What console titles are some of the most valuable ever?
Being a Saturn fan, I think of Radiant Silvergun and Panzer Dragoon Saga.
Can anybody think of more?

We have a winner. You'll find little else that even comes close.
Radiant Silvergun isn't rare either, just sought after. There's always a copy on eBay.

There was the game pak that Nintendo user for its Nintendo World Championships, those go for over $1000 each.

Saddly, I choked and did not make it past the second round (which required 200,000 points) after scoring 350,000 in the first round.
However I avenged myself during a Nintendo event at Disney World's Paradise Island on the Star Fox competition pac.

64DD Drives, games and DD-R discs are pretty rare. However, they're typically not too expensive.

I'd still love to get my hands on an original version. What do they go for now? I haven't seen one on ebay whenever I check.
Panzer dragoon is the most well known of normal, great rare games. I don't believe it belongs with upper echelon of rare games, as games like burning rangers had similar print runs and can still be purchased new from the distributer. PDS is a pricey because of equal parts game quality and scarcity, and it's only 150 or so. It's in the same category of dracula x rondo of blood (even if PDS is somewhat rarer), great game, somewhat difficult to find, but not super rare.
Donkey kong country competition and star fox competition are rare and often go for 300+. I think the dkc goes for a little more than star fox. They were available only from the nintendo power shopping guide (or whatever it was called) they used to put in the magazine every quarter. I bought dkc from them for 20 bucks, missed the star fox one though.
Darxxide for 32x was a european only release and considered the 32x's best game. That's worth about 300 I believe.
Battlesphere (and the updated gold version), for jaguar, is very rare and cost over 200+ when it was released by the manufacturer (the price has since been lowered, but I've never seen them sell it at the lower price). It was a homebrew. It immediately sells for 3 or 400 on ebay whenever they sell a few more on the site, and the reprints took only a couple days to sell out. The company has ran out of material though and there will be no more reprints.
Dynastic hero (u.s. version, japanese is like 20 bucks) for turbo duo goes for up to and over 500.
Magical chase for turbografx 16 goes for about 300, it is generally considered the rarest u.s. turbo game and is almost universally considered the systems holy grail. This is wrong though. IT is much, much easier to track down magical chase than dynastic hero, which I've only seen one (two tops) of on ebay ever. Dynastic hero is rarely mentioned even in turbo communities.
Sapphire for the pc engine duo (arcade card required) is worth over 500, it's a great, import only shooter. There was recently a bootleg or a reprinting of it, which is debatable. There is a slight difference from this one and the original. They had flooded ebay (at about 100 a piece) but are no longer availabe. I'm not sure how they have effected the price.
Darius alpha was a promotional pc engine game that was free with the purchase of a certain darius game. You had to mail away for it (japan only). It goes for up to, and occasionally over, a thousand.
Pc Genjin 3 Taikenban is another extremely rare promotional pc engine game. I've never seen one anywhere (though I'd love one). It's essentially Bonk 3 (bonk is pc genjin) except they dress him up like a girl (look at the bonk with eyeshadow in my sig). I have no idea of the value.
Also there are some atari games that go for over 1000. I believe I saw one go over 3000 once, and I don't even think that was an unreleased game. I don't know atari though. Though atari collectors are the really insane ones. They're the star trek freaks of video games.
Turbo duo (u.s. release) has about 6 (out of 20-25 games total) games that often hit or exceed 100. Cotton, super air zonk, bonk 3 cd, dynastic hero, beyond shadowgate and I think I'm missing another one. There's also sydmead's terraforming, possibly the rarest duo game in the u.s. Basically, I have the only one I've ever seen (purchased it brand new from telegames.co.uk). It is a low demand title, but I haven't even see one anywhere else. I think this game could well exceed 100 or 200, but at the same time it may not even hit it. It all depends which collectors see the auction.

I saw a Pal version, and a 2nd version, which I couldn't tell if it were the Japanese or American Version (since they asshole who priced it decided to place the sticker over the region logo). There weren't any on ebay over $10.

Earthbound for the nes is an unreleased game so it really wouldn't count. Even so, it's not the only example of that happening, thought it's the most notable.

Speaking of roms, I have a playable of Kameo for Xbox (NOT 360). Any opinions on how valuable it will be in the future?
As for released stuff, here are some obvious examples that come to mind:
NES - Tengen's version of Tetris, Arkanoid with the controller
Sega CD - Snatcher, Lunar: Eternal Blue
PSone - Valkyrie Profile, Discworld 1 and 2, Intelligent Qube, Suikoden II

I never even knew arkanoid had any value until today. I saw it listed as rare on a list someone made and then checked ebay, seems to be worth about 50 or 60. I have a mint/flawless one in box with controller and packaging. I figured it was worth 5, 10 bucks tops.
For sega cd, I think the rarest would be koei flying squadron. Snatcher is definately up there. Samurai showdown is another rare one, I've never seen a u.s. one on ebay but the PAL version goes for over 100.
Suikoden 2 isn't very rare, just uncommon with extremely high demand. I've seen discworld a lot in gamestops, I don't think that's very rare.

I didn't actually say the games on my list were rare; I tried to pick those I knew were valuable. It's a tough call with older games, too. I bought a disc-only copy of Keio Flying Squadron (not to be confused with Koei, who does all those damn Dynasty Warriors games) for $3 a few years back. Of course, things are worth more complete, but again there's a difference between rare and valuable.
I like to think that Discworld is valuable, because I got so sick being outbid on eBay that I paid a whopping $70 for a mint one. ;) I'm a huge fan of the Discworld books, currently reading my 26th one.
Let's not forget Cubivore for GameCube, an Atlus game that allegedly had a print run of 2,500. It was so low, Atlus had to get special permission from Nintendo to do it.

I think the problem isn't the reprints, it's the fact that they don't change anything to make it easy to tell the diffference, like the GH label or different cover art. Personally I like the reprints because it keeps people from praising games to the sky due to rarity and price.

Remember: Rare and valuable are two different things. If you put a game up for auction that you haven't seen up there before, it may not get crap for bids, because it's possible nobody's looking for it.

i am pretty sure this game never was released beyond the beta version because the game was so bad.
as for nes games:
stadium events is pretty rare for the usa nes.
the panesians are very rare(maybe 300 of them were made. Hot slots bubble bath babes and peekaboo poker are the games. They are really crap 8 bit porn, i dont think they show any penetration, but when you get enough money a stripper takes off her clothes and starts masturbating)
menace beach volleyball is pretty rare for the nes.
i think the rare genesis game is the japanese version of castlevania bloodlines, it goes for mad dollars when its on ebay, but it is the same game as the usa version, just really really rare.
if you want to talk about rare games, you need to include the rare systems: the sharp x68000 and the fm towns and fm townsmarty are crazy rare. I dont ever see the systems on ebay, the only way I know of to get those would be to get one off of yahoo japan auctions.
All of the games for those systems are in such low production it is just silly.
alonzomourning23

The main selling point behind the fm townsmarty was porn. And lots of porn games it had. Would be interesting if I could get one for cheap.

There were only about 30 of those t206 cards known as of the late 90's early 00's. I actually saw one once, can't remember if it was being sold directly or at an auction.
I think most estimates put the total around (many not located) between 50-100.
oh well, if anyones a blithering idiot I'll trade my 1800 game collection, plus about 40 systems (about 34 unique, rest different variations), a few hundred dvd's, a hundred + cd's and hundreds of vhs's for your t206 wagner. Years of entertainment for a piece of cardboard. You can't go wrong with this deal.

I would say any decently rare game if it's sealed can fetch big bucks. I have sealed copies of Phantasy Star IV, Space Megaforce and Ninja Gaiden Trilogy that I'm pretty sure are worth major $$$ if I ever decide to sell them. I would also add Final Fight 3 (SNES) to the "rare and expensive" list. I won a complete, mint copy on ebay a few months back and paid ridiculous dollars for it. It was the only copy I had ever seen show up like that on ebay.

Hiya, first time poster here.
I have a rare PS1 game... but I'm not exactly sure how rare it is.
The game is Wildroid 9 - A japanese game from Shiny Entertainment (SCPS 10080).
It's still factory sealed, with security sticker and spine card intact.
It's basically the japanese version of Wild 9 totally revamped and localised for the japanese market - with totally redrawn anime style characters, increased difficulty level, new sound effects, and new stages.
I've never seen one on auction before, so I have no idea how much it's worth... and I'm desperate for cash so I'm considering selling it.
here's a pic of the game :

Something tells me it's super cheap. The vast majority of Japanese PSone games can be picked up for under $10 US. In fact, there's a Japanese grocery near me (in LA) where almost every single PSone game is $5 or less. Chances are, a Japanese port of a crappy, common U.S. title isn't going to be the exception to that rule.

Vampire Chronicles was certainly released for the DC. I have it. It's not bad at all. It's kind of the Hyper SF 2 of the Darkstalkers/Vampire series. I have no clue how many were made but I got mine brand new through NCSX.com a few years ago for 40 or 50.
Metal Slug 1 for Neo Geo is rare and valuable easily topping the 1000 dollar mark.
Oops, just noticed that someone else had mentioned VC and MS1 already. Well, whatever. I could've sworn that VC had endings though... Weird. I'll go check it out right now.

Well, I have no real answer to the VC endings question. I played as Morrigan and crushed everyone up to Jedah. I wound up beating him but lost one round in the process. After I beat him I had to fight Oboro Bishamon and lost. I wasn't given an option to continue. There was an ending shown but it didn't involve Morrigan at all. Jedah got destroyed by some weird portal, japanese writing scrolled by and it showed a picture of B.B. Hood and Donovan posing. Then the credits ran.

I remember a few years ago when I walked into a Rhino in my area and were putting out about 20 of those guides. I asked the guy how come there selling guides for a game that wasn't coming out and I guess it was the publisher of the guides decision to ship them because they had already made quite a few and needed to get back some money. I'm just wondering how many people bought them before they were reduced or thrown out. How much do these go on for ebay?

in my opinion most "rare" games suck.. (firefighter FD 18 and Gitaroo Man ) gitaroo man was ok, but it wasn't that good. My girlfriend ran into a Panzer Dragoon Saga we're very happy about that find.
I didn't even realize that Firefighter FD 18 was considered rare. At the Sony Store in San Francisco, they have like 5-6 sealed copies of them behind the main video game bar.

Obviously the rarest game is the Neo Geo one. There were only 4 or 5 made! The PC Engine special hu cards are rare! I bought 5 of them on Ebay from a UK seller for almost $1500,I bought Darius Alpha from a Canadian Seller for $1200 on Ebay as well. Then resold them to Dragsy(fellow Ebayer). I bought them All again in Japan at one store for a amazing low price of $3000! In regards to the Turbo Grafx/Duo the rarest game by FAR is a boxed Magical Chase! Their is no reason to debate this. I know hundreds of Turbo collectors and ALL of them own The Dynastic Hero but only two of them own a boxed Magical Chase! (Dragsy and I) I have been on Ebay for 5 years and I've only seen 2 boxed Magical Chases on Ebay and BOTH of which I own! The last one I bought for $609!!! AlonzoMourning23 do you own a Dynastic Hero ? I can believe you do but I bet you don't own or even know ANYONE that owns a boxed Magical Chase? but If you do please post a picture of it with your name next to it. Write on a piece of paper AlonzoMourning23 next to the box of Magical Chase. As far as $500 for Dynastic Hero, lol, just because ONE sold on ebay for 500 doesn't constitute it's value for $500. I bought Dynastic Hero on Ebay less than 2 years ago on Ebay for $200. The next highest one i saw on Ebay was unda $400 'cept of course that 1 obsurd auction on ebay which sold for ova 500! Did you know there has been 2 Dynastic Hero games on Ebay in the month of December(2005) alone? Did you know that BOTH of these auctions ended lower than $620 and BOTH of these auctions came with a Lords of Thunder, the 3 in 1 disc and a 100% complete boxed Turbo Duo!!! I was the winner of the first one! I got Lords of Thunder, 3 in 1 disc(plus bonus Bomberman), a 100% complete like new boxed Turbo Duo and of course a mint Dynastic Hero all for $615 shipped!!!
