Glancing at Gamerankings, Gamepro gave Wild World a 3.5 out of 5 (70%, eh I don;t like Gamepro) and Nintendo Powr gave it a 9.5 out of 10 (surprise, surprise).
The reviews that I usually trust, however, come from EGM...but they've given it a 7.83 out of 10. Anyone have the actual magazine and know what they said? I had higher hopes than this (though I'm still getting the game).

Just read the Gamepro review. Here's the ending line:
"Animal Crossing: Wild World is a quaint game - almost too quaint. For the gamer who likes to live double or triple lives, or for an original Animal Crossing fan, this is a game to pick up. However, for the gamer that demands fast-paced action, an interesting story line, and an imperative need for an ending, this may not be the best game to play."
So basically, the reviewer didn't like it because it's Animal Crossing.

Seems so. I, for one, loved Animal Crossing. It's nice to have a game that isn't difficult at all. You can't get 'stuck', and there's endless decorating possibilities. By reading that last line, I would guess that it's a great game for those of us who enojuy Animal Crossing. Obviously, if you aren't an AC fan, you won't like it.
I haven't gotten my new Gamepro yet.
Got Gameinformer reveiw: 8.75 w/ a second opinion 8.25
"What's great about this offering is that the few aggravating control issues in the GC title are largely taken care of in Wild World. The stylus makes selling items (now in bulk!), designing clothes, and writing letters a snap. In fact, the entire game can be played with the stylus alone, and a full control scheme allows the same fuctionality with just the face buttons."
"Animal Crossing can be broing in fact, if your'e a particular breed of twitch gamer, it's going to be really boring. For everybody else, you'd be hard pressed to beat the charm, humor, and style of these cutesy characters lving out their petty but surprsing genuine-feeling lives."
Sorry for any spelling mistakes. :)
I never got to play the GCN version, but have been meaning to get it... and there's no reason to get the GCN version if this one is coming out shortly.

EGM basically said theres just really not that much new about the game, not a whole lot was added. The online part wasnt all that exciting either and they had some problems getting connected.
Definitely wont stop me from buying it on the 5th, this game will once again comsume me im sure.

I really hope the Wi-Fi isn't disappointing in this game, as thats really the only reason I would get it. I bought but have yet to play AC on the GC, so if this will just be a portable version of the same game, no real reasonf or me to get it. If, on the other hand, we can interact with each other's villages through Wi-Fi, now that would make me buy it.

i think it'll be fun because of the CAG community, and I like the idea of a game with no real objective - it seems like this game is endless as long as there are people to interact with.

That's what I have seen so far from the details. To me it seems like it is just the same thing as the GC version with a few new things and no NES games. Plus I hate how the DS version online seems to be planned out. There should be a common place where all AC fans in a certain area can go.

Dude, it's not an MMO. Anyway, there is a place that all AC fans can meet, it's called my town. I work from home so I plan on leaving my DS logged into WFC all day long. Come any time you want!

I also have it; I'm reviewing it for Yahoo. I loved me some GC Animal Crossing. It's true this one doesn't have a whole lot new, but I'm digging it so far. Haven't visited other towns, but looking forward to it and have another journalist's friend code to take a little trip. Won't go into too much detail on the game, as I've only played a few hours and I'm saving opinions for the review, but if you liked the original, you'll be all about a portable, online version.

In an IGN video there was a option to download letters. What is that for?

Did the option specifically say "Download letters" or just "Download?"
Also can you describe where they were at in the video.
The closest I'm seeing is the message in a bottle but that only effects things in DS to DS mode.

In the house, at the phone, there's a download option, in there is something called "letters" and "bulletinboard messages" In the video they don't go any father than that, but just wondered what it was there for. :)

Those of you who have the game, or those who know a lot of the details: Is it possible for more than one person to play using one copy of the game? My wife is fairly indifferent towards video games, but she took to the GCN Animal Crossing like Robert Downey to crack. She was hooked for months. Buying another DS and/or copy of the game would be a waste of money because AC is the only game she would play. Is it possible for her and I both to have characters on the same cart? I know we wouldn't be able to interact directly, but if we could decorate a house together, send notes, etc. that'd be fine.

Yes, up to four people can share the same house (no house of your own this time around -- there are four beds upstairs in one house) on the same cartridge

I know that might be a drawback for some, but for us that's good news. We often wished we could live in the same house...More like real life.

I actually kinda dislike these story-form reviews. I didn't read much of the 1up one, but the GameSpot one was the same.. and it leaves me with more questions that could have been easily answered. From the GS review, it doesn't look like you can have four people in the house at the same time, seeing as how whenever one of the editors arrived, his roommates were "asleep", whatever that means. And are you locked into the same house with the same three other people? What happens if you're playing with three people and have a house, and then connect with three other people? New house from scratch? I'm gonna have to wait till some more reviews pop up the next few days before I see if this will be worth it.
Unless of course anyone here can clear these questions up.

From what I have read, up to 4 characters can exist on one AC cartridge, but they each share the same house this time. If you played he GC version, each character (up to 4) had their own house but only one character at a time could play.
Since more than one character can't play at the same time on one DS, the others are "sleeping" when one of the characters is playing.
When you visit another town, you are simply visiting. You don't live there at all. You can interact with that character and their town, but you don't stay there permanently.

Well I got it early this morning but didnt get a chance to play it till just now. Here is some random stuff as I was starting it that I wrote down in word till I got ready to post. Sorry if its a bit out of sorts but IMO I got sucked in fast and so far I am liking it very much.
Ok well first I am loving all these awesome DS games. I beat Castlevania on Fri and loved it. I got Mario and Luigi:PT this week too and its awesome.
Back on topic its nice to use the touch screen more than a very little bit like with these other games.
Game has very good graphics. IMO on par with AC GC. Good sound and I am happy with BREVITY's little town of Ville.
Y is the map, X is menu or you can tap the up arrow. Once in map your character screen goes up top and the touch screen becomes the menu screen.
Sorry if this is in coherent but I am playing for the first time atm and trying to think of stuff to mention as well.
Well I don’t think they have turned the wifi network on yet.
You cant type swear words. There goes f@ck s4!t dam town.
Surprised you seem to be able to control the whole game with the touch screen. Its loads of fun. I love the time thing: I mean how its like all other AC’s in that it keeps up with the time. I never played more than 3 or 4 hours of AC GC due to other awesome games out at that time.
I so wish you could get games in this version like you could in the GC version.
Well I am going to stop and play some more for now. I will write again later.
Adding to this: My little dude has parkinson’s or something; he cant keep his dam head still.
Also there is a download thing in your house I hope its so we can get content later. I wish you could play your MP3s in this game. That would make your little radio in your house so rock.

So by the time they get that in, they might have AC. So even if its not till next week, at least its only one trip out there :P And hooray for $200 in GR credit ;)
DS game Im buying for the year...have WAY too many as-is.
Haha, I think you cheated making that statement... the EB list of upcoming games shows only Guilty Gear released between now and the end of the December

Picked mine up at BB today. Never played the first game, but after reading all about this one I decided to try this one out, seems like the kind of game I'd enjoy. For those familiar with AC, does it take a while to get used to the game? I finished the jobs that Tom Nook has you do right off the bat, and now I'm kinda just wandering around going fishing and picking peaches off of trees to sell for bells.

This guy never fails to amuse me. He buys/rents everything, yet most of his posts are complaining about stuff -- Mario/Luigi 2, GamesQuest Direct, now the first Animal Crossing.
Slidey, ol' boy, there are always going to be games that others like or even love that you're not going to dig. Hell, I personally won't touch Call of Duty 2 because it's another damn WWII FPS, no matter how many 9+ scores it gets. Just because a game gets a good score doesn't mean you should personally play it -- especially if you hate the genre or predecessor.
If you got credit burning a hole in your pocket (as you've posted about before), why not use it to buy gifts for friends? I've hooked up a lot of people when there was nothing I wanted -- or even when there was. Or you could buy a console and donate it to Toys for Tots. I doubt you're old enough to do taxes, but it's even a write-off.

Ever since I found out recently that the NES games are out, I have lost almost all interest in this game. The NES games in the GCN version served as the ultimate incentive to play a little bit every day, but I found everything else to be a little repetitive.
And I'm into emulation, so its not like this was the only way I could play said NES games, but still, it was my motivation throughout.
I'm going to spend this money on Kirby: Canvas Curse and Mario and Luigi 2...just seem like better bets for someone who milked the GCN version for a long time.

Got my guide for half off when I bought the game. The person working in media took forever to track down a copy of the game (it was still in a box in the back) so he offered me the guide for half off since I waited for so long. I couldn't turn down the offer, especially since I was using a $10 off coupon at BB. Getting the game + guide for $35.05 after tax isn't a bad deal if you ask me.

Just had daroga and jfunkdpg in my town but got a message that the connection was lagging and then the game reset. That sucks.
EDIT: I think we need an official AC thread (similar to the MK ass kicking thread) to handle invites, trades, etc.
Hopefully the disconnects won't keep happening. One word of advice, save before you visit another town.

Snagged a copy this afternoon from GameStop. They had a stack of at least 4 or 5 "non-preorder" copies. Enjoying it so far. Some observations:
- I love the surround sound! If you haven't enabled this via the telephone upstairs in your house, make sure you do so. This game sounds better than the GCN version (and that's saying something). Now I'm really be itching to get my K.K. Slider tunes.
- The intro inside Kapp'n's cab is very atmospheric and IMO a better opening than the GCN train device.
- I like how you can switch between stylus and standard controls without having to change settings.
- Not very many people in my town. Only three other folks so far. How many do you guys have?
- Text entry with the stylus is SO fast compared to the GCN method. Letters are not nearly the pain they used to be.
- Graphics very good, though it's taking me a while to get used to the roly-poly landscape.
- LOVE all of the museum additions. I guess the cafe is where K.K. will play. Briefly checked out the constellation designer. So neat! And the galleries seem much bigger. More to collect!
Can't wait for my Nintendo USB wi-fi dongle to arrive. As soon as it does, you're all welcome to visit Fair Oak!

I think it's always three neighbors at start. In two or three days, two or three more will move in.
The log-style landscape scrolling is weird, to be sure. However, remember that AC on GameCube had the Zelda-style separate screens scrolling that was pretty annoying. This is much preferred.
When I get some time today, I get to check out my bigger house and Nook's new store!

The scrolling screen does make fishing a little harder. Used to be you could go two screens and the fish would "refresh." Now you just have to walk around and find them. Like real life. Boooooo... ;)
Looked around the museum again today. Man is it huge. I hit that second fossil room and was like, "Oh...my...god." It'll take forever to find all this stuff.
Was able to get a bug net and fishing rod. No bugs in winter except the mole cricket and I have no shovel. Hehe. I love the new way bugs and fish are handled. The neat little info file and better pictures are extra incentive to collect them all.

The guide for Animal Crossing is not like the guides for other games. Since the game is not linear, there are few spoilers that are going to ruin your enjoyment. While it does tell you the holidays and what happens during special events and such, it really functions more like a catalog than anything else. If anything, it makes you want to play more because you see that one piece you're missing. You can see all the furniture collections, clothing, etc. that is available, decide what you like and focus on getting it (though it's not going to be any easier than if you didn't have the guide). It also contains patterns you can use at Abel & Mabel's, a list of the songs you can get from Totakeke, bios on all of the townsfolk, etc. It's kind of like a TV Guide. It tells you everything there is to do so you can schedule and pursue what interests you....unless you feel like having a guide ruins the surprise of turning on the TV to see what's on. ;)

I found plenty at WalMart, as you guys suggested. It's neat, but some of the item pictures are REALLY tiny. I like how it has some neat Nintendo patterns in there. That was something missing from the GCN guide.
Does it seem to anyone else that they've really cut down on the holidays? I know there was a conscious move to keep it from being too centered on "North American holidays" (I guess that means Thanksgiving), but did they have to excise Hannukah/Christmas/Kwanzaa altogether? As it is, the only December event is the New Year's countdown. I miss Jingle. :(

I'll pass on that, thanks.
Someone doesn't like simple facts much, it seems. Since they redesigned the magazine, it became hard for a game to reach a ten out of ten, with only Resident Evil 4 being the most recent game to get a perfect score. Back before they redesigned the magazine, games got perfect ratings often. Super Monkey Ball, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Pikmin and Rogue Squadron II all got perfect scores, which I would call absurd. However, I would hardly call them biased anymore, outside of the fact that they are clearly Nintendo fans. No longer do they whore out reviews like they used to. I mean, look at Mario Kart DS - arguably the best DS game, and they only gave it a 9.0. They are being very strict about what gets great ratings lately.
And I hope you don't say something like "that doesn't belong here", since this is, after all, the review topic of Animal Crossing: Wild World.
