I'm not currently doing so hot with my grades. So my parents have told me that they will get me any game to encourage me to do better. I get the game next week. What game do you people think I should get? I am currently leaning towards FFXI because I can't afford it on my own for awhile.
If you can't afford the game on your own are you going to be able to pay the monthly fee or is this a situation that once summer vacation comes around you'll be enjobbed and will have steady cash flow?

wait a minute, you are struggling with school so your parents think that by buying you a new game that will make you spend more time studying and doing homework? isnt that a little backwards. all well, more power to you

No I can afford the money per month because I just cant afford to shell out $100 all at once. I can pay small amounts monthly.
Actually, go with Steel Battalion, then sell it. You'll have FFXI with enough money left for at least 2 other games.

ur parents will just give u the game first b4 getting the results? my parents do these things sometimes when big tests are comming but they usually wanna c the grades first.
and yea just get ffxi, let the parents spend on the expensive stuff and leave the cheaper things to the allowance.

oh i get it...its just generally its the old addage "put up or shut up," you know? usually they say we will buy you the game once your grades go up, but hey right on! milk it for all its worth
ps i am not bitter or anything, but my mom would have never bought me crap for grades. but if i didnt get good grades, watch out now!

Hahaha your parents think getting you a game will motivate you into getting good grades, thus leading you to a better life in the future?
I would comment on that, but I'm afraid I must refrain at all possible measures.
Anyways.
Like Punq said: Suikoden forealz, dawg.

the biggest thing my parent's ever did to help my grades was rent me a game on the weekend if I got above a 90 on my spelling test. Do not ask how many times I rented Mega Man 2 and 3 as its way too many to count.
sometimes my dad would buy me games for my grades. I was suprised with the likes of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Metal Gear on different occasions (it took me until recently to finally appreciate how good Metal Gear is)
good luck on you picking out a game. I personally would go with something that would not take up every moment of your life like FFXI if you want your grades to improve

well I can not endorse something I have never played
what systems do you have? Personally if grades are a problem and you want a new game a fighting game is a perfect choice. I know that I can take a 10 minute break from studying, play some SFIII and go back to studying without becoming engrossed in a game plot. Try out Virtua Fighter 4:Evolution, Guilty Gear XX, or even Marvel vs. CAPCOM 2 as they will provide you with a great amount of fun and not keep you from studying

But with the summer coming up, this would be the perfect time to indulge in a game that will consume a lot of time. That way, he can get his gaming out during the summer. I haven't played FFXI or Suikoden, so I can't make any real recommendations. But if the rents are gonna pay for it, go for XI

This was my thought exactly. I know my parents would maybe do something like this, but the deal would be if I got X for grades *then* I would get the new game/whatever incentive is promised. (Though I can't remember many incentives for grades...)
Bruce obviously knows how to work his parents a heck of a lot better than I did :D You should start screwing up other stuff, too. IKIK

bruce, I think that if you go ahead and TELL your parents to get you the game only if you get good grades, and then go ahead and get good grades, the end result would definitely be more than just 1 game.
