I am in college, and I have never had a real job before.
Next semester I want to get a part time job so I can have some extra money to buy gas, games, CDs, a snake, and other stuff that people buy with money.

So, what are the best job fora college kid to get?

Locally there are many part time jobs.

pet store (employee discount on snake? I love animals)
game store (employee discount on games? but I hate people)
grocery store (eh)
countless retail stores like target (like I said, I hate people)

So... any advice?

I am a scout leader, eagle scout, leadership blah blah, etc.

Typically college towns don't have restaurants at which working as a busboy would pay really well. In my experience with college jobs, the on campus jobs offered by the school are the best. You can find a pretty good wage for a job that is very flexible and often very easy. Library jobs, help desks, student information centers, etc. tend to be really easy, giving you free time to do homework, of if you have access to one, work/play on the computer.

If you are anywhere near a Meijer, they are unionized. By far, the most high paying job for a student, that has flexible hours for college, that doesn't require ANY real work.

It might help if you said what college...so if people in that area/from that school saw this thread, they'd know a little more.

You probably don't want to be a waiter. College kids don't tip for shit. I would recommend working somewhere on campus. They pay relatively well, and sometimes give scholarships. There is a small work load which lets you study while working.

I'm not sure if this will work at a Community College, but you might want to ask someone about it (especially when you make it to Charlottesville)

Federal Work Study jobs often get turned to real jobs if you do real good and they don't expect someone to fill the position any time soon. 9.50 start to 10.50 for a Comp Tech Assistant Job (I had to install software, windows, and antivirus, while listening to music, chatting online and downloading music)

My advice is be one of the people who call alumni and ask for money. A lot of my friends did this in college. It pays pretty well $8.00 - $10.00 an hour and you get tons of bonuses usually, like an extra dollar if they pay with a credit card, or extra money if you work during exam week. I haven't really heard any complaints about it.

I'll probably apply for a job at the pet store or the school bookstore. Thanks for the suggestions!
