How do you guys feel about the non-gaming related features that are being added to game consoles these days (GPS and Skype for PSP, IPTV functionality for 360, etc)? Are you more likely to embrace such additions and see them as an enhancement to your investment or do you frown upon them as added fluff to distract from actual gaming?

Here is a question for Wombat:

As someone who still works in the Corporate world, are your employer/coworkers aware of your work on the CAGcast or the Gamesblog? Does your boss/coworkers know who "Wombat" is? I am asking because you have said in the past that you would love to make a living in the games industry as opposed to what you currently do. I used to work in the Corporate world and I know that any career goals or thoughts you had that didn't contribute to the "bottom line" of the company were frowned upon. Now that I work on my own I am not exposed to the "Office Space" mentality much any longer.

Also, is your work internet usage monitored making it impossible for you to check out CAG or post on your blog during work hours? If so how do you get around that?

Thanks! (Don't worry this isn't your boss) LOL

Guys,

Any predictions on what the free Arcade title that Microsoft has promised everyone will be? Wouldn't you rather have the 400-800 points to buy your own game, rather than have one pre-determined by the company?

Hey guys,

Happy New Year's to you both! I was wondering what you guys thought of these somewhat random game cameos in the new fighting games coming out. The Smash Brothers team has already announced Solid Snake and Sonic, and now there's recent news of Darth Vader and Yoda appearing as playable characters in Soul Calibur 4. Do you think this is a good move to attract more fans, or a gimmick to sell copies of the game without actually having to improve gameplay? Thanks!

Yo Cheapy,

Is it at all possible to email me the link or mp3 file of that wicked-ass track 'Ass and Tetris'....you know the one....you intro-ed it on the CAGcast 101. I would love to have that track and any others to play to my mates on my iPod.

Any help Cheapy? Email me at pete_brasler@xtra.co.nz or post link to download the track.

If you don't comply I will fry you with my Darth Vadar lightsaber after I've downloaded him in Soul-ed out Calibur. These downloadables are so transparent most of the time. Marketing people.

Thanks again. I think Wombat's suggestion of having Pachter back on the CAGcast is a great one. Looking forward to it.

Cheapy D, have you tried "The History Channels The Civil War" for 360? I know you spoke about playing COD4 & The Darkness. CW is a good rentalIMO, especially if your into COD. Give it a try.

I finished COD4 360 & The Darkness this week since LIVE has been running so badly. That's the most singleplayer I've played in a while. I'm halfway through MOH Airborne. It's okay too. I like the L zoom cover system & parachuting

Hey man here (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/cheapyd/Ass_&_Tetris_%28You_Forgot_Poland%29.mp3) is where you can get it, just right click and save link as. Also Cheapy, (after listening to you answer my Transformers question) I think I liked the movie alot because I didn't read too far into it and just really liked the CGI detail (would really like to see it in HD) and the action in general which is pretty much all I went to see the movie for anyway. I do agree with you that the movie being more based around the humans was really shit but whenever I watch it again, I just watch it for the action, mainly the last half hour.

Love the show. Love when Wombat begs for games.

1. Do you think the relatively lower price point for DS games has limited the potential for really great games to be released on the system? When publishers could charge $70-80 in the snes days you would get great, polished games like Street Fighter 2 and Chrono Trigger, but although the DS can clearly do that level of graphics few games meet that high standard.

2. Were you disappointed with the DS in 2007? What are you looking forward to on the DS in 2008?

I agree with Cheapy about the travesty that has become DLC, especially on Live. But do you think the PS3 is doing a slightly better job in regards of when they make you pay?

Sony charges nothing for Themes and wallpapers, whereas Live nickle and dimes you for this stuff.

I'm sure all this will change when Home debutes, but at least its free for now!

Keep up the good work

Hey Cheapy I was wondering why do you post the best of the Sunday Deals on Sunday? Wouldn't it help more if you could post them on a Friday or Saturday? I know before there were times when there wasn't any ad postings on the forums, but now it seems even when speedy can't make the posting for a few weeks the community is really helping out and getting the information early still

PS
Any chance in expanding the Sunday deals to include DVDs/blu-ray/hd-dvds?

Hello, I just recently read an article about the production costs of 60 dollar games. The profit is split somewhat evenly between Microsoft, the retailer, and the developer. My question is what happens when the retailer has a sale and marks a game 20 dollars off, how are they supposed to get profit? And when games have been out for a while, and go down to 20 dollars, don't they just lose money? Thanks

Hello Cheapy D and Wombat!

Today I have a question for you Wombat:

You mentioned you are enjoying your house and that you have a totally empty room in Cagcast 102. What would your 'dream room' would be like for this room? Would it be an arcade room w/ arcade cabinates? An Atari 2600 Shrine w/ all the games framed and posted along the walls? A memorabilia room featuring photos of yourself with celebrities? A room used for growing 'herbs'? Or perhaps a full Wombat Sanctuary with some Wombat Babies you can raise as your own (Maybe this is easier than having human babies?)? And Lastly, maybe you want to turn it into a full on Video Studio so you can host a video version of the cagcast, complete w/ a couch for guests to come in and sit on ala Wayne's World?

Anyways, those are just some ideas I have, have a nice day and Thanks for taking a look at my question!

OK. I believe an injustice has taken place with the announcement that CheapyD has never seen an episode of Harvey Birdman. The comedic references are right up your alley. How could Cheapy not see anything that was meant to have "Better with weed" as part of the title?

Anyways. If your willing to commit to watching some hilarious TV (typcial episodes are around 11 minutes) I'm willing to send you some DVD's.

Let me know if you want to take me up on the offer.

My personal favorites are Booty Noir and Very Personal Injury.

Hi guys! I know I sort of asked a question in the CAGCast 102 thread, but that was directly related to the show, whereas this is more general. Are there any games that you guys either love to play or cannot play anymore due to their association with what was going on in your life? I know it sounds totally weird. Like, for me, I can't really bring myself to play Etrian Odyssey anymore, as much fun as I was having with the game. I got it sometime in the middle of last year, and around the time I got it, my grandmother ended up going into the hospital. I was playing it when I got the call that she had passed away, and I played it on the plane to and from the funeral, and while spending time with my family around the time of the funeral. Now, I can't really bring myself to get back into it...it's too tied to those memories. Crazy, I know. Anything like that for either of you?

Hey Cheapy, I live in the Uk and it has always been my dream to live and experience the Japanese culture. When I am older Im considering taking a teaching corse to teach english there. Is Japan (preferably Tokyo) generally more expensive to live in than the US or the UK? How and why did you move there? Are the people friendly? (I know this is a bit personal so dont answer if you don't want to but) When you first moved there was/Is it finically tight? And finally were do you prefer living?
Sorry for the rather long and blabbery question :)

Hey guys,

My girlfriend and I have been listening to the show for about 20 or so episodes.
I gotta say, way to go on making a gaming podcast that my girlfriend will actually listen to, considering the fact that she pretty much only ever plays anything Mario-related. I must say that generally speaking, women(mostly American) tend to steer towards the Mario games. Maybe it's that sexy caterpillar on his face...? discuss.

On a side note, there was a laughing fit at our house for a good 20 minutes when we heard Wombat's mom with that brilliant Wombat introduction. Can she be hired for bar mitzvahs? (yes, I'm 30 and jewy too...you should meet my mom)

Questions for the CAGbag:

How, where, and when did Cheapy and Wombat meet?

How old were you guys then?

Will/would you adhere to the ESRB ratings when Ty(probably misspelled) decides to play Grand Theft Auto: Rest Home in 10-15 years? That GTA game will definitely be a Mature title, if not AO...let's hope.

Also, a suggestion from both of us: We would love to see your wife on for more reviews! Having a woman on, definitely helps with variety. And we all know the men who listen to the cast won't mind.

I'm getting looks...

Hello guys. As you definately noticed , Warner bros decided to give their support to the Blu-ray. And now , all the Sony fanboys decided to go nuts and now again we have a new amounts of insults to X360 fanboys etc. But the question is (And the question to you guys) : How much will gamers get from that decision of Warner bros ?? I mean ... Even if HD DVD would win , 25 GB or 50 GB of Blu ray disc is only good for the gamers. And HD DVD for Xbox 360 was also there just for the movies. So how much will this decision affect us gamers ???

My regard to CheapyD and Wombat from very very far Slovenia (That is in Europe , we are neighbours to Italy if you do not know :D) !

A few of mine are -

Saints Row 2 - The game will support full co-op through the single player campaign

Fallout 3 - I have loved the last two Fallout RPG's and cant wait to play this one

Advance Wars : Days Of Ruin - The Advance Wars series is why I bought a GBA and DS. Wifi multiplayer!!!! I cant wait for this game.

25 GB or 50 GB of Blu ray disc is only good for the gamers.

Congrats on being the biggest idoit. The reason blu ray is winning is not actually picture quality from movies and it has nothing to do with games. It has everything to do with UNCOMPRESSED AUDIO which makes all the difference in the world to watching a movie. That is why the bigger size of a blu ray disk made all the difference. I have all 3 systems but I don't have the HD DVD player but I watched an HD DVD movie over a friends house(Transformers). I hope it comes to blu ray this summer. Also an alert to CheapyD, a lot of blu ray movies do have menus. Event the ones that don't do in a vague sort of way but that defines the experience of the blu ray.

I do look forward to the next cagcast. Cool videos of your child on youtube CheapyD.

Just started listening to the Cagcast and it's fun... I think both CheapyD and Wombat are in tune with the gaming community. It's good to hear criticism being directed at DLC and hopefully companies will listen and take note.

Did you know that there is a company out there, most famous for writing the game Battlesphere for the Atari Jaguar called 'Scatologic'. Look up scatology...

These guys were obsessed with urine and poop, so maybe they were a little further down the road to the crazy farm...

I have one request for you... please remind people about the CheapAssGamer Folding at Home Team, we're currently rated 250th team and climbing. Tell Marten to send me another PS3 and I might be able to catch him ;-)

Anyway, good work on the Cagcast, keep it up.

I have two questions if you don't mind Cheapy and Wombat.

I went to Gamestop the other night just picking up items where I saw a used PS3 advertisement for 449.99. I asked the Gamestop clerk if that was for the 60gb model or the 80gb model. He said it was for both, so interested in the 60gb model because of the PS2 backwards compatibility I asked if he had a 60gb PS3. He said he didn't but had 20gb models for 349.99. I thought about this, I can install a bigger drive and I don't need the wifi or the card reader. What do you guys think? Should I buy a 20gb PS3?

There is a new case by Lian Li for the xbox 360. This is suppose to cool and quite down your xbox 360. I build pcs and Lian Li is the best case maker in the world. This is the case at CES, http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/01/10/lian_li_answers_calls_from_xbox_360_owners/1

This case seems to solve all the problems for the xbox 360 overheating problems, but if you use this case you void your warranty. What do you think is it worth it? Should m$ maybe sell a case like this for a higher price?

CheapyD and Wombat,

I am going away on a trip in March which includes a long flight and some downtime. I have an old Gameboy Advance but I was thinking it might be time to step up to a DS or PSP. My question is which should I go with and what are the must have games for each system.

I know you both have said that you spend alot of time playing the DS and that neither of you end up playing the PSP much, so maybe I am answering my own question here, but it seems like some of the new features announced for the PSP might make it less of a no brainer question. Interested in your opinions.

Thanks!

I don't believe I've heard Cheapy say anything about No More Heroes, especially with his Japanese Wii and the game coming out so early over there. I thought that the "poop-to-save" system the game has would be a sure hit with Cheapy.

If you haven't played it, why do you think the recent ubisoft/1up fracas hasn't been getting as much attention as Gerstmann-gate? Naturally, it's because it's more interesting when people do the wrong thing, but shouldn't this make people wonder why 1up was the ONLY one ubisoft is too cool for?

Hey Cheapy, just checking out your flickr photos and listening to the CAGcast at the same time and I have to say that your CAG hat really does suit you, and also are your games all in a mess in the background because your are organising games to send to the troops?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/cheapyd/2201791842/

And don't you think that the xbox original games on xbox live are stupidly priced because they are around $15 and take up space on your hard drive when you could just go out and buy the game in a store for cheaper and have no space taken on your hard drive (except for save space but that doesn't really count).

Cheapy, a your man in Japan question:

I asked this question over the summer but it was never answered, so I must ask again. You mentioned a few times about how you went to the movie theatre in Japan. How does the movie theatre in Japan work? Are there English subtitles and Japanese language tracks? Are the movies in English with Japanese subtitles? Do you get special headphones with the English language track?

Thanks for the answer, and keep up the great work Cheapy and Womabt.

Nephlabobo

I can answer this! The movies are in English with Japanese subtitles. And ridiculously expensive. I took a date to see Mr. & Mrs. Smith in Japan and it cost about $35 for two tickets. Not including popcorn.

EDIT - Animated movies are generally in Japanese with NO English subtitles whatsoever, which is a bit of a drag.

Hey Cheapy & Wombat,

This is an inquiry about the current process involved in the development and release of "movie-games", whereby the people working on the game are forced to push out a premature turd in line with the release of its celluloid namesake, all to satiate the demands of the market. This has resulted in more shit than shine (Batman and Superman, anyone... anyone...) and now gamers wallow in doubt and despair whenever anything is announced that might turn out great but will turn out steaming, with "100% dust collecting-ready" printed on the front of the case (Iron Man, maybe). My question thus emerges: "Do you think the industry should re-think its development process, or is the potential loss in sales simply too much of a detractor for the possibility of change?"

P.S. Wombat,

I also have a man crush on Alton Brown of Good Eats. And it deepens ever-so-slightly upon every viewing. Never enough to turn me gay, but if it wasn't for that chick from Nickelback, I'd be riding the rainbow rollercoaster live, no choice.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

If my above question isn't picked I also would like to know what you guys think about Geoff Keighley's brave attempt at enlightening the average non-gamer on Fox about an issue which has been ridiculously and perversely misinterpreted by the mainstream, and which, due to its topical relevance, results in misinformed media journalists (also print journalists, I should say) pulling "facts" and figures out of their asses (although the lead anchorwoman did peruse the Mass Effect website for a couple seconds) just for the ratings. My question thus emerges:

"Should the educated continue their attempts to appeal to the uneducated, or is Keighley's experience on Fox a window into the current socio-political sphere, where our 15 seconds of logic is drowned out by the people who control the major news outlets and their panel of objective people, who unanimously conclude that they will not let the trash that is Mass Effect into their houses?" Jerks... them not you guys... the people at Fox I mean...not Keighley, the people who where bullying him... the smiling bitch with the Psychology degree is who I mean...

If you were a fan of Grand Theft Auto (you might be, I don't know, that's why I put 'IF') how much would you be willing to pay for each of GTAIV's downloadable content on the 360? And what do you think they'll actually be priced at?

i totally agree with daphatty. video games are so mainstreamed now than before that every news media will try to pick on it without even doing research on the subject. i think jack thompson had a big effect on this issue. i mean movies and books have done these sort of fantasy and controversy but yet nobody ever mentions it. what it comes down to is that its probably a great news item. and its something that will put fear in the hearts of the audience that are watching the show. which is something that that media is all about.

i'd also want to know both of your opinion as to whether or not we should have a one console future.

Hey guys,

So we all saw the Fox News Mass Effect clip, Wombat even posted a blog post (Wombat, quick plug your blog again here) about it...and they talk about rating games, etc. One person asks why Mass Effect was not rated AO.

Anyway though, here is my question - how old do you have to be to buy an "unrated" movie from say Best Buy, etc? I did a basic search for this and could not find anything. As a parent, etc, I think I would be more concerned that my kid could go buy the "sexier" or "too extreme for theatres" version of a movie than if they could buy an M rated game. In a movie it is easy to see the sex or violence, just watch the thing, if my kid could play through and get to the sex scene in Mass Effect, I think many would consider him/her pretty damn smart for their age. Thoughts?

Hey Cheapy and Wombat, I remember you two were talking about Warhawk a few shows ago and that brought to mind the 1.2 update the game got last month, which pretty much fixes every problem with the server side of the game that you two had. So I was wondering if there's any chance you two would be giving it another shot and seeing if you can stick around with the game?

Also, I noticed on GameStop's website that Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is now $40 after Cheapy complained that it was $60 before. Is there any change in opinion on the game with this new price? What do you think about Sony pricing Patapon, the PSP rhythm-strategy game, at $20 instead of the normal $30 or $40 price tags you see PSP games at these days?

Cheapy and Wombat,

Last week you discussed a couple of "bad demos" (Burnout and Club). On the flip side, you have demos like Pacman Championship Edition for XBLA. I can never recall seeing THAT many naysayers do a complete a 180 on a game after playing the demo. What are some demos that got you excited for a game that you previously had no interest in? Also, what advice would you give developers to avoid the dreaded "bad demo"?

for the inquiry on whether or not one could be a hardcore gamer and only own the wii. i am that gamer, though i do own the ds as well.

to me, the biggest factor is-
almost everything i'm missing out on is either a fps or an rpg. and i don't care for either of these genres. but for gamers who love these genres, a wii alone would obviously leave them unsatisfied.

Here's a good one, what was the FIRST video game, either of you have played?

Or, what is your earliest gaming memory.

My earliest gaming memory is the hours it took for my dad to figure out how to hook up the NES to our old TV when I was about 4 years old.

On the TV ad for Advance Wars: Days of Ruin they used quotes about the game from gaming websites Kotaku and UGO. Now this is a bit on the conspiracy side but do you think that the quote and the fact that UGO put up some money for the New York event (like Wombat said) has anything to do with each other? A "if you scratch my back..." sort of deal.

Hello Cheapy and Wombat,
Great show as always. Cheapy, I’m hoping you can look into this since you have contacts with Play Asia. It looks like they have just put up Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-43-49-en-70-2jtb.html) for pre-order for only $35 (which I think is a steal for any CAGer). I’m very interested in purchasing this but I have 2 questions: 1) I’m assuming it will play on my US ps3 because it looks like the game is for the US/Canada systems, right? 2) I’m also assuming that if it is for the US than it will have English audio, correct? It would be great if you could contact Play-Asia about this and update us on the next podcast. I and I’m sure other CAGs would like to know about this.

ps. also if this is the US/Canada version of the game any word on it comming out here in the states?

I don't think the number of titles for the Wii is really the problem for most 'average' gamers. Gamers that work a busy work week, and only get to play games on the weekend. Even then, they can't really play games a *lot* on the weekend, as they have other obligations.

While I couldn't suggest the system as the sole gaming system for anyone who plays games a lot, I could easily suggest the system for people who gamed moderately. Wii Sports, Wii Play, Guitar Hero III, Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime III, Zelda, Mario Galaxy, No More Heroes, and soon Super Smash Bros. Brawl are more than enough to keep most occational gamers busy.

I expect a surge in Wii popularity with the release of Smash Bros. Brawl. Make no mistake, this is the Wii's Halo 3 moment. Now if Nintendo could just get enough Wiis out there to meet demand...

Oh, and to be honest, I'd suggest hardcore gamers get a PC. Even though there are constant stories about dropping PC Gaming sales, I have yet to find any console FPS that matches the experience of a mouse and keyboard. Prime 3 was kind of close with it's control scheme, but no cigar. Plus, PC prices are plummeting, and the PC has far more uses than just as a gaming system.

Hey guys.

I've joined CAG not too long ago and recently started listening to the CAG Cast (started at CAG #98) and found each episode very entertaining, funny and informative. I've never missed an episode since. And actually look forward to downloading the CAG Cast everyweek.

I was just wondering if you guys can go over your history and relationship together for the listeners like me who don't know much about you guys. i.e., Were you guys childhood friends? (because it seems like it). Where did you guys work prior to this? Did you guys work together prior to making this site? What about with the Shipwrecks? What made you start this site? What made you (Cheapy) move to Japan? And etc.

I think it would be great if you guys went over this on air so that people like me who don't know much about you guys can get a better perspective and enjoy your shows even more.

Thanks guys. Keep up the good work.

Reading Wombat's post on UGO about the most anticipated DS games of 2008 made me eager to get another DS. I sold my phats in anticipation of the lite, but didn't get around to getting one. At this point I feel like the next DS revision is coming so soon, that I might as well wait.
What are your thoughts on the new DS revision? Will you get it? Does the loss of GBA compatibility matter? Personnally, I could give 2 shits about backwards compatibility on any system. hey cheapy D and wombat, i recently decided to give the xbox originals a go. i purchased fable in anticipation of fable 2 but what i realized is not only are these originals over priced and to most people, they are useless but they have bugs-a-plenty. Most of the game is alright but there are longer load times then the original xbox versions and every once and a while the sounds goes nuts and pops really load or sounds as if a record is being scratched as well as texture problems and an overall slugish feel. when do u guys think companies like microsoft will begin to fix products before release, rather then put them out there and get ready for backlash?

Dear Cheapy and Wombat:

Sony Defense Force is a *dry satire* website. It parodies Sony fanboys, but does so by staying just barely on the side of belivability most of the time.

Then you have posts like this (http://www.sonydefenseforce.com/?p=322) that clearly step over the line and make the satire clear.

So if you wonder why the whole episode seemed to rediculous and over the top and unbelievable, that's because it is.

Look up DNS info. Look at other info. You'll find it's strangely obfuscated. (Its DNS, for example, uses a GoDaddy Proxy.) If it was a real fanboy site, why would thy hide that stuff?

You spent a bunch of time ranting about a post which was, in fact, bait to get you to react. You've been had, son.

Cheers,

Cheapy D and Wombat,

I am a 36-year old married male with a full-time job. I am also an avid gamer, way back to the Telstar Arcade. I currently own an Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PSP, DS and their predecessors. Herein lies the problem. So many great games, but not enough time. This will get worse once I have kids. As a result, I tend to gravitate towards games that provide a “quick videogame fix” such as fighting games, wrestling games, sports games, and racing games where you can play a few minutes and be on your merry way. But, I am missing out on all those great platform/storyline games that require a much greater time commitment. I’ve tried to play these games “casually”, but always manage to get stuck – not knowing what to do, where to go, or what to find to get to the next level. Ninja Gaiden for the original Xbox comes to mind, as I was stuck trying to beat a boss and couldn’t advance to the next level (a level select feature would have been nice). I know I can look on the internet for solutions to all my questions, but that just kills the experience for me as my PC is on the other side of the house. Another thing that hinders me is the lack of a save anywhere feature in games, so that you can pick up where you left off, even if it is in the middle of a level (Madden for the PSP has this feature, but its missing from the console versions). Developers should consider adding these features for us casual gamers (a casual gamer mode?), who are more concerned about experiencing a game rather than beating it and finding everything that there is to find. Every game should have a level select, an ad-hoc invincibility code, a hint mode (where you can ask for hints for what to do/find/kill to move to the next level), and a save anywhere feature. An un-lock everything mode would also be great for racing, fighting, sports games as well. You used to be able to enter cheat codes and/or download game save files to unlock everything, but these are getting scarcer and scarcer in light of achievement points and micro-transactions. I would buy so many more games if these features were included. What are your thoughts on this and do you have any suggestions of games that have these features or at least allow you to save at any point. I have Gears of War, Resistance Fall of Man, and COD4 and find that the levels are short enough so that I can actually play these games a half hour at a time. Thanks, and I love the CagCast and CheapAssGamer.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

I don't know whether it was both of you or just Cheapy who downloaded the Classic Rock Pack in Guitar Hero 3 but I am a little concerned about the pack advertising Jukebox Hero as a master track. Have you listened to that particular track yet? I'm positive that the track that is in Guitar hero 3 is not the original Foreigner track. Everything sounds completely different, yet Activision's advertising states that it's the master recording from 1981. It's not. Have a Listen.

Master 1981 Track:

$500 video cards?

That's the kind of line most console players would rattle off. Fortunately for PC gamers, it's far from true. You can pick up a decent PC graphics card for about $100, and a *great* PC graphics card for $200. Anything above it is really just buying a luxary item.

As for why PC gaming is failing, look no further than Microsoft and their backstabbing to see the real reason behind this entire situation. Games for Windows has failed to deliver on what it promised to, they locked DirectX 10 into an OS that nobody wants, and they've *still* not done anything about integrating game copy protection into Windows.

Why would they do that when they get fat royalities on every single game sold on the 360? The problem with PC gaming is that the current entity that controls PC gaming, which is Microsoft. Apple still doesn't seem to be interested in attracting gamers to Macs, and Linux gaming is still somewhat of a joke.

Luckily for us PC Gamers, there is Valve, and they might force Microsoft's hand when it comes to making them pay attention to PC Gaming. Note that those dismal PC Games sales didn't account for game sales over Steam, which has really picked up in the past few years. Valve continues to give PC gamers what they want, and the more gamers get locked in with Valve, the more MS loses control of that market. That PC Gaming control is important for MS's Windows monopoly, so they can't let their control over PC gaming slip too far.

Furthermore, PC gamers aren't like console gamers. They tend to stick with the same game a lot longer. For example, PC FPS games are immediately modded by the PC gaming community, and new content is put out constantly after release. The console market is locked in to whatever the publishers put out originally. As a console gamer, you'd need to consistently refresh content ( buy new games ) in order to keep it interesting.

Occasionally you mention games your are playing that you picked up in Japan. I was wondering if you could maybe make a weekly or bi-weekly segment on what is new in Japan and if they are playable for non-Japanese speaking (spouse having) gamers?

I was really interested in the Pocket Baseball game you mentioned for the DS a few weeks back, but can't really tell if I would be able to muddle through not reading Japanese. So I thought this might be a good segment for the show.

Anyways, Cheapy and Wombat, my question is;

What old ass game from ANY console would have benefitted the MOST from having "Achievements?"

Because we all know that games from the NES era or even before that, were so damn awesome, despite the stupid amounts of collecting shit, fighting repetitive enemies, impossible bosses, and finding obscure as hell secret areas.

Like, imagine getting an achievement for finding one of those secret stores in Zelda that you had to find by just placing random-ass bombs everywhere.

Or imagine an achievement for a Castlevania game; "SHATTERED 1,000 candles"

I think some of these games' replay value would be awesome. That way you could prove to your friends that you actually DID beat Super Mario Bro's in 8 minutes...or whatever silly ass accomplishment...

Wombat, I know you have been hard on VF5 for trying to sell us game content already on the disc, but I think in this case the content has to be there for when you play online with someone who has not purchased and downloaded the content.

I'd never purchase Malibu Stacey paraphernalia for my Japanese luchador, but as a full grown man who enjoys playing dress up, do you think it's permissible for them to sell us content already on the disc when it doesn't affect gameplay? Hi Cheapy and Wombat,

What do you guys think of the new game, Frontlines: Fuel of War?

Being a big shooter fan i'm quite excited with this game. They claim to have over 60 vehicles, 32 online multiplayer via xbox live with dedicated servers and destructable structures like BF:Bad company. I also heard somewhere that they have a map the size of Saints Row and custom classes like COD4. They also introduced the concept of a frontline where team coordination is needed to push the lines in order to capture control points.

What do you guys think? Is this the COD4 killer or just another shooter with unnecessary features?

Seems like it to me.

Maybe I'm crazy, and maybe we really do need to support censorship through meaningless lawsuits like this one.
Any thoughts?

:applause:

4nik8tor, you rock.

I know this isn't a question for CheapyD or Wombat. I wanted to bring this up in the Thread for this cast, but it seems better to use you as an example. I don't think that I could fault you for taking the $35, I can't know what I would do in your situation, but I told myself I would do what you are thinking for the same reasons you stated.

The Mass Effect/Fox News statements, AND the XBOX Live Lawsuit statements that have been made recently would lead me to believe that CheapyD would be against this.

You stated it perfectly that taking this money is effectively supporting censorship. Who was hurt by this? Especially to the tune of $35?

Cheapy and Wombat, do you guys ever read the instruction booklets for games?

I always read the instruction booklets cover to cover before starting the game. I've always felt that it's part of the experience of the game. (I'm probably the only one, aren't I? lol)

I usually read booklets but only when I need to find something out about the game or when I am bored, so your not on your own there.

My Dearest CheapyD,
I recall on a recent CAGcast you were disheartened about the loss of attorney Phoenix Wright in the Ace Attorney series of games. Perhaps a slight oversight, perhaps you never knew: Phoenix Wright is in the game. Please see link video @ 1:28 for what lead me to this conclusion. Therefore, leading me to believe that this game and the Phoenix Wright games will, in fact, tie into each other. The question is this then: Will you purchase it if Phoenix Wright is in it?

Cheers,

Hiro_Antagonist
I don't feel like answering this on the show, but thought I'd just point out that I wasn't referring to that website when I used the term "Sony Defense Force". I was talking about specific posters on CAG.

Cheapy D and Wombat,

With the PS3 now at $399 with Spiderman BluRay, and the Premium 360 at $350 and no games(holiday bundles are mostly sold out), what do you see as the better value at this time. I'm hoping for an xbox price drop soon, but the ps3 is looking like a better deal with wi-fi, blu-ray and free online.

From what I'm seeing, there's been a new market for game engines with the next gen consoles. With the CryEngine 2 being shown at GDC I was not only excited for Crysis (on ps3/360) but for other games that may get to utilize the engine as well. How do you guys feel about the business of game engines?

Can you guys add a biggest Fanboy CAG award? [for ps3, 360, and Wii]

To add to the 'problem with PC Game sales'...

"Steam Tops 15M Users, 158% Sales Growth"

Steam is where a lot of the sales are going. Online game purchasing is real on the PC, and I think, perhaps real on the next generation of consoles.

Wombat might like it though and in my opinion is the best Tekken game yet.

Dear CheapyD and Wombat,

I've been a gamer from the time I was a three-year old with Super Mario Bros and have been a Nintendo fanboy from that time till now. I own a Wii, and I enjoy the Nintendo titles and what few quality third-party titles there are. I'm graduating from college in May and my fiance' said I can have an Xbox 360 or a PS3 for a present from her.

So, which one should I get? I know Cheapy really enjoys his 360 but I've also heard you all give a lot of positive comments to the PS3 and with Home coming out in the near future I am leaning further and further towards Sony. I'd really like your sage advice. Thanks and keep up the amazing shows. I listen to the CAG and Cagforplay Podcasts every week.

Let me start by saying your podcast is a savior. I just came upon you guys about a month ago and I love it. Have since listened to just about all your shows thus far. I play pro basketball overseas in France and you and Wombat are great, listening to you guys on my ipod on long ass road trips help me keep my sanity.
My question is since I am overseas, I am in the same sort of predicament you are in, relying on sites to watch movies and tv shows from the states that I miss while I am here. I have found a couple sites that let me watch Entourage, Heroes, The Office, etc. But some are better than others, while quality is an issue. What sites do you use to watch T V shows and moves?
Big thanks to both of you guys, keep up the good work

If you listened to the cagcast long enough you know that CheapyD and Wombat will both recommend that you get a 360. I would honestly look towards yourself and what you want out of gaming. Do you just want a gaming machine? Do you have an HDTV? If you have an HDTV that I would recommend the PS3 as a great Bluray player and dispite what CheapyD says there are quite a few good movies that don't start automatically when you put them in the player. Not many but there are a few. Video quality is 5 times better with a bluray against DVD but I feel the fact that they don't have to compress audio/video really shows though. That is where HDDVD failed by having to compress still. I do all of my online gaming on the 360. You pay 50 dollars a year and it's shows with the quality of online play. If you are not a fan on online play get the PS3, plus it has a web browser on it as well. Plus home is coming soon. :-) If you get either system most games are available on both. 360 was just out sooner so it has more games.

CheapyD? Have you ever tried playing Professional Baseball Spirts 4 on the PS3? I ordered it from play-asia just to see how a Japanese game would play on a US console and it worked quite well. I also ordered the dualshock 3 and love playing Devil May Cry 4 which the dual shock really works well with.

This is in response to the achievement discussion in CAGCast 106

When I was listening to Wombat talk about that he would rather have a big head mode than achievements, it made me wonder has the xbox achievement system given game makers an exuse to not put bonus materal into a game (like things you awarded)? because most gamers would rather have the gamerpoints insted of something that actually adds to the experiece.

Yo CheapyD, let me tell you somethin', let me tell you somethin'. I took a trip out of town over the weekend and had to use inferior American style barebones toilet seats several times. I ate some intense down home St. Louis food that gave me that kind of shit that's like freshly mixed cement, super dense and sticky, and then I did a whole lot of walking. Big time swamp ass. When I got home, the first thing I did -- even before I turned on the lights in my living room -- was sit down on my heated Toto toilet seat and give myself a spray. Oh, what a spray. It felt like home. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your partial responsibility for the introduction of the Japanese toilet seat into my daily routine.

I guess this isn't a question but you should read it on the "air" anyway.

one more question... Cheapy/Wombat what's your prognosis on the Sega situation. What do you guys feel is going to become of the company?

I was hoping that someone would buy them out, my first pic was for Sony to buy them out, because, out of the 3 competitors, they don't really have a mascot - Sonic supporting blu ray would be nice. If not Sony, Nintendo, or MS, then I'd like to see EA possibly purchase Sega, I think that would definitely make them just as powerful as the MS, Sony and Nintendo, basically fulfilling the dream that Sega set out for when they decided to be a software only company. EA could definitely benefit from Sega Am-2, and that secret sword based fighter that they had in the works secretly.

Cheapy, you have mentioned that you are a huge Howard Stern fan. Who is your favorite character on the show past or present and what is your most memorable moment/story from the show? I personally think Artie Lange is hilarious and almost any of his stories from his coke days are timeless. His revelation where he took a load on the chest almost had me driving off the road.

On that topic you mentioned that Wombat had some contacts with the show. It would be great to get one or both of you on there sometime. They routinely rip one of the staff members for playing 360 online against 'a bunch of 10 year olds' while his wife is upstairs taking care of their kids. Meanwhile Stern is TiVo'ing 10 hours a night of reality TV to watch as you pointed out. They often have some interesting guests on from time to time so it would be great if CAG could get some love on there? You need to make an appearance happen.

I usually read booklets but only when I need to find something out about the game or when I am bored, so your not on your own there.

I used to do that, but with games like CoD4 having instruction manuals that don't really offer a reference point (really, there's no mention of throwing back grenades, or anything). I guess instructions on 'basic controls' and 'how to insert the disc' are all we need, anymore.

What are your thoughts of the explosion of puzzle games over the past 2 years. Before the DS and Xbox Arcade (PSN to a lesser extent) the puzzle genre was a dying breed but now puzzle games are as big as ever. Heck I find myself playing Poker Smash and Proffesor Layton more than CoD4, Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect.

Should we atribute this growth to casual games or simply that devlopers are taking the time to create fresh ideas on tried and true formulas and we are seeing better puzzle games as a result?

My good friend Cheapy -

You've mentioned quite a few times, including this past show, that you believe the majority of people who write about games for a living are disposable since so many people want the job, and ultimately that's why you don't think the recent Gamespot departures, etc., are a particularly big deal.

I just want to clarify something, and bring up a point that hopefully makes for a good discussion springboard on the CAGcast. First off, while indeed many people want to write about games for a living, and many people are excellent writers, those two contingents rarely overlap. It's incredibly tough to find talented writers who want to spend their lives writing about games. You know where I work, and I've helped a couple other places look for writers before, and it's really hard to find good candidates. As much as it might be a dream job for many, it's a really tough position to fill.

Though most of the time, readers wouldn't notice. I applaud you for encouraging listeners to read the text of reviews, but the sad reality is that most people only care about the scores (and bickering over them on message boards). If there's a problem here, it's with the audience; regardless of what kind of stable of quality writers we stock and how much care and time we put into something (even more so for older demographic-skewing sites like The Escapist), most readers would rather read a sensationalist news story on a blog. Until readers start demanding quality, or at least recognizing it where it exists, writers ARE disposable on your end of things as a reader, even it's a damn hard thing to maintain on our end. We as the gaming media have a host of other problems to remedy, certainly, and said quality is by no means universal, but this one isn't on our shoulders.

Hmm, I guess there wasn't really a question there. Anyhow, discuss if you like.

Gentlemen (I use that term loosely :D)

1) I've been listening since about CAG Cast #8 and although I've heard some stories about you wonderful spouses I haven't really heard how you met them. Cheapy, how does a gigantic. bald white dude land a Japanese lawyer-lady? There has to be a story there . . . And what about you Wombat? For a video-game-lovin', comic book nerd (like me :D) who can't seem to find a satisfying job you seem to have done pretty well for yourself too. What is they story there?

2) For Wombat, have you found any of the Absolute Editions put out by DC worthy of buying for yourself? I've picked up Watchmen and one of the Sandman editions and am amazed at home much I still enjoy the stories, even more so in the improved format.

Love the show! It is the only 'cast that has held my attention more than 3 episodes (and I think I am about to hit 100 CAGcasts listened to myself).

Thanks

Hey, Wombat and Cheapy. Just wanted to know if either of you voted in the Super Tuesday primary. I'm not asking who you voted for, of course -- just if you bothered to cast a vote. I asked a lot of my friends about it and I was pretty astonished at how many of them either didn't bother, or (in the case of some people who were out of state at the time) didn't even know they could. And these are people who all have fairly strong political opinions.

Also, Cheapy -- How do you stay up on U.S. news and politics in Japan? Do ever read the U.S. coverage in the English-language Japanese newspapers, or do seek out U.S. sources online?

I'm enjoying this new server setup, by the way. Blazing fast.

Since you guys give such good travel advice I had a question. This summer my family and I will be going to South Korea to the Seoul/Yongsan area. I was wondering if you had ever been there Cheapy and if you recommend a place to eat, or anything that someone just has to do while they are there.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

Another great show, keep up the good work!

Over the past few CAGcast's, you and Wombat have discussed Microsoft's Achievement points and Sony's upcoming Trophy's. While they currently have no 'real' value, what do you think about making these Achievement points the currency of XBLA and PSN?

I know that Microsoft and Sony probably love the easy income they receive from the arcade titles, but what better way to encourage consumers to purchase more actual $60 titles than allow them to be rewarded for progressing through the games?

They could even keep the same point values for arcade titles, as 800 points would no longer equal $10, but instead equal a near fully completed $60 game. In many 360 games, the average gamer wouldn't be able to get all 1000 Achievement points, so there would be a decent balance in terms of how much they could actually earn. On the other hand, the hardcore gamer with a large 360 or PS3 library could feel somewhat compensated for all the hours they have put into their games.

What do you guys think?

if you went on, i'm sure it would expand the cag community, which deserves more attention. and it would also hopefully lessen some of the bad feelings between the two sites. which would be great for me, as i enjoy both ign and cag.

Hey Cheapy,

I have recently been looking into getting surround sound for my gaming/movie watching.

I know many times you have recommended the Logitech 5500 set since they work great and are also inexpensive. I have looked and agree they look to be a price I would be fine with spending.

My question is, what do I have to do to make them work? I have never setup a surround sound before, and maybe a quick walk through would be great.

Can they hook directly into my tv, or will I need a receiver to make them work with my 360/PS3/Wii and for watching movies or tv?

Also, do they connect wirelessly to everything, or will I need to run wires throughout my living room?

Thanks a lot for your time, and I love the show :)!

I have to say, I'm a bit pissed off about the lack of PC coverage on your show. PC's are still huge sources of revenue and plenty of people play them so to not cover them and pretend you address their needs by mentioning crysis once in a show is not right.

I know you don't have a PC. You have a mac. PC's especially powerful ones are really affordable, they are no consoles of course but still.

You too wombat, you don't even need any PC training to learn how to build a good one.

Just get a dell, buy an 8800GT and put it in there.

Just because you're used to just being able to put a disc in a console and expecting it to work is not a reason you shouldn't try it out.

Without cheating, do either Cheapy or Wombat know the "universal greeting" from Transformers: The Movie (not the new one, that would be 'Do you Yahoo?' or some other trendy bullshit)?

Also, regarding the surround sound question above, what kind of receiver do you have, Cheapy? Do I need one to go with that Logitech set you recommended?

Greetings and Salutations CheapyD and Wombat. I'm a huge fan of the show it's never failed to disappoint even when I didn't agree.

In CAGcast #103 you implied that the Wii couldn't do as the solo console of a hardcore gamer*. As a longtime Nintendo fan this is depressing to hear. Even more so because I agree. How would you change the Wii to make it suitable for solo console status?
Here are my ideas
Space - I wouldn't put 512mb of space in a phone. It's ridiculous to have anything less than say 5gigs. Between DLC and VC Nintendo can't standby their 'console as an iPod' theory**.
Nintendo takes a risk - noone ones to try making proper Wii games because of the risk factor that's why we get Trainiers & Minigames. If Nintendo would start with something like say the canceled Project H.A.M.M.E.R. Maybe other developers would get their minds correct and start making Wii games for the traditional gamer. Noone wants to go up against Mario, Zelda or Metroid so maybe new IPs.
More DS connectivity - we were littered with GBA connectivity in the NGC era. GBAs were pretty popular but DS is even more popular. Now that you don't need the extremely UNPOPULAR link cable I'd really appreciate getting some sort of bonus for linking up a DS. Finding four friends with GBA and four connect cables for Four Swords was impossible. With the DS it could be fun.
Colors - Maybe I've vain but those cool colors we saw at E3 should be out by now.The DS is so close to perfect that's not much I would change.
I'd like to get rid of 'the gap. One of the most annoying things about Metroid Pinball was losing track of my ball in the gap. The other was my girlfriend completely destroying my score.
On board storage - Being able to download DS demos is great. Losing them as soon as you turn off the DS isn't.* I presume we define the HCG as someone who isn't in the casual/new gamer section. Just beause i'm not a graphics whore doesn't make me less hardcore.
** Source: No need for Wii hard drive, says Nintendo (again) (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=174835)
"The way that we look at it is, we really don't want people storing every single game they buy on their drive," said NOA PR manager, Eric Walter. "When you buy a game, it's yours forever, so you can delete it, and go back and get it at any time you want. In a way, we liken it to putting music on your iPod; you listen to it for a while, and then you get tired of it, and you pull it off, and you put some new stuff on."

Note to Sidtalk re: her nephew wanting a cheap 360:
Why don't you chip in the $100 for your nephew? Sounds like he already has a handle on the value of money (for an 11 year old). I'd do this for one of my 3 nephews to save them from the crippled version of the console.

I know you're a CAG Sidtalk, but he's your nephew--show him some love.

Hey cheapy and wombat,

I just saw Cheapy's interview in BBC-asia regarding the stituation of the format wars. The thing that bothered me is that there was no mention of cheapassgamer.com. The BBC guys simply said "Thats David Abrams of CAGcast japan"(something like that). It could have been a big plug to the site and the podcast. Of course BBC would never want the word ASS flashed on their screen.

Did you ever think of making changes, so that cheapassgamer.com would be more accepted in mainstream media? maybe using other links like cagcast.com or cheapyd.com . I'm sure that you'll have more interviews like this and it would be great if you can capitalize on the exposure.

Hey guys,

Lost: Via Domus is coming out soon (2/26) and I'm really surprised at the pricing model they've adopted. PS3 and 360 versions of the game are $60, while the PC version is only half as much at $30. The game is a single-player only experience, so aside from getting to sit on the couch, what's the advantage of going with the console versions? As a CAG who games on console and PC, I know I'm going for the PC version just to save the money.

Any thoughts on this deviation from the standard $50 PC / $60 PS3 / $60 360 model in favor of "bargain" pricing on the PC? Why not go bargain across the board?

Hey CheapyD,

On the most recent CAG episode you talked about Dark Messiah and how they had downloadable content on the market place prior to the games release. This got me thinking... we know game developers tend to run behind schedule and the first release dates we hear are frequently pushed back. My question is this: If a game developer is approaching their deadline and doesn't have some parts of a game finished, do you think they would make the decision to leave those parts out of the game and release them as DLC, rather than push the entire games release date back? I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

Cheapy and Wombat,

Recently, the "PC Gaming is dead" arguement has come out of the closet and is rearing its ugly head around town. Have you guys played any PC games recently and do you agree with the statement.

While I believe that it is not the superior force that it once was, I think that it is far from dead. I think people tend to realize that the European market is still a huge place for PC gaming. Even Crysis which sold below expectations here, sold huge in Europe, and was pushed above one million units according to an Electronic Arts financial call recently.

Hey CheapyD.

I listened to a recent podcast of yours with Wombat. You mentioned your wonder about how Kotaku gets more Web Traffic than the much higher maintenance 1up.com. Basically you said that it surprised you that a site that barely paid significant salaries to its workers was beating out 1up.

Well your comment made me think what follows, and I would like to know what you think:

1. People only go to Kotaku to get the latest in gaming news, and little else, as it is one of the fastest sites to get the news. Thus the high traffic. But they split themselves up amongst the sites they like for content relating to games: Game reviews, retrospectives, and features. Hence, why 1up is below Kotaku. IGN beats out Kotaku only because of its higher Google presence, and its larger variety of content (not only gaming related subsections).

2. Advertisers pay more for their advertisements on 1up than Kotaku as the audience is much more diverse and desirable on 1up than on Kotaku. Also, the advertisements are much more well done than on Kotaku.

3. 1up is also a print publication, with a web side component, and thus it offers once again a more attractive advertising (print and online) package for its sponsors, and thus its ability to pay its staff.

Cheapy D, Wombat included, I highly recommend picking up Sid Meier's Pirates! off the Live Marketplace. At $15 you are guaranteed a simple, addicting, and throughly enjoyable game that will entertain for multiple playthroughs. Just ask Mrs. Shipwreck, as she comments lengthily about the game in the most recent CAG Foreplay.

Hey Cheapy,

This is more of a comment than a question. I was just listening to CAGcast # 107 and at one point Wombat points out that you sound like Howard Stern. This is something I noticed a while ago. Here are some Sternisms that you use a lot:
1) Asking "ReaAAllly?" a lot with that inflection of tone. Stern does that all the time
2) Talking about "doodie." Not only does Howard love to do this also, but he also likes to refer to it as "doodie."
3) Burping during the broadcast. That seems to have slipped out a bit more in recent CAGcasts.
4) Ending long conversations on a topic that you've lost interest in with "Who cares about _____?"
5) Insulting your co-workers. Basically, Wombat is your Bababooey.

Hey Cheapy,

Have you ever seen the show on G4 called Ninja Warrior? Besides being quite the crazy Japanese competition, G4 now seems to be more concerned with this type of import game show than actual video games.

On Ninja Warrior, old and young men alike attempt to "defeat" an extremely challenging obstacle course, and on some episodes, not a single person completes the course. A lot of the contestants build makeshift courses in their backyard or at their local park. What do you think about building a course and training Tai to be the next Ninja Warrior?

I'm finding it quite common to hear the number one complaint of game reviewers is that their constitutants focus too much on the score. I think however that games journalists are shooting themselves in the foot. A 100 point scale is insane. Writers want a score to reflect in a general sense how the writer feels about the game. The problem with this is when you have a 100 point scale I shouldn't need to read the article anymore. What exactly constitutes the difference between a 68 and a 69? or 6.8 vs 6.9 if you will. What happens is exactly what we see. Most games get rated on the 6 to 9 range. One of the things I liked about X-Play when I watched TV was for the most part they stuck to a 5 point scale. 3 for most games, 4 for good games and 5 for must buys. How good is good? Read the article.

Story: I went in for an interview earlier this week and during some informal part of the interview, we discussed gaming. This woman who as interviewing me explained that her four-year-old son is playing WoW with his dad. He's four years old, he can't even read yet! He asks his mom how to spell "herbalism" and he'll put the right keys in order to form the word. I'm impressed that the mom is that open to gaming, but still....

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

First off, I applaud you for your website and podcast....

But, I am kind of confused as to why you do it. You both seem to dislike games, let alone talking about them on a weekly basis. Some episodes back, Cheapy talked about how he had never played Mario 64, this week he's disinterested in Super Smash Bros Brawl. Wombat hates Patapon and dubs every game MOTS. Neither of you really seem to ever have time to actually play games, and are consistently mixing games up, confusing what you're talking about, etc.

On this last show, you guys bashed SSBB for being MOTS, as you bash some game each week for being MOTS....then you go onto to ask why Need For Speed "couldn't just refine instead of retool". Unfortunately guys, they are doing just what you ask for each week....giving you something new.

It just seems that you don't honestly LIKE game that much, and sort of have an undecided and complain-y type attitude to all games except the ONE that you each like: Wombat, Oblivion, and CheapyD, FPS's.

Also, on the game journalists just rehashing news, why don't you try reading any gaming magazine, like EGM or GameInformer. Most of their stories are of the investigative or feature type, with interviews, etc., etc., not just simple news rehashes. Of course ridiculous blogs are just going to go over recent news and overblown review scores, but I'm not sure those people should be considered game journalists, as they are just bloggers.

Thanks for hearing me out, and keep up the good work!

Hey Cheapy and Wombat!
Have you guys noticed how rhythm-based gameplay has become more and more commonplace lately? It has almost gotten to the point where every game has to have some rhythm-based minigame or something tied into it to help it sell. I'm not complaining 100%, because in all honesty I have fun with them, but I guess my question is, when Tai gets to be old enough to start playing games, and you tell him "you know, around the time you were born, we were all obsessed with playing games about MUSIC," do you think he will laugh in your face, or do you think rhythm games are more than just a trend.

Hey Cheapy, a quick question. Since Japan has a "super-net" compared to most of the U.S, and you seem to use your "Free T.V downloading service" quite a bit. I was wondering, what the hell are your average speeds like? They have to be crazy compared to my measly 80-90 kb/s max.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat, what do u guys think of the new game from Realtime Worlds(the creators of Crackdown) APB? All Points Bulletin........it seems like a MMO Crackdown, quite impressive is they accomplish what they are trying to do with that game.

-Yipwoop

While I get the references to Stern, I see the show more like Free Radio without the celeberity guests.

((This question goes to both but asked more directly to Cheapy.))

Hi Cheapy and Wombat. Cheapy you've mentioned that you took some Japanese lessons before moving and I assume more after? Have you tried 'Rosette Stone' it is supposed to be a very good language learning system used by the US Gov. and while its a little expensive you might be able to get it cheaper on eBay. Either of you used it? Any feedback? If not it might be worth a shot.

Always aiming to help, Avid.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

What do you think are the chances of an actual online MMORPG (besides Final Fantasy) coming to the 360? I know there are tons of RPGs out there such as Dark Messiah and Fable, however, they are only single player or maybe even co-op at best. If an online MMORPG came out for the 360 without a monthly fee, would it peak your interest? I myself am definitely wishing for an online MMORPG similar to WoW or Guild Wars to hit the 360. For so many people that have the 360, I'm surprised something like this hasn't been done yet.

Hello CheapyD & Wombat,

Im a new member on the Cheapassgamer site and I have a silly question:

CheapyD, why are you in Japan in the first place and what type of work do you do ?

I checked the CAGwiki and aside from your real name, there wasn't much meat to you "bio".

just curious, love the cagcast, keep 'em coming !

Hey Cheapy! Sadly, your xbox has gotten the RROD; at least the video of it was entertaining. I'm curious to know what kind of motherboard you had or if you know which one it was. Will you be using the towel trick to get the chipset to reset it and get some play out of it for bit longer. I don't know how well that actually works.

Since either way you might be xbox-less for a while you be using this time to catch up on PS3 and Wii games that have been devoid of attention.

Hey Cheapy, I have to say that I was happy to see that you made a new video on YouTube and I wasn't happy to see that another one of your 360s has bit the dust. I've noticed that you keep your 360 vertical so when you buy your next one, try putting it horizontal under your TV on top of the cabinet instead of in the cabinet to get more air to it. This might be enough to save your 360.

Also, is the Guinness Book Of Records: Gamer's Edition out in Japan and is it available in Engrish. Hopefully you can pick up a copy. I'll probably be getting one this week from my local games retailer.

Thanks man, can't wait for the next CAGcast :D

Yeah an MMORPG would be very cool on the 360, BUT as we all know 360s are prone to red ringing after many hours of play and we also all know that some people can get seriously addicted to MMORPG games to the point of losing their jobs or losing something else (this mainly applies to lonely people). If it was a seriously well known game like Final Fantasy then this would lead to alot of angry red eyes winking at gamers across the globe.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

I just wanna say that I've been experiencing some degrees of separation. I used to be a friend of DeceptiCreep on Xbox Live, we had some fun on Uno many moons ago but never got much action after that. But I've been throughly surprised how he's been a regular on your website and sending multiple CAG bag questions (3 so far as I've heard). It's a small world where I hear someone on my friends list getting mentioned in my favorite podcast - I even sent him a message in the middle of listening to a podcast, excitedly telling him that I'm also a fan of the CAG Cast.

Anyway, I just wanted to see what he thinks about this, and just wanted to say hey. So Cheapy and Wombat, have you ever experienced any sort of web community freakiness, where you thought "It's a small world"?
