When did White Flint Mall get a Bethesda address? I grew up in DC, and to me and my friends White Flint Mall was always in Rockville. I was poking around google and I noticed that Borders bookstore gives it's location in White Flint Mall a Kensington address. What gives? I know it's not a big deal, but to people not familiar with the area it must get a bit confusing.

And in response to Lurknoemore's presumption about Bethesda vs. Rockville; you absolutely correct my friend. Bethesda will always trump Rockville in the eyes of people who care about such things around here. It's like McLean compared to Vienna in VA. Or Georgetown vs Foggy Bottom.

Seriously? North Potomac is near Darnestown and Quince Orchard neighborhoods, and is usually associated with Potomac and Bethesda, not Rockville or Gaithersburg.


As some of you might have noticed, I was unable to attend the DC CAGers meet-up. I had to stay at the office to meet some clients and wasn't done till around 7:00. I sure as hell didn't feel like driving to White Flint Mall at that time of day, so I bagged out. I was really looking forward to meeting some of the other CAGers in the area, and not getting out there was a bummer. The next time a meet-up is planned I'll get someone else to stay at the office. The Goozex Guys came to hang out, and they were once again generous with games. Mark put together a neat game to test our sobriety and memory. The stack of games held nothing or a game disc, and we drew numbers to draw games. 7 games were won, and the others were given Goozex points.

Glad that you came out. Sorry that you missed out on the fun early on, but still you came from such a distance relatively speaking...that the effort really was appreciated. Hope that you can make the next one.

I'm pretty sure it's too late to get one. I was personally told by Bioware that they called the Kmart in Springfield and told them to pull the game. I suspect other stores in the area got a similar call.

Anyhow, FYE Lakeforest has mislabeled Simpsons Blu-Ray with a $14.99 AR price. The thing is, there is either no longer a rebate or there has never been. The price will ring up as normal price, but if you bring this to their attention, they will honor the price as shown.

And while you are there, brand new Halo 3 is $20 AR. A $40 rebate, but they have always been honored for me.

That is not how the Goozex system/servce works. I suggest that you read the FAQs and visit their forums to better understand how the service works. If the Goozex guys are there, they would be merely there to answer questions and socialize.

I found a clearance Odama at the Target in Silver Spring once. That's the only clearance game I've ever seen at any Targets in the area. The Odama was in the case at the bottom. Just saw it out of the corner of my eye while I was checking out some other games. I even asked the clerk where the clearance games were and he said they usually ship them out somewhere before they go on clearance.

Granted that was several months ago.

Cleaver brought up a good point while I was talking to him the other day. Let's start looking at each other's trade lists and setting up trades for the meetup. It saves on shipping and makes for a nice bonus to the meetup. Both of our trade lists are pretty up to date so please check them out and let's start discussing possible deals.

I haven't heard back from Mark at Goozex, but hopefully, the boys will be a part of this meetup. It has always been a great time with them involved and they have been nothing, but outstanding with the freebies and contests. I used to find good clearance deals every now and then at the Rockville target, but it's been a while. I never seem to get in on these $5 - $10 deals, but someone must be getting them. I checked the target in Rockville today, but they didn't have VF5. If someone else can find some before the meet-up, cool. If not, no big deal.

If anyone is looking for a favorable deal on an LCD HDTV, C-Mart (Baltimore and DC) is doing 30% off everything in the store. The one in Baltimore still has a few 32" 720p and 42" 1080p Vizios and a boatload of 22" 720p Insignias as of this morning. I picked up a 32" for under $450. The 42" is $972 and the Insignia is $210. I see DC also had TVs listed, so you might find a deal there too. A bit OTT I know, but todays games need an HDTV!

I was able to pick up the other copy. In addition to Star Wars: KotOR II for $19!

I think there was a used copy of it at the GS on Worth Ave (near the Fridays) in Potomac Mills. I can also confirm that Two of the GS at Potomac Mills have Nocturne used only game not the cd.

Cooking Mama (3 Copies left) for the Wii is $19.99 at Potomac Mills Target. It rings up as $29.99 but the tag on the shelf says $19.99 so all you have to do is point that out.

I'll be there. As for Mom & Pop's, the closest thing I have seen, aside from the one on Rockville Pike, is Play N Trade in Olney. It's a franchise, of course, but at least it's owned by a family who lives in teh community. MUCH different culture from what you get from GS and the like.

:lol: Hell no - I live in OR. But I'm travelling to NoVa for work Feb 4-8. I was saying I could drive up if it were then. Oh well, I'll probably be making more frequent trips - if I know enough in advance I can stay over the weekend and try to make one of these deals. I will be up in Gaithersburg anyway, though, since that's where my mother lives and I'll be visiting her one evening. I had no idea there were so many CAGs around there. I used to get quite a bit from the CC's and Best Buy's and TRU's when I visited a few years back (made several trips in 2005). They seemed to have a much better selection of deals than around where I live. I'm not sure that's true any more though ;).

I probably won't have time to do any shopping up there but I will check out the Springfield area. I found some good stuff at the CC there during past clearances.

Hey all!
This is sort of my “Hi” thread, so, Hi! I had heard about this site sometime ago, but I really became interested recently when I bought an iPhone (for business reasons, really) and started listening to the podcast. The reason I decided to post now, and in here, is because I’m interested in the meet-up this weekend (I’m in MD). I have a few things I am looking to get ride of and maybe some of you all are interested? If so, drop a line in here. If you need more info, I can provide it later today when I get home from work. Worst comes to worst, I’ll probably trade this stuff in for credit at Gamestop. Unfortunately, I just bought everything at Christmas that I wanted to get... :)

Gamecube w/ 3 or 4 controllers, at least 2 are wireless controllers, microphone (comes with Mario Party 6 or 7) - Mario Party 6 or 7 :) Monkey Ball, and maybe one other game. I primarily used the GC for Mario Party and I never really bought much for it. It’s black. Works fine.

PS2 w/ 1 or 2 controllers - This is an odd thing, and I don’t know what to do with it. I have a mod chipped PS2 from the middle east. This means it is PAL, not NTSC, but it will play anything. In reality, it’s both. If you put an NTSC game in, the output is NTSC. If you put PAL in, it’s PAL. I think if you play in HD with an HD (component) cable, neither matters. Also, it has a broken DVD drive (It’s the damn tray!!). These drives are replaceable and you can pick up the part online. Why would anyone want this junk? Well, I’ve got at least 100 games for it, and it could be as many as 300 (there all in a massive flip folder). Some are RPGs you won’t find in the States, others are the usual games you can get anywhere (Armored Core, BMX XXX, etc). It’s quite a variety, but they’ll only play on this unit (or another modded one, I suppose). If someone doesn’t want this, I’m throwing it (and everything it has) away.

Xbox - 3 or 4 controllers, at least 2 are wireless controllers (I see a pattern), and several games but I’ll have to give a list from home. I know Halo is one of them. Plus a flip book with the games in it (I got into CD flip books for storage and tossed a lot of cases away... doh!) HD hook-up cable. Works fine.

Just reply here if there’s any interest in these older systems. I’ll probably bring some 360 games to trade about as well.

I probably won't have time to do any shopping up there but I will check out the Springfield area. I found some good stuff at the CC there during past clearances.

Don't get your hopes up; Springfield has really gone downhill as far as videogames go. Pandora's Cube and Starland have both closed, and the mall in general has a lot of closed stores (virtually the whole wing where the 2nd food court was). I was just there last weekend, and the CC didn't have much of anything. If you want really good CCs for clearance, hit up the one in Marlow Heights, MD, across the Wilson Bridge. It's in such a horrible area, no one ever goes there, and they never bother to mark their sale items. The one in Landover isn't bad either.

Great, will add you on the next roll call. What we have been doing is to park your car up on the third floor of the parking garage, right in front of D&B's entrance. Between drinks and food and B.S., we walk outside and pop up some trunks...it's kinda funny to be truthful, but we all seem to enjoy the geekiness of it all.

Hey DC CAGs. Another successful CAG meetup. We seem to be getting bigger and bigger, and we might be outgrowing our D&B digs. Great, great turn-out, and I think that we all had a good time getting to know one another and putting a face to an avatar. I think that one of the Goozex guys took some pics of the 25+ group that we had (for CheapyD), so hopefully those will be posted. Anyhow, great seeing the regulars as always...and having the new guys/gals join in on the fun was good to see.

Hey all you DC CAGs! I just wanted to stop in and let you know that I am in the area this week and, if you are interested, am reluctantly selling my Samsung TX-P3075WH HDTV.

Some background info.

I bought this TV in the Spring of '05 from a Doctor out in Vienna. I bought it in preparation for the arrival of my 360. At the time, the TV was barely 9 months old and had hardly been used. Well, needless to say, I only used the TV until October 06 when my wife and I moved out of the country. This TV has since spent its days inside of my Honda Civic which was parked inside a covered storage unit in Woodbridge, VA.

So, as I mentioned, I'm selling my baby. I've returned to the US and will be shipping my car but not the TV back to CA this Saturday. The TV is a 30" widescreen CRT and it supports 480p, 720p, and 1080i resolutions. The TV has one DVI input, one Component input, standard composite and S-video inputs and, if I recall correctly, has an optical audio out and standard L/R audio out ports as well. I'm asking $300 for the TV and will even throw in a powered HDTV antenna so you can get the free broadcast HDTV channels.

Up until yesterday the TV was stored in my Honda Civic. I took the TV out of the Honda because the car is getting serviced at the dealership before the car gets shipped over to CA. I've taken very good care of this TV and really want it to go to a good home.

The only downside is the storage unit does not have an electrical outlet to make sure the TV works but I am confident that it does. In fact, if you get the TV home and it doesn't power on, I will issue a full refund.

So anyway, here's the one and only picture I have of the TV. I took this just before putting it into storage. The TV weights approximately 115 lbs but don't let the weight scare you. It's quite easy for two people to carry. The TV will be available for pickup on Saturday in Woodbridge, VA when the car shipping company comes to pick up the car. Saw some games at the Wheaton BB on clearance. I picked up Elder Scrolls SI for $15 and Star Trek Conquest for $7.50. It was a bunch of yellow sticker games. Thanks to everyone who had me pick up copies of Tony Hawk from Target, I was able to earn a 10% off discount with my Red Card. So I started thinking about what I would use it on. They only give you about 3-4 weeks to use it before it expires, and time is running out. So I see the deal of a $40 gift card for a 40 GB PS3. I figure the deal is alright enough, and now that the HDM war is decided, I could use another Bluray player. $382.49 after tax, plus a $40 Target GC. So I buy the thing, and before I even get to the car, I've got buyer's remorse. I don't need this thing. I was going to return it, but thought I'd offer it up to anyone here first. If you're interested, or know someone who is, make me an offer. I'm thinking either what I paid for the system and gift card, or $350 for just the system. Gift receipt included either way. But get back to me soon, I don't want to hold on to this thing for long.

Also, the Towson Target had Folklore for $30, but it had a magic marker line through the barcode and a price sticker that said "AS IS" on it. Original seal was not broken. I'd never seen this tag before. But a few other clearance items had this same sticker as well.

Germantown Target didn't have any. They did have Folklore PS3 for $29.99. CSR checked other Targets for me locally and none had GW: EotN.

Just a heads up to you guys, The new mall in Columbia Heights called DC USA will be opening in about a week. Actually, Target is the only store that will open first on March 8 and Best Buy opens March 27.

I'm not sure if anyone is interested but today I stopped by the Tyson's Corner BB and I saw in the check out line a bunch of Xbox 360 games for clearance, the only notable one was Phantasy Star Universe for $14.99. Everything else was junk. But they were in the back of the stacks....so they are probably still there if anyone is interested. I can't ever get into console MMO's. It's just not the same without a keyboard and mouse.

Prices are a little high on some things that are cheaper elsewhere, like Vampire Rain for 59.99 at MicroCenter. But then again, PGR3 was 9.99.

I think if you have some free time or see something in the circular, it might be worth a trip. I don't think I'd go out of my way though just to check for deals.

Thanks, for some reason my old non-updated GPS would send me around the Springfield mall. It was killing me, since I knew there was a TRU around somewhere just couldn't find it.

Also, today at the Potomac Mills BB (closing time) they were unloading several Wii's if people are interested they most likely will be there tomorrow since they waited so long to unload (why I have no idea)

I actually enjoyed going to Microcenter. The Rockville one is one of the nicer MCs that I have ever been to. It harkens back to the old days of a quality computer component store, but with a new school "old boy network" steakhouse feel. Once you take a look, you'll get what I'm trying to get at it. The prices aren't great, but they are average for that kind of shop. It's better than CompUSSR, so does it really matter.

Microcenter does have a weekly ad. Pretty substantial one at that. I think that you can subscribe on their website. It comes much like a newspaper.
