Target Earth for the Genesis.

The only game where you NEEDED to put god mode on in order to have fun, and once you did it was really really fun! I loved that game.

Leave it to evilmax, garage sale master, to get it. Target Earth is one of my favorite Genesis games ever, and the hardest, till my brother and I found out all you had to do was hit the start button on controller 2 to get invinsibility and the option to control the enemy.

Those are Genesis launch titles, if you go with the September 15th, 1989 release.
The Genny was available in NY and LA on January 9th, 1989.

What bothered me about it was the emphasis on throwing your opponent down. Not so interested in grabbing... I'm more interested in just beating the shit out of my opponent a la Street Fighter.

I dunno, having a close up of Tommy Lasorda's face starring at me is kind of appealing. In fact, my roomates and I proudly display the cartridge on our television.

Correct. I believe the last time I tried running it on a Pentium system, it ran way too fast to be playable.

And the first one is Pipes. The things that stand out the most to me about that game were the sound effects, especially the walking sound.

Very much right, but I never played it on the commodore. The version I'm familiar with I played on the atari 800 5 inch floppy drive, the games look similar, but the atari version has better graphics. For the life of me I couldn't find a screenshot of that version and my copy won't work anymore..sadness

Hmm... never heard of it. Was it any good? I played a lot of platformers for the 64.

It was good, but hard. The object of the game was to collect treasures, and there was an annoying bird that would try to grab and carry you off to a random screen. It was such a joy to shoot it and watch it flap helplessly as it fell to the ground. :)

The only other games I can think of are M1 Tank Platoon 2 and Steel Beasts. Kinda makes me think that it is a mod. Like Desert Combat for Battlefield 1942.

Using the second screenshot and the clue Racing Rat, I found out this is Bad Day at the Midway.

Edit: Hmmm. The same people made the Dark Eye, which is something I have sitting on my hard drive. I really ought to play it, seeing as how Poe is my favorite author of all time.

BD@TM looks interesting too. I should track it down.

Edit 2: Whoa. Justadventure.com's review says that David Lynch wanted to make a series out of the games???? Holy damn, the coolness factor of this game just shot up about 8 million points. And the scale breaks after 93 points.

Bad day is pretty messed up with the parts i have played. Its kind of like watching a twisted persons artwork flash in front of your eyes... al the while a "stream of conciseness" is read at the bottom of the screen.. V ery very weird to say the least..

Yeah I have been keeping my eye out for the dark eye myself. Bad Day I picked up here in the trading forums about a year ago.

It sounds absolutely brilliant. It probably mimics the sort of short stories I tend to write. The switching art styles alone is enough to make my mouth water. Sounds genius.

I must play these games. There's absolutely nothing better than a surrealistic, psychotic story that revolves around concsiousness and thought, rather than cheap scares and gore.

Again, anything that reminds me of Poe gets a doubleplusgood A in my book.

I wonder how hard it will be to track these down....

I mean, shit. Even the band sounds killer. Now I want to hear their music!

We may have been the only ones. They were both fully released at retail, but I don't think either sold very well.

One has a pretty memorable name while the other one is utterly generic.
