EIGHT!
FRIGGIN' EIGHT!
From the Gamespot review:
On the Xbox 360, this first-rate WWII first-person shooter is every bit as intense and hard-hitting as the PC version of the game.
The Good: Smooth, detailed graphics and great sound; aggressive enemy artificial intelligence; makes you really feel like a small part of a bigger war; varied campaign.
The Bad: Online multiplayer restricted to eight players ; higher pricepoint than its pc counterpart.
Horseshit! This is "next gen", you can't play a fuckin' war game with 8 players! I think i'm going to pass this one up now.. I can't believe this!
Granted, there was never an official announcement, but the back of the box said 1-16 or 1-32 players or something.. shit, even Far Cry holds more people in a room than this! Damn it!

This was mentioned in the EGM from 2 months ago, with the 5 360s on the cover.
Also, at one point they said CoD2 was gonna have 64 players. I'll still pick it up though, for the single player.

I'll hold on this game.. then... 8 is wack...
atleast perfect dark is still 24.. I think
Oh, well.
This pushes Call of Duty 2 further back in the "To Get" list, in terms of 360 games and any other platform.

Wow...seriously, why even have multiplayer if it's 4 vs. 4 ...
COD2 PC > COD2 360.

Perfect Dark is 32 players.
I'm not sure how many of you are Halo 2 players, but I enjoy 8 player action. When it gets to 16 players, be it on Halo 2 or FarCry, the games get laggy as shit. Just because the 360 has 10GBs of RAM, or whatever, doesn't mean it can stop shitty internet connections.

I am POSITIVE the COD 2 developer said that 8 would be the recommended setting for Live. He mentioned that players with faster upload connections for hosting games would be able to have larger number of people in the game.
I don't trust GS one bit... I'm willing to bet they weren't even able ot get on Live with the game, and took all the info from th einstruction booklet.
I will find that quote....

Plus, there's always a chance of a future Live update to add more players.

Have they ever been successful in doing that? The only game I know of that did that was Battlefront, and you'd be lucky to get 16 in there, much less 32 people (I think that's what it was bumped up to).. that game lagged like hell with just five or six people..
<3 4v4
Yep - it seems to work well for Halo 2, IMO.
Especially if you have 4 coll people and not random 13 y/o douchebags

COD2 on XBOX 360 should have no different latency issues than the PC.
EXCEPT that in COD2 you could join a newbie who has a 128k upload stream and picked "Start a new game," hence the 8 player default.
However, by upping the limit to 16-32 in advanced options it could let people like myself with 1mbps upstreams host games.

NLG Q&A: Infinity Ward's CEO Grant Collier on Call of Duty 2
Eric Pfoutz gets some face time with the man behind the most anticipated FPS of the year.
Eric: How any many players are supported for Live play?
Grant: On the box, it says 8 players. We have to take into account the lowest common denominator. Player’s internet connections vary so much. If you have a host, who has a lot of bandwidth and the players also have good bandwidth then you could have 16 or more in those good circumstances.

Keep in mind, guys, that nobody's been able to test out multiplayer yet. They're just assuming -- though I can pretty safely assume GameSpot fact-checked with Activision before printing it. However, if they didn't, it wouldn't be the first time. I'd wait till system launch to be in an uproar over this.
I've been more anxious over PDZ since E3, anyway. I need another damn WWII FPS like a third nipple.

not necessarily, gamespot said that the Guitar Hero controller was not compatible with the Guitar Freaks game, but it was. The buttons were just mapped differently.

Uh, the game still got an 8.8 despite that fact, so it must be pretty damn good. If you buy a console game solely for online play, and it's not Halo 2 or SOCOM, then you're nuts, since PC games do it so much better. Online play in every other console game is just a nice little bonus. Oh, and the fact that it's a next generation game doesn't change the fact that some people get onto Xbox Live with terrible connections, which in turn ruins everyone elses experience. The developers simply limited the number of players so that the game wouldn't be incredibly laggy.
Not a game killer for me at all, and I was pleased with the 8.8

I don't even need to play PC games to know that, yes, it is. You're gonna tell me some generic Xbox FPS like Far Cry Instincts or Pariah or Project: Snowblind has better online multiplayer than UT2004, Battlefield 2, etc.? I'm not anti-Xbox Live, i am just stating an opinion.
And I can't believe people are still impressed with ragdoll physics. It's not realistic looking at all, since human bodies actually have bones and muscles, and don't flop around like big bags of goo, which is what it looks like with ragdoll physics.

I'm actually disappointed in the real world. I wish we would all flop around like that when we died. It would be a much more humorous event then and would lighten the mood a little.

I'm not talking about the games, I'm talking about structure. Live eats PC games up with the way it's set up with one universal tag and easy voice communication across games.
Even then though, comparing PCs to consoles isn't fair.

I thought that I had read in either a magazine or a gaming website (gamestop/ign) that msft was going to be taking xbox live into pc gaming. Have one universal gamertag/friends list are things that msft feels pc gaming may want....in the same article it went on to say that it is a possiblity with xbox live on the pc, and the use of XNA to make ports of pc games to consoles and vice versa, that it is a good possiblity that someone playing an xbox could compete with or against a pc player. If I remeber correctly, the example used was a rts game on the pc, with the pc player giving orders to a fps player on the xbox 360. Very little has been said about it since around E3, but I do remeber reading an article about that.

That's a shame, it's hard to feel like your fighting in WW2 with a squad of 4. I always had the most fun playing Day of the Defeat on Servers which were full to maximum capacity. I'm surprised they haven't started allowing download of software which allows one to run a dedicated server for an Xbox/x360 game on a PC or server.

Yeah, so I finally just played COD:BRO, and it doesn't have ragdoll physics. At all. It's plagued with scripted death animations and invisible walls.
Unless you want to tell me that they fell the same way, once after getting shot in the head, the other in the leg.

PDZ in my opinion is the game being catered to the on-line action. CoD 2 is single player intensive with on-line modes as a bonus. I think four on four will be just fine. Running with a fire team isn't bad at all.
Sweet Tooth

4 on 4 will remind me of good ol clancy times. Sure, wont be as tactical but with just 4 on 4 you need to rely much more on your teammates rather than 8 on 8
