View Full Version : The achievements for Tiger Woods 06 are ridiculous

So, like many other people, I'm absolutely loving the achievement system that has been incorporated on the 360. I picked up a used copy of Tiger Woods yesterday and my friend and I booted it up last night and played around with it. Overall, I think it's a pretty good golf game and I'm not overly concerned about the features that they took out when compared to the Xbox version.
What really disappointed me though was the list of achievements in the game. The vast majority of them were online achievements which is okay I guess. The problem with them is that they are so completely ridiculous and out of reach that they are not worth pursuing.
This one is my favorite: Play 1000 online matches.
They might as well have called that one the "Lifetime Achievement Award".

I've found some to be ridiculous as well. PDZero has a similar one... play 1000 online deathmatches as well as 1000 online dark ops games.... that is 2000 online rounds of perfect dark. i've also read they must be ranked matches! That is truly a lifetime acheivement award.

Well if either of those games were mega hits I would say that it's reasonable. Yer telling me you haven't played over 1000 Halo 2 matchmade / custom games? Hell, I've played over a 1000 lan games of Halo 1. Most people are still playing Halo 2 a YEAR after it came out. Around 80,000 to 100,000 people every night. You think you'll be playing Tiger Woods for over a year? Or even PDZ? Hell no. You need GOOD games to get that kinda following.

I played Diablo 2 for about 5 years near daily and I don't think I entered 1000 games... well... maybe. But that was playing hours on end most days. I played a lot of halflife 1 over the years, but I even question if that hit 1000 games total counting every form of gameplay.

You probably wouldn't get that achievement in Tiger simply because they put out yearly updates to the game.. now if it was something like PD:Z or something that doesn't get a yearly update, yeah, I could see someone playing 1000 matches in there. Eventually, over time, people will get that award in PD:Z.
That's not the only awards I think are tough to get. Project Gotham 3 has an achievement for all getting all Platinum medals. I think I'm pretty good at the game (almost finished and have all golds so far) but have no idea how one would get ALL Platinums. That'd probably be the best PGR player in the world right there. Just the thought of spending HOURS on certain tracks trying to get the perfect skid around each corner gives me shivers.

How about the Smash TV achievement that requires you to finish the game WITHOUT CONTINUING?!?! :bs:

I don't really mind that one though. That is an achievement only the best Smash TV players will achieve.

How do you max out the score in tetris? How do you beat pacman? How do you roll the levels on Joust or Duck Hunt?
Some people just have too much fuckin time...

I have 1500 matches in doa:ultimate for a year of play and a lot of time invested in it...those matches take about a minute a piece. I've seen people with 15,000 matches in that game. ridiculous...

that's why gamerscore doesn't matter, it isn't fair for all games. Like PGR3 also, getting those achiement scores is much more hard than kameo. It's fair in theory but not in practice since every game is weighted evenly when you reallly cant if you were to put it a time/skill ratio type setting. anyway don't worry bout it too much,
I'm sure we all love when that achivement unlocked bubble pops up tho =)

It's clear that I'm 20 points better at gaming than you are Zoglog. There's no use fighting it.
My favorite achievements so far have been the Tony Hawk high score achievements. For each of these achievements you have to post a high score in each of the different levels. This is a simple as performing one trick and hitting "End Run".
Tomorrow I think I'll try to tackle the "Play (insert level) Online" achievements. Wish me luck.

1000 games doesn't seem like TOO much. You could probably play 10 games of Halo in an hour (maybe?). That would only take 100 days of playing for only an hour. I'm sure most of us have clocked that in one game or another.

Something tells me it's going to take a little longer than 6 minutes to play a round of multiplayer golf in Tiger Woods though.

Yeah, I was thinking more for PDZ but I haven't played that either so I can only guess.

I just hit 100 games in PD0 killcount last night. I'm guessing that's after somewhere between 15 and 20 hours of play (plus finding games, getting dropped from games, etc.), so figure 150-200 hours for 1,000. It is a little hard to tell though because I'm guessing the time split between killcount and other modes.

As the resident CAG Achievement king, I felt like I should chime in here.
Yes, some of the achievements are ridiculous. You get 80 more points for winning a game in Madden, on any difficulty, with any sliders, than you do surviving the first minute of Geometry Wars without firing off a shot. Crazy. I guess they figure that since Madden costs you $55 more, they should give you more points. I just hope that sports game developers actually put some effort into the achievements system. I know that NBA 2K6 has only like, 5 achievements, worth 200 points each, with some of them being as plain as "Score 140 points" or "Grab 20 rebounds with one player". I wanna see things like, in NCAA Football 07, "Stay in the AP Top 5 for 2 consecutive years" or something like that, not something as basic as "Pass for 350 yards".

Ah, yes, but your reputation (I am assuming that is what "Rep" means...maybe not) is two stars lower than his. ;)
Just curious...do you have to be online to get these achievement points? I am assuming so since you all have them on your little XBL cards.

Nope, you don't need to be online. All you need is a Profile, which everyone can have, if you have a Memory Card or HDD, that is.

I actually haven't played any online multiplayer yet, so my rep is still right where it started. I'm going to get to play some multiplayer this weekend though.
Those are for people like this.

Where abouts can the list of achievments be foung in Tiger Woods? I've had a bit of a look but can't find it.
As for the Geometry Wars low scoring achievents, it's because it's a live arcade game. Basically all retail games have 1,000 points that go with them but the live arcade games have a lower total score. I can't remember if it's 100 or 200 but it's a set amount that's far lower than for a full retail game.

Yeah, Live games are pretty much 200 and retail game are 900-1000 from my experience.

Really? EA usually gives up gamerpoints more leniently than other games. Eg Madden... 100 points with x sacks or x rushing in agame

I like the fact that some achievements are really hard to get. For instance, in Quake 4 they give you an achievement for making the #1 spot in the multiplayer leaderboards, and another one for being in the top 10. Seriously, how many people will actually reach anywhere close to the 20's, let alone the #1 spot. Yet if you are good enough to reach that high on the leaderboards, you deserve something, and that's where that achievement comes in. It's for the best of the best only. I do like that idea. The gamerscore is solely for bragging rights ya know.

I got like 600-700 points just for beating Gun one time and beating most of the side missions

The gamerscore is solely for bragging rights ya know.I like the idea of something being for the hardcore but something like those Quake 4 ones are completely unrealistic. It's my view that the achievments should be achievable by everyone although some should obviously be difficult. There are many problems with giving achievments for reaching rank 1. Firstly, there are usually some cheaters who make it to the top of the rankings and an achievment like this only encourages such underhand tactics. Also you might be the best player in the world but if you have a job/family etc, then you won't have the time to play the number of games that are usually needed to reach anywhere near the top of a leaderboard.
The same goes for the achievments that are being given for playing 1,000 matches online or whatever crazy number they are asking for. If you're unemployed with little else to do then it's fair enough but for the general population it's just crazy.
A more realistic achievment instead would be something like winning 80% of ranked games out of any rolling 100. This means that the player has to be seriously good and only the true hardcore would manage it but it's not time dependant and it's achievable by everyone. Obviously people could still pick on the lower ranks to try and achieve it but there's always a high chance of slipping up.
I found the Tiger Woods achievments too. I should really have explored the dash a bit harder, I got to the arcade, downloaded Geometry Wars and that ended my exploration!

Would 1000 matches of TW2006 include 18 holes of golf? because in that case it is truly impossible
