View Full Version : The WORST shaq-fu'ing thing Gamestop has ever done! 360 launch related.

So I just received a phone call from Gamestop telling me that I won't be getting my 360 on launch day. (No surprise there.) But what pisses me off to no end is that the damned phone call was some automated bitch rather than a live person. I realize that many people will be pissed about not getting their unit on launch day (although I am not) but the least they could do is be a bit more personal about it. Bad move Gamestop. Bad move.

Why is that a bad move? Put yourself in the employee's position. It's not your fault that the person's not getting the 360 on launch day, would you want to hear them rant, rave, curse, bitch, piss and moan about it? No. I don't see what the big deal is.

In a time when a call to the local Toys R Us yields an answer by a robot, are you really surprised? Do you really think the employees have the time to call all the people who won't be getting one at launch? Some stores would have to call anywhere from 25 to 200 people.

Another thing, they don't have humans do it because of loose cannons who would scream and yell when they get the news that they won't be getting their 360 on launch day.

Gamestop has been using the automated thing for a while.

While I understand that getting this info is a bit more infuriating than getting the usual call from GameStop telling you that your preorder has in fact arrived and is waiting for you, all pre-order related calls are done by the "automated bitch." It's less a matter of GameStop adding insult to injury, and more a matter of it simply being the process that they do it by.

And Scorch does have a pretty good point.

I know why they did it. That's obvious. All I am saying is that it is a very impersonal way to deal with the situation. It clearly says, "I'm hiding from you and you have to like it." I'm definitely in the minority about not being mad about the shortage but at least allow me the opportunity to say, "Hey guy, that's ok. I understand. Good luck with the rest of the wacko's you need to call."

It's called lack of good customer service.

Welcome to the service industry of the past several decades. Yes, it sucks, but there's little one can do about it. You just gotta grit your teeth, and make the only statement you can as a consumer: take your money elsewhere.

I wasn't aware of that. This is the first (and possibly the last) time I have pre-ordered anything gaming related.

If they take your money in person they should call you "in person". Whenever something goes wrong at Lamestop they try everything to find a way to take the cheap route out.

"Lamestop". Cute.

I disagree. If I was the employee, sure, i'll put the money down for them. The customer is happy at that point. The shortage issue is from Microsoft. I see no reason for an employee to call.

Now if the employee dropped the 360 or accidentally sold someone's copy or something, then yeah, I could see where the employee should call. But for this situation, nah.

It clearly says, "I'm hiding from you and you have to like it."

...what?

I agree with this. They took my money in person 3 times. Once for each payment I made. :D

...what?

I was referring to the automated phone call. That is the perception left behind when such calls are made.

I agree, I think that a company should exhibit some modicum of customer service by atleast contacting you. For the employee, yes, I'm sure this is easier for them but this is not for Gamestop's concern of the employee. This is just a way of streamlining at the cost of service. The shortage issue is due to Microsoft but Microsoft is not the reseller. I dislike how hot products are almost always oversold by resellers. I think a company at the least should inform you personally that they oversold their product, not Microsoft. But let's face it, customer service is dead these days because the majority of consumers will buy products despite a business' customer service.

considering this is an xbox launch, i wonder what the japanese do during playstation shortages. do they call all their customers or do they get robots to do it?

The best part about the great customer service you get in Japan is that you don't have to tip muahhahaah.

Well I personally called every customer for the initial launch and will keep every other customer informed on mine, and it does take a long time, people aren't home and have to leave a message, then call back, and several do not have working numbers, took several hours, and I also have to prep for the holidays and train people and somewhere in there have to have time for the family as well, Joe.

No sir. I'm not blaming Gamestop employees (i.e. the gamer who is simply working to get the discount). I'm blaming the Gamestop powers that be. Customer service. You either have it or you don't. In this case, Gamestop doesn't.

How about not getting a call at all? You show up at 12:01 am and get nada. Would that be "The WORST shaq-fu'ing thing Gamestop has ever done!"?

Hi, this is Aeris, from Gamestop!

DesertEagleXIX

Her name is Aeris.

Hello (awkward pause) this is Aeris from Gamestop (another wierd pause) calling to tell you that (pause) your (Louder voice) XBOX 360 Premium console has been delayed.

If you have any questions, call Gamestop at 8 1 8 5 4 2 5 4 3 2, or put a gun to your head. BYE!

As far as I'm aware, both Gamestop and EB here cancelled their midnight sales due to limited availability of the consoles. The only place staying open until midnight is FYE Games which is where I'll be getting mine.

That's probably what is going to happen at the GameStop by my house as they were informing people about the midnight launch when you pre-ordered the system. I found out by calling myself that I was going to be stiffed, but unless they suddently start calling a ton of people between now and launch date (like the other 150 that pre-ordered and won't be getting one), I bet a ton of unaware consumers are going to show up at 12:01 to be disappointed.

These places better do a damn good job of informing people whether or not they're geting their system at Midnight, becasue if they only have 20-25 consoles, and 150 people with pre-orders show up expecting to get a console, it's gonna be a damn riot.

First time I've ever heard of a robot making calls, I think it's an awesome idea. No personal calls = less listening to bitching and less hanging up because of the bitching and therefore less people coming in and punching you in the face for hanging up due to their bitching.
