Nothing is set in stone, but I feel its an improvement.
Your thoughts?

Anything that gets the vbookie on the front page is a good idea.
In some ways I like it, but it in others not so much. It seems to make the front page far too cluttered. Maybe grouping them in three separate listings like CAG deals, CAG Video Games, and CAG OT would be better.
How bout an option in the control panel to choose which forums you want to show up on the homepage?

Yaeh, that would be great as well.

i like it, but its so much, do regional deals and vbookie and arcade deserve their own section, i think the other sections are used much more and would be more useful than those on the front page

It's alright. I kind of liked the old setup better as I didn't have to scroll down to see all the sections. An option to show/hide which forums you want would be great if it's possible.

ah yes, that would solve both our complaints

Agreed that a customization open would be awesome. I kinda like the new stuff and kinda miss the old stuff.

My guess is that collapsable DHTML (that saves your preferences) is the way to go.
I'll look into it.

Yeah the collapsable idea is a good one. Maybe have the listings on the top be horizontal instead of vertical like it is now. Right now there are too many topics to look at.

I dunno if its possible but maybe we could have the option to creat our own section, because say I usually dont look on the trades section, so I dont have it up to cut down on space. Every once in awhile I might see something that interests me but not enough to warrant keepin it in its own section. So I was wondering if I there could be an option to combine some of sections.

I'll have to use it for awhile. First impression is that is seems cluttered but that may be because of the massive gamefly listing on the left of the page.

I guess I can get use to it. What is the Regional section all about?
P.S. does it snow in Japan?

Right now it's too much, way too cluttered. The good thing about the 2 groups was that they were always updated, always changing. Me thinks that there will be a bunch of stagnant topics on the front page, which isn't a good thing. That collapsable idea is a good one, but I don't know how it would work.
So...one vote for the old way I guess.
Edit, because i just got home and I'm finding that I can barely even surf anymore:
A lot of CAGs don't use the front page and instead go right to the forums, but some CAGs (like me) used the front page often. A big part of that was the simplicity. The new layout pretty much just copies the forums and pastes them onto the front page...but it's like...we already have the forums for that! The only thing now is the "view new posts" button, but that's ugly and cumbersome. The "old" CAG front page was pretty, efficient, and simple.
Perhaps a poll asking "How often do you use the front page for viewing posts, and how do you like the new layout?" or something to that effect.
The situation kind of reminds me of New Coke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Coke).
Also, Deal Discussion seems kind of out of place with Auctions/Trading (which both seem well paired). I think it's a good idea to have VGD as its own group, but maybe put Deal Discussion with Regional deals (since with B&M, deal discussion is inherently regional anyway.) Maybe with DVD/Other deals, but not with trading.

I really like the idea of a customizable homepage but I hope I don't miss out on some great conversation because I don't have a forum set to appear. I've always wished new posts in the vs. forum made it to the front page because there's some good stuff in there when people aren't being assholes.

The customizable idea is good, cause I certainly don't want to see all the sections at once.

I like it.
Increased functionality without having to take an aesthetic hit.
Collapsable sections probably would be the best of both worlds though.
Evilmax17 does have a good point about the display of underutilized sections.
That's something you'll want to pay attention to, as having a thread where the latest updates were more than 48 hour ago gives a false impression of the boards at large.

I never see the front page anyway. So, you know, whatever.

I'm seeing too many sections that I really don't care for, and I have don't like all the extra scrolling down to get to what I want. No big deal though, I'll probably get used to it.

Get rid of the regional deals and DVD section and it's cool.

I like it. The forums are the heart of CAG anyway, and that deserves front page status.

Well, part of the goal of this is to make those sections no longer underutilized! ;)
Those who dislike it...give it a chance for a week. Then we can re-evaluate.

Just another small suggestion, the forum sections should be links to them. Like "CAG Video Game Deals" bring you to that forum. If that makes sense.

im getting the same previews, or whatever, for all sections, looks like its the regional deals, so under all sections like video game discussion, its regional deals

For those that like the old style, you might want to switch your bookmark to this (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/archives/001065.php). I just stumbled upon it.

Actually, you can click on any deal headline (the green text) and get that, so you don't really need to change your bookmarks. ;)
I meant to mention that previously.

Seems to have been a fairly seamless transition.
Hopefully a few people discover a few new favorite haunts thanks to the expanded look at what's on the board.
