I seem to remember another shooter thread a while back...here's another.
to start things off-- what are some of your favorite shooters on any system? anything from the NES to the current gen. I guess that includes run n' guns and space shumups.
here are some of my favorites:
Nes: Abadox, life force, 1943
Genesis: Alien Soldier, Gunstar
Dreamcast: Giga Wing, Mars Matrix
Multi: Ikaruga
I just got Psyvariar 2 Extended Edition for the Xbox a few days ago and that's been pretty fun so far. I'm on the look out for something that comes close to Ikaruga in terms of depth and strategy...if anyone can give any recommendations, they'd be much appreciated :-)

By run and gun, if you mean things like Contra... well, I'll include those too... if not, let me know and I'll edit them out of the post. ;)
NES: Lifeforce, Contra, Gradius
SNES: Axelay, Contra III
SegaCD: Silpheed
EDIT: NEOGEO: Metal Slug

yeah, anything that looks like contra ;-) might as well put them both in one thread. neither genre gets enough respect.

Chaos Field is coming out for the gamecube in a of couple of days. It was kinda like ikaruga from what I've played on the dreamcast.

I bought a used Dreamcast recently solely so I could play Ikaruga. I must say right now this game is kicking my ass. I haven't had this much fun with a shooter in a long time. I also finally picked up Metal Slug 4 and 5 but I haven't had the chance to play them yet.
I don't usually post in these shooter threads much. I'm not as knowledgeable about them as others but I always check the threads regularly for game recommendations. I just wish this was a more popular genre.
