Issues with the 360 standing up vertically

Anybody else having a problem playing a game when the xbox is vertical???? I had Madden conk out on me like 5 times in a row yesterday when vertical...I got the "This disc may be intended for another region, or may be dirty"...That isn't verbatim, but it was something of that sort...I then put the 360 horizontally and didn't have a problem for the rest of the night, just wanted to see if anyone else had the same problem.

I've had it both horizontal and vertical and have still yet to have a problem with it.

i have it vertical, no problemos yet. I think it might be better that way because the system has vents on both sides : /

its been vertical since i had it and no problems. maybe you have a defective one.

mines is on the vertical position and have no problems with scratching of the discs or overheating

So that way, theres only 1 vent open? Since its vertical 1 would be faceing down and one up, dont see how thats better, not that I think its worst.

I'm beginning to wonder if sitting it vertically just shows defects more quickly. Because some people sitting it vertically have no probs while others have turned it vertically and had it break right away. Very odd.

Best of luck to you though. Heard the Xbox support (if you end up sending it in) is supposed to be pretty good.

? there's vents on the side of the 360 if you look, 2 on the top 2 on the bottom, you place it horizontally the bottom 2 vents will have a small gap between the system and the floor, have it vertical, all 4 vents are free to loose heat. i don't quite get what you are saying with the 1 vent facing down?

There's no vent on the bottom (referring to the 360 when it stands vertically).

this reminds me of the PS2 problem with it standing vertically, there use to be an article about not putting your system sideways because it would work the cd rom harder thus defecting it sooner, but i dont have the link. Ill try to find it for you guys/girls.

this is true about working the disc harder. I rented NFSMW from blockbuster and at the time my 360 was vertical and put a huge circular scratch in the disc. also as with coding and disc being dirty this may be a problem with ea games. I had nba live and it did this

have had mine vertical since I got it, no problems. my PDZ does not have any circular scratches, or any scratches for that manner on it.

Sounds like there are a lot of defects with the 360. I hope MS has fast customer support. I'm not going to stand for that bullshit when I get mine.

It's really weird that you say this...Because I noticed last night that I only get this error when playing Madden...I'm thinking of using my game doctor on it to resurface it...Or maybe trying to swap it at BB or CC...I bought it off of ebay, though...Thanks for the input guys

Im just keeping it horizontal for now since that's really the only way I can keep it. Plus i'm scared to have it vertically, not only because of the scratched disk stories but because im afraid it'll become susceptible to knocking over.

Just an update...I took my madden 06 back to BB, got a replacement, and haven't had a problem since...So it was just the disc that was defective
