View Full Version : The Best Buy Gamer Gift Card Explained (RIP dear friend)
I live in Canada, and we don't have BBs here. But we do have Future Shop, which is exactly like BB, and is actually owned by BB. Any idea if they have these cards in FutureShop?

Hey, I just found out about this site, and it seems that they've been phasing it out in a lot of Best Buys. Does anyone know if they're still doing it in Raleigh, NC?
And what does YMMV stand for?

YMMV stands for 'Your Miles May Vary'
Basically, you may or may not get in on this particular deal in your area.

I don't know about the gift cards - but there are BBs in Canada now, have been for a couple years. Actually, BB bought FS a few years back - which is why you don't see the "Proudly Canadian" logo on their ads or doors anymore.

With other BB coupons, someone usually makes a high-quality scan or PDF that we can print out and use. Has anyone done that with the GGC, and if not, could someone do so?

Hm. I had heard about this card a billion times on the forums and actually had to go to best buy today to get someone a gift card. I found a stack of them after scouring the entire store trying to find gift cards and only finding movies and music ones.
I got the one for a friend, and decided to get one for myself, both for $20. However, I am an idiot, and didn't realize they're the old style, with an expired coupon on the back. Crap.
Has anyone else done this and either been able to either:
exchange their gift card for one with a coupon that isn't expired (ie the blue one, not the lime green one), or,
been able to use the old coupon and show that they sold it to me after it expired (via reciept) and were able to manually override it?
Or do I just suck it up and deal with it (and keep my eyes peeled for next time).

I actually was able to use an expired one. They pulled the rest of the expired cards though after they rang me up.

My Best Buy (Roseville, CA) had these in December, but I haven't seen them since. Has anyone else had trouble finding them?
I'm not too worried yet, since the same thing happened last year with the green cards. They were hard to find in the beginning of the year, then were stocked more consistently later.

I'm starting to get a little worried. I've been to about 7 different Best Buys over the last month and not one had the "new" Gamer Gift Cards.
I don't think I can go back to paying full price for $20 games

I guess I got lucky... one Best Buy in Tampa had close to 200 of these, along with about 200 each of every other Gift Card.
Hell, they even let me put a penny on each one, so I walked out with 4 $5 off coupons, and just threw the rest in the trash.

Didn't the $5 off $30 ones expire on 12/31/05?
The only ones I see now are the blue $5 off $20 ones, and like I mentioned above, some stores have restocked these en masse.
If i just print out the scan of the 9 5$ off cupons, can i use them at my BB store, or will they not work?
Also, will it work if i just print if off on regular paper?

Alright to make things simple, there is a gift card called the gamers gift card (GGC) that has a coupon on the back for $5 off a game with a value of $19.99 or more, unfortunately these days some stores don't carry them, in any case, people buy the gift card FOR the coupon on the back, so lets say you want to buy a $20 game, and lets say you put $10 on the card, so all in all you'll have to add another $5 + tax, meaning you only spend $15 instead of $20 BECAUSE there is the $5 off coupon on the back, hope that wasn't confusing

They can be located anywhere - beneath the new release CD's, mixed in with the games, behind the customer service desk, at the checkout. Basically, look everywhere.

I don't know if a scan has been posted before, but I never saw any topic on it. Save some time and trouble by just printing this out than going through the whole buying a gift card process. Also, now people who don't have GGCs now do. If this is a repost, sorry. I just need a good reason to test out my new AIO Printer.

Though this will probably scan you're setting yourself up for failure. Unlike other coupons distributed by BB, this is an instore coupon and it is just not worth the hassle. Now if your store does not or rarely has these the OP is really helping out. For everyone else you really can't be that lazy to go grab a card and load it with some amount. It might only be $5, but buy enough games and it starts to add up. I don't purchase anything $19.99 and up without this coupon.

Just a quick note that I used this yesterday to get Saints Row.
When the kid asked how much I wanted on the card, he looked very perplexed when I said $58.84. Then, when I handed him Saints Row, and he rang it up, he was doubly perplexed that the price matched what was on the gift card...
Oh, and it was the last GCC in the store - they have about 50 EA Sports gift cards, though.

I was thinking of trying to use the $5 coupon on a price match, but will the computer recognize it, or will it have to be adjusted? I once did a price match and the register would not manually honor the $5 off any PS2 game coupon. So I find myself wondering.

ok so for a $19.99 PS2 greatest hits game:
put $5 on the gift card. walk out. take out the gift card and coupon. find cashier. give them game to scan. give them coupon. tell them to scan. give them gift card with $5 dollars on it and ~$10. profit?

I've never actually been able to check since I've always been denied when asking to use the coupon after a price match. The price match is considered another offer so it shouldn't be able to be combined with the coupon. YMMV of course, as some people have been able to combine both with no problem.

Just picked up Pokemon Mystery Dungeon for both GBA and DS pricematched to Fry's $22.99. I tried to get the CSR to use the GGC but she said either the pricematch or the coupon, not both. So, I just did the pricematch since it was the larger amount and I got to keep the $5.00 coupons for future games.

Tried this with okami. Had the fry's ad (34.99) and had my ggc coupon and I was denied. It owuldn't scan, so the manager came over. She read the coupon and said sorry it cant be combined. Does this work on bb advertised games?
As far as I can see the only point would be to get a game that is 20, and use the coupon to knock it down to 15.

Stopped by Best Buy today to buy Big Brain Academy for $15 and Clubhouse Games for $20 with GGC. I was lucky to find an over-abundance of them (this is the BB next to the TRU in Brooklyn, on the Belt Parkway and next to the Verrazano Bridge).
I ended up getting 10 with $5 on each card. Stupid sales associate looked at me like I was nuts getting 10 of them but she still activated all of them. I think she was aware of the "GGC advantage." After that, I picked up Clubhouse Games, Condemned, and Dead Rising and purposely went to the same cashier to piss her off.
Geez, its not as if the $5 discount is coming out of their pockets.

I bought clubhouse games for ds sunday night 10 mins after they closed. i found the GGC, had 20 put on it. turned around and went to the games. found it went back to the cashier for her to ring it up. seeing as this is my fist time using the card, i thoght best buy would take the $5 off when the card was used the first time. she rang it up, i was like, "aren't you going going to take $5 off?" she was like?! i turned the jewel case over, saw the coupon, she scaned it was about to throw it away. i was like, "umm, i want that case... i can use it to store things..." so end of story, i bought the game for $20 plus tax and still have the coupon (cashier did not write void on it). My question is, (and i think it should) will the coupon still work??? or do i have to use the card and coupon at the same time?

OK, I read through most of the thread and have a few questions.
1. Is it one coupon per transaction, or one coupon per item over $19.99?
2. Is it valid on game systems, or just actual games?
3. Would using a rewards zone coupon interfere with using the $5 off coupon?
I'm planning out my Wii purchase and had already decided Best Buy would be a good bet. If I can get $5 off the system, and then $5 off each accessory and game I also get, whew, even better!
Thanks!

1. I believe it's one coupon per game per transaction and the game must be $19.99 or above, and not part of another special offer bundle (since the coupon and game are bundled together on the receipt). If you want to pick up two games at one time and use two coupons, ask to do two different transactions. I've done that several times without problem
2. It's valid on games and game accessories (controllers, memory cards, etc) only. I've never tried it on a system but I highly doubt it would work.
3. No. Give them the Reward Zone certificate after they total the transaction and ask for your payment. The Reward Zone certificate is treated like cash and can be used with other offers.

hmmm i went to BB today for get World of Warcraft and a WoW time card using the GGC...
But apparently my BB is trying to put an end to the misuse of the GGC
i put $1 on a GGC and then the guy told me that he supposed to say that you cannot use the GGC for 24 hours but tehcnically you can use it he said
but luckily i had an old GGC fro the last purchase and used it on WoW and got it for $15
so the sales checkout clerk guy just said to buy the stuff and then go return it and use the card to get your money back but screw that i'll just go back on wednesday so i could get the WoW time card for cheap too...
but i thought this was interesting, has anyone come up with a problem sort of like this?

Dear Lord.
In unrelated, kinda, how long does Reward Zone take to post certificates?
I didn't realize I was set to $10 certificates, so when I went on today to print one out for use with price-matching the $30 Wireless 360 controller from K-Mart, I changed it to $5.
Now I suppose I have to wait for the certificate to pop up. BB Reward Zone site has been the crappiest piece of shit in the past, so I expect it will be a while. How long will this take?
Anyways, if it does pop up I'll be sure to buy every GGC they have.

1) It is one coupon per transaction. Multiple GGC's work on the same transaction without issue. Adding in different coupons on top of the GGC, such as a BBB, usually screws things up.
2) It says for games and accessories, though doesn't explicitly say something against systems. My guess is that it won't work, and in every other case, the 10% off and 12% off coupons net more of a discount, except where explicitly denied for use on systems.
3) RZ certs are payment, and their use doesn't interfere with the GGC. It's only additional coupons that screw up the use of the GGC. You'd give the RZ certs at the end of the transaction, regardless.

I got these for all my friends for Christmas last weekend.
I found that one store (where I ususally pick them up) had none. The second store only had a few (~6) on a hidden stand.
With all the boxes of giftcards sitting out, it looks as if BB had pulled all the gamer gift cards and put out different ones.

Wait... shrike4242, are you saying that I can stack the $5 off more than once on a purchase? Like if I buy the 360 wireless controller for $30 and I have 5 GGC, I can drop the price to $5?
Anyway, I'll be picking one of these up very soon. Like today.

No. The giftcards themselves work together without issue. Not the coupons.

totally out in Bellingham, WA. I was there a month ago and they had multiple left by the checkout, and now, a day after christmas, there were none by the checkout, customer service didn't have any, and the employee I asked to go look in the back reported negative. So, maybe they just sell the last ones and wont restock anymore?

I doubt it.
The last couple of years this has happened at Best Buy. (Having GGC's, and then right before Christmas they disappear.) I believe that BB pulls them for Christmas - sets out all of their holiday cards.
Then, when the holiday cards are pulled, the other ones (GGC included) come back.
The other years this has been the case for the BB closes to me anyway...

I've had stores out here be out of them for weeks and then get some in. Other stores have had them all the time.
It's also a bad time of year to look for specific types of GC's, since we're just outside of Xmas. Give it a few weeks and then see what happens.

I stopped in at the Best Buy in Woodland Hills/Canoga Park since I was in the area and was going to hit the Fry's nearby. I wanted to see if I could get Dungeon Seige 2 for PSP for $10, of course it was OOS.
So I look for Children of Mana and Phoenix Wright 2 so I can PM them with the Fry's ad ($24) and pick up a couple of GGC's and use the coupons. Of course, they have neither the games nor any gift cards. Best Buy's in LA seriously suck ass.

I've seen a million GGCs available in my local Best Buy (the blue cards), they're good through June of 2007.
And yeah, don't be a jerk. I put on at least $5 a card, and don't take out more than 3 at a time. You're not gonna use it on anything less that $15 after coupon, anyway.

It should, as the GamePro coupon for $5 off any Xbox accessory works on it, and the GGC works on games & accessories.

Is the Best Buy Gamer's Gift Card Coupon (BBGGCC) gone? Retracted? Pulled from the shelf?
Last month, I noticed that my local store's stock of GGCs dissapeared. They had a ton only a few days earlier! Thinking that the store "got wise," I paniced when I didn't find any at a second BB, but when I found them at a third I guessed that I had just told too many people! :D A week later they had hundreds on the gift card "island" thing and my fears were calmed. But then all 200+ dissapeared in two days! I couldn't believe it. It's a relatively small town and it's the location is only a year old. Thinking that this was the same phenomenon I experienced a couple weeks ago, I checked the other two stores and foun ZERO. I'm relatively adept at finding them, so it's not that I don't know where to look. Why did they suddenly dissapear from all stores? Can anyone confirm that they can still be found in any stores? Has there been a retraction after Best Buy discovered why they have been so popular for years?
Oh, and I thought I'd mention that the World of Warcraft GC (paper backing, no case) works on PC games $19.99 and up with no manual adjustment. I've only been refused a GGCC on a PC game once, but I've been resisted many times. The later exp date (Dec. 31 2007) is of note also.
i saw a new GGC and it says $5 off $29.99 and up and it says for playstation games and accessories.... whats the deal here? do they still make the old card?
That's not a GGC. It's a more restrictive card. There is one for EA games and one for XBOX games.

I'm putting out a plea to anyone who still has access to GGCs or GGC coupons: PLEASE HELP.
My brother and I got a $1,200 gift card from buying an open-box 52" LCD and nearly everything we want to spend it on qualifies for the GGC coupon. I've been searching for months and the only time I found them they dissapeared the next day (before I could get any). I believe they were retracted because of the sheer amount that went *poof* in less than a day. They appear to be gone for good in our area (that includes about five stores). A few weeks ago, I found a small stash of hoarded GGC coupons that I lost long ago, but I'm down to my last one and I'm saving it for reference unless I can find more. I've sat on this $1,200 card for far too long and now* the coupons will soon be expiring! If any of you can help me, thanks in advance.
*It's still over $1,000 + $15 Reward Zone certificates and I hope to make about $50 in GGC savings.

The GCC's have pretty much vanished from all BB's in the Northern VA / DC area. Customer Service reps also claim there are none behind the counter, either. Oh well. I guess we just get to use the far inferior 10% off games (up to 3) coupons that occasionally come in the mail if you want to get deals at BB.
Sad, too, because it was the GCC that finally got me to abandon EB in favor of BB, because BB's inventory is laughable sometimes. Not that I'd ever consider returning to EB these days, what with the used game recycling bin they've become...

I thought I was the only one to have this problem. The employees with half a brain override the system and manually give me the 5 bucks off. The brainless ones fight me tooth and nail to prevent me from saving some money. I'm just a bit pissed that they wouldn't let me get 5 bucks off a wii points card since the managers claim that it is not an accessory, despite the fact their own website lists it under wii accessories. My Best Buy wouldn't let me use it to buy the 1600 Microsoft Points with the GGC either, saying it's not an accessory. The $5 off used to ring up automatically, but the last time I tried (early June) the coupon would scan but the discount didn't show up.
