Reminds me of the Maury Povich they showed yesterday when they had the studio guess if the people on stage were born men or women. I have to admit I was confused by a lot of them as was a lot of the audience. The transexuals looked better than almost all the real women they had on the stage. Oh well.
I am surprised they didn't make Poison into a playable character in the Street Fighter series like they did with so many other Final Fight characters. Could have been Capcom's answer to Bridget if nothing else.

ditto on bridget...
and as a response to Markman in the old thread: I knew about the JP/PAL versions of T5 witht he ghosted pro players, but no way I'm modding my system (I usually only mod it when the next generation of the system comes out). I think I'm just going to take my PS2 to my college every day now and just whip out T5 and wait for people to show up.

Thanks for the link markman....sounds like they are trying to make it truly 3D, like sidesteps aren't just for dodging and specific side attacks anymore.

I'm hoping all this will go towards an online version of the game for the 360

btw, I think everyone knows this but don't import GG:Isuka for the xbox. i torrented it-- meh, deleted.

Why would you want DOA4?
RelentlessRolento
11-27-2005, 09:26 PM
GL Apossom... really, DOA4 is the only game that at all interests me on the 360... and all the other DOAs were the only draw for me on the original Xbox... odd...
I'll probably pick up a 360 a year or two from now when Team Ninja has more stuff out... especially DOA:XBV2... now that will be a good game... only game I liked too much on the original Xbox (aside from Ninja Gaiden).
I'm sure markman knows this already from reading up on zaibatsu, but it seems likely that the Tekken announced for the PS3 will NOT be Tekken 6 (oddly, I am glad about this), but Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Really this is awsome :) The T5 engine with tagging is a dream come true...
wow.. very nice progress with VF5... I still have yet to be very attracted to this series, but damn, it is a very well made series. The VF.TV is a superb idea, and SEGA could lower the costs of their cabinets or give discounts to arcades if arcades include this since they get to advertise whatever they want to. I like the whole idea of commentary, as I can see fighting games becoming the next big thing in american/japanese sports-like TV. I hope but doubt this will be implimented in the US.

I wasn't attracted to the series much until VF4. They finally put some much needed style with all the substance that is there. Part of the reason I never played the Virtua Fighter series much was because the designs were so bland and generic (I did like Pai Chan though). It just never interested me. My first real taste of Virtua Fighter came via Fighters Megamix which I had a lot of fun with.

My Personal Fav was VF2. It may have just been a large square arena with a different background, but I had fun. However, I wasn't really good, and there wasn't a lot of Famitsu-style VF2 charts around when I had my Saturn.
I didn't feel VF3. It felt sluggish and hard to Control.

Aside from that, a lot of the game has been reworked upon making it more Tekken like... I guess that's good. We'll see how it comes together as a whole.

One of my favorite Saturn games! I imported it back in the day along with Rage Racer for the PS1. I was a happy, happy gamer for weeks after that order showed up at my door. =D
I think its funny that my Saturn collection contains more imports than US games. I imported every 2D fighter and Schmup I could find back in the day.

to waht GuilewasNK said about VF: I still think it's a bit too bland for me (I don't know why... maybe it needs a more fleshed out story), but it's alot less bland than it use to be. One other problem is that I can't find any character that fits the way I would like to play. Most of the Power/Speed characters feel odd to me, and the speed characters (Jacky/Brad for me) feel more natural, but don't play totally comfortable to me. As a side note, I use to train in a dojo with a group of guys on the art of Muai Tai... it's pretty cool, but I admit I suck at it.

I wish Samurai Shodown IV was in that package. I loved the Bust/Slash modes.
In regards to X-box pads, I have the SF Anniversary controller and I think it is better than the regular Xbox controller. It did take me a little while to get used to it. The only other one I have tried is a PS2 controller via a converter but then you lose headset capabilities.

I have been using it with CvS2 and SFAC mainly. I don't recall having much trouble with my Guile pad. I used to have a hell of a time pulling moves with the regular Xbox pad. I tend to use charge based characters though so I may not run into the same issues that you have.

Dude, just watch real porn. It won't cost you 50 bucks for a copy in fact you can get it in abundance for free just about anywhere on the net), you get full frontal nudity and won't be cockteased by strategically-placed hands and camera angles, and you know, the women actually exist =P
My problem with DOA is mostly the engine. It feels like the poor-man's Virtua Fighter. They took everything about that game and watered it down and made it into a counter-fest. And the aformentioned selling-point of virtual clevage does nothing to sway my opinion either.
Rumble Roses....I can't comment on it. I own the game but have yet to try it out. What attracted me to it the most was the fact that they used the engine from THQ's Smackdown! series, and I was always a fan of that. I've heard that the game was lacking in modes and hell, even a Tag Team option, but I'll make a final judgement on it when I play it for myself.

Been playing alittle DOAU and I'm having fun unlocking everything. The game is based on a "pick-up-and-play" basis. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. But I was watching G4 a couple weeks ago and saw a program praising DOAU for being the best 3D fighter, with no mention of VF, Tekken or Soul Calibur.
One question - What's story of DOA? I watched the intro to DOAU and was confused. Maybe I sould get my wife to just translate it.

So Raidou and Tengu are the same guy? I still don't know why Ayane killed Helena's mom, why Leon's lover died, hell I don't get anyones story. Still I'm gonna unlock everything.
2poor - Wasn't impressed with 2K3's graphics at all, and I'm a huge SNK fan. Still plays great, that's what matters. Altough I prefer the classic 3 on 3 Team battles instead of tag. Gato doesn't feel like MOTW's.

ayane didn't kill helena's mom, I'm pretty sure it was Bayman... and Raidu and Tengu are not the same guy... far from it... And Ayane is more like Kasumi's illigetimate sister... they guy who raped her is Ayanes dad, who appears as the final boss in DOA3.
Leon's story still makes no sense to me... I don't even kow why they made him replace Bayman in the original DoA2...
also, if you're at all interested in Ryu Hyabusa and Ayane's story a little more, pick up Ninja Gaiden, probably the best (or only good) game on the Xbox.

Too bad handheld fighters aren't too great. I have Bleach for the PSP and it's not really that deep of a fighter but it's fun. Darkstalkers was a joke for PSP. GGXX# R was good stuff though. Can't wait for SFZ3: DU. That should be good stuff.

I am playing Elite Force 1 right now (God, I love this game). I am in the Frag-Cafe clan. I just got a new computer last week though so now I can play Elite Force 2 as well. Now that I have a decent PC for gaming I might start selling more of my console games.
I do have the full size gif of the TNG guys but it is on my old computer at the moment. I've been too lacking in money to really afford getting any games.
The newest game I own has kept me pretty busy though. I got GTA:LCS and really enjoyed (and enjoying doing all the extra stuff now) it... so far my favorite GTA (SA just had too much damn stuff, and VC's islands I didn't like too muh). It also has the best soundtrack in the series.
I got GTA for the PSP due to the fact that the damn DS was getting too much of my time, and I like both systems alot. In a few days I'll be picking up Animal Crossing for the DS... gahh!
If anyone has a GGXX#R for PSP for trade drop me a PM or check my TL. I totally forgot about it, but don't know if I want ot get it since GG:J is comming out on new years day (or so it seems). Also, if anyone is looking for a Rival Schools strategy guide, I may be willing to get rid of mine.
in response to markman about SCIII... the greek chicks (Sophi and Cas) seem the most balanced out of everyone. I like play as Lizardman alot more though, since his style is more in-your-face than Cas and Sophi.
I didn't realize it, but in Japan, Urban Reign is selling pretty well... I'm just waiting for a price drop before I pick it up. I still want death by degress just for story purposes even though I heard it was horrible.
Alot of people seem to not really care about story for fighters, but it's part of the draw for me when playing a fighter... Tekken is my favorite story, even if it is a bit random (kangaroos, aliens, CEO bears, robot men, the devil, and boobs, all in the world of Tekken).

Besides fighters I've been playing Ninja Gaiden Black (best game for the X-Box.) and Dragon Quest VIII.

What's the most useless move in any fighting game? Taunts and joke moves don't count, even if they can connect, like in SF3. I'm talking about moves that developers put in that just have no place in the fighting engine, and are just for filler.
I'm gonna go with the ducking low kick in the mortal Kombat series. Even if it connects, your opponent recovers from the hit before you recover from the kick

I always thought Sagat's Tiger Knee was pretty useless. Might as well do the Tiger Uppercut or standing HK. The range was always very limited, it leaves you open if you miss, plus the the motion is kinda awkward. It just doesn't fit in well with his other moves.

In ST or any of the games before it, the tiger knee is usually used to cover ground when the enemy is dizzied after a far fireball...
If you watch some high level vids of O. Sagat used in ST tournies you'll see Sagat dizzy his opponent with a flurry of low tiger fireballs then he'll use the knee to close the gap, then combo of choice.

I'm gonna go with the ducking low kick in the mortal Kombat series. Even if it connects, your opponent recovers from the hit before you recover from the kick :lol:Actually I've been reading up on some high-level UMK3 strategy (yes there is such a thing, bite me :-P) and apparently those crouching low kicks can be quite useful in certain situations. For the most part they are useful for cutting off a rushdown but they have some other uses as well. Sonya in particular has great priority with it. I have yet to really incorporate them into my strategy, but once I finally do it should beef up my game quite a bit. I'm not sure about the other MK's though; Ultimate MK3 might be the only game in which they're useful.
The crouching high kick is almost completely useless, although I've seen some combo videos where it is stuck on as the final hit of a corner combo. Also there are some broken infinite combos in Mortal Kombat Trilogy where the MK1 characters can simply repeat the move and keep juggling someone in the corner. But in actual gameplay it has very little use... while it may snuff out a couple of attacks here and there, there's usually another normal move that would have done the job much better.
Most useless SPECIAL move in the 2-D Mortal Kombats was probably this weird drop-toehold thing that Scorpion had in MK2. It's basically like a sweep kick except it's slower, harder to perform, easier to block, and much easier to punish. It's like the "Dan" of special moves; you only try it because it'll make the other guy feel like an idiot if he actually gets hit by it.

The 3d MK games are fun to play, but I never actually play them competitvely. more like something to tide me over till the next good fighter comes out. http://www.pspupdates.qj.net/capcom_2Dfixes_2Dpsp_2Dpad_2D20051206012420902_2D0 00.jpg
it supposedly goes over the d-pad and makes it feel more like a good 2d fighter controller. Capcom test labs seem to have had postive results. So far the only way to get it is by preordering SFA3 Double Upper (Import), but hopefully Capcom will mirror this promotion in america. What's the NA release date for this anyway?

best way to learn high level play is play against high level players. it's one thing to watch videos and learn how to do shit like roll cancelling or corner infinites or kara-anything and so on, but it's another to learn the right opportunities to do these things, how they can be punished, the various alternatives, etc.
a lot of people dream of being some kind of sleeper champion, but reading forums, studying guides, playing practice mode all day, and beating a game on the hardest setting is all secondary to playing against good players.

Not to mention I want to pick up some weird random Euro games (that tank game where you shoot a huge bathing suit model, and Pink Pong  sad yes... but hey!).

Honestly I think most people who write in this forum know this.
yeah, many of us are frustrated because we don't have the time or have a scene around us.
moving on: What's the best way to play imports on my PS2 without having mod the system too much and/or straining the laser. I really am wanting to pick up Rumble Fish now (wow, I finally saw the animation and it's very impressive... really what most 2d fighters should be doing now). I heard swapmagic was bad for the laser so... yeah... Not to mention I want to pick up some weird random Euro games (that tank game where you shoot a huge bathing suit model, and Pink Pong sad yes... but hey!).
PS2 with no mod-- you have two choices-- swap magic or the "yanking out the tray" method. Swap magic really isn't that bad for the laser. you load up on disc, laser stops, pop in another game and the laser plays the game like normal. basically, the laser is on for an extra 3 seconds each time load a burn or import. If you have a slim PS2, all ya need are the discs, no flip top, if you are willing to open the system. I can hook ya up with a tutorial on how to do it without damaging the warranty sticker, if you want. it's really easy, even for an ignoramus like myself ;)
For Euro games, you might need a mod chip depending on the game-- some offer 60hz mode, which is basically NTSC, and others don't and will just come up black and white and off center. A mod chip will display them normally somehow.
Then there's the HDLoader...and i'm not too sure how that works, but people like it.
Hope that helps.

The only fighter I ever remember playing "competitively" was TMNT: Tournament Fighters for the SNES. That was for the Blockbuster Championships more the ten years ago. I think they had Clayfighter too, but I digress. The only thing that sucked was that they wouldn't let you change button configurations.

I'll answer that one for the Mortal Kombat side of things... anyone interested in the finer points of UMK3 should check here http://www-2.mortalkombatonline.com/content/forum/showmessage.cds?id=57489
Gave it a look through and didn't see this answered. The highest ranking I saw for UMK3 was Kano at #4, who is generally considered to be #1?

Gave it a look through and didn't see this answered. The highest ranking I saw for UMK3 was Kano at #4, who is generally considered to be #1?Kabal is #1, mainly due to his spin dash move (super fast, huge hit box, snuffs out the early frames of many moves, sets up an easy 8-hit combo). They toned down his combo damage between MK3 and UMK3, and they also crippled his ground saw move a bit, but it wasn't enough to lower his ranking at all. In original MK3, Sub Zero was at the same level as Kabal due to his Ice Clone move being pretty broken, but in UMK3 they changed the properties of that move (it won't come out if you're too close to the opponent) so Subby got dropped down a few notches.
I grabbed this rough tier list from EWA Shock at the DarkAddictz site:
Top:
Kabal
Nightwolf
Human Smoke
Robot Smoke
Kung Lao
Ermac
Kano
Jax
Mid:
Scorpion
Liu Kang
Reptile
Sindel
Classic Sub
Unmaksed Sub
Sonya
Kitana
Stryker
Jade
Sektor
Cyrax
Low:
Mileena
Sheeva
Shang Tsung

Robot Smoke was pretty Broken, too. I think I could do about 50% damage with an easy teleport uppercut combo.
but some newbies new to fighting really have a harder time understanding this. It's kinda like something you have to learn, but I get where you're going Rodimus.

Ah, a fine crop of games! I'm seriously low-level (haven't played any fighter seriously since Alpha 3, although I spent some time on MvC2), but if you want someone to beat the crap out of who would be willing to learn how to play most of those games better (my GGXX has really gone down the tubes, save with Ky), my handle is First Chair. I'm mostly on playing Halo 2, if not off somewhere else sleeping like a log. I pretty much have GGXX, SVC Chaos, and Anniversary Collection going at times.

I should fall into the "easy opponent" category but I won't mind because I'll just be glad to finally break some of these games in. I haven't even tried most of them online yet (just haven't got around to it). We should get a CAG lobby going in DOAU... I've been itching to try out the DOA lobby system because it sounds like the closest thing to a genuine arcade atmosphere this side of the online age. Allowing a rotating series of opponents to spectate and chat is just brilliant! It's awesome in Kaillera and probably even sweeter on a game that officially supports it.

BustaUppa - I'll go on now and play some DOA if you're ready.Ah, sorry, I wasn't around... but it was for a very good cause... on Friday night I somehow stumbled upon some Capcom vs SNK 2 competition at a local mall!!!! The arcade scene is dried up and dead on this part of Long Island, so needless to say I was stunned.
There was some promotion going on at Gillians... $10 for a movie stub from a nearby theatre, so I just planned on running in and getting some cheapass credit (they use this weird card system instead of tokens or quarters). No one there seemed to know about the promotion, which was a bummer... but before I left I noticed a frigging CROWD around the CvS 2 cabinet. Now I'm no expert at CvS 2, I pretty much use the same 5 guys (all of them on the Capcom side), but it had been YEARS since I had seen a legit crowd around a fighting game. No way I was gonna pass this up.
So after this one guy destroyed everyone for a while, I stepped in and gave it a shot. And oh baby, the instict kicked in and it was ON. Great, competitive match, and finally the crowd "oooohed" as this silent newcomer managed to take the reigning champ DOWN! Ahhh, what a rush. The guy promptly continued, and came back to beat me, in another close match. Some other people joined in and fought against him (as the crowd grew BIGGER... this was awesome). I rotated in every now and then for some reeeeeeally close fights but couldn't manage to beat him again. The guy had a really good streak going on now, but according to him I was the best competition he'd had all night (awesome :D). After a while I FINALLY managed to kill his streak with my Honda/Chun Li/Ken team in another sweet match. Heh heh, unfortunately it was late and the crowd had finally dissipated by then, so I was just left to fight against the computer. But man oh man... words can't explain how refreshing it was to get some legitimate ARCADE action going. It's like some kind of PRIMAL feeling, man!

hey guys... what's up with microsoft hating fighters for their 360??? it's pretty much backwards compatible with everything but any of the fighters... weird.
one thing I want to bring to note, and I am thuroughly impressed with is the game Ryu Ga Gotoku. Think of it as a sort of shenmue with a larger emphisise on fighting than doing remedial tasks. Ign has some good articles on it:
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/674/674424p1.html
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/668/668341p1.html
if I do get my hands on a good swap magic I may import this. Sounds pretty kick ass.
Also, yesterday my friend dropped by and he let me play Shoalin Monks for a bit. Sad to say the fighting is actually better and more enjoyable than the latest MK games. The vs. mode feels alot like all the good old MKs mixed with Smash Bros gameplay. I'll either buy it or borrow it off my friend, unless I pick up urban reign before then.

Nothing like Shenmue, it's 100 x more fun. And I loved Shenmue I & II. You should import it. While you won't really understand the specifics in the story, you can pretty much understand what's going on. And I'm sure someone will translate what is going on on gameFAQs or something.
Pretty easy to get into.

again, with the bad double posting... awsome BustaUppa. The best crowd I can get where I am at my campus is either for Naruto (bleh! kill the damn anime!) or SCIII... Tekken 5 is just built up with about 4 guys that are really good top players (including me... it's the truth... but... whatever... I'll shut up...) and a few decent guys... but that's it. The 2d competition down here is amazing, btu I can't hold up anything to these guys. Maybe I need to practice my 2d stuff more...? any tips?

Me and a friend enjoyed Monks also. It's a really fun co-op game. I like the over the top violence. We'd sit their and try to juggle someone in the air for as long as we could. I think are max combo was in the 70's or something.

hey, at least we're getting SFA3. It's my favorite 2d fighter anyway, even if it's alot les flashy than SvsC2.
I actually am wondering why SNK/Playmore hasn't started porting their games to the PSP... I think it would actually sell better than it has on console, due to Sony's hate of 2d on their PS2.

Don't worry about missing the fight, I check back Monday morning to see if anyone wants to play.Best thing about this "actual arcade" was that the CvS 2 machine was one of the cheapest (price-wise) games in the whole place. It's actually kind of sad when you think about it, but hey I was stoked that my leftover credit from a few months back was able to carry me through the entire night. And heck, there's still enough on my card to last another night too. All the new-fangled 3D driving/shooting/dance games charge top dollar. For the most part, the stupid credit system just makes you think you're getting a good deal when you're really not... but if your interest happens to be in 2D fighters, you make out like a bandit.
Next time I hope they turn on that Capcom top 100 cabinet... it was out of order on Friday night, but when it's running it's got some of the old SF2's on it.

... don't know if this is off topic or not but here goes:
seems the next final fight will be slightly faithful to the series. It's already been confermed (by me... yes... some good old video watching) that haggar and cody are in the game and possibly maki (where the hell is guy?). One of the big brothers (aka hugo clones) apear also complete with pink oufit and leapord print... who knows... poison may even be there too.
I think the whole story goes that cody's younger brother is now doing the street fighting in search for cody himself. Cody has supposedly retired from street fighting (probably due to law problems... hey, the guy's a prison breaker!). There's also a weird drug going around that make people go crazy (what's new?). As long as this dosn't turn out like Beatdown, I'm set to go (but then again, I still want to play Beatdown, no matter how bad it is).
Also, even if the game is horrible, if Rolento makes the transition (as well as hopefully sodom) then I'll put my money down.
as a personal note about the game again, it's kinda odd the turn the series has taken, but it still looks like it will be the crazy final fight/street frighter world. It's just more realistic and more likely to be very grim.

as a personal note about the game again, it's kinda odd the turn the series has taken, but it still looks like it will be the crazy final fight/street frighter world. It's just more realistic and more likely to be very grim.
have you ever used rolento in cvs2? hes pretty damn hard to use because he has absolutely no combos.

I have actually in cvs2, but remember, I am no top or good 2d fighter player. I do highly enjoy them, even when the competition is way out of my leage. Rolento actually has some sweet little combos, but they're damn short. It's more like you gotta just keep hopping like a crazy ass (ala Vega, except replace the charge moves with twitch moves) and poke/whack people when you hit the ground. I don't play like this, but I don't really give a damn.
I do need someone to train me though in becoming better at 2d fighters. It's kinda weird since I've had to work my way backwards, unlike most people who play fighters. Most top fighter players started off seriously with 2d fighters, wheras I started seriously with 3d fighters...
anyone spend the time with those crazy euro/jap PS2 games published by 303 games that are budget titles? They have a "fighter" where you play as girls dressed in bikinis that look like plastic, and beat the hell out of each other. (note: it's not that bikini battle game for PC...). Maybe I should be the worlds best player at that game...? *sarcasm* (but I do want the game... have no friggin idea why...)

I played Oane Chapara/Zombie Zone. it's pretty freaking bad. the enemies don't do anything. they're dumb slow zombies and you are a lightning fast chick in a bikini with a katana. you have to wait a good 10 seconds while thy huddle around and eventually lunge at you. you just take on wave after wave of zombies while the techno soundtrack thumps along. there are a few combos and your sword is upgradable, but i'd rather have a lobotomy than play through the first level again.. it's worth a download

also, i picked up the sf2 ken controller for the ps2 for $10 the other day. I'm still not used to it though, and my zangief game really sucks with it. the vs. series is a whole lot better to play with though, which is always a plus. and i've also tried some garou: mark of the wolves with it too. the special cancels come out at an improved rate now (was 45%, now 75%)

If I were to compare JoJo's to another game it would be Guilty Gear, but the combo system isn't as crazy. It has a feature called "Stand" were you summon out an inner evil to fight along side you. With the Stands you can proform modified and sometimes totally diffrent moves.
Check it out sometimes, but like the Naruto fighting games I think fans will enjoy it more than anyone.

I think cause it's the only ways they can justify a $29.99 price tag. SNK has to wait until the game is fairly old to sell it at a budget price. If you're in Japan you'll end up paying a good 600 yen ($50) for the games. But it has been delayed quite a bit, (Jan 10th I think.)
As for the making it a bundle, that's a good question. Maybe since SNK knows the fan base is so small here it won't make a diffrence if they put in the effort to make a bundle. Instead of SS4 I'd like to see SS2. Did you know SS2 did come out for PSX in Japan. I forgot the name but it was bundled with SS1. I saw it in Japan but it sold for like $50 preowned. Still maybe I should've picked it up.
I'm still waiting for some kind of Neo Geo Arcade Classics Collection. I'd buy it.

I know this is a page late but ...
@Apossum: Those dead pixels you got can be cured actually. There's a homebrew (or video... can't remember) that flashes colors on the screen and removes all ive/dead pixels. I can't remember what it's called but just google it.
The thing that bothers me with companuies who push out fighters is how they make 1 or 2 games in a series that's doing well or decent and then totally abandon a good idea. Really I just want sequals to Rival Schools, Power Stone, SFA, Waku Waku 7, as well as others. I guess alot more series dided off on the dreamcast than just the system itself...
hmm mkay... onother questionare since I use to do these:
1. What game has the best death cries (when a characer gets K.O.'d and yells)?
2. Worst death cries?
3. The best health bar design?
4. The best motion 2d fighter?
5. The worst motion 3d fighter?
6. The best flash effects (ie. when you hit a character the yellow "pow" or "bang" thingys that pop up to make the game more exciting)?
7. The best physics (this can mean anything... up to you)?
8. Cheapest character ever created?
9. Least developed character ever created?
10. Your opinion on instant kills (example: Guilty Gear)...
11. Your opinion on infinite stages (example: tekken 1-3), caged stages (example: bloody roar), and ring out/open stages (example: SC or VF)...
RelentlessRolento

1. What game has the best death cries (when a characer gets K.O.'d and yells)? I am mixed about this one... it's a toss up between MKII and SFII... both have some great screming and yelling.
2. Worst death cries? the soul calibur series... it's super annoying... you whack them so many times and no matter what they kep repeating their death cry over and over... and don't even get me started on stun attacks...
3. The best health bar design? Probably Tekken Tag Tournament... I don't know why, but I like it. It's super simplistic, plus the fact that if your characters jump too high they don't appear bihind the bar, but infront of it.
4. The best motion 2d fighter? Rumble Fish... hands down, even if I hevent played it yet.
5. The worst motion 3d fighter? i meant to say best, but oh well, I'll answer the question... hmm... maybe MK4?
6. The best flash effects (ie. when you hit a character the yellow "pow" or "bang" thingys that pop up to make the game more exciting)? The vs. series was a bit excessive on this, but not too bad. I still like how the tekken series makes it a unique "flash" for each character.
7. The best physics (this can mean anything... up to you)? err... in terms of non fighting physics, probably SCIII since the asses and boobs look realistic at times. As for fighting, um... Project justice... even if it's super unrealistic.
8. Cheapest character ever created? don't know, but I am sure it's a 2d character and is AI controled...
9. Least developed character ever created? Either Tira or or the entire cast of that bikini battle game...
10. Your opinion on instant kills (example: Guilty Gear)...
I like them... plus they look cool.
11. Your opinion on infinite stages (example: tekken 1-3), caged stages (example: bloody roar), and ring out/open stages (example: SC or VF)...
Infinite stages are nice, as you never really have to worry about anything other than the fight. Walled stages are a bit annoying if the stages are too small, but still nice. Ring out type of places actually balance gameplay a bit fo most games since you still have a chance even if you are losing horribly.

1. What game has the best death cries? KOF - Sometimes they say weird things like Shingo.
2. Worst death cries? Street Fighter II - Kill Guile it sounds like he's saying Rue Paul over and over.
3. The best health bar design? Guilty Gear XX - You see a miniture sprite of your character and what action they are doing.
4. The best motion 2d fighter? Street Fighter 3 - The only reason I don't say Rumble Fish is cause some of the animations look a little odd.
5. The worst motion 3d fighter? Critcom comes to mind, an old PSX and Saturn 3D fighter.
6. The best flash effects? I agree, the Vs. series was good
7. The best physics? I'd say VF4, maybe caue it's feels the most realistic.
8. Cheapest character ever created? Vermillion from Toshinden 2
9. Least developed character ever created? Shen Long from KOF 2K3. He looks cool but no intresting moves.
10. Your opinion on instant kills? I don't mind them as long their is an option to turn it off. Sometimes they look really cool.
11. Your opinion on infinite stages? Depending on the fighter I guess. It works for Tekken but I don't think it would work for games like VF4 or DOA were corners become a major part of fighting.
Looks like Samurai SHodown V for Xbox got pushed back to next year. I dont understand what is so hard for them to port on these. This and KOF 94 were supposed to be out this year for Box and they both got pushed back. All I want to do is play online!!!!

1. What game has the best death cries (when a characer gets K.O.'d and yells)? I like the Mortal Kombat series ones for some reason.
2. Worst death cries? I have to agree that Guile's Rupaul death cry is awful. In general the SSF2 game has strange sound samples IMO.
3. The best health bar design? I like the ones in Samurai Shodown IV and Last Blade 2.
4. The best motion 2d fighter? Guilty Gear X2 #Reload
5. The worst motion 3d fighter? War Gods
6. The best flash effects (ie. when you hit a character the yellow "pow" or "bang" thingys that pop up to make the game more exciting)? Project Justice.
7. The best physics (this can mean anything... up to you)? DOA Ultimate/DOA3 and the reasons are quite obvious :bouncy:
8. Cheapest character ever created? For playable characters I'd say any that can morph into other characters like Shang Tsung.
9. Least developed character ever created? The Karate Champ dude.
10. Your opinion on instant kills (example: Guilty Gear)... I don't mind them too much.
11. Your opinion on infinite stages (example: tekken 1-3), caged stages (example: bloody roar), and ring out/open stages (example: SC or VF) I don't care for ring out stages in general but I can deal with them. The other stages I like just fine.

7. The best physics (this can mean anything... up to you)?VF4
8. Cheapest character ever created? Gon in Tekken 3 (you can just spin the entire round and win)
9. Least developed character ever created? Ingrid. Bleh.
10. Your opinion on instant kills (example: Guilty Gear)... Good when balanced correctly
11. Your opinion on infinite stages (example: tekken 1-3), caged stages (example: bloody roar), and ring out/open stages (example: SC or VF)... I like ring out situations or simply finite stages, as long as they're not too small

4. The best motion 2d fighter?
garou: mark of the wolves i recently rediscovered this game and fell in love with it all over again.
5. The worst motion 3d fighter?
battle arena toshiden or fatal fury: wild ambition
6. The best flash effects (ie. when you hit a character the yellow "pow" or "bang" thingys that pop up to make the game more exciting)?

11. Your opinion on infinite stages (example: tekken 1-3), caged stages (example: bloody roar), and ring out/open stages (example: SC or VF)...

caged stages can get a little annoying if you're on the recieving end( kof:MI, i'm looking at you)

Looking at all the prices online, you won't find one for under $120 and that's before the $50 shipping..
But I'll tell you what, my company is going to be selling more of the stick, there's going to be a restock soon, I'm not sure when exactly though, but I'll let everyone know.

But we all know VF5 will be far superior gameplay-wise.
Alright, I have an extremely n00b question. How much difference is there between playing a fighting games with a pad vs. a good stick? Does using the stick make the game easier/more inntuitive? A big-ass answer would be awesome. :-)
EDIT: MarkMan: Believe me, if I had $100 to blow on a stick, I would be throwing money at you. It's just hard to justify that kind of cost for something Tht I will only really use for maybe a dozen games.

GREAT NEWS!
DoA4 stick is garbage compared to other Hori sticks...(which is still better than most)...
But the kicker is, it works with the PC... :)
I'll be on MAME a lot more... DoA4 isn't too fun... :(
good to know, I probably won't blow the cash on it (who the hell plays doa with a stick anyway? just seems like a wonky marketing ploy to make doa look hardcore)
so review copies of DoA4 are out? is it actually going to make 12/22?? color me surprised if it does. Please do tell...also, let me know what you don't like about it so far.

weird thing is that I was going to point out to Markman the possability of putting together an actual printed magazine focusing strongly on fighters... and he's already one step ahead of me! weird... and it was a thought I had in my head for about a month or so...
a small suggestion on the mag: I know this may hike up costs but possibly include a DVD/CD with videos on techniques or combo exabitions. It's a huge compliment to whatever is in print in the mag. Really it's not too hard, other than the fact of cost. (then again, you could have about 4 DVDs a year, or something...).
I am totally for a good fighting mag... sign me up (plus if help is needed... free help here!).

The actual magazine will launch in March and will be in newstands everywhere... it'll be in wide circulation... as far as DVD costs, we're not looking to pack in any DVDs as of yet... But I can't get into detail on what's going to be included... but be rest assured that you'll have some sort of visual fighting game and other game stuff in video form if you decide to subscribe to the magazine...
The magazine is going to have contributors from high level palyers, so if this magazine really takes off and ppl actually read it, expect your competition everywhere to get better in certain games... :)

1. What game has the best death cries (when a characer gets K.O.'d and yells)? I like the ones in Soul Calibur III... if you hit the enemy repeatedly after they are KO'd they reset the death scream so if you hit them with a fast multiple hitting attack it sounds funny...
2. Worst death cries? I honestly wasn't a fan of the Street Fighter ones... they got old fast...
3. The best health bar design? I'm a big fan of the Guilty Gear XX and above ones... very cool...
4. The best motion 2d fighter? Guilty Gear XX Slash, Fist of the North Star, and even though it's old I love the animation in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike...
5. The worst motion 3d fighter? Zero Divide...
6. The best flash effects (ie. when you hit a character the yellow "pow" or "bang" thingys that pop up to make the game more exciting)? Soul Calibur series...
7. The best physics (this can mean anything... up to you)? Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution...
8. Cheapest character ever created? ST Akuma, T5 Steve, T4 Jin, KOF 03 Duolon...
9. Least developed character ever created? Hrm.. No idea on this...
10. Your opinion on instant kills (example: Guilty Gear)... If you get hit by it, hell you deserve to die....
11. Your opinion on infinite stages (example: tekken 1-3), caged stages (example: bloody roar), and ring out/open stages (example: SC or VF) I love walls and I don't mind infinite stages... it all comes down to strategy and spacing... bayow.

Well, unless Markman feels like sending me a stick, I plan to buy the SF Aniversary stick and modding it with Happ parts pretty soon. Would if I could I'd buy a Hori, but (1) I don't like ball top joystick (2) they're way expensive (3) I'd have to find a good PS2 - Xbox converter probably.

Came across some pics of VF5, not sure if they're new or not but here ya go:

It looks nice, but everyone looks so shiny. Stop the moisturizing.
 I can't wait. That reminds me, I need to bring VF4 with me on my trip home so I can get some quality time with it.

Instant Kills in Guilty Gear are hard as hell to pull off on someone. Although at Evolution some Slayer player decided to pull one off on me while my poor Bridget was dizzy:cry: :headache:

I can always time Slayer's and Potemkin's instant kills very well. Potemkins can actually be used as a counter, so I wait till someone jumps in at me. And Slayer reads Haiku that makes no sense, according to my wife. Anji and Sol's are probably the hardest to pull off, they're very easy to see coming. But I think Ino has the coolest Instant Kill.
Any other game besides Guilty Gear that have instant kill moves?

The Bushido Blade series is the only other one I can think of. I haven't played it myself though.

Any other game besides Guilty Gear that have instant kill moves?Killer Instinct sort of had them, but your opponent's health had to be red. Also MK Deception had those location-based death traps... not sure if that counts though, since they were basically just ring-outs with a violent animation. The wretched BloodStorm arcade game had something similar, where you could knock someone off the stage into a spiked pit.
Only other game I can think of that has true "death moves" is the one, the only... Time Killers. I played a match on MAME one time where the round started, I took one step forward, pressed an attack button, and chopped the opponent's head off. That was the whole round! Ha ha, I loved how the post-match screen would show a headless version of the character portrait after that.

actually the whole thing with slayer reading Haiku makes sense, since slayer seems to be of high class and a "sophisticate!"...
... As soon as subscriptions are available, LMK Markman... I may even consider pushing an idea like this to a good friend of mine who actaully runs and owns a magazine in large circulation (Lo-Fi from Devils Due Publishing/Comics)... j/k, but I was thinking about it... you just beat me to it.
a small sugjestion on the mag... get some of your editors to head over to japan, so you can get some early arcade machine testing previews... I'z gots ta knoe wut iz ups wit da japani arcayd sceener!....?
plus, I hope your mag sells like beanie babie ticle me elmo pokemon dipped in sugar loaf. If sales are good (like I am implying), I hope you're right that the conpetition will get better... plus it'll give me an excuse to put time into working on being a good 2d player.
