View Full Version : Is there really a difference between 10, 7, and 5 day listings?

I put a game for sale on ebay as a 10 day listing, but I just got a bunch of watches and no bids really until the last three days. So, do you have better luck with 10 day listings, or with shorter listings, like 5 or 3 days?

I've found that doing a longer auction you may get more people looking at it, but usually the major bidding doesn't start until the last day like you said. I usually use 5 day auctions, it's a good medium between having the auction be visible for a while, but not having to wait too long for it to end.
More watchers equals more bidders. I would say that the majority of bidding for most of my items happens in the last 24 hours.
5 day auctions are too short. 7 days are good since you have every day of the week covered. 10 days are best if you time it so you get two weekends.

I usually always extend mine to at least cover the weekend.

If you have a more common item you should list in for five days, if you're desperate for money 3, if you have a rare item you should consider listing for 10 days to give more people a chance to search for it and see it. There's no sense in listing a common item for 10 days when there is 20 of em' on there already.

Depends on the item, for newer or high traffic rare games even a 1 day auction can work fine.

I did seven days and started 'em all at $0.01. I had a handful of watchers within a day, which resulted in pretty respectable prices... even with like three days left.

I use 7 day listings, so plenty of people can view the auction. 10 days seems too long (I think after 7 days people don't want to keep an eye on the auction for that long) and it costs extra so I don't use it

So, do you have better luck with 10 day listings, or with shorter listings, like 5 or 3 days? I see no reason to use 3 or 5 days. A 7 day auction is visible for a longer time period, and costs the same 10 cents. If someone is shopping Monday night, they'll see your 7-day auction.... but if you had used 5-day, then that person would not see it (cause it ain't listed yet!).
As for 10-days, I think they're good for rare/hard-to-find games, because then you can cover two weekends & more people will see it. I've already got two 10-day auctions with very active bidding after just one weekend. The second weekend will bring even more bidders.
Also you should set your start price at 0.99. The listing fee is still only 10 cents, but you get almost a full dollar more from your single-bid auctions.
If it's a piece-of-trash that doesn't sell at 0.99, then use the free relist option at 0.01, during week #2.
