Hi,

I want to play some Sega Saturn games that I missed out on. Problem is I really don't have any more space for yet another console (we are overflowing at 9 consoles in the livingroom!). Not to mention I'm not that hyped on buying 10 year old electronics and hoping they survive the ship. I plan on buying some CD's off of eBay and I was wondering if anyone had any success playing the actuals in your computer CD drive with a sega CD emulator. i've seen a few emulators out there but I would like to hear first hand from any of you if you've made this work.

I'm confused by your post cause you mentioned Saturn in the beginning but then talk about Sega CD.

I know that Saturn emulators are not 100% perfect since Saturn was multi-core, so it's difficult to emulate. Still, some games are playable and you'll still have fun.

If you're looking for Saturn emulators, the one I've found the most success with is called SSF. It may help that I'm running a dual core now, as I've heard people report that it speeds up the emulation, but it might still be worth checking out. However, don't be surprised if the game you buy won't run and/or runs like crap.

If you're looking for a Sega CD emu, there's a handful that do the job just fine. Gens+ is my emu of choice, but there's nothing wrong with the others out there.

I've tried using the Saturn emulators out there and I never really got any of them to work with any of the titles I wanted to play. I found it a lot easier to just pay $20 for the system and then go hog wild otherwise, but that's just me. That and I found that installing a mod chip was actually quite a simple procedure, although modding my Saturn had no effect with the particular chip my friend got. Que sera, sera. At least I still had the 4-in-1 Pro Action Replay as backup.

I don't know if the best Saturn emulator out there is still being worked on, though. ISOs of Saturn games litter some corners of the internet but the emulators...well, most can barely get the CD Player part of the interface running and even the best ones seem to only be able to run a dozen, two dozen titles at most.

Thanks for suggestions - yes I meant Sega Saturn ;)

I'll prob just get one with a bunch of games on eBay.. usually comes with like ten you don't want.

The ones I've heard (never played) cool things about are Astal, Nightwarriors and I'm very interested in Guardian Heroes. I'm sure they are $60-100 each!

Just get a modchip (http://www.racketboy.com/saturn-modchip/index.htm) :)
seriously though -- the emulators right now really don't cut it -- bad compatability problems. Maybe someday we will see some good ones, but the Saturn is a REALLY difficult piece of hardware to emulate (2 complex processors)
