Wow, maybe I'm more happy that I didn't win the contest. If I would've gotten it and it wouldn't have worked some skulls would have been broken.

Probably damaged during shipping... Hard Drives are susceptible to that.

Its under warranty, they'll replace it. Are they crying because they have to wait slightly longer for their FREE 360?

So you're saying that you're happy you didn't get $500+ worth of free stuff, even though, in the rare case that it was defective, since everything is obviously still under warranty, MS would fix it for free?

I am sure plenty of people will come streaming in here with "OMG teh 360 sucks they are all broken", but things like this happen with every single launch of every single piece of video game hardware. Shoot, the disc open button on my GameCube started sticking the third time I even pressed the thing down. And I don't think I need to say anything about the PS2. Actually, looking at MS's track record with the original Xbox, I'm not really concerned.

I'll still be buying a warranty though.

You know what, screw you that made way too much sense. Anyway, I was just pissed because I put in 203 caps into a drawing of 800 and didn't win!

Hmm... I'd hate to be involved in a 360 launch auction, having to deal with defects and whatnot.

Launch systems actually do SUCK Balls. PS2 bought it the day it came out i got the Read disc error. PSP Bought it the came out and i got dead pixels on it. Xbox bought it the day it came out and i also got the read disc error. PS2 and XBOX were repaired for Free. PSP i got used to it.

See, i've had polar opposite results. Bought a PS2 on launch day and it works fine to this day, though my brother traded it in a month or two ago to get the slim PS2. I had even dropped it and broke the controller ports, I opened it up and manually realigned everything and it still worked fine.

Bought a XBox on launch day.. it lasted a while but started giving me BS when Raw 2 came out.. traded it in a while ago.. got a PS2 and games.. then traded/sold the PS2 and games and got a new XBox.

Bought the DS @ launch (a few weeks after, anyway) and didn't have any problems.

I guess that means i'm long overdue for some issues..

Of course, why wouldn't it? I think it's a 90 day one.

I hope this is indeed a shipping error and isn't a problem with the first wave of 360's themselves, God have mercy on Microsoft's souls if this effects eBay hoarding profits.

Hum, yet another reason that I'm not in all that much of a hurry to get a 360 anymore. My interest lost steam when I realized I was more hyped about the system itself than any launch game. Ah well, at least Amped 3 and PGR3 look good so far.

Ditto. I'm so lazy I probably wouldn't even hook up my free system for several days if I got one. I probably wouldn't deserve to win anyway in that case.

You do realize that every 360 made will have to make it through various stages of shipment (airplane, truck, etc...). Unless we go to the magic xbox 360 factory in china and have a unicorn deliver it to us on a silver platter.

While I am jealous of people that won the Mt. Dew contest, that would really suck if the console itself was caput. I wonder how long it'll take to have replacements available. If your launch unit it shot, how many weeks will you have to sit on it until the store gets one in to swap out?

Dr Mario Kart
11-20-2005, 12:40 PM
Given this and how low the launch quantities are, I'd have to say that MS is REALLY trying to emulate the PS2 launch here.

Seems like people at xbox-scene think it's a heat problem (makes sense.) They also all hear a "rattling" noise in the 360, so be on the look out for that.

On the other hand, the people at joystiq left theirs on for 30 hours with no problems.

Only because you probably read it as "defecations".

I would if we knew for a fact that it was only the every10minutes 360's. But we won't know that until Tuesday.

Solution for Ebay sellers: Ship with insurance. If I decide to sell mine I'm going to insure, track, and everything I can to avoid having to give a refund for something that won't be my fault. I'm getting mine from Freepay so I wouldn't even know where to return it since I wouldn't be the purchaser.

I'll proably end up getting it. The first systems of evrey console has a higher defect rate then normal and for 60$ I can protect my free system.

yes they all have to be shipped to the states, but trust me thats not nearly as bad as what they will go through when put onto the fed-ex or UPS trucks. Trust me I work at a hardware store and get shipments from UPS every day. The Back of his truck is a mess packages always fall over when he unloads my stuff, and he is just like "fuck it".

And you think that's much better than the large freight trucks that bring stuff to Best Buy, Target, WalMart, etc? It's not like these things are being shipped in their own little isolated bubble-wrap-and-packing-peanut-filled containers.

No, but they do tend to arrive in flats in which they are all shrink-wrapped together. This prevents the deliverer from chucking the package around at free will. Freight routes also have much fewer sorting warehouses to be processed through.

90 freakin days? On a $400 "1.0" hardware release? That's pathetic. It's either that M$ isn't very confident in their contract mfr's QC, or they're conspiring to make some $ on PSP's, or both.

Ha! That seems to be the usual demeanor for a UPS driver.

11-20-2005, 11:43 PM
As another poster said when they come in the freight trucks, they are a lot better takin care of. They will all be bundled together and in shrink wrap held together to prevent bouncing around and damaging the product. When your single 360 is shipped via UPS it is just alone sitting in a box on the floor or shelf of a van. Easily bouncing around and alot more liekly to get damaged.

lionheart4life
11-21-2005, 03:53 PM
Is the trunk of your car really much more secure than the back of a UPS truck? No matter what, a console is going to hit some mild bumps on the way to your house no matter who is doing the shipping. I'm sure that they have the system in styrofoam blocks or something within the box to minimize damage.
