View Full Version : I got a TurboGrafx 16 w/ 8 games - but did I get a good deal?
I've been gaining a rather good reputation at some of the loac stores in my town the last few weeks, and yesterday afternoon the owner of the used music store down the road from me asked if I wanted to see a "weird video game system". Of course I said yes and out he brings the TurboGrafx 16. I asked if he'd sell, he said yes if the price was right, and we agreed to discuss it tomorrow after we both did a little research. I offered him $35, hoping to keep it within a certain range, he countered with $50, no tax added, and I accepted, knowing he did his homework. It came with:
Pac Man Land
Alien Crush
TV Sports Hockey
China Warrior
Jack Nicklaus Turbo Golf
King of Casino
Bonk's Adventure
Now I ask you, fellow CAGers, did I fare well in this endeavor?
Oh, and I've been given access to buying out the entire game stock of an old video store in my town too. So far I've grabbed (and ehat the owner has so far found) a 1st gen Genesis, a couple nintendo manuals, and the Explorer's Handbook (the thick instruction manual) that came with Final Fantasy for the NES, for $12, and he still has a large stock of complete nes, snes, genesis, and n64 games and a working snes system that I'll be helping him locate. I recall one of those games being a complete copy of Super Dodgeball too...

As long as everything is in good condition then it sounds like a decent deal. And at the very least you could see it yourself instead of risking getting ripped off on eBay.

You have the greatest game of video pinball ever conceived in your possession.
You win.

I thought the same thing too when I got my Turbo a few months back, although the game we were both thinking of (or, I'm guessing you were thinking of) is Devil's Crush. Still, Alien Crush is a pretty solid game, it looks like what Contra Pinball woulda looked like if it was ever made.

I'd have slapped a Grant in his hand as well. Nice deal.
If you decide it's not your bag, hit me up sometime...
they made another pinball game after Alien Crush? Ok, I'm going to look for it on ebay right now. A.C. made Flipnic play like a pile of crap
Hehehe...I just saw my thread on the main page. I feel special :bouncy:

Not bad.
If everything's in great condition, I'd say good score

I loved alien crush, I didn't really like devil's crush personally, even though it's almost unanimously considered the better game. Still, alien crush is considered a very good game too.
But I think you got an excellent price on that. If it's a complete system then that is worth 40-50 on ebay lately. The games are worth at least 25 or 30, more if they have cases. The cardboard boxes are very rare overall so that would up it even more. It's the norm for games with just a jewel case and manual to be considered complete, even though they technically aren't.

Pretty fair deal. Alien Crush is AWESOME. Don't know offhand if it goes for money on ebay or not, but honestly the system and that is worth the price of admission, and I'm not even a huge pinball fan.

Good deal
Pac Man Land
Alien Crush
China Warrior
Bonk's Adventure
I have/had these back in the day all good games IMO
I also liked Alien Crush & Devil's Crush & used to play them abit way back when & was never much of a pinball fan. I'd say if you got jewel cases & manual with all/some of the games then you did really good!

Part of me says you overpaid, but then again if I had this chance and walked away . . . I'd likely regret it.
Back in 1995 I saw some Turbo units in box at a videostore in New York for $30 each . . . and games in box for about $5 each . . . I almost bought one and have kinda had regrets since.
Back in 1998-9 I saw some Virtual Boys for about $30 each (at Blockbuster) and games for about $5 each and I passed. I've kinda had regrets since. You get the patter.
Although when I buy this junk it mostly sits in boxes taking up room in my basement because I don't even have time to keep up with current releases.

You did not overpay... good deal... when I bought one new in the early 90's I paid 200 for it...
Only in the last 2 years did I buy another system... I have never played Devils Crush (never can find it cheap), but love Alien Crush, Bonk, China Warrior, PacLand
Amazed it didnt come with Keith Courage (the most common game for the TG16 as it was the included game with it)
Recommendations: Splatterhouse, Galaga 90, ninja Spirit, Bonks Revenge , bonk 3 (if you can find it, I never could for cheap)
