I beat the game but never unlocked him. Did Nintendo take him out at the last second?

From what I understand, Shy Guy is only available during single-cart share-play.

Correct, it states that somewhere in the instruction booklet I do believe.

i really want there to be a way to unlock shy guy, i feel cheated in a way, when i read the instructions... i mean hes coded in there, let me use him!

Shy Guy is available only during Download Play and the person without the game has to play as Shy Guy. As for the color maybe its random?

I have played share play with 4 ds's total and each shy guy was a diif color. Its either random or its a color assinged to each joining player...
Ie player 3 is always red or whatever...
