive. Fact is, if you were really running around shooting zombies or swordfighting, you'd get tired in more than just your wrist.

So does this potential fatigue not add realism, and bring gaming a bit closer to something more athletic and sport-like? If you want to be the best at a competitive Wii game, doesn't it add a dimension of competitiveness to have to be able to keep your arm up & flailing longer than your adversaries?

Do 360 nerd points encourage you to 100% a game like Saints Row, or would you have got all the treasures and taxi missions in GTA regardless of Nerd Points.

I.e, do Acheivments make you play games to the full extent, or are you above them :P

Edit: BTW, Congrats to Wombat on getting 1000 points on Oblivion.

2. Wombat, if I send you various items from my household, will you sniff them and give me an analysis?

Cheapy, I noticed that you more or less have a potty mouth during the CAGcasts and aren't afraid to let loose with the occassional 'shit' or 'fuck', but every time you are talking about bodily functions (which happens to be quite often) you refer to it as a 'doodie'. I've heard rumors about the DS and its interactivity with the Wii allowing for the download of DS demos through an internet connected system. This lead me to wondering if Nintendo has considered having a internet browser integrated on the Wii that could use the DS as a keyboard / additional screen to take web surfing on a console to a new level.

My question is: Do either of you have your own speculations or brainstorms regarding the integratetion of the DS with the Wii relating to game functions, or other facilities?

Call of Juarez is one of the most morally confused games I have ever played. In the game, you are not allowed to shoot innocent people, (even though this is supposed to be the Wild West.) My guess is that Ubisoft has censored this, in an effort to please, or at least avoid all the anti-video game politicians out there.

Now, I can understand that. But this is what gets me confused: One of the first missions is to find money to pay for a prostitute, who ends up giving you a blowjob. On top of that, walking through a bar, the main character is called a spic on multiple occasions.

What is Ubisoft thinking? Is paying for sex and calling people spics acceptable, but going on killing rampages with a six shooter, not? I don’t think the anti-videogame police will be very impressed. Ubisoft had gimped what could have been decent game.

Maybe, this is just a big deal to me, I don’t know. But when I’m supposed to be a cowboy, I don’t want some publisher telling me who I can and cannot shoot.

What do you guys think?

Dear Mrs. CheapyD and Mrs. Wombat. Wassup with all the buggy games being released for the 360? It seems like whenever a game comes out, the gaming public is screaming for a patch to fix laggy online play (COD 2, Saints Row, Dead or Alive), saving problems and a host of other flaws. Are developers getting lazy now that they have the ability to patch their games? Seems like one of the advantages console gaming had over PC was that the games would work out of the box.

Thank you. That is all.
