I was in Circuit City on Black Friday as my sister wanted a laptop. (Scam- the store only got 8, even though the ad said a minimum of 15), but that's another story.

Since I was in the store, I tried to adjust a price of an item I purchased on Monday (Circuit City policy states they will beat anyone's price by 110%). Well, they refused any price matching on Black Friday, so I called corporate.

After a 20 minute wait, I got an Indian woman who barely spoke any english. When she spoke it made no sence, and her accent was so heavy it was hard to understand her at all (She had to spell out BEST BUY, beacuse it sounded like Best File to me)

She told me CC only pm's Best Buy, to which I told her I had the Best Buy ad; THATS WHO I WAS PRICEMATCHING. After 30 minutes I gave up, because her 'manager was busy too'. BTW They have never even heard of Thanksgiving in India; I know they celebrate Lord Krishna's Birthday.

I know corporations save money outsourcing, but it just pisses off customers. I wasted an hour dealing with them. When I call Washington Mutual I spend 5 mintes with an english speaking operator. Do CC customer rep make less that 1/20th of their American counterparts?

I was once offered a help desk position at a data and health insurance processing company, only to be told the next day that their entire operations were outsourced to India, the hiring manager didn't even know. They were completely blindsided. Needless to say, I didn't get the job.

I've had a relative and a friend of the family in the financial industry lose their jobs to outsourcing, both to India. One found another job within a month, the other was temping for 8 months before they found another full time job.

Some of my friends in tech support at a major company were almost outsourced, but they were warned beforehand and just barely transfered into other departments in time.

Now Bush wants to let Mexicans in legally to work, to take even more jobs away. What the hell is this shit?

My personal favorite is calling AMERICA online and getting somebody in fucking India who I can not understand at all. Outsourcing was pretty much the final nail in the coffin of customer service in the US. So now we can't even understand the people who are treating us like shit. Gee, thanks.

As always, you're a fucking moron.

He wasn't insulting the indian person you sausage slapping shmuck. He was simply stating that he couldn't understand her thick accent and that they don't celebrate Thanksgiving you Halo-fanboyish cock jockey.

Now, compare his post and mine, which one is actually making fun of someone, you simple minded twit?

I agree....I called Dell once to get my Dell DJ replaced. That was an experience I'd rather not re-live. I wouldn't mind so much if I felt the person on the other end actually even understood what I was talking about.

Yes, it is hard to understand Indian accents. I had quite a bit of trouble talking to the Dell coustomer support...until I started speaking Tamil which they understood. And yes, I am Indian.

You're a tard, outsourcing is bad. Sure its cheaper for companies but it takes away job opportunities for AMERICANS. And like the OP said, their accent makes it hard to understand them, he isn't being racist or anything, this is a FACT.

I don't like Bush, wasn't Kerry going to lower/stop outsourcing if he was voted?

It doesn't help that they pay these Indians, many of whom have degrees, jackshit.

Just to be fair, most people who work in call centers don't have degrees. Except maybe the managers with thier LA/Communications/Business degrees.

Hey I'm not bitchin about anything. I try to control as many things as possible as I can if I can help it. I went early to Best Buy and got me a lappy, cheapy desktop and most everything I wanted. Didn't have to go into CC and try to price match knowing very well that PMing BF sales is extremely YMMV. If I was a lazyassgamer I wouldn't call customer no service, because 11 times out of 10 they will not help you AND give you the run around. If I were put in the same situation that OP was in I would go get the district managers contacts and bitch to him/her. I am not disagreeing that some outsourced CS may suck like the Dolphins in a playoff game, but in theory consumer sentiment will backlash and the smart business will revert back to english speaking CSRs (hell they might use the Canadians, isn't 1 USD= ~20 Canadian dollars?)

There's not much a president can do about it. It's called free enterprise for a reason.

On that point I've always noticed you get the worst customer service for repairs, problems, returns while the people who actually assist you when you want to buy something know how to speak and are somewhat informed about their product.

I wonder how long it will take these corporations to realize outsourcing their call centers is costing them more in the longrun? Yeah, financially it looks good on paper, an India employee makes a whole hell of a lot less than a US employee, but here's an experience I had just the other week --

I was on the phone with Dell customer support for SEVEN hours over two days just trying to clear up a 116.89 price discrepency. It was an obvious glaring error, and not one of the 15-25 Indians/Mexicans were able to help.

So I was no further ahead. Frustrated I sent off a brash email to any and all Dell support addresses I could find, including a couple of alleged Michael Dell addresses stating my problem and my thoughts of the deplorable customer service. I received a canned response that my email would be answered in 6-12 hours. Two full days went by and I finally got a phonecall from someone from Dell that spoke English as a first language (they were Canadian -- they must make the outsourced Canadian Call Center smooth over all the irate customers who dealt with the other countries). They gave me the whole song and dance that they're trying to improve and offered to credit me the 116 dollars. Whoop-de-doo. It was too late, since I could get no resolution I refused shipment of the order, and did a charge back through my credit card.

Anyways, my point is, I used to be a happy Dell customer, and told many family and friends to buy from Dell. My Mother is in charge of purchasing technology for a region of detention centers, and went with Dell based off my reccomendation. This word of mouth resulted in tens of thousands of dollars in sales for Dell. Now based on my latest experience, I wouldn't recommend Dell to anyone, and my Mother is already prepared to go through another vendor.

Maybe this offshoring is catching up to Dell. The bad word of mouth they are receiving from customers is negating everything positive they built up in the late 90's / early 00's. Just recently Dell announced that they will miss revenue targets for a second straight quarter. These companies need to realize the call centers may cost more to keep them in the US, but they will be handle calls more effeciently without a language barrier, and have returning customers as a result.

There's not much a president can do about it. It's called free enterprise for a reason.
A president could sign a bill into law that gives companies that don't outsource tax breaks or something like that.
Of course, a bill like that would have to make it though the House and Senate, which could be difficult.

Back on topic, one of my DVDs from from a buy 2 get 1 free DDD sale never made it to me so I called them up, and was happy that they use people who speak English as their first language. Another reasons to give props to DDD. :applause:
Plus, they didn't give me any problems. My DVD shipped out a few days later and I should be getting it any time now. :D
