Every10minute winners have you checked the capacity of your hard drive. Mine has a capacity of 13 GB and only 12 GB free space. By no means am I whining or complaining because it was free, but I've seen threads on the internet of owners having problem with theirs. Also it is a heads up for the people planning on buying premiums. I've already seen Hard Drive's on shelves and if you really wanted 20 GB you might want to go with core, but you do save money on all the accesories included in the premium. Just thought I'd let you all know.

I would imagine that it's 20gb but has 7gb reserved for BC, saved game files for BC games, demos, marketplace items and other XBox Live stuff.. makes sense, maybe they're stored in two seperate parts so corrupted files can't corrupt other things or something.. if that's the case and the 13gb is used exclusively for 360 saved games and music.. man, that's a lot of space.

Makes a little sense Scorch seeing as how the user has the option to format their Hard Drive. I guess they particianed the drive and hid the other 7 GB at least lets hope so. So are you looking forward to Tuesday. Also I'm not sure of the list of games you've pre ordered, but if you haven't preordered Kameo I strongly reccomend it. Granted it is a little "kiddieish", but if you like Rare titles besides Grabbed the Ghoulies you will like this title.

Dunno if this has anything to do with it but first the image

it's clearly labeled as 20gb. however I haev seen many Samsung Notebook harddrives with signifigantly less space than what thier model number dictates. I've seen one that's supposedly 250 GB with 120GB actual space after format. It's kind of strange....

Scorches theory seems dead on to me.

It is 7GB reserved... The 13gb only refers to what is available to you, not the entire drive. Its partitioned.

It was the same with the Xbox's hard drive, wasn't it? It was 10gb but you only had access to 8 of it I thought.

Well, some were 10's, but they only used 8 regardless. And you didn't have 8 available to you, part of that was reserved as well.

There were two different hard drives used in the original Xbox. One had 8 GB, the other 10GB, but you could always only use 8.
And yes, I did notice that my 360 had far less than 20 GB available. Oh well, I'm sure I'll be one of the early adopters when the release a bigger hard drive anyway.

Delete the extra HD videos that come on the drive, from Gameinformer (http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200511/N05.1115.2020.00046.htm):
"All of these movies are HD quality, and total running time is approximately 30 minutes. The music, videos, and Halo 2 emulator all rack up to suck 8GB out of your 20GB hard drive. I’m assuming that the HD video sucked up most of it, so don’t be afraid when you check to see how much hard drive space you have and it only says 12GB. Dump that video!"

Referring to any title as "kiddiesh" shows how truly immature you are.
There's a partition in the harddrive for the XBOX 360 operating system. I read that in EGM or OXM a couple of months ago.

I doubt the Xbox 360's partioned space for the operating system, if it even has partioned space for it, would be 8gb..

The partition probably contains a lot of different things, not just the OS (which probably takes up a decent amount.) The Xbox 1 virtual system, for one thing.

It isn't for the OS since the 360 runs just fine with no HD.
Remember the core? The one no one will buy?

Immature! So how would you label "Hello Kitty: Roller Rescue"? Take your fucking comments elsewhere. Every gamer will tell you this is marketed to a younger crowd, granted it is rated "T", but that is for animated blood and violence. So far from what I've played I'd entrust this game to my 6 yr. old niece and not worry about the content presented to her. NEXT!

That just sounds like you need to update the BIOS. Back in the day, 512mb was a HUGE hard drive. A 250GB drive was unfathomable, so they only coded bios to map out a finite amount of space on a drive. Now, the limit has been raised to somewhere in the area of 4 petabyes, IIRC.

I would expect all that emulation software would take up alot of space, and of course it wouldn't be accesable to you!

How the hell is a T-rated game "aimed toward that younger audience"? Shut up, goat.

no seriously guys, Samsung just has jacked up drives. No the OS is not on the hard drive, then what would the core people run =p? And even if it was I doubt it would take up 8 GB.
It's just the way the Samsung drives are.

I don't think that makes sense becuase the OS has to be not on the hard drive becuase how would people without one use thier Xbox in the first place. Same thing with the emulation I think it is all installed as firmware some where in the 360.
I'm sure that partitioning is the answer. Wouldnt make sense otherwise. Also since it is a regular notebook ATA drive it should be a peice of cake to upgrade.
On a side note : were not developers saying that the 360 would be impossible to crack for a while due to all the safegaurds?

yes yes, I phailed-- the OS isn't in the partition. I don't know what takes up 7 gigs, i'm sure a lot of it is left open "just in case" they need to do some critical update or something.
regardless, I doubt they were thinking "HA HA LET's screw them all over and only give them 13 gigs!"
once the thing gets cracked, we'll find out the story.

dood...... I already gave the real answer =p. that's just how Samsung drives format...

heh. remember with the XB hard drive you could go through and unlock extra space previously unreadable? The F drive gave you a good chunk that wasn't in the official specs as user-accessable. I'm sure it's same thing. I chunked the videos and never had above 13GB free.

They already said on Xbox.com that the space is used for updates and emulation.

I heard that the smaller actual memory space was lost during formatting...but then again, I know very little about drives.
I can't imagine using 13 GB, though I guess this is a problem for the Modders

I'm sure that the 360's OS is on flash memory on the motherboard, and that it's tiny (less then 64 MB).

The hard drive is partioned so it has a saves folder, which in the original Xbox was around 5 GB or so. This would explain why you only have access to 13GB.
