I found some clearance Wii points and classic controllers at my Walmart tonight. Each one has a rubber classic controller sleave and are $14 plus tax. I picked up 5 point cards and 3 controllers. There are plenty more of each, though way more point cards. I'm willing to pick these up for cost + tax ($14.84) to be paid for at the CAG meetup on the 26th. Please let me know who is interested in what. All the controllers have pink sleaves, the point cards are mixed, but mostly pink.

I believe there is a cd/game exchange in DC. Its a small chain in the area, I think they have some in cincinatti and ohio. Anyways I always find some great deals there on used games. The one near my house even had some imports last time. Dunno if that is what you are looking for but I'm pretty sure there is one in Adams Morgan and I am positive that there is one on Wisconsin Ave.

Anyways here's the site if you wanna visit. Addresses should be there www.cdgamexchange.com

Thanks. I'm not sure what I'm looking for either. We've got a great import gaming store here in Seattle, and I don't expect anything similar, nor is it high on my list of things to do while we're there, but I thought that D.C. being such an international city, there might be something.

Hey DC area peoples...
Here's the start of a post I made on Goozex forums about a local gaming tournament.

"I wanted to tune in all the nearby MD/DC/VA members that might be interested in a local gaming tournament that is benefiting Child's Play Charity. It is being held at the University of Maryland by a student group named Gamer Symphony Orchestra (http://www.umgso.com/signup.php). You do not need to be a UMD student to participate."

Any CAG's live in Springfield? I am looking for the asian toy / anime / toys and video game store that is located somewhere in Springfield. I went there with someone else 2 years ago, and I cannot remember the name or where it is at all but I know it's in some strip mall, not in the mall itself.

Thanks in advance.

Used to be one in the strip mall where the Giant food store is, kinda across from where Kinkos is now. Was called Pandora's Cube or Box or something like that. It got shut down because they were selling modded XBox's.

There is "Anime FX" in Springfield. I thought they were in the mall, although I never went there in person I did pre-order Advent Children from them online and the fuckers never processed my order.

There is also "Anime Pavilion" in Falls Church. They have been around for awhile now. They moved awhile back to a location that is hard to find if you don't know the area. I'm not a huge anime fan, but Anime Pavilion is a good business to support in NoVA. The owner knows his stuff.

With Anime FX biting the dust I guess there isn't much left except for Anime Pavilion in Falls Church. I know Big Planet comics carries some anime, but it is not the focus of the stores. I heard of a placed called "Anime World" somewhere out in Chantilly, but that is all I know. These days I don't travel outside DC or Arlington if I don't have to.

The TRU I went to today had a bonus 20% off any clearance game, plus $10 off any 2nd game you buy. So I think I got a deal of the lifetime today at TRU.

Here's what I got:

All Xbox 360 Games:

Enchanted Arms - $16
Blue Dragon - $7
Moto GP 07 $16
Blazing Angels 2 - $7

Wow, that's less than $50 for all those games! Sweet sweet. That 20% off was awesome..he even applied to the $10 off games. Man that guy was cool.

P.S. This was the TRU in Columbia, MD and they put all their Xbox 360 clearance games in two bins but there was a lot of Blue Dragon's left, I found at least 2 more on the bottom of them and left them at the bottom. Good luck to all.

Moto GP was actually still in the computer for $39.99 but the guy saw the clearance sticker of $19.99 + 20% off man that was sweet!!!!

MCalvert1
04-30-2008, 06:54 PM
There's one in the Baltimore area and one in the DC area. I think near FedEx field, but I've never been there. Cleaver has, so perhaps he could elaborate. Their new website just went live, but it seems less useful then their last. The new items go on sale on thursdays, so tomorrow could be the day. I will post the info as I get it.

Edit: For those who have never heard of C-Mart, they are a seconds store for all kinds of random things. Much of their stock is bought from insurance companies. At least 2 times in the past they have sold what was left of the inventory of a Gamestop that was damaged by fire. Most everything was soaked from sprinklers or fire hoses, and aired out. So if this is the same situation, expect used games to have wrinkled up inserts and manuals. In the past, they priced everything at 50% off Gamestops price. Last time they even had a good stock of consoles, new and used. However, the current gen ones sold within minutes of the store opening.

Ok, nothing going on today from the looks of the ad in The Sun. I'm guessing next thursday. Ad only mentions Wiis and LCDs. Probaby a different situation than the water damaged Gamestop inventory.

Also, apparently the Landover location closed last month. So only the Joppa, MD (Baltimore) location still exists. But they are planning on having their inventory available online, so everyone may be able to get in on these deals. I guess we'll see.

I stopped by there this past Saturday. The store seemed to have more DVDs than games and the owners(who I assumed were the middle aged couple behind the counter) didn't even speak. I thought perhaps they were just busy, but when I asked a question and was met with rolling eyes and a sigh, I just left. One would think that in a world where Mom and Pop stores are becoming extinct that 'Mom' and/or 'Pop' would provide the customer service that the big stores wouldn't.

Anyone else going to PAX?

I don't expect to have any free weekends in July, but there will probably be a couple of dates in August that would work for me. I'll have to check back in later.

Also, I check out that Airsoft place in Rockville. Tactical Airsoft Arena. It was pretty good. Nice selection of rental guns, good protective equipment. Prices were not bad at all, especially if you don't need to rent any gear. The playing area was designed well enough, but it is fairly small. And there's still plenty of construction stuff lying around in unused areas. It's new, and I'm sure they'll have that sorted out soon enough. The guy who appeared to be the owner was pretty cool. I found his description of the rules to be pretty entertaining.

Rockville BB has about 3 or 4 tubs of games for various systems, all 50% off.

Nothing notable, MLB 07 I think was the only PS3 game I saw.

They also have Halo 3 Legendary for $50

It looks like this is where all the NoVA people migrated to (the one in the Southeastern region is pretty empty) so I guess I might get a better answer here.

Can anybody recommend any major (well, doesn't have to be major in size, but in content) video game/anime specialty stores around the area. I live in Ashburn, VA (which is surrounded by a bunch of bigger cities (Leesburg, Chantilly, Sterling), but doesn't have much in itself) and I've gone exploring myself a bit. I've found eStarland in Fairfax, VA (which is a nice little store with a good selection of everything) and Anime Pavilion in Falls Church, VA (great store for manga/DVDs). I went searching for other ones, but the only other one of any significance was Anime World in Chantilly, and to be honest, it paled in comparison to the previous two stores. If anybody knows and can recommend any stores within an hours drive from Ashburn, that'd be great.

Omnislash124, I don't know if I can be of any help...as I just don't think that there are any great video game stores in the DC metro area. Welcome to this thread, as we certainly welcome Northern VA CAGs.

Anyhow, just wanted to report that in Lakeforest Mall, Gaithersburg, there is a new foreign DVD shop, called Foreign Cinema...it specializes in Asian martial arts/import DVDs. It is an interesting shop with Anime, swords, etc. I cannot vouch for the authenticity of all of the materials sold though. I personally had my doubts but they re-assured me many times over.

Will post again.

Microcenter is decent as far as having pretty much any game you can think of. Otherwise it's your usual Gamestop/EBgames/BBV/BB/CC...

Microcenter is somewhat ok, but their staff and management has become mostly useless in recent years. eStarland's hole in the wall shop is good and their Saturday specials can be really good sometimes. Ashburn is still a developing area (my brother works out there).

Thanks for the suggestions. Microcenter seems to be a good place to check out, even if everything I see is retail price. Assuming we're talking about the one this Microcenter (http://www.microcenter.com/index.html), and better yet, there's supposedly one in Fairfax, which is around the area of eStarland and Anime Pavilion. If I'm feeling brave, I might venture up to Maryland. Gaithersburg's not too far away either. Maybe an 50 minutes to an hour?

And yeah, Ashburn is still in the process of developing. LOTS of wide open spaces just sitting there. It's lacking some shopping centers. Sadly, the closest Gamestops/EB/BB/CC/TRU are all in neighboring city Sterling.

These days Microcenter can be good for spare parts, however they tend to be very competitive with Newegg and last time they told me that they will MATCH newegg if they offer something cheaper than what MC has to offer.
They do trade in's at the fairfax location, however don't expect great deals or prices for trade in's these days. In the beginning they had some great promos, including trade any 9 games (no matter what generation as long as it was in their system) and you get an extra 25 back over your credit.
I would suggest signing up for their monthly sales ad.

I suggest going their on Satudays in the mid after noon as you can swing by the Estarland store for the saturday specials then hop over to MC a few miles away.

I had a pretty fucked up convo with the Rockville manager - he wouldn't budge. I was trying to get them to match mobo prices, I'm talking literally $120-150 over Newegg. Apparently the best he could do was still $50 more than Newegg's - and he told me "take it or leave it". Truly wtf moment for me.

Manager's pretty much a dbag to put it bluntly. If you are able to get anything out of him, I commend you.

FYI, Germantown Walmart has 2 eye of judgement fromt the recent "nationwide, ahem cough cough" drop.

UNFORTUNATELY, they're ringing up 69.99. Of course, when I went to ring up, it was the floor manager who rung me up. I mentioned to him that I thought the price may be incorrect and he said "yeah, this item is deleted and dropped in price but we have the discretion of accepting the price drop. Our store isn't going to adjust the price to $29."

WTF!!! Maybe some other CAG will get lucky and score it for $29, but don't get your hopes up at the Germantown Walmart :(

Most likely I'll be out of town. But speaking of plans and all, does anyone have any interest in doing another meetup in September? My schedule really opens up starting September 13th. We could certainly do D&B again, or something else. I've played Airsoft at that place in Rockville that Lurk was talking about a while back. It's on the smaller side, but it's pretty cool, resonably priced, and has great rental guns.

Post what your available dates are and we can narrow in on one of them. Looking forward to more good times with the CAGs!

Good new. My younger brother has expressed interest in attending this event. He has asked me to RSVP for him. So I guess add a guest +1 next to my name. :) Thanks and I look forward to seeing you all again.

BTW: Grats to both Lurker and Tiny.

Thanks to everyone who came out today and for some making the extra time for a trip up to Arundel Mills. It was a blast seeing many people again, as well as meeting new faces.

A nice sendoff to Tiny who is off to Nova Scotia for work, and thanks for throwing some freebies out there late. Also thanks to Mafafu who kindly brought some Gamestop handouts, and made a nice 2 hour drive.

A big thanks to NinjaJ & BlackCoyote of Goozex for giving everyone who attended a free Goozex shirt, we shall wear them proudly.

As I stated to everyone at the event, we will be holding a Maryland/DC/Virginia meet every quarter wth the next one coming in January closer to the DC area. If anyone knows of a good location with a large enough space, feel free to PM me the info, or your AIM/MSN name or ask for mine, so we can discuss it in further detail.

Current ideas outside of White Flint are Northern VA and Frederick, MD

Look forward to the next meet!

Definitely good times, and thanks to everyone for the well wishing.

The top concerns on my mind, about the move, now include: (Thanks all :) )
1) blood tests to prove I am not an alien
2) car falling through the ice, and the insurance company salvaging it.

Thanks to G-nitro for putting this all together. I will try to make it down for the next one.

Anyone going to the Monday midnight launch of FO3?
I was perusing Rockville BB for an actual, functioning GH:WT drum unit (that failed). That ended up with the employee talking about how kids are chewing on the drumsticks, girls dropping the guitars for no reason...but ended up with the guy advertising the FO3 launch.

How GH:WT >> FO3 is connected, I'll never know. But apparently, Bethesda will be there with Game Dir, Lead Producer, Artist, and Designer. I wasn't into all the hype, but I suppose an autographed copy of FO3 could be useful someday.

This should supplement it:

I'm going to be at the Rockville Best Buy. They will have the airstream trailer from PAX for people to check out.

I will be at the Rockville Best Buy at midnight (live 10 minutes away). I actually wasn't gonna buy Fallout just yet since there are so many games, but having the developers there seems worth it. Hope I wont be bored for long.

If you guys plan something, let me know.

Made the trip up to Nova Scotia successfully :) -- Though the town is giving more of a stepford wives vibe then a "The Thing" vibe, but I am sure that will pass as I get to know people.

Anyway, thanks again for all the well wishing.

P.S. Has anyone heard from Lurk?

Just wait til it gets colder and the snow piles up higher than your house! ;) But otherwise, you might as well just find yourself a nicely programmed lady to settle down with.

Don't be a stranger to the board!

Glad to know the move was successful and a safe one. Don't forget about the CAG crew down here in the U.S. now.

As for Lurk, I saw him say on Goozex that he would be resuming life shortly. lol Guessing his newborn had him rather busy.

That's great. I hope you have a good transition up there. Don't forget to lookup Greg Sewart.

I am sure Lurk is busy as all get out. I know when I had my baby girl (no.2), it was that much more difficult to keep up. Just like someone told me once, one child, you and your spouse can play zone, two children and you have to go to man to man.

Oh, if anyone is out and about for the GoW 2 launch tonight, my band is playing the Tyson's Corner Mall Gamestop launch. Should be cool, I know we will be giving away a few games to folks that are waiting in line. Come up and say hello to a fellow CAG. Cleaver will be accompanying me to the show and we are going to see what freebies we can snag, lol.

I'm not a overly active contributor to CAG but I do lurk. Anyway, because of an upcoming move I've decided to sell off a great deal of my video game collection. It consists of PS3, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii/GC games. So far I've posted the PS3 and PS2 games:

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/tag/917240720.html

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/tag/917259843.html

I'll be posting the 360 and Wii stuff later today.

If you are interested please contact me and I'm sure we can work out a fair price. Make sure you mention CAG. I'm thinking that contacting me via Craigslist is probably the best option since I don't check these boards that often.

Dude, your 360 inventory may have cost you $700 new, but there is no way they are worth even a quarter of that. Good luck.

You may be totally correct there. I based my figures on averages.

Besides that, I'm asking for "Best Offer" not assigning prices to anything. By quoting values I hoped to fend off people who were trying to lowball me. Offering $75 for the entire collection is in no way a fair offer but that's sometimes the type of offer you'll get on Craigslist.

jmiller80
11-13-2008, 04:27 PM
Glancing at your 360 list, most of those have recently been available for $10-20 new. Some were even less because of clearance. $75 is in the ballpark because they are used and because several will be duplicative of the buyer's collection if sold as a group.

You could always do better though. Stuff is always worth whatever someone will pay, and not everyone values stuff like I do. Good luck.

well this thread has all but died. lol Just a heads up to all. Trying to figure out if I'll be able to put together another meet for next month. May have to put it on hold as I am house hunting right now and need to focus on that.

But if something isn't put together for next month, I'll def work out the next meet for late Feb/early March.

I haven't been here (this thread) for some time. Like to help organize another meetup in Rockville (Dave & Busters). Anyone interested? Maybe sometime in late January/early February. I miss them, they were very cool.
