Didn't see it posted but that's low, real low. I pity the people who were excited for this one.

PS2 version got a 4.7, in case you're wondering if it can get any worse.
Yoiks, I figured Sega was trying to supress the reviews on this one, and now that confirms why.
At least Sonic Rush did right by the franchise.
Still it's sad--it looked promising and the trailers/concept were intriguing, but IIRC the buzz on Shadow wasn't hot even back at the major tradeshows like E3.
Oh well, saves me some $$$.

wow, thats just ... well back the drawing board eh
I don't know if I'm the only one who feels this way, but looking back, the other 3-D Sonic efforts fuckin' sucked.
I was too jaded by how awesome it was to see Sonic in 3-D to realize that the games were borderline unplayable.

I rented it, and while it was kinda lame, I don't think it deserved a score that low >_>

I sorta was. I thought this game would be a mix between Sonic and Ratch and Clank, as was described before by journalists. But after tormenting myself through Sonic Heroes, I think that I will pass on this and any other Sonic game until they fix that damn camera issue that has been around since Sonic Adventure 1.
Sorta sad when you think about it. Issue thats been around since what 1999, and hasn't been fixed.

Two out of five from GamePro...
Five out of ten from EuroGamers...
Hm... guess I won't be pickin' this one up. =)

Not surprising. It wasn't really all that fun when I got to play it. A little hard to control even with the roller skates on Shadow.
I must admit that I greatly enjoyed both Sonic Adventures, though they had their flaws, but this game didn't sound good from the get go. It truly sounded terrible, and from what I played of it, just awful. Bad idea, bad concept, bad everything.

Thank god this POS is being viewed as such. It is wrong on so many levels. And no, I've not played it, nor will I ever. A sonic character with guns is just WRONG! What's next mario going street and being in extreme sports and dance titles? Oh, wait, nevermind...

Jaded? Do you mean enamored?
having actually play this game, i have to disagree with the reviews. Easily one of the best 3d sonic game (much better than heroes)
Jaded? Do you mean enamored?
Cynically or pretentiously callous (to).

Cynically or pretentiously callous (to).
The sentence doesn't make much sense, then.

After playing the abomination that was Shadow, I was ready to swear off the entire Sonic universe. Good thing Sonic Rush kicks so much ass it isn't funny. It's a sad day when a second rate developer like Dimps out does Sonic team with their own franchise.
Sonic Team (and sega as a whole) is in need of a makeover.

It is shit like this that makes me question company's decisions.
Capcom can release a game like Resident Evil 4, and in the same year, Resident Evil: Outbreak File #2.

RE:O was an awesome idea for a game, just poorly executed.

I agree. I think it could have taken the genre in a whole new direction. But, like you said, it wasn't executed correctly. The developers had to of known things weren't going as-planned.
Resident Evil 4 was restarted 4 times. That's dedication.

Well, apparently I'm one of VERY few people who was DYING to play this game....
I've bought and completed every Sonic game and compilation (even Chaotix....go 32x with all 3 of your decent games!) and I imported the US version of this the day it came out (I had to "import" it cuz I live in Japan).
Underwhelming? YES. A terrible game? Not really.
My main complaint is that the graphics are very inconsistent. Usually this type of thing doesn't bother me, but comparing the opening movie to the in-game movies and in-game graphics, it seems like 3 different games. The opening movie (and a few other in-game/ending movies) are stunning. Top-notch animation and everything. The in-game graphics seem to be a mix of SA2 and S-Heroes. The Shadow model looks quite good, but some of the enemies/partner characters look like they were pulled from the DC versions. Also, most of the in-game cutscenes somehow look WORSE than the in-game graphics. Again, they're not TERRIBLE, its just a bit distracting.
As for the gameplay, it takes some serious getting used to. The camera isn't all that great (as usual) and some stages will drive you crazy with their hidden paths. The gunplay is awkward at first too. But....after you play through each stage a couple times (which is necessary to get the multiple and, after that, true ending(s)), you get the hang of it and it gets to be quite fun. Some stages are actually REALLY fun and reminded me a lot of classic 2D sonic. Good stuff.
Overall, I'd give the game about a 7 or a high 6. Its really decent for a Sonic fan, but I can see how a casual gamer would be disappointed.
On a side note, the Japanese version is going to have an exlclusive remix by my favorite J-Hip Hop group, M-FLO! Fucking awesome.

I knew that this game wouldn't do so good from the start. Why did they give Shadow a 9mm? Its like giving Mario a shotgun.
