We are finally having another meet, as it has been a good bit since our last one. Since our last one was at White Flint Mall in Rockville, we are bringing it back to Arundel Mills in Hanover, MD to make it more accessible to those in the Baltimore area again.

Don't forget to bring your games and other stuff to trade or give away, as we always have a nice swap/trade session.

BTW, we have had minors (-18) join us before at D&B without issue. If you are a minor and wish to attend without your own guardian, shoot me a PM and I'll give you my cell phone # if you are concerned...and I'll walk you in. Again, it hasn't been an issue yet.

Hey folks. I'm a noob and not sure if this is where to post about deals I've found or not.

Over at the Best Buy at Potomac Yards I found Saint's Row 2 Special Edition for $20. It comes with a money clip and a USB shaped like a bullet.

The store had maybe a half dozen of these in stock.

I'll come to a meetup one of these days, though I'll be out of town this time - next time it's in White Flint perhaps. Though I'm sure my girlfriend would mock me mercilessly.

I had a different question:

Does anyone know any good independent game stores in the DC area? Specifically ones which might have reasonable prices on older stuff, sort of a "mom and pop shop" vibe. I know that's a dying breed, but I thought perhaps there's something around. I know about estarland in Fairfax, but I'm not aware of any others.

Thanks.

I think I went to that store once, a long time ago (did they used to have a store in VA?). Don't remember buying anything, though. Didn't know they were still around.

Their site confuses me. On whose planet is the "regular price" for a Wii $419, and the "regular price" for a Wii Fit $199? Even their "sale" prices are totally unrealistic. Just seeing that on their front page makes me not want to bother to look any further into their site or go to their store. How do they even do business?

G-Nitro

Steer clear of Pandora's Cube. They have horrible staff that tend to be pretty rude and they are very overpriced on their items.

They also got busted years back for selling modified XBox (original) consoles.

There is a store in Glen Burnie Mall called Power Gamers. Their prices are a bit more down to earth, unless you are purchasing imports.

I know this is off topic, but there's a free concert in Baltimore friday night with the Gin Blossoms at Power Plant. Gates open at 6pm, band at 8pm. 21 and over only. I'll be there with my wife and some friends.

To make a tiny connection to gaming, I'll say that "Hey Jealousy" was a song featured in the first Karaoke Revolution on PS2 and Xbox. And there's nothing more cheapass than free!

Huh, nice -- thanks for the info. I've worked in Chantilly for over a year now, and never knew that was there (don't tend to go exploring off of my route to/from work that much). Well estarland does all transactions online so you can just order it for pickup and pick it up later.

And regarding Play N Trade, I would say judging by the case quality in the Alexandria store I would say it would be on par or worse, not sure about the Herndon store, if you want case quality I would stick with estarland.

Well, cases I don't care so much about because they're replaceable. What gets to me is when the discs are scratched to shit (I mean, really, what do people do with them?), and/or the manuals or covers are missing. At least it looks like Play N Trade has disc repair machines, so hopefully if a disc is scratched they'll at least be willing to run it through that.

I found CAG from fatwallet through the free BB warhammer deal.

So anyone want to trade? I'm in Alexandria and can travel.

I have 3 copies of PC Warhammer Online: age of reckoning
2 sealed
1 opened, because I wanted to look at the art/packaging, was not impressed, but never installed it or used the 1 month code

looking for other recent PC or xbox 360 games

Anyone see that BlazBlue arcade machine (I think its a real one) at Power Gamer in Glen Burnie? I once went to Power Gamer on Reisterstown (sp) Rd. and didn't see as much as the Glen Burnie one (which had wall scrolls, T-Shirts, etc.).

Anyone go to the Power Plant area and enjoy it (if people know what area I'm talking about, lol)? People want me to go sometime because I tend to mostly play video games and not have a lot of fun, lol.

You are talking about the Inner Harbor for the Power Plant reference. The ESPN zone is okay, but the better part is the "Howl at the Moon" a piano bar down the block, or one of the other pubs in the area.

I heard about that place mentioned from co-workers. They also tried getting me out to Norma Jeans on my birthday, but no way I was going there. ;)

They at least want me to go to the Power Plant with them some weekend (which is basically what my recent blog on CAG was discussing, about hanging out). I probably will go, although I'm not the type to go out late at night. They say I can't go without having a beer at least, lol. My only concern is parking and such (since I've never really been to that area).

aosora13
12-09-2009, 06:42 PM
Yeah, Baltimore is actually a little bit confusing as the streets are like in the capital city. I would say you should at least get google maps of the area and then look around for parking. Since it is in the evening it will not be so bad. I am not much of a drinker either as it is expensive and the probability to meet a decent woman at Howl at the Moon or other bars at Power Plant is really low. I would advise having 2 light beers and take your time between them since you do not drink much. You can get to know your co-workers on a personal level and possibly make a friend from the event.

Anyone themselves get snowed in when we had 20+ inches of snow around two weeks ago? I didn't even bother going into work that day. Kind of sucks we've been having some cold/icy days as of late.

Also, anyone get affected by the water main break that happened in Baltimore (that was before the snow)? I just know my county had to cut back on water usage that evening.

I was all over the northern part of the city 6 days ago trying to track down particular Kingdom Hearts T-Shirts at Hot Topic, but found them in the mall at Towson.

If anyone is looking for Street Fighter IV T-Shirts or some other gaming/anime shirts (I can't say there has been as many left), the FYE at Arundel Mills has a ton. Figured I'd post this here: The FYE in the Georgetown Mall (officially called The Shops at Georgetown Park) is going out of business (probably because that mall is a piece of crap), and everything in the store is currently between 50-70% off, including games. It's only a few blocks from my office so I went in the other day, and the guy told me they'd be open until Jan. 23rd. Not sure whether there will be a further discount increase, though I doubt it.

There is a pretty decent selection of games left, though as always since it's FYE you've got to make sure things weren't so marked up to begin with that you're not actually getting a deal.

I spotted a Devil Summoner 2 w/ Plushie sealed for $20 on Saturday, but when I went back on Monday it was gone. I know it was one of you... :bomb:

Isn't there going to be another D&B meetup soon? I believe the last years was in late Feb. or sometime in Mar.

Anyway, there's a good chance I'll attend Otakon this year.

So I wanted to comment on a couple things.

1) Indifference, great job on the podcast, I was listening yesterday on trip back from DC. It was alot of fun, even if I do not agree with your co-host all the time.

2)PAX East - Who is going? How are you going? I am thinking of taking part in the PAX East Train Alliance, but last time I was in Boston, I loved having my car, so it is a tough choice.

3) I definitely support another meetup and appluad the brave souls who decide to put it together. :)

I'll definitely be attending Otakon this year (almost nothing will stop me as I missed last years after 3 straight years!).

PAX East is still a rare maybe, as I have no other person I know that wants to go and haven't done any research on groups and such, but I would love to go, might go to the Seattle based one.

As for the next meet, I don't know who planned those before but I am always open to a meet as its always nice to hang and talk and trade games for a while.

1) I'll be at PAX East. Me and a friend are driving up that Thursday and then driving back down that Monday. If anyone wants to catch a ride, we can fit about 2 more people comfortable in my Scion xB. More people equals less money to spend on gas. :)

2) As for Otakon, I will be there as well. Love going to Otakon, and going to save a lot of money for the Dealers Room. Spent about $1k last year on figures and stuff. O_O;

3) Looking to set up another meet in probably Early March. How about March 6th or 13th? Otherwise I won't be free until late April. Looking to do it at the White FLint D&B this time to be fair to those closer to DC. If anyone has any other suggestions on places, let me know. Some places still in that general vicinity as we have some people from further out of town who are looking to come to the next one.

Let me know about those dates and I will work on getting it set up between CAG and Goozex.

1) Thanks for the show feedback. Much appreciated.

2) I am definitely going to Pax East, I will have a rental car but only for friday until my family flies in on Saturday and uses it to visit other family. I was going to rely on public transportation.

3) I agree we are due for another CAG meetup. I suppose it will be at White Flynt this time.

I will probably be at Otakon, hopefully I get my panel again on Japanese Pro Wrestling. The Dealers Room use to be great, now dealers just run up the SRP on most items. Last year almost everything I saw was overpriced in terms of statues, figures, and models. I even know what the dealer usually pays for that stuff as well since I work with that kind of stuff on a daily basis.

G-Nitro
02-03-2010, 01:07 PM
Of course they run up the SRP, but they also have to haul the stuff there and pay for a spot. Luckily it's still cheaper than ordering from many sites. Shipping usually kills those deals. Sundays usually has a good mark down of stuff tho. Got some figures hat were $30 or $40 for $15 or less

Midnite
02-03-2010, 02:37 PM
That is true but it's rare to see them do mark downs anymore. Back in 2001/2002 every dealer had some type of mark down on Sunday on figures, statues, models, DVDs, wall scrolls, etc.

Still fun to watch people pay for something way over the SRP.

I know it's still early but maybe there should be a meet-up planned for the CAGs going to Otakon. I talked to one of there staff members the other day and mentioned that pre-registration should go up real soon.

I finished Sam & Max Season 1, got 10+ hrs into KH: 358/2 Days and played enough of Xmen Origins Wolverine to stop caring about the game, but here's my question to you: Why are you playing Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust? Did you lose a bet or something. ;)

but here's my question to you: Why are you playing Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust? Did you lose a bet or something. ;)

It's a fair question. I paid $4.99 for it from Gamefly. I'm still kind of a sucker for anything that's linked to any of the old school Sierra titles. No matter how bad it was, I would at least check out any game in the King's Quest, Space Quest, LSL, Quest for Glory, or maybe even Police Quest series to a lesser extent.

Or at least that is until now. Box Office Bust is so unbelievably bad that I really don't think I'm going to play much if any more of it.

-It's not funny.
-It's not fun.
-It's absolutely hideous.
-The controls suck.
-Some achievements are glitched (not that I would care to suffer long enough to try for any of them).

This game makes Magna Cum Laude look like game of the year material. It makes the BK games and Rock Reveolution embarrased to be sitting near it on my shelf.

Some of you may have remembered me from the last meet-up. This time I hope I can stay longer. Who knows if I'll arrive on-time since I've never been anywhere near that area before.

As for my snow days, I mostly played White Knight Chronicles (I like it personally) single player, some TVC and NSMB on Wii, and Star Ocean: The Last Hope International. I put quite a bit of time into them. Also been watching much more anime again. The only game I beat just before it snowed was Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.

If it's just a red ring, why not order and Xclamp and try it yourself? That's what I plan to do if mine ever craps out after March (warranty expiration). I've been trying to find a cheapo one on CL to practice on. But I'm a tinkerer by nature.

Greetings from Frederick. Calvert, there's always people posting on CL around here and Hagerstown offering RROD fixes, but I don't know how much they're charging. I think the Play N' Trade around Germantown does it(if it's even still there)

I was sorta SOL during the storms... I was actually expecting to be at work during most of it since everyone there was like "oh they haven't cancelled work due to snow in ten years etc etc". But they did, for three friggin' days. I just decided to wrap up a second play through of Far Cry 2, and I also dug my heels into Valkyria Chronicles. How good am I at RTS games? How about it took me a whole friggin day to defeat the Batomys.

Hostyl1, there was a time I would find that idea appealing. Especially since it's my old launch window 360 which was replaced over a year ago (with a unit that's already red ringed and been repaired under warranty). But these days I'm happy to spend an extra $20 and let someone who knows what they're doing handle it.

eastshore4, thanks for the tip. I'll give that place a call later. My wife's best friend has a job around the corner from there.

I'm hoping to get this one repaired and give it to a friend of mine who recently had his apartment broken into. They got his 360, Wii, Laptop, and some other stuff.

One of my coworkers told me a while ago that he fixes red ringed consoles as a side business. I can't really vouch for him on that one way or the other on that, as I haven't had that problem yet (and I've still got a while on my warranty anyway). I can ask him how much he charges, though, if you want.

The Distant Worlds concert series is coming to Wolf Trap July 30th:

http://www.ffdistantworlds.com/index.php?option=com_eventlist&view=details&id=27:wolftrap-july-22-2010&Itemid=62

I didn't get a chance to go when they were in Baltimore last year, so I'm definitely going to try and go this time, it's supposed to be a pretty cool concert.

I was in Northern, VA the other day looking for an anime store. However, I forgot to bring my map on where it is and got lost. I ended up finding Tysons Center, which was a pretty cool mall.

I have been doing a lot of biking nearby due to the weather.

MjC
Now I might have to consider doing the same thing because my out of warranty 360 just died. If MS won't fix it for free (I never know unless I call), I'll have to do something else. I'll probably just trade it in, and eventually get a newer one (after E3).

I'm guessing you were trying to get to Anime Pavilion? That's the only anime store I know of near there, which is down the street from me in Falls Church. About 10 minutes east of Tyson's Corner.

I did hear about an anime store located east of Pittsburgh (3 1/2 hours away from me), so I might go there. I'm just really trying to track down more wallscrolls and such.

I went out today all over stores on Ritchie Hwy. I was able to find some PS2 JRPGs I've been trying to track down for a bit at GameStop Severna Park. I might make a trip to various malls around the Capitol Beltway tomorrow, but not sure yet.

Anyone been to Six Flags America in MD? I know 1-2 in this thread have, but thought I'd ask. I'm looking at going there in the near future (since I go to every theme park in the country) and can get a great deal on tickets. I might try to find someone to go with because I went to Hershey Park alone, but its tough to keep up with me at theme parks anyway. :-P

I went there back when it was adventure world. Usually at the beginning of the season you can buy season tickets at the local giants for like $100 or something like that. It's pretty cool tho they have some good rides and the waterpark is awesome.

Anyways on topic MD CAG here if anyone is near the Annapolis area and wants to check out my games PM me (I literally have 100s of games I need to start ebaying them as I am running out of room)

Six Flags in MD is one of the worst parks from what I hear. Most of the times nothing works. Dan Snyder (Redskins owner) owns the Six Flags too. Try Kings Dominion or Busch Gardens or Water Country or Great Wolf lodge.

Yeah, the local Six Flags is pretty lame. It is cheap however, and close. So that might be enough incentive. When I went last year only 2 coasters were operational.

If you like coasters the most, try King's Dominion and then Busch Gardens.

I've been to Six Flags in MD a few times, it's alright. Managed to ride all the rollercoasters in 2-3 hours last time I was there in the summer with the little to no lines. Superman and Batwing are probably my favorites. Much smaller park than King's Dominion and Hershey Park.

I went to Lake Forest Mall for the first time ever (in Gaithersburg.....long and annoying drive for me, mostly due to Capital Beltway traffic), and let me admit that Sears had awesome clearance games really cheap, kind of like when I went to Sears at Security Square Mall.

FYI -- The Olney Blockbuster is going out of business, all the games are 30% off the marked price. There are a couple of $6.99 games like Dark Sector, sports games and Viking of Asgarth (sp?) that should come to less then $5 with the discount. Not to mention all the DVDs and Blurays for cheap. Might want to call before going, they are closing any day now.

Friday:

2:00PM - Bamboo Blade (anime showing)

Get down there around 9AM (I wish, I know I am as lazy as a slug, so I probably will be later than this, but I can hope),
12:30PM - 7 Sega Saturn Games You Should of Played
2:00PM - Bamboo Blade (anime showing)
3:30PM - The Evolution of Video Game Music
6:00PM - Funimation Panel
8:00PM - Giant Monsters Panel

Saturday:
9:00AM - Bending the Elements (Last Airbender Panel)
4:00PM - New Video Games Live Documentary Special
6:30PM - One Piece Podcast
8:00PM - Anime and Manga Realm of Mega Man

Sunday:
100% free at the moment.I will try to look out for you (I remember who you were).

Anyway, I'm excited and can't wait to go today. :D

This will be my Friday for sure (some gaps to still fill in):
9-10am VG Anime or Anime Intro/Ends
12:30pm Saturn Games
3:30pm VG Music (Around then I'll be watching Eureka Seven movie)
5pm DDR Standard Tournament
6pm Funimation Panel (& SCIV Tournament PS3 at 6pm)

I'll decide Saturday tomorrow.

I copied down G-Nitro's, Midnite's, and nightmare's schedule down. If people want to email me (to get in touch with me, my cell phone will give me a notification), my email is the same as my XBL name in my profile, at gmail.com

I ran most of the DDR Standard tourney. Sorry, I don't remember the shirt, which entrant number were you?

Brain kind of fried from the last couple days, setting up the game room most of Thursday, helping to keep things running smoothly on Friday (with 1 run to the dealers room, Masterpiece Ghost Starscream and Transformers Animated keychains acquired). Hope to spend some time with Dragon Quest 9 tomorrow, to get to the point where I can use Tag Mode, since there's apparently a lot of people walking around in Tag Mode.

I was in the game room yesterday at one point.

The T-shirt I'll be wearing today is Near from Death Note (same as this wall scroll basically):

My day will be set to:
AMV - 3pm
Gundam Beyond 30 (maybe) 7:30pm
Mega Man (definitely) - 8pm
Bandai After Dark (if I decide to stay that late) - 9pm

If I'm not at any other those places, I'll be in the Dealers room, game area, hanging out with nightmare/G-Nitro, or just playing my PSP somewhere.

The Toys R Us in Columbia will be moving further up Dobbin Road to the building where the Home Depot Expo Design Center used to be (next to the Red Robin). The current store has closing signs up, everything must go, 10%-30% off, furniture / fixtures for sale. An employee said this started on Sunday. The signs say videogames are excluded, but they were marked 10% off this morning, and accessories 30% off. That exclusion is probably just for consoles (or I misread the sign). The store will be open until the end of September / early October, with the new store opening in mid-October. Hope the discounts get bigger, though I'm curious if they'd rather just shift stock than offer 50%-70% discounts.

Yeah, I heard about the news when I was curious as to what was opening up at Columbia Crossing II (I'm in that area all the time).

All right, there's a PlayStation blog meet-up in Washington D.C. on Tuesday. Since I'm a big PlayStation fan, I definitely want to go. I decided to drive down to D.C. today so I can figure out my way around the area (making the Tuesday drive much easier). OMG, DC is so complicated to drive around. So many one way and narrow streets. I would be in the right lane, then see parked cars ahead, so I had to change lanes. I had issues bringing them up. Streets are only 25mph, lots of pedestrians, and street lights are tough to notice due to being on the edge of streets. Ugh, it was a pain. I was thinking about taking the Metro instead, but that's not too good of an idea because most Metro locations are far from me anyway. It's like I'd have to drive all the way to White Flint (as an example), park, then go all the way into D.C. via metro. I don't even know the schedules or anything.

I'm thinking of biting the bullet driving. At least this time I'll change a few things, such as taking I-495 to 16th street or Connecticut Ave. From there, I'll just head down to Dupont Circle. I know where the place is and printed some parking coupons online.

All right, there's a PlayStation blog meet-up in Washington D.C. on Tuesday.

I'm gonna try to make it to this as well. Of course, it would have been nice if they chose a day that I was actually working in the District, but I'll suck it up.

Regardless, I want to praise Sony for promoting Move this way, as opposed to some other companies that make you drive all the way out to an ass-tastic amusement park and have you pay admission just to see their product.

I will be there at the meet-up, but going to take the DC Metro in. I like the way Sony is promoting Move for sure, although I already know I'm buying it. ;)

I will be wearing my Uncharted 2 T-shirt at the meet-up, along with my PlayStation hat (same one I wore at D&B CAG meet-ups).

Right now I'm debating which DC Metro station. Either I start at New Carrollton (I'll be driving I-95 south or U.S. 1 to the Capital Beltway) or somewhere near White Flint (driving U.S. 29 south or I-95 to the Capital Beltway). New Carrollton seems easier, but it would be a longer walk taking the orange line compared to red.

I've been to a bunch of Toy's R Us locations (Gaithersburg, Glen Burnie, Annapolis, Catonsville, etc.), but I will admit I preferred the one in Columbia based on what I've seen (which is kind of a shock since I normally prefer Anne Arundel county locations of stores).

They had a whole Playstation tent at the Virgin Festival yesterday. I stopped in to see what was there, and it looked mostly like Move demos. It was fairly crowded, though, and I could tell that my girlfriend was going to get annoyed quickly if I tried to hang out in there at all (even though there was an hour until the next band we wanted to see), so I didn't stick around.

With the year heading into the holidays, I think it is time to get the band back together.

I am thinking a CAGGOGGEP* meetup for DC/VA/MD/DE (and whoever else wants to drive)

So questions:

When are people available? (thinking October, since November and December have 'major' holidays) - I will give it until Oct 1st for more feedback and the winning date will be announced.
