I just got my DS today, picked up a few used games yesterday. The games load up fine, those being Lunar, Advance Wars, and Kirby Canvas.

In Kirby, the stylus is pretty much impossible to use, which makes the game impossible to play. The stylus is only recognized about half the time, and its only recognized in the spot I use it half of those times (i.e. I try to draw a line in the middle of the screen; either nothing happens, or it stuns an enemy on the other side of the screen... moreso, if its doing that, I can tap almost anywhere and it will register as a tap on the enemy). I just put on the Hori screen protector, which I thought might be the problem, but it works a lot better in Advance Wars. Advance Wars seems a bit touchy with how I double-tap and all that, but at least wherever I tap the stylus, it registers.

Could this be a defect with the copy of the Kirby game? Seems extremely odd, but I suppose possible. Any other potential causes?

Awfully depressing that I've had to deal with this and my extreme lack of ability in applying the screen covers to start off my DS experience. But at least Mario Kart is fun.

your touch screen might be damaged. Like it isn't detecting that it is being "touched"

That was a thought, but I don't see why it would be so horrible in one game, but fine in another if that were the case.

Fuck... it may very well be the touch screen. I tried it out in MK and similar issues as with Kirby. No clue why its working in Advance Wars, but 2 out of 3 is not good.

Have you tried recalibrating the TS?

There isn't a problem with the game, its the touch screen. Isn't there a mode on the DS where you can 'paint'? Try that and see if it picks up you're movement. Oh, its in the Ping Pals mode...or whatever its called.

I didn't realize you could do such a thing.

Ah, yeah, it's fucked up. I can't even tap the bottom-right box to calibrate it. So I guess this will be exchanged. Wonder if this is why it was the only remaining DS at that Target :P My first bad experience with Nintendo hardware. Crazy.

Edit: I'll be damned. It was the touch screen protector. I don't know if it is because of air bubbles or what, but it was applying pressure to the touch screen, which kept messing with my own tapping. Figured it out while using PictoChat, even though it would draw and erase where I wanted it, it kept trying to input dashes from the keyboard. Took off the screen protector and suddenly the DS is the most enjoyable thing I've ever owned.

Now to figure out why I'm incompetent with these damn screen protectors...

LOL. Who makes the protector? The Hori ones are awesome

It is Hori. I got the bottom one on fine, cause its stiffer. Just a few bubbles, but it works perfectly. That damn top protector is another story. Its already pinched from trying to press out the bubbles, so I'll deal with it. Gaming is not affected.
