View Full Version : Tactics Ogre GBA $9.99 NEW @ EB B&M
tenzor

Not all EBs are going to have this, but if they have it in stock it runs for $9.99 new. I was able to pick one up today and the pre-played one is going for $34.99,so if you see the new one you should get it. It trades in for $10.00, so if you dont like it you can end up getting your credit back and just losing about a buck for the tax.

There's two in San Jose in the mall on Stevens Creek Blvd. Further away there's one in Monterey near Costco, Target, etc. San Jose is only 25-35 minutes away traffic permitting.

This is a steal of a deal. Picked it up for $35 when it came out, and right after that it was impossible to find. Buy it for $10, but if you don't like it I am sure you can get way more than $10 on ebay.

I picked up this P.O.S. last month at Gamestop for $25 used. I'm almost convinced it's a bootlege 'cuz it has some saving problems. ><
Guess I'll return that one and pick a complete one at the local EB.

Is it me, or is this game slow paced compared to Advance Wars, Fire Emblem & Final Fantasy Tactics?
When it's the enemy's turn, there's a second or two delay before each unit decides what it wants to do. That gets tedious when they have 10 units on the map you have to sit through until it's your turn again.
It's like playing one of those old chess games with the hourglass while the computer determines its next move.
It's worth $10, but not the $30 I paid.

Anyone know how to tell the difference between a bootleg copy and the real deal? I have one sealed and I'm not sure which of the two is it.
I bought this from a local store, not ebay, so I always assumed it was real.

If you bought it in a US retail store there's like a 0.00001% chance it's a bootleg.
If you bought it off of eBay, from someone in Hong Kong, there's a 0.000001% chance it's NOT a bootleg.

Just as an FYI, I called my EB just now and the guy says they have no new copies in stock. He went on to say that the game has been discontinued, and the only way my store will get any more in is if people trade them in. I guess this means that if you've found one in your area, you should snatch it fast...they probably won't get any more.

It's a mom and pop kind of store rather than a big chain retail like CC or BB. I have seen those bootleg types on ebay. They're all pretty much $9.99 and nobody is bidding on them, but they don't give too much details.

I went to FSU for a few years. It is a pretty crappy capitol. But it does have two claims to fame.
One of the greatest theaters on earth, The AMC 20 there, has the best seats ever. There is no movie complex on earth that has as comfortable seating as you'll find there.
It also has a capitol building that looks like an erect penis from the interstate.

I didn't realize the AMC theater was so gracious. I do so like it, though.

I was there when it opened. It was literally a black tie event. That's how little there was to do in town. It's got to be about a decade old now. Maybe a couple years less. It completely revitalized the Talahassee Mall. After that oipened, they added the B&N and it took off.
I've sworn that when I'm rich and I can build a personal theater in my mansion, I'm going to get the exact sofa couches they use in that AMC. I ove the way they turn into full sofa's.

Oh, I've been in town since before it opened. God, Governor Squre mall's theater is such garbage.. I'm astonished that the place is still in business.

I don't think mose EB/Software employees check GBA carts so well to see if they are bootlegs or not. I got some bootlegs off ebay before and they were so well made that outside of the screw on the back and very minor marks you could not tell if it was a bootleg or not till you started up the game, there would be a more delayed startup and game saves sucked. I've also seen bootleg (no im not joking here) NES carts, and they are just as hard to tell if they are fake or not. The common EB/Software employee will have no idea if the game is a bootleg or not. So theres quite a decent chance that you could find a bootleg in the used section of the store for GBA games especially.

But remember, before the AMC 20 opened, Governor Square was the "Good" Mall. The Tallahassee Mall was an absolute dump with a couple sections literally abandoned before the theater opened up.

which store had one? I work at the one in Tallahassee Mall.
SolinariDotCom

I still consider the Governor's Square the "good" mall.
It's on the better side of town (Best Buy, Super Wal Mart [well, I guess the rest of them are super now, but technically the best Super Wal Mart in town), Games for Less, Circuit City, Target, Borders, Barnes and Noble, in addition to having two game stores within the mall opposed to just one EB games.
Tallahassee Mall, I've always regarded as garbage. My only interests in that side of town are the AMC and Comp USA :-(.

Actually, it's not that bad of a place, but I can tell you I was happy to leave and feel a little depressed when I am back...unless you are near either campus.
I didn't end up far though---I live in Mobile, Alabama, now, so I sure can't pick on Tallahassee!!! At least we still have KB Toys here (important since my primary hobby is collecting action figures)

That's why I said "technically". In comparison to the other Wal Marts (Thomasville aside) Apalachee is better.
However, Thomasville is what I would consider "the other side of the world" because it's just too damn far away and there are no redeeming qualities. Hell, once you actually get to Thomasville road where everything is, the Wal Mart there is yet another 5 or 7 miles down the road.

Absolutely,
Apalachee is the place for deals in Tallahassee. Heck, Circuit City and Target clearance sales within a mile of one another.

Thanks for the heads up, but unfortunately going to San Jose from here involves going on highway 17 which I try and avoid like the plague. Unfortunately Monterey isn't much better with highway 1, two fucking lanes and no one on that highway knows how to drive!! Man I REALLY hate the California central coast, I can't wait until I graduate to get back to Sacramento.

A real game has a small two number stamp on it. A bootleg doesn't. Also if you hold up a real game to a bootleg you can tell that the color is off (I think it's a bootleg is darker but I forget). Also some, such as Advance Wars 2, have weird obvious things about them. The bootleg AD2 has a startup screen about escaped monkeys from UC Davis.
Also bootleg games can be found at EBgames, Gamestop, etc in the used section. How do I know? Because I've unloaded a few on them.
Edit: The number is stamped on the right side of the cart on the sticker usually near the bottom.

I've bought a booleg game; Duke Nukem Advance. DO NOT buy GBA games off eBay unless you 100% know the company selling them. And, my god, don't buy 'em from Hong Kong. Yea, they're cheeper, but your memory corrupts every five minutes and you have to try several times to get them to boot. (Besides the legal aspects.) Places like EB may get bootlegs in on trade. Many people buy the stuff off eBay, not knowing what they're getting.
Nintendo has an entire anti-piracy site: http://ap.nintendo.com/
The site for spotting GBA games is here: http://ap.nintendo.com/tab_06.html
You can ID them pretty fast. The quickest way is noticing that the grey case is the wrong color, usually darker. Also, the "Gameboy Advance" logo stamped at the top is wrong. Bootlegs usually have "Gameboy Advance" *written* inside an impressed circle, instead of the actual Gameboy Advance logo. (Check out the first one on that page, Advance Wars, for an example.) And they don't snuggly click into the GBA like offical games.
