View Full Version : hugo & poison's recruiting thread- all fighters welcome (fighter thread 8)
I know I am really late, but I just a PS2 and Soul Caliber 3 and Tekken 5. I love Tekken 5 its the 2nd best fighting game I have ever played. MvC2 will always be my favorite. Tekken 5 is a great game though.

actually the whole thing with slayer reading Haiku makes sense, since slayer seems to be of high class and a "sophisticate!"...
Actually what I ment to say was that his Haiku is odd. I know Slayer's a high class vampire and would seem the type to write poems, but his actual Haiku is strange. From what I remember he talks about dirty politicians and other stuff that has no relation to him or the game.
I guess Guilty Gear is the only game I know of with instant kill moves. Bushido Blade is ment to be realistic so instant kills are mostly ment in every strike. Time Killers seems so random it isn't really a move, just luck most the time. And I know Killer Insticnt 2 has finishers you can preform during a combo, but only if your oppennents almost dead already, so it just for flash mainly.

Time Killers seems so random it isn't really a move, just luck most the time.Actually in addition to the random decapitations, there was a universal death move performed by pressing all five attack buttons at once. It was blockable, but if it got a clean hit it would cut off all the opponent's appendages and end the match.
Why am I still talking about Time Killers?!?!?!?

Okay, I'll count that as a instant kill. Is it a one time use like Guilty Gear or can you do it over and over?
I remember playing Time Killers when it first came out in the arcades and I was play with my brother. I was using the dude with the chainsaw (Rancor I think) and I chopped off both of my oppennents arms. I had full life and my I only need like 2 hits to win, and I end up lossing to a bunch of "head" attacks. That pissed me off and I've never played the game since.

a good note to those who need to save money: the TRU sale has some good deals on decent fighters and whatnot all $10:
Death by Degrees (crap, but I'm picking it up, just for the plain fact f the Tekken connection)
Beatdown
Darkstalkers for PSP
SF: AC
and I think possibly GG Isuka
if you want a real Midway vs. Capcom, there needs to be spme rampage characters thrown in as well as Killer 7 characters since the game will obviously have a darker mood.... nice cover though!
Haven't been playing T5 as much anymore after realizing I am at the top of my game... now all I need is the competition. Plus, I need someone to train me to be damn good at 2d fighters... i need a sensei with gargantuan lambchops, and then I have a winner...?
also, just popped in GGXX yesterday into my PS2 for old times sake... man, I miss playing as slayer, that guy has one damn nice tie... and cape... and pipe... and girl... and QCB+S (or punch???), P/K...

at least I was able to pick up Beatdown (mediocre/almost good, but there's a few unique things in it I'd like to see in other beat-em-ups), Death by Degrees (again, crap, but I havent touched it yet...), and Digital Devil Saga 1 which will prob be for trade (PM me if you want it) since I have been on a 6 year RPG diet that I plan to break when FFXII comes out. Almost picked up another copy of Tekken 5 for the hell of it... at least at $10 now nobody has an excuse to not play the game... so get it!!! (good for you Guilwasnk).

My TRU is verrrry deceptive. Went in to get my 360 today and they told me I needed to buy 3 games with it, I said whatever and figured I'd just return them later today anyway. Then I looked in the case in the 360 games and saw about 20 copies of DoA4. I knew it was too good to be true, but I told the guy to get me one. of course, they were display copies only! Then I looked up, saw 5 copies T5, all display, went to pick out my 360 games, 10 copies of CoD2 sitting there, all display...I was joking with the guy and asked him if his store was just a front for a drug smuggling ring, to which he responded "yes, it is actually."

Yeah, I picked up Tekken 3 a couple months ago, just to watvh the endings. Tekken always did have the best endings. He's a couple questians to start some conversation.
1. Best Opening - Soul Edge for PSX, I loved it and still looks cool.
2 .Cheesiest/ Lame Opening - Battle Arena Toshinden 2, live actors are never a good idea.
3. Best Ending - Mokujin, Tekken 3
4. Hardest character to master - Angel (KOF), very complicated move set for a 2D fighter.
5. Most Unique Character - I'd say Bridget from Guilty Gear, not only does she have a unique moveset, but his character is also difffrent. I really don't like Bridget tough. But most of the cast from GG is very unique.
6. Most overlooked - JoJo's and Evil Zone
7. Fighter you love that everyone else hates - Battle Arena Toshinden 3, I don't know why, don't make fun of me too much.
8. Good idea, awful delivery - Ehrgeiz
9. Best Music - KOF 98' I miss the fact that each character had their own theme, we don't see that anymore.
10. A comic book character you would have liked to see in MvC - Silver Surfer
Roufuss

1. Best Opening - Soul Blade on PS One still is my favorite.
2 .Cheesiest/ Lame Opening - Battle Arena Toshinden 2 (Gotta agree with Rodimus on this one as well)
3. Best Ending - Blanka loves his mommy! Aww!!
4. Hardest character to master - For me it would be any character with 360 motions like Zangief.
5. Most Unique Character - Voldo. He must have the same "sense" Daredevil has to fight.
6. Most overlooked - Project Justice and Last Blade 2
7. Fighter you love that everyone else hates - DOA series. Not that everyone hates it but I think it is criticized unfairly at times.
8. Good idea, awful delivery - WeaponLord. Great idea but too damn tough for its own good.
9. Best Music - Soul Blade on PS One. Still unsurpassed IMO.
10. A comic book character you would have liked to see in MvC - Beast, Jubilee, Bishop and She-Hulk to name a few!
MarkMan
12-23-2005, 08:15 PM
1. Best Opening - Soul Edge/Blade(PS1), Tekken 5(PS2), Tobal 2(PS1 JPN).
2 .Cheesiest/ Lame Opening - Street Fighter The Movie
3. Best Ending - Tekken 2 - Kazuya(SPOILERS: This is the one where Devil is about to shoot a laser beat at Kazuya, then Heihachi jumps and takes the laser head on to save his son. After Kazuya shows a VERY VERY VERY small speck of sadness before he does his famous evil grin and picks up Heihachi's body and uses it as a human shield to block more lasers and throws it at Devil, finally finishing Devil with a TGF...(thunder god fist). !
4. Hardest character to master - This could go either way... I'll only speak on what I know. For Tekken... to actually master, I'd say Mishima's and Nina are among the hardest to attain the highest skill level for. Mishima's need a lot of work, but once you get the technical skill down, you're good to go... and Nina, I can still count the good Nina players on one hand...
5. Most Unique Character -I'd say Bridget too... Bridget is a guy btw. Also AI from Neo Geo Battle Colosseum.
6. Most overlooked - Tobal No. 1 & Tobal 2.
7. Fighter you love that everyone else hates - Can't think of any off hand... Maybe Soul Calibur III? Most of the players that play it competitively aren't really feelin' the game anymore...
8. Good idea, awful delivery - Mortal Kombat: Deception.
9. Best Music - TEKKEN 5: DARK RESURRECTION!.
10. A comic book character you would have liked to see in MvC - Although he's not part of the Marvel universe, I'd love to see Superman in that type of game....
Happy Holidays all!

I thought MvC2 had too many chracters from the X-Men already, (since they added them in from vs X-Men game) so I found it odd that they added two more characters from the X-Men universe (Cable & Marrow.) I was surprised they didn't take more characters from Spiderman also. If they had to add someone from the X-Men it should have been Nightcrawler.
And I agree with you on the Avengers and FF. Plus other less popular characters like Morg, Terrax, Hobgoblin & Cypher.

Yea, I mean, Morrow? Two versions of Wolverine?
I thought Cable was a cool addition, though, he wasn't really a member of the x-men at the time.
I seem to remember something about other companies had certain licenses, and Capcom didn't have an all inclusive Marvel license, which is why none of the Fantastic Four were in. Marvel Vs Capcom 2 really could have been so much more, imo. Fantastic Four is my favorite comic, and they would have fit into this game so so so perfectly.
Would have loved to have seen Hawkeye and Thor, as well. I mean, I can't even believe they didn't use Daredevil, or Ghost Rider.

1. Best Opening - Tekken 5... in fact, it's the best intro to any game I've ever played... also KOF '98
2 .Cheesiest/ Lame Opening - KOF Max Impact
3. Best Ending - Either Hwoarang's T5 ending or (cant remember which alpha... 2?) dan hibiki's that was a Art of Fighting parody
4. Hardest character to master - I have enough of a hardass time playing the good 2d characters... so yeah. Probably Geese for me since his damn super is too hard to do! (I cna do it perfectly on the NGPC oddly enough though...)
5. Most Unique Character - Probably Bryan Fury... he's really no stereotype of anything except for himself... a deranged cop who got killed and was brought back to life as a cyborg... (no robocop refrences please!)
6. Most overlooked - Project Justice and Waku Waku 7, and possibly Darkstalkers, but I can't give it that much credit.
7. Fighter you love that everyone else hates - Pocket Fighter... the control scheme was just oddly appealing!
8. Good idea, awful delivery - Any of the fighters that came out on the N64
9. Best Music - T5 and T5DR... it's the only music in a fighter that always gets me pumped no matter how many times I hear it... the wolf stage music in T5DR just kicks too much ass anyway.
10. A comic book character you would have liked to see in MvC - Deadpool... this guy has so many possabilitys, and yet he's always overlooked. Runner up would be Punisher.

It's actually Raging Storm, but the alot of movelists call it Raising-a-Storm. If you were to say Raging Storm with a Japanese accent it would sound more like Raising-a-Storm. But anyways that's the move alot of people have problems with (DB,HCB,DF + P). Being a good Zangief player helps cause you learn alot of shortcuts with the d-pad. Along with Yamazaki, Geese is one of the best defensive players. I like using Geese alot.

I never was a great zangief player (I have a ton of respect for zangief players, but can't play them... the closest I'll ever enjoy that fighting style is with Birdie). 360 is not my friend.
yeah, it's kinda sad kuz my fave KOF characters are the ones I suck with like Billy Kane, Geese, and Yamazaki... damn it! why am I a better fighter with Kyosuke (or whatever his name is... the psycho team boy who eats the rice balls and lost his powers in KOF 99...)...
I've noticed that T5DR is starting to show up at more arcades soon... I highly doubt Miami will get any... :(
If anybody lives by a TRU with the Darkstalkers for PSP, LMK cuz I might be looking to get it...

Rolento - I think you're mean Kensho. He's a decent fighter and plays a bit like a shoto, maybe that's why people don't care for him too much (tired of the style) and why SNK changed his moves-et so much in 99'.
If I get a chance I'll check Boomers in Dania Beach (Between Ft. Lauderdale, and Miami) they're pretty good about getting new games. They got 2 SvC Chaos machines on launch, I was surprised. But be warned, they don't maintain the machines very well. About 50% of the machines are broken in some way.
EDIT - Cosplay nonsense, enjoy:

Bingo. I can't stand the weird Anime-Obsessed kids who've lost a grip on reality. I know a few who think they're half-elf, think they're a dragon tamer, or simply aren't down to earth in general. And for cos-players: for god sakes people, it's just a game. The characters aren't real. Let's stop dressing up like them, and move along.

yeah evanft... initially SCIII can be real cheap, but kinda evens out as you learn to play characters more. But yes, the AI is cheap...
 I hate bringing this up, but that pic GuilwasNK... I reccognize it from a porn series. If you really want to get everyone's attention show the "skin" pics from that series. Plus, the girl in the pic ain't a cosplayer... more like adult pornstar or something...
So it still proves a majority of cosplaying girls really do not look that great. I've only seen about 2 or 3 good looking girl cosplayers. And yes, I can't stand them either, but ever since gamers became less geeky, the cosplayers took the role as the "geekiest/sad" people around now. I respect what they do, but usually not the person themselves (if that makes any sense... to me...?).
Moving on: I just started playing death by degrees. I can say I am intrigued by the control of the game. It may feel a bit too simplistic to me, but after realizing what is possible during some combat in the game, it can get a bit more interesting (not by too much). So far it's a decent game, but I think between Beatdown and Death by Degrees (both TRU sale games), I like Beatdown better. Plus Nina Williams dosn't totally look like herself in-game all the time and starts looking more like pornstar Briana Banks (again with the porn! what kinda life do I live????).

I enjoyed the Death By Degrees demo when it came out. I have the full game but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Hopefully Namco can have their "Ninja Gaiden" like DOA had. I like the idea of side stories like the MK Special Forces games and such. As long as they are done well that is.

The main concern for the delay is due to something having to do with auto log-on with XBL. Microsoft is responsible for the delays, so if it does not come out on the 28th(which seems that way supposedly), you can blame MS for the push into Jan.

Yeah, SCIII is a blast, but can just get a little repetive after a while. It feels like it's lacking something, but I have no idea what it is since the game plays great. Maybe make the game harder to play...? IMO some moves really don't feel like you're doing them... example: I hit A+B with Mitsurigi and he does a two hit combo... it would feel alot nicer to me to do A+B then A or something liek that... plus it gives you more control, thus improving all the characters' mind games. Just a thought.
I need to start looking for tourneys in my area or in orlando/tampa... I want to start competing proffesionally (if that's even a real thing), but need somewhere to start.

There would have to be arcades in Tampa first.

I find that the AI in the later stages of Tales of Souls really hurts that mind. It basically ramps up to a practically unfair level and somewhat ruins the fun of playing the game.
Also, it's alsmost like the game is designed with an arcade stick specifically in mind, as it's really hard to take advantage of many of the 8WR moves or anything that requires hitting multiple buttons at once.

I thought the ToS was pretty easy, but then I chessed out alot with the computer. All ya gotta do is find a move that it has a problem defending against and keep doing it over and over. Example: Monk - Discipline Nunchuks and keep doing A+B, A+B, over and over again.

The CPU AI is retarded, I just gamesharked the shit out of the game so I can have everything available...
For 8WR moves... you can do them instantly by double tapping... so instead of 8WR u/f+A you can do u/f,u/f+A...
Notation for SC if you wanna get into it though goes by the keypad system that Japan uses for their fighting games...

Oddly enough T5 has great endings for almost all the characters. No matter how much you hate the characters, the endings usually kick ass.
Since I'm on the subject of Tekken: It's kinda fun to be playing Death by Degrees and see some Tekken story show up here and there (I love the Tekken story line, even though it's pretty far fetched). One part of the story has one of the main villians discussing the Tekken Force with Ehihachi Mishima, as well as Heihachi recognizing Nina (I think DeathBD took place before the first or second Tekken game). Also, Nina and Anna storys seem to be fleshed out... some Boskonovitch stuff is in their too as well as loads and loads of Posters for Tekken 3, 4, 5... and that's not even mentioning the mouse pads found by computers...

SCIII just seems to have lost some of its depth really. It really hasn't evolved since the original SC. THey really need to start implimenting some new suff into it. Tekken has evolved more by adding a great reversal system as well as always improving their juggle physics. VF just always gets better for no needed explanations. Oh well...

as a 2d enthusiast with no interest in 3d fighters, i'm pretty mediocre at games like tekken and soul calibur, and i play against other mediocre players.. so generally speaking, i don't notice the little things either. i think that what makes it funner for me and you though.
like if i'm playing cvs2, and i'm getting roll cancel-flash kicked the shit out of me non-stop, all i'm thinking is "FUCK YOU ROLL CANCEL ALKWJFOIWAE"
if i'm playing tekken 5, who knows what the fuck is going on on either joystick cuz me and the other guy don't know shit and we're just throwing out whatever strings and juggles we knew from back in tekken 2 and 3 that might still work, much less use any high-level tactics

I still think SC is the best in the series. Personally i think SCII is worth getting if you already own three but not for PS2. THere is noticable slowdown sometimes that does not occur in the Xbox version. Not sure about the GC version though. And if you really like Link or Spawn that can sway you to one of those versions. You can also find the game pretty cheap now

so i'm loading up my new ipod video that my lady gave me for christmas with a crapload of ocremixes and it got me thinking about fighting game soundtracks.
what's everyone's favorite music/theme from a fighting game?
i'm pretty partial to:
dudley stage - sf3: third strike
ken stage - sf2: world warrior
My favorite is Rock's theme from Soul Blade. I enjoy the original and Khan Super Session versions. It's just a mighty powerful theme.

So DOA 4 should be out tomorrow. Ign posted there review and gave it a 9.0. It's not a bad read go check it out http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/678/678269p1.html. Anyway they note changes to the counter system and a couple other changes. I'm pretty happy that you have less time tull off a counter now. It might make the game a little more complex. Online fighting was said to be 99% lag free which is a very big deal to me. I'm not the biggest fan of the DOA series but for some reason I want to play this one. I'll let you guys no how it is whatever day it decides to show up in stores. Either today or tomorrow.

I guess my favorite music from a fighting game right now is the waterfall stage music in Tekken 5 "Formless Like Water".
And Ryu's stage music in Street Fighter 3 - 3rd Strike.

So I sent a quick email to SNK Playmore about the possibility of the JPN PS2 Fatal Fury Mark of Wolves coming to US...
So I notice that this game was released in Japan for the PS2. What is
the possibility that you might release this game in the USA for either
the PS2 or Xbox. Ever since Capcom vs. SNK 2 I've been wanting to play
Rock Howard in another game. Please bring Mark of Wolves to the USA!
I got this response from SNK Playmore today:
PS2 only in Japan. Sony will not allow in USA. Hopefully someday a new
version in USA.
Man, if the hold up of this game not coming out to the USA is Sony that is extremely disappointing. It appears they only let SNK bring out 2-D games to the PS2 if it's a compilation like Metal Slug 4/5 and King of Fighter 03/04. Now I'm seriously looking at ways to play import games on my PS2 because I feel I'm going to miss out on some awesome fighters that will never be released here.

played DoA4 today here in Puerto Rico. I'm actually on my cousin's computer (which not surprisingly has a bunch of pron lying around on it...). It's not as impressive as I was hoping it to be, but still fun. I'm sure 90% of the improvements were the online modes, but I may be wrong.
I only want a 360 for this game, but it's not enough to make me buy one...
one minor complaint I have is that all the characters that have had great costumes in past games now have oddly or just bad clothing, and the characters that use to have bad clothing actually look better... ???

damn....can't remember the last I was up till 3 playing a game  well, doa4 has blown away my expectations. Ultimate has been so completely bland for the past 6 months and this is just what I needed. here's my minireview:
to really understand the changes you'd have to have played the other games, but in general, it's a much tighter and more aggressive game, with all the old reliable safeguards removed, and many moves rearranged and tons of new ones added. the different stuns you can put your opponent into make for a lot of interesting set ups. the game just punishes the hell out wasted moves, which I love. it feels kinda tekken-ish in that sense, kinda like once you hit the ground in a corner in tekken, you're screwed, if your opponent knows what he is doing(from my noob perspective.) I can't wait to see how this game will be played in a couple months.
online is exactly the same, besides the lobby, zack's market, and the amount of people a room can hold. Story mode is quite entertaining, though I doubt I'll revisit it much now that I've unlocked all I can from it. the story is more comprehensible and cohesive this time. you see one story from all the character's perspectives, apart from a few side stories, and you play through them all to get the big picture. of course, it all ties together with helena's ending, which was pretty awesome (even for someone like me who doesn't care about game stories that much.) Mad props to team ninja for putting a lot of effort into tying the doa story together. Doubt there wll be another doa game after it though...there's been rumors about that and the ending is very conclusive.

DoA4 is an improvement, but IMO, not as much as I hoped... fuzzy gaurd is still in... I like how you can charge some throws now... the counter/reversal issue still plays a huge role, but it's no problem if you know how to punish it(IE Hi-C throw).
But it's fun playing it on a stick lol.

Picked up DOA yesterday. Didnt get a chance to play it until today, but its defenitly the best in the series. The final boss sucks though and is cheap, but that is expected. It's harder to pull off counters now which makes the game a lot more fun to me. It serperates button mashers and pepole that know what there doing. Im unlocking all the charchters now (you have to beat the story mode with each guy). Some people are complaing the AI is hard, but it hasnt been a problem so far. They give you a decent challebeg on normal though. I havent tried Live yet, probably momnday ill be up and playing. If anyone wants to play my tag is XSOLBadguyX.

Like everyone ele I got my hands on DOA4 today. I was playing online and did pretty good, I surprised myself. Most mayches I played had no lag which felt great, the way a fighter should be played. Still it's what I expected, not a big change, still plays the same with minor improvments. Very fast, and still a bit button mashy for my tastes.

I still think itagaki needs to go for a little more realism with the characters... something closer to the new rumble roses for the 360... Sadly that looks slightly more interesting to me than DOA4 (and yes, it is way more shallow)

not really. you can't sum it up that simply, though of course most people will since the series has such a stigma attached to it (especially from tekken fans, ahem  ) Ultimate is doa2...this game is a sequel to 3. once people stop playing like ultimate online and get into the new system, it'll be pretty hot. right now it's a bore online...even the AI on Very Hard is more fun to fight :-)
definitely agree about the graphics. it seems obvious that they rushed the game out after getting the gameplay down. it's pretty unpolished for a Team Ninja game...especially the hair and detail on the character models-- they could've added a couple thousand more polygons and kept the same style, but I'm sure the pressure was on. Can't wait to see their first game developed entirely on the final dev kit. it's too bad they won't be making anymore fighting games this gen, but they went out with a blast.

As primarily a Tekken player... I don't think any of Tekken has been added at all. Sure moves hit on the floor now(but that should have been fixed long ago as it was sooo annoying seeing limbs go through opponents on the floor)... I'd say it's more of it's own flavor the way they added the new things. The oki in DOA4 is not like Tekken oki in terms of attacking the enemy while grounded.
Granted the depth is still nowhere near Tekken or VF as most of the moves are useless, especially online.
But it's a lot more fun than DoA3 and DOAU thus far...

I wish you could grab while they're stunned, that would make grabing more effective, but maybe cheaper. Throws always seem to be a chore to connect. Plus unlike Tekken and VF there really isn't any move that's insanely hard to pull off. All the moves are fairly simple to do. Compare the chain grabs from DOA to Tekken. That's not nessacaraly a bad thing.

I don't think Tekken throws are cheap... they all can be broken... wheras in DoA command throws can not be broken and do modified damage during situations, so there is a bigger risk/reward involved in DoA.
In Tekken throws can be sidestepped/ducked/backdashed/and broken. And punished accordingly.
At least in DR, long range throws will track 100% now. That's a good thing. Especially for the characters that have weak tracking ability.

the throw situation in 4 is great, compared to ultimate, which has been a throw fest for a while. throws were just wayyyyyy too safe in that game. I've landed like less than 10 safe throws thus far in 4...seems like the grapplers have more throw-punishable attacks, but everyone else beats them with anything.
I'm mostly using Hitomi and 15-hit(or more) re-stun combos with kokoro against spartan noobs! I get a lot of satisfaction out of hearing the kids cry "cheap" when I fuck up their precious spartan with a japanese schoolgirl

i wish it would come out on ps2 :(
I got a chance to play the game a few days ago. Here are some of my impressions:
-Ash feels much slower this year. Good chunk of lag on his fireballs, plus he can be knocked out of his qcf, qcf+p super much easier now. back+B isn't comboable from cr. B anymore.
-K' feels a lot slower as well. There's more lag on his Trigger plus the follow-ups.
-Oswald is awesome. Great rushdown and pressure character. He's easily punished on missed stuff, though. Love his sprite and the character overall.
-Eiji has got some easy stuff. Jumping D, Close D into anything is his basic B&B. Has next to no recovery time on most of his moves. His standing E comes out very quick. Easy Dream Cancel from his qcb, hcf+k super.
-Shingo can finally combo stuff into and from his fwd+B.
-Jumping A into hcf+k won't work anymore for Clark. Close C [1 hit], fwd+B, hcf+p into any of the follow-ups is comboable again this year. His LDM still does a ton of damage. With knockback attacks back, Clark's got a great pressure game with his jumping E. His new super sucks.
-Maxima is much improved over his '03 self. Faking his hcb+p gives the potential for good mind games.
-Although toned down, Duolon is still good.
-Shen's best game is still pure rushdown. qcf, qcf+k will now hit after super cancelling from his qcf+p, even if it's part of a combo. Great damage with it, too.
-Terry feels a lot like his '03 self. Being able to break out of his sweep with df+C is nice. Power Charge comes out slower now and won't combo from his close D(!?).
-Ralf's hcf+D Backbreaker still has autoguard on it. hcf+B Backbreaker is his old-school one and can be comboed into.
-I couldn't remember shit with Ramon, so I pretty much got my ass kicked as him.
-Kyo getting his fireball back makes him good at any range now. He's got plenty of options to link into his qcf+C chain.
-The music kicks ass.
-The backgrounds, for the most part, look awesome. Some are pretty empty and dull, though.
Can't wait for the port on this one, whenever it may be. Having to drive an hour just to play it in the arcades sucks.
Anyone been playing the PS2 port of Neo Geo Battle Coliseum? I haven't tried out too many of the characters other than the KOF/FF/AoF/SS cast, but I'm really digging Kisarah.

I'm gonna butt in with a Capcom vs SNK 2 question. I notice that there are two different strategy guides out for the game - one for CvS 2 and one for CvS 2 EO. Now I despise the dreaded "EO-ism" just like everyone else, but does the guide for the EO version benefit from being slightly newer? Or are the guides pretty much identical, with some useless info on EO-ism tacked on to the newer version?
Like I said, EO-ism is dumb, but if the guide for it is just better written overall, or more complete, I'll look for a cheap used copy of it somewhere.

Frisky, I suggest trying Lion, he's a bit harder to use than Jacky, but he's really fun. His options are endless and theres a lot to work from. Theres tons of videos out there via vfdc where you can check out some Lion in action... go watch some of Chibita's vids to get an idea of how he's played.

Hey, I know this isn't exactly the topic of the moment but I just realized that in all my life I have never been able to put off the Charge Back 2 seconds, Forward, Back, Forward + Punch supers in Street Fighter Alpha 3 or CvS2 using a D-pad. I've been able to perform 720 supers but I think this is the only move I haven't been able to do using a D-pad. Example of this is M. Bison and Vegas supers in Street Fighter Alpha 3.
odd... it was totally opposite for me...
Odd news that made me disappointed and happy today:
Good: Today in Puerto Rico I found a Tekken 5 machine with 5.1 ware on it... sad to say it was the first time I had actually seen a T5 arcade machine since no arcades neer me carry the game. It's funny since the machine had a huge sticker saying "NEW! Rom version 5.1!"... It was very nice seeing Kaz's db+3 actually knocking a character down on counter hit...
Bad: I've always wanted a Tekken 5 Customization Card and finally got one. Sadly I put a character I can't play for crap on it by accident :P damn raven! oh well... I;m happy to just own a card :)

I've never used A-Groove much, maybe I should try it out. C-Groove feels like "home" to me but I should experiment with a few others. Occasionally I use that SNK one where you push HP+HK to charge up the meter... and it's fun when you're about to die and you can just start spamming supers like a madman.

Honda has rc headbutt and command grab. If you have a chance look up Mago, last champion at sbo for cvs2. Also if youre using a groove you're better off using A, sakura, vega, bison, rolento, blanka and EAGLE:)

RC Headbutts aren't great because Honda's body is too long. Chun's C-Groove combo is something like poke, lvl2 kicks xx lightning kicks xx lvl 1 kicks xx sj hp, hp. Ken's A-Groove combo is HKxN. Maybe you need to press forward as well.

ok so gamefaqs has a top 10 list for today, top 10 fighting games:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/top10/10.html
this is quite possibly the worst list ever,
no MVC2, CVS2, 3S, or Tekken which is what most ppl play these days.
instead he put stuff like Garou, Last Blade 2, and Vampire Savior.
these games are good, but NOBODY play them!!!
the onyl good thing about the list was at least DOA wasnt included.
here's the list copy pasted:
The Top 10 Greatest Fighting Games
The genre of fighting games as a whole is widely accepted as to merely remove your opponent’s entire bar at the other side of the screen you stare at. However, such a simple idea can be generated into a far more complex engine. The layout as to how to play these games might be thought as many different entities, but developers put deep thought into making gameplay that requires experienced and creative thinking beyond that concept. The most common place to find these type of games are at your local arcade, where the genre originated from and continues make up the bulk of it, which still stands strong today. So, the list below contains games in the fighting genre that are considered as the greatest among the countless ideas.
#10: Marvel vs. Capcom (ARC)
When Capcom had acquired the license to make games under Marvel Comics, they had started with X-Men: Children of the Atom, with a rather interesting fighting game engine using the stars of the comics. It expanded to an image in which characters from the X-Men franchise would join along with the characters from Street Fighter in a tag team battle using two characters on a team instead of the usual 1-on-1. Marvel vs. Capcom is an installment that includes characters ranging from both universes outside of X-Men or Street Fighters with an evolved gameplay derived from Children of the Atom.
#9: Super Street Fighter II Turbo (ARC)
Super Street Fighter II Turbo is the fifth and finalized installment to the original game that started it all in the genre. The game was a commotion worldwide so Capcom decided to create upgrades in newer versions, and the fans had eventually gotten tired of the umpteenth release of virtually the same game and this led to the desertion of a craze that will never be forgotten. Over the time in each upgrade, characters had new gameplay, the roster increased, graphics improved, and a special option was added: increasing the speed as to how the game operates.
#8: Soul Calibur (DC)
Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast is one of the best fighting game ports. Created by Namco, it is a 3D weapons-based series that was not an instant hit until the release of Soul Calibur. Improving upon every aspect that the arcade version had, with clearer graphics and animation and expands new options in the port. Soul Calibur contains a physics engine to counteract with the 3D environment. Up to its time, there was no fighting game without the depth that this provided, and the original still outshines its sequels in effort.
#7: Vampire Savior (ARC)
When you associate Capcom with fighting games, the first thing that's thought of is usually Street Fighter or the company’s cross-over games. Vampire Savior is part of the Darkstalkers series, which Capcom made during the time Street Fighter II was in the arcades, so it only earned a small fanbase. Darkstalkers is somewhat defined as Street Fighter with monsters, but it follows a dark tone and plays slightly faster than your normal Capcom fighting game. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that this series will gain any more fans, as the license has been bought out by Arc System Works.
#6: The King of Fighters '98: The Slugfest (ARC)
The King of Fighters is SNK's trademark series, and their current series that can stand up to the big guns like Capcom's Street Fighter or Namco's Tekken. A series that establishes one game for each following year, The King of Fighters games were originally intended as a dream match of SNK's most popular characters in 3-on-3 battles. This game is the most balanced entry in the entire series, and contains the favorite music tracks of the previous years in it. That is why it is the most liked in the whole series, although SNK can only keep going further with the recent release of The King of Fighters XI on the Atomiswave hardware, with improved mechanics and the decision to stop releasing yearly titles to focus more on the quality of each game.
#5: The Last Blade 2 (ARC)
Previously mentioned in another top ten list, I feel that this game needs more recognition. A sleeper hit by SNK, the two Last Blade games are fairly fast 2D weapons-based fighting games. Taking place during the Bakumatsu in Japan and having characters based on the manga Rurouni Kenshin, The Last Blade gained its share of fans, as SNK develops another 2D weapons-based fighting game series that is better known, called Samurai Shodown, which is still receiving sequels while The Last Blade 2 remains as a high point in the history of fighting games, but not as well known.
#4: Guilty Gear XX #Reload (ARC)
A game developed by Arc System Works, Guilty Gear XX #Reload is the first of two upgrades to the game Guilty Gear XX, which has been a popular title in Japan but has a niche fanbase in the US. A rather fast 2D weapons-based fighting game, not only does it have the most resolution out of any 2D fighting game, it has innovative and balanced gameplay, an excellent and interesting character cast, and a music track heavily based on rock music. These combinations make the inspiring execution of the Guilty Gear games an awe to watch.
#3: Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution (PS2)
The signature fighting game made by Sega, Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution is a nice upgrade to the already successful Virtua Fighter 4, which is easily the greatest that 3D fighting has to offer. The beautiful graphics and realistic effects pertain to style of the game. Every one of the characters can be learned and accustomed with the balance and learning curve the game has to offer, along with the speed and thinking required for battle. An appealing option inserted is the quest mode, where you take the role of a player who fights other AI-controlled players acting as to how fighting game competition is employed.
#2: Garou: Mark of the Wolves (ARC)
Known as Garou Densetsu in Japan and Fatal Fury everywhere else, Garou: Mark of the Wolves is the latest installment to the franchise, and takes place a decade after the previous game. Fatal Fury was SNK's first fighting game that would have not been made into a series if Street Fighter II was not so popular. It was the game that started the King of Fighters tournament which spawned the yearly games, so its roots start from here and continue to grow. Terry Bogard remains as the legendary wolf and passes his mark down to the new hero, Rock Howard in the game that occurs years after the concept of the King of Fighters, and the game that began SNK's fighting game career. This is a powerful figure in the entire series.
#1: Samurai Shodown II (ARC)
Back when Street Fighter II was all the craze, does anyone remember which game was the only competition for it? Samurai Shodown and its sequel, which have had six installments, remains as SNK’s standing point in their fighting games in the early 90s. SNK developed games like Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury to try and compete with Street Fighter II, but were unsuccessful until the release of the original Samurai Shodown which defined innovation by being the first 2D weapons-based fighting game to grace the arcades, with its sequel improving upon every factor. Being ahead of its time, with beautiful graphics, fluid animation, and a new, entertaining style in gameplay, Samurai Shodown II remains as the greatest fighting game advanced from a simple concept to this day.
These ten fighting games are not necessarily my favorites, nor are they decided by influence or popular choice, but these games are what I feel are the deepest and most enjoyable features that the genre has to offer. 2D and 3D fighting play completely different, but it is still amusing to see how much has changed over the time that the concept was born. Fighting games remain as my favorite genre because of variety and fun it supplies; along with the competition it brings to push people even further to play more.

I actually thought it was a very good list. MVC2 is a broken game (56 playable characters, yet everyone only uses 8 or so...)
your argument is rather invalid. just because no one plays these games, doesn't mean they they suck, or that the more popular titles deserve a better ranking(although I do remember lots of talk about samurai shodown 2 from back in the day) I feel like this list is quite valid sans vampire savior. I don't see anything revolutionary about that series.

If I had done that list I'd swap Vampire Savior out with Third Strike and maybe another game on there with Mortal Kombat II, and move around a few games (SSF2T deserves a higher spot on the list).
And I'm glad to see MvC2 and DOA didn't make the cut.
I loved the Vampire series. It's like what MvC would be without the steroids and horrible balance. Not to mention the very original characters and themes(for a fighting game). Glad to see MK or DOA didn't make the cut. Would probably move KOF98 higher up and add Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 in somehow(I enjoy it better than Garou actually)

Real Bout 2 is definatly a great and overlooked fighter. But many could argue the easy pre-set combos took some fun out of it.

That list sucked... I am usually never straight forward like that but I say what I beleive... Either the guy dosn't spend enough time with alot of fighters or he is just lettign his own personal opinion seep in too much. Though I will say the Vampire savior series did have quite a few original characters (not including morrigan or demitri), B.B. Hood, L. Raptor, and Donovan are very unique unto themselves... On that note, jsut got the PSP Darkstalkers. Now I understand why people hate the D-pad so much for fighters... it feels so unresponsive! I hope at least capcom does something about it for SFA3Max, but it sounds like it's fixed already.
geeze... every year when it's the end of a year or beginning of a new year everybody loves to make a "best/worst of XXXX"... but I'll dive in.
Since I don't like favoring one game over another entirely (even though everbody does it... hey! we are human!) I'll just list my top 10 faves, but in no order:
Project Justice
Tekken 5
Soul Calibur
KoF '98
Mortal Kombat 2
VF4: Evo (I don't play this much at all or even like it too much, but have heaps of respect for it)
Marvel vs Capcom (yes... not MvC2... I still like MvsC1 way more than MvsC2).
Waku Waku 7 (I like humor with my games)
SFII (any version)
SFA3
and there you go. I will say I favor Tekken 5 and Project Justice the most...

Good lord... I just took a drive out to "8 On The Break" today. Anyone familiar with it? This place is INSANE! It's an honest-to-goodness dedicated ARCADE, I mean the whole place is wall-to-wall games with a little food court stuck in the middle. All just barely an hour away from me in New Jersey!
Some Mortal Kombat players wanted to meet up there so I decided to show up. I was expecting something that resembled a mall arcade, but damn was I wrong. It's like a local club during its busiest hours, but with games instead of a dance floor, if that makes sense. I walk in and BAM, three feet from the door there's the first UMK3 machine I've seen in years (already I'm loving this place). I glance over to the right and there's MvC2 on a HUGE screen, with Tekken 5 and SoulCalibur 2 right next to it. I look around some more and I'm seeing a couple of Street Fighter 3's, CvS 2, something I've never heard of called "Spectral vs Generation," Metal Slug, at least two different Beatmania Machines, Point Blank, some japanese drum game (looked kinda like Taiko but it had 3 drums per player), Super SF2 Turbo, an extra MvC2, and a CRAPLOAD of other stuff I'm forgetting. Meanwhile I notice that like half the people there seem to be carrying joysticks around; I get to the other side of the place and I see that they've got a bunch of PS2's hooked up and a SoulCalibur III tournament is in progress!!! There is a THICK-ass crowd around the tourney, the brackets and winners are being announced over the PA and people have little mini-cams videotaping the thing!!! Meanwhile people with Nintendo DS's are walking around all over the place; I'm assuming there was like a Wi Hi hotspot or something in there too.
Anyways I was stunned; I didn't think anything like this existed outside of japan. And you could tell this was a thick crowd of real-deal GAMERS here.... never in my life have I encountered such a thick concentration of games or gamers like this. I'm still struck by just how CROWDED the place was. It's like some crazy bizarro world compared to the scene on Long Island; hard to believe it's just over an hour's drive away!!!!

I've never been, but I've heard great things about it. It's one of the few arcades on the East Coast that still carries anything other than DDR and raving games, and it's stocked to the brim with 2D fighters.
I need to take a roadtrip there someday.

How is that? IIRC, almost all of them played pretty uniquely besides the shotos and maybe a couple charge characters, due to its wacky-ness. It's battle and combo system was also pretty unique until it evolved into the Marve; vs. series, which kinda took it too over-the-top, which led to various glitches and terrible balance.
