What is everyone's opinion of this game?

The reviews are around 8.0 on average which is kind of close to my lower limit on buying games. I tend to play it safe when buying games and only get ones that are geniunely loved by all and are ones I think I'll like. I wonder when Winning Eleven DS will come out and if it will be a better soccer game.

It's also at EB for $19.99 and if you buy another EA game you get a $15 gift certificate.

then buy that shit!

it's got to be pretty decent, since i've only heard positive impressions of it

also i have fifa 06 for the gba and it's REALLY good, and i'd have to imagine that they put way more money and resources into the ds version

is there definitely a winning eleven game coming out for the ds? it might be the game that makes me buy that system, but i hope it isn't as bad as winning eleven for gba...

Look at release dates on IGN. It doesn't have a release date or much information but Winning Eleven is on the list of upcoming games.

The only problem with the EB deal is I can't find a 2nd game that I really want.

Just wanted to ressurrect this as EA sent out $15 email coupons today, and FIFA 06 can be had for $4.99 a/c, which I will be taking... if I can stomach $6 shipping.

Just got that 15 dollar gift code too.

I can't believe shipping is so much. I don't know of any carriers that would charge EA that much to ship a product. I think it's just a clever way to get people to buy from them. Show them low prices on their site than murder with high shipping costs. That should be illegal because everyone knows shipping something that small doesn't cost them $6.

I bought FIFA06 DS when it first came out. I really enjoy it. I've really disliked the latest console FIFAs... I enjoy the more arcadey FIFAs of the late 90s where they didn't worry about passing meters or the ball coming off of your feet during a sprint. This game plays a lot like FIFA 99 - my favorite version of the game. The 2nd screen is really cool too ... it shows you an overhead radar, which is really helpful. You can also call strategy via touching the on-screen buttons. You can also use it to move the camera around during replays.

The only downfall to the game is that the default difficulty setting is way too easy. Also the AI seems really succeptable to the through ball. Shooting to a specific corner of the net is also a little difficult w/ the d-pad (it just takes some getting used to).

For FIFA fans, the game is absolutely worth $20. For soccer fans it's definitely worth the $5 off of the EA website (w/ the coupon). The only reason to not buy the game is to wait for next year's version which may have wifi (although EA has yet to say whether or not they will support the Nintendo WFC).

Well another reason to wait is Winning Eleven is coming next year and it usually is much better than Fifa.

BTW, it's $11 with shipping (maybe $12 with tax). Still a good deal but I can't believe shipping costs more than the game.

anyone know of any free shipping coupons?

Can't combine coupon codes at their site anymore (the great EA Store coupon fiasco of late 2003 was awesome, though).

Anyway, the way I think of it for any online order is that shipping and/or tax is part of the price for any item(s) bought online. If they offered an Xbox 360 for $1 with $200 shipping, would you balk? No.

It's about $11 total and I could care less if the game was free and shipping was $11. People need to get over that pyschological hurdle of "excessive shipping costs" and get in on a deal if the total price is worth it to them. They ship UPS, btw, so it's not like they are gauging.

That's not the point. I understand that the real deal is $11 but that's not what you'd think when you head into checkout. Normal shippings costs for items of that size are between $2-3. UPS, FedEx, etc doesn't charge EA $6 for that so why does EA charge that much to its customer? It's a way for EA to make it look like a deal (it still is with $15 off) but anyone shopping there without coupons would be getting the shaft due to shipping.

Fifa might be worth $5 bucks but not $12. It would have been a nice game to hold me over til something better came along. In the past few years, it's not been a very good soccer game series and EA is widely known to dish out crud each year (Fifa, March Madness, and now Madden). I was interested at first because IGN and gamespot gave it decent reviews but then found others that weren't so good. Personally, I'm waiting for Winning Eleven to hit DS and go on sale.

I agree with bmarquardt. As with anything, you need to just take the total price (no matter its components) into account as a consumer. Don't you do that when you walk into a store and are charged tax? You may argue that tax is different because it's a flat sales tax and that you know exactly what to expect, but what about dining out at a restaurant? You may tip anywhere from 10 to 20 percent (for example) depending on the service. Those are all things you should internalize as a consumer.

Anyway, you have to remember these are shipping and handling fees, and, as with anything in capitalism, you buy what you can/want to at their given prices. They lost a sale with you, but they have a sale for me. In the end, they just care about how many they sell overall, and in all honesty, that's all they should care about.

Well, I think they should be more truthful in their pricing instead of using overinflated shipping costs to get theirs. Yes the overall price is what really matters in the end but it's only a good deal because of the coupon.

It's like going to a store, getting an item and when you go to checkout, you're hit with a 20% tax instead of 5%.

I was under the impression the DS WE game would be a "tactics" type WE, but I don't remember where I read this. That makes more sense to me given the PSP WE is a port of the normal WE's, and the DS could better do a manager-type game with the features it has (touch screen for formations/tactics, the already mentioned map, etc.).

I can't wait to see how it turns out regardless! (And I hope Konami beefs up the PSP WE9 to include a Master League and/or online play...I have waited to buy a portable partly to see how WE turns out on each one)
